We were staying at a hotel nearby and wanted to find a dinner spot without needing a reservation. The Shed came up as an option. When we arrived, it seemed like reservations were expected, and they did have some available, but they kindly seated us anyway. We chose the tasting menu since it featured a variety of farm-fresh dishes. My husband added the wine pairing. We started with a mushroom marmite éclair, which was better than I expected, followed by buttery Queenie scallops, a cheese course, chorizo, and beef bavette. Dessert was chocolate mousse, but I asked to switch to pie, and they were happy to accommodate. The ambiance felt like a cozy English countryside diner. I loved the details about the farm and the little pamphlet about where the food came from. Every dish was so thoughtful. This place is a hidden gem. Had a sick child and called in the morning to politely ask if I could cancel my reservation for five. They had no empathy and charged me $100. It was Friday morning for a Friday night reservation. We ate here for dinner on our first night in London on our Honeymoon. This was my husband's pick, and he was so excited about it. It was his first time in London, and most of our other diners were more of "experiences" (or just very popular) and this felt more like a really cool, local, but still high end spot. So less "pressure" if you know what I mean. It felt like a real find though. I was surprised that it was so busy for a week night - the only tables that weren't full were the patio ones (and it was a chilly night for early fall) - though the patio was super cute so I would eat there on a warmer night if we return. I surprised at how cramped it did feel when full, it was also quite loud, but not in obnoxious way (like music too high) - just like lots of good conversation was happening. Service, was a little odd, we weren't totally sure who our server was. We had two different people continually helping us throughout the night but when it came time to checkout, only one came and she asked for the credit on the review. We think the other person helping us was a manager because he was always close to and talking with a chef in the kitchen (we could see it from our table) and seemed very stressed, he also only came to check on us after seeing we hadn't been checked on in a while. It was a little weird looking back but we were so tired from traveling we didn't notice really and just rolled with it. The food for us was hit or miss. All farm to table and was very good, I just have a tricky pallet because of a stomach issue. We loved some of it and were a little iffy on some. I remember distinctly not loving the dessert but really loving the bread, fish, and drinks we had-my Negroni was especially good. All in all yes we would return and will be adding it to my list of London spots to recommend, just with some notes and yes there is every chance that just hit it on an off night. read more

We had booked The Shed on-line at the last minute. Walked 1k from the hotel and found the restaurant tucked away around a corner...nice welcome; fun, noisy room; great staff; and well, what a menu...we have lived in West Sussex for years...and here is a place serving food from Midhurst and surrounding area And if you are a fan of John Deere, this is the resto for you! You'll see why Excellent food, decent wine...only issue is the seats and some of the "tables"...if you are on one of the sofas / normal chairs, fine...if you are on a little revolving stool or pressed up side by side, eating off a shelf on the wall - not so fine. Big tip - ask for a decent, real large, not small table, and real seats. Then enjoy. We were lucky - and we had a great waitress I had the John Dory - yum, my wife had the duck - rated good...a side of roasted potatoes; she had the mousse (its ok); I had cheeseboard - it was excellent - reasonable portions (3) and served at the proper temperature The Altura and Proimitivo were both good. Coffee a little sour, but ok Very enjoyable experience; at a reasonable price...and will definitely return PS - our neighbours had ordered the tasting menu - a never ending stream...7 courses I think...looked good read more

Very friendly and warm restaurant located near the park. The staff is extremely friendly and happy to explain any items on the menu. The food is very fresh and while portions are small it is filling. I would highly recommend this place for a solo lunch or meeting with friends. read more

