We are staying at the St Ermins and needed to grab a bite to eat before our late dinner reservation. Not many restaurant options open in Xmas Day. The bar menu is limited but adequate. This is a super cute restaurant that was even more charming at Christmas time. Dinner on first night was a bit disappointing as they'd run out of our first two choices on the menu, but the food was ultimately good. Service was fine. Breakfast was better srrvice and a nice selection of food. Scrambled eggs were disgusting and soupy, but they did prepare some for us that were actually cooked. The bar was just awful, and I was so disappointed, as it was a super cool looking spot, and I was looking forward to hanging. All of it was attributed to the terrible service and it's honestly a black eye to the rest of the place. read more

This is our go-to place whenever we are in London. Fantastic intimate bar with great cocktails. The food in the restaurant is excellent as well. The shining stars are their staff, in particular, Hamza in the bar, who treated us like good friends. Ruth, in the dining room, has an amazing sense of humor and wit! Sunday night dinner at 7:45pm. Relaxed, friendly service. Toasted mackerel, burger, BBQ short ribs and French bean all perfectly done and quite tasty. To an American palette, the beans slightly undersalted, but easily remedied. Delicious and flavorful otherwise. I enjoyed the glug-glug of the fish-shaped water pitchers, an odd and fun touch. We have stayed at St Ermin's Hotel 3 times in the last year and a half, thus, we have had breakfast here everyday we were here. The food is great and the coffee is good; you will not be disappointed! The primary reason we love Caxton Grill is the employees! Nahid, the manager, was attentive and caring! All the employees showed professionalism, promptness, and were friendly! Ramos, one of our servers, always has a smile and makes us feel welcomed! The Hostesses do an outstanding job with handling the seating as hotel guests line up for breakfast. First night staying at the St Ermin's Hotel and we got in a little late and didn't want to bother finding a place to eat. This was surprisingly good! The restaurant, like the rest of the hotel, is very nicely done and comfortable. We were seated next to a window at a cozy booth which was perfect after a long couple of days of touring for me and business meetings for my husband. I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures so you'll just have to take my word that the food is presented nicely, and everything was very fresh. We had the burrata app, I had the wagyu burger, husband had the special grilled cod, and we got a side of mac & cheese. Everything was delicious, the mac & cheese surprisingly so; the garlic oil and whatever cheese they used made a for a much more interesting and tasty version. I docked one star for price - it was pretty expensive but alas it's a hotel restaurant so you always know it will be on the higher end. Definitely worth it though, it's not like your typical Marriott fare. read more

While at the bar we enjoyed ice cream, lemon curd, chamomile tea, margarita flatbread, cauliflower w/ Korean BBQ, chips, and lots of laugh. I came here for breakfast twice during my stay and for a breakfast spot it was very very good. Large selection of meat, sides, fruit, pastries, juice and even gluten free options. As a Marriott elite member, this was all free to me but I think for £15 the value is certainly there. They will also make you coffee in any style you like. Love the fact that they have their own honey bee farm grown on their terrace and ingredients are locally sourced (even in their own garden). Had dinner here. Several dishes were very very good including a grilled salmon, a wagyu burger, portobello mushroom, and several sides. Later the same week we had afternoon tea. Quite nice, lots of teas to sample and sandwiches and desserts. Significantly better than the "average restaurant in the hotel." Usually those restaurants aren't necessarily destinations but more a solid option if you're staying upstairs. Would definitely come back. Experience was significantly enhanced though that we didn't have to venture very far ;) just a short elevator ride! read more

I came here daily for breakfast and for drinks in the evening. For breakfast, they put out quite a spread. They have eggs, sausage/bacon, bread, pastries, fruit, yogurt and more. It's pretty much the typically Marriott spread, but the food is better quality than I've been used to in the past. They were also very accommodating and allowed me to quickly make a to go bag on a day when I had a very early morning start. I very much appreciated that. They do have an interesting system of seating one table at a time and waiting in between the next seating. Maybe it was just the time I visited. However, each time, it took about five minutes to sit a table at a time. For evening drinks, they have a small bar and an extensive cocktail menu. Prices here are a bit high, but expected based off of the price of the hotel. Service at the bar is ok, not outstanding. read more

Food here is really good. This review is for two experiences one breakfast an one dinner. For breakfast, came in on the morning after an overnight flight while I was waiting to check in. Waitress came over with coffee for me. I went with the vegetarian English which was nice. Had crushed avocado which was very fresh; backed beans tomato hash browns and plenty of brown toast. All items tasty. Even the mushroom. Dinner had nice breadbasket with seeded whole grains thick cut slices alongside some nice butter. Not sure what was in the butter but it was not. plain. Thick cut chips were nice and hot along with the cod which was really thick and flaky. Started with a garden salad which was fresh and delicious with lemon honey dressing. Had the perfect amount of salt on the leaves. I would definitely recommend this place. Pretty crowded on a Tuesday night yet they accommodated a party of one without a reservation. read more

