The service was good but we had to wait a long time to get out the attention of the staff to get our check. Now we were all about the laidback and chill environment but a little jet lag makes an old fashioned go down easy ....so relaxed - all you want to do, is put on PJs and enjoy the chilly evening. The decor is clean, modern, and elegant. The dining area and bar are bright and well appointed. The host was polite but unaccompanied. We had to ask for and suggest alternatives to his seating placement when he said everything was full even if we waited. We suggested the bar. He acquiesced. Our drink orders were taken quickly and delivered expeditiously. That did not follow with our food. We ordered the asparagus appetizer which took 12+ minutes to receive. The asparagus were old and tough. The accompanying sauce was flavorless. We waited for our entrees for another 20+ minutes, far longer than the patrons around us. Needed a break from the bitter cold and crowds beginning to form for NYE, and we stumbled upon this restaurant while walking by. Although they said they were full with reservations (1.5 hr away) we were able to persuade to be seated as along as we departed before 5pm. No problem, except for super slow service. We went about 15 full minutes before anyone came over for service or attention. They have a shallow and just ok menu, but it was enough for us for the moment. We ordered the mushroom soup (cream based, not broth) served in a small portioned amount - FYI. My husband ordered the breaded poached egg, it was a no for me but he seemed to like the density. The Blue Boar Pub is a modern gastropub in London's Westminster area that serves classic British pub food. It is located in the Conrad London St James Hotel and has its main entrance is on 45 Tothill Street. Personally, We had a mixed experience at The Blue Boar Pub in Westminster and didn't come back for the week we were here. No complaints on the service and love the atmosphere and wood paneling and plush chairs, but the food was not worth trying again. For Food, I had the Beer Battered Cornish Cod (£24/$30 USD) w/thick-cut chips and curry sauce, but unfortunately, the breading was rubbery. Chris had the Braised Herdwick Lamb Shoulder (£26 /$33 USD), and he was not a fan of the broth. They are known for their Fish and Chips so many my experience was off, however we were both disappointed with the meal overall. On a brighter note, the Sticky Toffee Pudding (£10/$13 USD) with buttermilk ice cream was delicious! The manager was really nice and comped my fish and chips, but I added it to the gratuity since I ate it anyway. All in all, I loved the vibe and dessert, but the food didn't quite hit the mark. Walked in without reservations and the host was very accommodating and still sat us right away. We ordered the squid for appetizers and omg! Delicious! For main course we got the apple sausage and mash and a dirty burger. Burger taste flamed broiled and the sausage and mash in a tasty gravy. Everything was exceptional. A popular pub in our central London hotel(Conrad St James) was a frequent stop for us. We had stopped in for lunch once and then came down for a few night caps. I had a hefty burger complete with fries. This pub does a great burger. Their beer on tap is also very refreshing. One of our favorites is their "chips" aka thick fries. read more

The cod was flavorful, tender, and flaky and the chips were voluptuous! My friend loved the lamb, although it's not my thing. After a busy morning, we were all tired and hungry. It was around 12:15 when we walked in the door. The restaurant had a good bit of customers, but not even close to being full. We had a party of 4, so the hostess sat us in the back of the restaurant near the toilets. My father joked and asked the hostess if we were going to be forgotten about back here, the hostess assured us that we would be taken care of and our server was on the way to take our orders. Fast-forward 30 minutes, we still had no drinks and no one came over to take our order. At this point, we were all frustrated and hangry. New customers were being seated, received their drinks, and had their orders taken, and we had been there for 30 minutes without drinks, waiting for anyone to come by to take our order. Upset, I got up from our table and told the hostess how long we had been waiting unattended. He looked flustered and told me that they were very busy and someone would be by momentarily. Another 15 minutes passed, still no service, so I waved down a server and asked for someone... anyone to please take our order. At this point, people who were seated after us were already eating, and we still had no drinks. If it were up to me, I totally would've walked right out and went somewhere else, but my parents were too tired and hungry to walk elsewhere. By the time our server came to take our drink orders, we had already been waiting 50 minutes. The server thought he would take our drink orders then come back, but I told him that we had been waiting too long and he needed to take our entire order so we could finally get some food. When our food finally came, I was not at all surprised that our food was not delivered at the same time. Each plate was delivered to the table over a span of 15 minutes. Sadly, the chips and fries were cold, my mother received the wrong meal, we had no utensils, no condiments, and the side of mustard I ordered with my Veg BLT never came out. I had to walk back up to the hostess just to get utensils. My Veg BLT was very dry, but at this point we were so hungry and tired of waiting that we just ate the food as it came and didn't complain. During our meal, our server never visited our table to refill our water or check-in to see if we needed anything. When we were finished, we waited ages to receive our check, I had to walk up to the hostess yet again to ask for our check. It took 15 minutes just to pay so we could finally leave. On the plus side... the toilets here were very clean and smelled fantastic. The dining room was well decorated and the seating was nice and very comfortable. Overall, I'd never, ever choose to eat here again after our experience. There are so many better food options to choose from here in London. There is no reason to dine at a restaurant that is obviously understaffed, overpriced, and does not attend to all of their guests. I don't recommend! read more