My partner and I were visiting from the states, and staying not too far from The Shed. I was specifically looking for something upscale but not stuffy, fancy but not insanely priced, and romantic but not cheesy. The Shed delivered on all accounts!! The venue is beautiful; fresh orchids abound and each table is candle-lit. It's also quirky - with local vintage items adorning the walls, and even the head of a boar greets you as you enter. The menu is delightfully eclectic but still very British - which is something we were specifically after. It also has a very clear farm to table energy, highlighting Nutbourne Farms as a source for many of its offerings. The Nutbourne white wine was so delicious that my "just one glass" turned into four! All of the food was exquisite. DO NOT miss the black truffle pesto - I literally teared up, and my boyfriend had to physically stop me from licking the plate (not really, but I don't know that I've ever felt quite so tempted). The mushroom marmite eclairs were also a standout - a savory moment where often Chou is underused. The pigeon was also a surprise - the smoky and earthy umami in the various mushrooms in that dish made it sing! Service was wonderful. When we first sat down, we were looking around and taking everything in, when the chef suddenly appeared to make sure we were ok. I guess we looked lost, but really we're just so enamored of everything we were taking in. The fact that it's not overpriced makes this a fantastic spot for everything from special nights out with a loved one, or a group of culinarily-appreciative friends. This is by far the best place I ate while visiting London, would ABSOLUTELY recommend, and will definitely be back the next time I'm in town. read more

We stumbled across this restaurant while wandering in London and ate here for lunch. I'm so glad we did! This meal easily had some of our favorite food of our entire trip. It's a farm to fork menu so I imagine their menu is highly seasonal. We mainly ordered appetizers because they looked interesting. That worked out for us, portion wise. Appetizers: Mushroom marmite eclairs - they're really more of a filled choux bun than an eclair. Pedantry aside, they tasted amazing. I'd go back for these. Chargrilled goat's cheese - basically a variation on a baked Brie but without it puff pastry. It was fine but I'd try something else next time. Squid ink bread with trout roe - great smoked fish dish. I'd eat this again in a heartbeat.* (*This was probably their most 'instagramable' dish: their best dishes taste amazing but don't necessarily look amazing. Maybe one of the reasons this restaurant is more affordable?) Chorizo, kale, flatbread - another winner. More spicy flavors than the other dishes (spicy for the uk that is). Very tasty, hard to stop eating it. Mains: Pea Risotto - another winner! Beautiful, tasty risotto dish that fit with the season and that we couldn't stop eating. Overall: This restaurant is a genuine foodie find in London, a city that often charges through the nose for overrated food. The Shed is the real deal. The food and wine were excellent. We had the cod and duck. Service was a bit slow but I think that is subjective because I am American. Its good to slow down! Friendly people and very cute place. I honestly loved this restaurant! The location is a bit out of the way on a quiet street. You enter through a small arbor-shaped terrace. The interior is not very large but it gives an atmosphere that is cozy, intimate and warm at the same time. Perfect for a relaxed romantic evening or an outing with friends. The staff is super friendly and good advice, because here is great food! The concept is a fully integrated chain with a brother who takes care of the farm, one in the kitchen and another in the restaurant. We are entitled to authentic, tasty local cuisine. The dishes are generous, inventive and beautifully presented. We like in this case this tapas spirit which allows us to flicker from one plate to another. I stopped by for a late dinner and was sat immediately (my not so secret way to almost always get in). I started with the Britz Spritz which turned out to be quite basic for my taste but I could see it having a place as a refresher on the menu. I started with the collection (all four tasters) with each one hitting a different part of my palette and satisfying my ongoing desire to try more than just one thing. Having a smaller appetite, this British Tapas menu style was perfect for even a single diner but I could see the fun of bringing a group as well. Next I had the goat cheese and the pork cigars. The honey on the goat cheese wasn't as sweet as I was hoping but it was quite delicious and was a welcome contrast to the equally delicious pork cigars. I'm sure it's no coincidence however, I assumed the term cigar was simply to describe the shape and looks of the entree but to my pleasant surprise, they also had dark, smoky undertones of flavor as well. The horseradish flavor was very mild, so don't let it turn you off from trying! The prices were more than reasonable and the staff were patient and friendly; if I am ever in the area again I'll be sure to stop by to try all the others! read more

The Shed is beyond lovely, tucked away in Notting Hill, with a lot of rustic charm packed into a compact space, and some seriously delicious food. The mushroom puff pastries were so rich and wonderful, perfect to start the meal off with-- and everything else was prepared well. The Shed is a hyperlocal, farm-to-fork menu. Everything seemed thought-through and carefully considered. The partridge tasted SO good, though it was a little hard to handle with fork and butter knife. The staff were also all uniformly excellent. Kind, warm, and unfussy. Would 100% come back again on next London trip! read more