It's the sort of place that everyone wishes they had in their neighborhood - fresh ingredients , interesting dish combinations, convenient location, and decent / well focused pricing. Add to the great formula - the servers are excellent! Really upper class. We had two of our final dinners on our most recent trip to London at the restaurant, and they were both excellent meals. The meats are all very well prepared and the vegetables are interesting and super flavorful. The best dish for me? The parsnip soup. Delicious!! If you're in the neighborhood (Westminster) or staying at the hotel - make this a go-to spot. It's well worth a visit, and very approachable on a number of levels. read more

We stayed at the St. Ermins hotel and decided to get breakfast here one day early in our trip. I am only giving it 3 stars due to the service. My wife wanted the breakfast buffet and I wanted the full English breakfast from the kitchen. The waiter took our order and my wife returned with her breakfast plate from the buffet. There was no silverware on the table and we waited a bit for the waiter to pass through to notify him but was taking too long so my wife went to search out someone for silverware. When she got the silverware the spoon appeared to be dirty, and her eggs were now cold. Later, our waiter returned and asked if I was going to eat anything. I explained that I already ordered from the kitchen with him...and the breakfast I ordered was already on the bill that was brought out earlier on. Needless to say my order was never put in. By the time my breakfast arrived my wife was finished. No complaints about the food though, once I got the breakfast it was very good. read more

If you are staying at the St. Ermine's Hotel in London and you don't feel like going far don't be afraid to check out this restaurant on premises for dinner as it is surprisingly good. We found nice atmosphere and good service accompanied by a good glass of wine to be very relaxing. They change their menu seasonally, and when we were there there was a focus on honey as an ingredient. They have there own bee hives on premises so this is understandably a good ingredient for them to focus on. I had the half free range chicken prepared in a honey glaze. It was very moist and tasty. My husband had the whole Cornish lemon Sole, which was delicious. His only complaint was that they did not remove the bones for him. Eggs, sausage, bacon, fresh cheeses, fruits, cereal, pastries, yogurt, tea and juice and coffee. We ate here for dinner one night and it was disappointing. I had lamb. It was slightly pinkish in color. Just a little undercooked. My daughter had a piece of plastic inside her hamburger. Expected more from an upscale hotel restaurant. Came here for an impromptu lunch date with the fiance. Loved the dining room. It's like a little haven away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria - comfortable and comforting. There were quite a few business lunches going on around (to be expected based on the location). I had a tuna nicoise salad. This was almost 5 star but the tuna didn't taste like it was cooked fresh if I'm honest (seemed like canned tuna). The dressing was good though as was the salad, egg was perfectly cooked for me (gooey yolk). The sourdough bread was superb - served warm with the option of 'chicken butter' (I couldn't partake as I don't eat chicken). Service was good, quick and attentive if not 100% polished. Food was served quickly which was good for a lunchbreak. They have a very good value sounding dinner offer (3 courses and a wine for around £30) so we'll definitely be back to try that. read more

This was NOT what the ratings say. I suggest you go to the M Steakhouse instead. I ordered the 14ounce porterhouse and it couldn't weigh 8 ounces if it tried. The meat came out a pasty white with grill marks. Absolutely no flavor to the meat. Like they haven't even heard of salt and pepper. The side dish of grilled peppers and olives was bland to say the least. The whole meal was just bland. No complaints with service or atmosphere. This is the restaurant in my hotel, and as such I accept a compromise when returning late and not wanting to go out again. More compromise than I expected, though. Cheery staff, comfortable table, but a hodge-podge of food - monkfish tail (I know what it is) had a remarkable amount of bone, sort of like "corn on the cob". I ordered a radicchio salad, served to me twice - the second time by a suited host who brought it with the odd monkfist tail. I asked him about the second salad, and received a puzzling response, that it was okay. I appreciate not being badgered after being served, which in this case meant that the next contact was 15 or so minutes later, a busser clearing my plate. Had I been asked, I would have said the monkfisth was unsatisfactory, but I didn't want to cause a stir by asking for attention. From time-to-time when at a hotel for a few nights, I dine at its restaurant...this is a reminder of why I usually dine elsewhere. read more