BEWARE...FOOD POISONING After dining at Blue Boar, one of my children became violently ill with food poisoning. Besides spending the entire night in the bathroom (literally), the entire next day was spent in bed. Besides this obvious RED FLAG. Although the ambiance is nice, the Blue Boar should be avoided at all costs for a couple other reasons... 1) Terrible Food - the Sunday roast was an absolute joke. The beef was so tough it was like chewing on a leather belt. The only difference would be that the leather belt would be cheaper to buy than this terrible dish! 2) Service was Lacking - it took 1.5 hours from stepping into the restaurant to receiving our food. Additionally, we saw several other tables of patrons simply get up and walk out of the restaurant after sitting for 20 minutes and no welcome from the waiter. We came here for an unplanned lunch while visiting London. They were extremely busy, and despite us not having a reservation, were able to accommodate our family. We had both dinner and breakfast here at the hotel during our brief stay in London and overall found it to be a pretty good restaurant. The restaurant has a low lit intimate feel to it with tables spaced generously and rich interiors with warm colors. The wood and leather adds to the high end atmosphere. We waited sometime for our server even though the restaurant was almost empty, but luckily not as long for our food. When I told the server I had a gluten allergy they were confident in how to communicate that to the kitchen, which is always relieving. They brought out a good gluten free bread while we waited for our entrees. My cod was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. I savored every bite. The husband enjoyed his burger and fries as well. The complimentary dessert sent out by the kitchen was thoughtful and beautiful, but not gf. My husband tried them but wasn't a fan. The breakfast the next morning was an impressive spread of both hot and cold components. Smoothies, fruits, meats and cheeses, and of course eggs, breakfast meats, and hashbrowns. I inquired about gf options and I appreciated the managers precaution to not let me have anything from the buffet, but instead to just tell him what I'd like and have the kitchen freshly prepare it. While in theory it seemed like a nice idea, there was definitely some miscommunication as I kept having to ask for the things I'd already requested. My omelet arrived without any of the ingredients I'd asked for, and a piece of hair I didn't request. It all turned out alright in the end and we left well fed. Our dinner experience was definitely better than the breakfast and I did appreciate the knowledge on gluten making it relatively straight forward for ordering. read more

Came here for lunch today with the family. It was very slow, less than 5 tables seated, yet somehow the service was abysmal. We ordered lunch and drinks and the food arrived after approx 20 minutes and the drinks followed 10 minutes later! No reason as to why, and definitely wasn't worth ordering a second round of £14 cocktails. Food was good, and decent sized servings. All was fine until my 3 year old decided he wasn't going to eat his lunch today. Alas... they refuse takeaway. No boxes, nothing. It's against their "policy." The unspoken policy. My friends and I were so confused by this restaurant-- but in a good way. We had been wandering around London all day and were starving. We checked out the menu outside and decided to give Blue Boar a try. The inside is super cute and modern. The bathrooms are luxurious. I didn't realize it was attached to a hotel, but everything inside was great! The reason we were confused was because the fanciness and upscale feel did not match menu prices at all, so we felt like we struck gold. My friend and I decided to share their "British sampler" (can't remember the exact name) which is made for two people. It came in a picnic basket displayed absolutely beautifully. It came with a scotch egg, pickled veggies, tuna, bread, apples, finger sandwiches, ham, a whole fruit/cheese/cracker plate AND a berry pudding dessert. We were super impressed and everything tasted great. The best part is it was only 25 pounds, or about $30 USD, which is not bad at all for two people and the amount of food we got. Food and service at the Blue Boar are both pretty good. The atmosphere is nice in the dinner room, but much nicer in the bar area. To start, I had the scallops, which were good, but a bit under cooked for taste. My main was the ribeye with house made chips. My steak was perfectly cook and nicely seasoned. Two months later and I am still thinking about the Sunday roast dinner at the Blue Boar Pub. It was that good! As a first time visitor to London one of the things high on my list of things to do was have a Sunday roast dinner. I don't remember how I came across the Blue Boar but I'd like to thank the person/website for the recommendation. We were promptly seated at a cozy table for two. We ordered the beef and the pork so we could try both. Personally, I think the beef is the better of the two dishes. That's not to say the pork was bad, it just isn't as good as the beef. How is it so tender? It was almost like an American prime rib. The potatoes were fantastic; the British definitely know how to cook a delicious potato. And for dessert? The sticky toffee pudding was divine. I'm still kicking myself that we didn't take the time to go back just to have that, it was so good. Overall, a lovely meal in a great location. read more