I was going to be in London for four days. Spent about two weeks trying to put together a dinner that worked timing-wise and location-wise for 6-8 people... and food-wise for me. After failing with a bunch of other options we were able to get a reservation at The Shed, at the last minute. This happened to be in the neighborhood close to my hotel and near where my friends live, and they had been there before. The place is literally in a shed, albeit a very cute and lovely looking one, the way they decorated it. There's a casual warmth inside that's hard to describe. We literally went through half the items on the menu between four of us. The Lamb Chips were great. The black pudding, solid and unlike any black pudding I had (normally don't care for black pudding). The Chicken, which someone ordered by accident I think, turned out to be one of the best dishes. But the Beef Cigars were hands down my favorite. Everything was excellent, including the service. I fear this could quickly become my favorite restaurant in London (if not already). read more

If once and for all you would like to convince your non UK friends that British food is good without having to break the piggy bank than this is the place! They have a set tasting menu of 25£ and there is plenty of food in it! Really liked the venue and food (apart from the odd ravioli dish which was slightly bitter). Favourites were the scallops, mallard and honeycomb dessert...YUM!!! It's tapas style food, so make sure you order 2-3 dishes each. I've knocked off a couple of stars as it was pretty hard to get the attention of the staff at times and they were actually quite forgetful as they promised us menus and drinks but forgot about it. In addition , the seating wasn't great as half of us were sat on a very narrow bench with barrels (as tables) forcing us to sit in an awkward position. And the other half were sitting on stools that were too high for the barrel table. Other than that...super cute venue perfect for a date or small catch ups with friends. read more

I was shocked to learned that I haven't written a review for The Shed yet. It's one of my favourite restaurants in London, which is really saying something. It has a very specific approach to their food and there are no other restaurants like it. It's essentially a farm to table tapas bar and it's brilliant. The food is creative and flavourful and if I could offer one criticism, a bit rich. I would recommend getting at least one dish/salad that is very acidic to help cut all of the richness. However, enough of the preamble. If you go, you MUST try the honeycomb chocolate shards in mascarpone. It's is spectacular, there is no other word for it. read more

I was coming from Kensington Palace and wanted a nearby place for dinner and found this gem on Yelp. Came on a Monday night a few minutes after it opened and there were a few guests and I was seated right away. Like most people have said, it's a farm to table restaurant founded by three brothers. It is tapas style and plates range from £6 to £15. I tried the lamb chips and goat cheese. I cannot recommend both highly enough - the flavors were perfect. I wish I was with a group so I could try more of the menu. The decor is cozy and rustic and service was great. Definitely recommend this place for dinner in London. read more

My new wife and I had a laid back night in London for honeymoon day 1. I knew we'd be recovering from jet lag so I didn't make a reservation anywhere...We felt up to is we decided to go somewhere in the neighborhood. After checking out The Shed online I knew it was the perfect place. The pictures on their Yelp profile do it justice but in case you didn't check them out yet...it's on the smaller side, adorable, and perfect for a casual evening out or a date night. Since we didn't book a table beforehand, we got placed at a small communal spot in the dining area which was perfect for us. The bar had an exceptional drink list and clearly put a lot of thought and effort into it. Like most of London, not much of a whiskey selection at all but I don't think it's a very popular liquor. The food is where The Shed really stands. If you ever had any notion that British food was bland or tpp heavy this place will turn that notion straight on it's head. We split 5 plates (tapas style) which was more than enough. Here's a quick breakdown of the food +Bread - Yes, you pay for it but it's amazing and fresh. +Caramelized onion hummus - They blend the onions in and it gives it a delicious sweet finish. Plenty of veggies with it, too. +Chorizo, labneh - Holy cow. This was fantastic. Think Mexican nachos but less spicy and more modern. +Venison cigars - Probably my favorite thing we ordered. It was mind-blowing how savory and decadent these were. Small but worth it for the fantastic flavor alone. + Cuttlefish - This ins't your typical cuttlefish. The sweet chili sauce it was cooked it was addicting. Not to mention, everything was cooked to perfection. Overall this was one of my favorite meals I had while in London. Highly worth the trip if you're looking to explore Notting Hill but even more worth it when it's just a couple blocks away. read more