Close to an Underground station (St James Park), so very easy to get to. 2 of us had the '6 course tasting menu', and the 3rd an appetizer and a main. Our 6 course taster menu was a wonderful experience, and very memorable. Each plate was a work of art, but also seasoned perfectly, with moist, delicious food. Multiple components on each plate, combined textures and flavors in interesting and 'just yummy' flavors! At the end of the meal I was satisfied, but not overly stuffed, so the portion sizes were well considered. Well done! The appetizer/main course only combination of my parter was beautiful and also delicious. I took pictures of everything. Being served with plates of fantastic looking food covered with conical glass covers holding in smoke was a piece of performance art, and yes, I could taste the smokiness in that dish! Wonderful! Yes, yes and yes. This is a place which I would be happy to take anyone out for - although they'd better be worth it as you can make it quite pricey with your choices. Bright and open, the restaurant sits in the bottom of the St Ermine's Hotel building, and you can wander through to the bar and lobby. The food was both 'interestingly' prepared (several different types of beetroot in one dish - very tasty though), and satisfying. Some dishes were even quite brash - such as tempura crab or chicken butter with brioche. A round of starters could have seen me through the rest of the day (this was a lunchtime), but I'm glad we waited around for our mains. Slightly stuffy, yet inattentive service carried us to our mains. By golly was I happy with my choice of ashed beef with barley and chips. The truffle oil chips with parmesan weren't the best ever, but played a supportive supporting role to the fantastic beef. Pink on the inside, dark on the outside but oh so tender and flavoursome. Heartily recommended. Yes, expensive. Yes, 'celebrity' chef. Yes, not the finest service. But oh boy, a place to go at least once. read more

This has been one of our favorite dinners in London. Hard to believe, when it's in a hotel. But legit service and decor started us off right. Appetizers of cured sea bass and garden salad were spot on. Yes, the garden salad was delish! Steak for two, topped with onions and side of fat cut fries was incredible. The food was very fancy, what used to be described as Avant-garde. It was definitely an experience, not just dinner. The Caxton grill is also open for breakfast for guests of the St. Ermin's hotel. It consists of some hot things like eggs, sausage and bacon and also delicious pastries, fruit, meats, cheeses, juices and more. The servers are very attentive. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 for me was that despite the high price of the tasting menu and the undeniably elegant presentation I didn't really enjoy the taste of several of the dishes. read more

The service was amazing, every waiter/ waitress was so kind and engaging. I had the porridge with honey and bananas and it was delicious. My family had the buffet and it was also delicious- with lots of varieties of breakfast food to choose from. The only issue we had was a plum that went bad, it looked totally fine on the outside so it would've been hard to catch that. They gave us free cappuccinos to go as an apology because we already had a complimentary breakfast. Great service and ambiance though for a sit down meal!! read more

Went here for my birthday in May. The fact that it was my birthday was on the booking, so I was presented with a slice of cake on a decorated plate - so thoughtful and lovely of the staff to do that. There was a slight error with the bill, but the manager swiftly rectified it and was lovely to us throughout our whole dining experience. A hidden gem of a place just around the corner from St. James's Park station! Adam Handling knows his stuff and is definitely deserved of a well-earned Michelin star that will be awarded this year (2016)! The atmosphere is contemporary, clean, down-to-earth and the prices relatively reasonable for the caliber of creativity put into his menu. Definitely go for the tasting menu, as there are several mind-blowing items to experience. These dishes are seriously a work of art! My favorites are the "liquid gold", chicken/fig/lime starter, and salad of salt-baked celeriac--amazing and imaginative. The dessert puddings are beautiful and very tasty, my favorite being the yuzu. The cod fish and chips is an excellent choice, the batter is absolutely perfect. The wagyu burger with pulled pork and crispy onions is excellent, one of the best burgers I've ever had. The food was delicious and refreshing; the service was excellent; and the place is beautifully decorated and spacious. We went here for a late lunch. For appetizers, we ordered Burrata cheese and 18 month cured ham. Both had beautiful presentation and interesting flavor. The combination of cured ham and Cantalope melon really impressed me. For main course, we had Ultimate Grills for two (one meat, one fish). The fish pieces were fresh and cooked to perfection. The meat pieces were tasty too. Some were a bit over-cooked. The Caxton Bar is the St Ermine's hotel bar. The St Ermine's offers a free cocktail with a Yelp "check in". Redemption of this turned into a very bad experience. So incensed was the bartender with the hotel, I felt uncomfortable to return to the bar. One the second night we avoided the bar and sat in another room with service from the floor staff. When we reordered a round at the end of the night, the server "mistakenly" thought we all had ordered another round. When she came with an extra cocktail she took quite umbrage to have to return one. The worse part of the night, was she presented us a check with the unordered cocktail to which we nearly paid. When we reminded her we didn't reorder that one, she presented another check with one less drink. Closer inspection showed that both checks were printed at the same time. Confused? She had hope to rip us off but was prepared we might catch it. AVOID THIS PLACE. THEY ARE SLICK AND LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO RIP OFF.
