Rainy morning in London and I was on a mission for shepherd's pie, which, I've learned, is surprisingly uncommon at pubs these days. This place doesn't technically have it, but their braised beef & ale shortcrust pie comes very close, and it's one of their specialties. Creamed potato, greens, rich gravy... comfort food done right. £19.50 and honestly worth it, especially on a cold, wet day. Great pub (named after Queen Victoria) not far from our hotel with a nice selection of beers and wine. Nothing overly pricey but decent. Food was pub grub but tasty, good serving size (the fish was very big) and came out quickly after ordering. We split the dessert (Marmalade Bread & Butter Pudding w/ custard) which was good. Spent three nights in London on a trip from the States, and came to The Victoria based on a recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed. It's a wonderful old pub in a lively neighborhood just a block from Hyde Park and two blocks from Paddington Station. My girlfriend, ten-year-old son and I had dinner here on our last night of the trip, and what a way to end it! We made reservations for 6:30 in the upstairs section the day before. They don't accept reservations downstairs and it was packed the whole time we were there on a Thursday night, so you'll need a bit of luck finding a spot depending on when you come. They had a great list of British and other beers. And the food was incredible. My girlfriend had the lamb special, I had a beef pastry, and my son had the hamburger. Not a crumb was leftover when we were finished. There were two women working the two rooms upstairs, and both were incredibly friendly and helpful. Overall this is a fantastic spot in the city for great beer, great food, and great people. read more

I really enjoyed all the standard Sunday Supper items but the Pocchetta was a wonderful surprise. What a great pub. We just stumbled across it and we feel we really lucked in. There is a lot of history and the pub dates back to around 1850. Atmosphere was cool. I had the crumbled sausage, served with grainy mustard, and it was absolutely delicious--savory, well-seasoned, and full of rich flavor. Excellent combination! You must try the pork belly. It was crisp, packed full of flavor, seasoned perfectly, and served with a side of shaved apples which was the perfect paring. Lastly, the cottage pie. While it wasn't the best I've had in London, it was still hearty, packed with flavor, and a satisfying portion. Great traditional pub and restaurant. We visited this place on Father's Day for a Sunday roast based on reviews from yelp. We made a reservation via phone which was very easy and they didn't require a deposit like they request in their website. I got the porchetta roast, wife got the chicken and my son got the siroloin beef roast. The restaurant is upstairs with its own bar in a very cute quint setting. We sat in the library room that is very tradì and elegant. The food was hearty and very traditional although I wouldn't recommend the porchetta roast since it has a lot of fat and not much meat. The chicken looked great and the beef was also nice. All come with the full trimmings including roasted potatoes and veggies and Yorkshire pudding. Service was great! read more

Thank you yelp for helping me find this wonderful recommendation. I had a single night and took the Heathrow express to paddington and then a 10 minutes walk. Food was delicious and got a proper pump beer (Fuller ESB) or two. I nailed it on the ordering: started with the Cumberland sausage starter (delicious, warm sausage in a glaze), the lamb special which was a two bone lamb chop with the most delicious potato casserole and sauce (ate every bite) and finished with the sticky toffee. Really like this place for their cask ales, which are kept well. However, I've been here on many busy nights (especially Fridays) and noticed they could use more staff during busy hours. Many times, additional staff would show up just after really busy times. The landlord/manager often helps out, but this place is too popular and busy to not have more staff working. read more

Located not too far from Paddington in Bayswater stations it's pretty easy to as well with wonderful scenery while you eat The restaurant has dining areas outside, downstairs, and upstairs into different rooms filled with historic charm. The staff is very friendly and made sure that everything was to our liking. Food was delicious. Their pies are great. Also had a salad and was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I don't know what they did to the chicken, but it was some of the best I've ever had. Cocktails are fantastic as well. One of the best old-fashioned I've ever tasted. If you want a real bloody Mary made properly, go here I think the restaurant is dog friendly as some lovable furry creatures stopped by to receive some pets while I was eating. We ordered off the specials. Vietnamese wings - the wings are smaller than the US - probably less hormones. a bit spicy but very flavorful. Chicken burger - tender, juicy and flavorful- my hubby gives big thumbs up. Haddock - perfectly fried and tasty. Not too hot about the minted peas (tastes like Chinese medicine - for real). Our friend who has been to London many times took us to The Victoria. We had the best evening hanging out. They had a great selection of beers and ciders. Since we had already had dinner, I did order a side of chips and they were the best of our London trip so far! They had Trivia Night on Tuesday and we had the best time playing with the locals and tourists, though the questions were quite challenging if they were UK based. The service and atmosphere was nice, welcoming and friendly. Everyone was in good moods hanging out, as it should be in a pub. Serving figures from Winston Churchill to Charles Dickens over the 150 years that this place has been in business, it is pretty unlikely that even the most detailed Yelp reviewers would be able to point out something that has not already been said before. Real Ales, Roasts and Fish and Chips are things that this authentic pub is known for and it unquestionably does them very, very well. The upstairs is quite a gem and does require reservations, sitting in the theater or library room is a journey through the history of Paddington. The pub has many tourists due to the proximity to Heathrow Express, but also locals coming in for a Sunday roast. The girl working here was extremely kind and attentive. Haddock was lightly breaded and perfectly fried, with their fries being extremely delicate and flavorful. Another surprising side for an American are the English peas, which were simply spectacular. Having visited a number of pubs in London, this one is undoubtedly unique and has a character, thus an absolute must to visit. read more

Local pub in a residential neighborhood near Hyde park. Old English charm decor with a very busy bar. Seating is first come. After sitting for 20 minutes and no waiter coming over a local told us that we need to order at the bar. It was so busy it took another 20 minutes to get someone to take my order. First red flag - I booed several months in advance, received another confirmation the night before, and it seemed like they still didn't have my booking when I checked in. The service is slower than we're used to, so after eating, I took my two youngest out of the restaurant when we had finished eating to avoid disrupting the other patrons. After standing in the rain a while, expecting my husband and daughter to follow shortly after, one of the waitresses approached me to tell me that they haven't checked me out yet, insinuating she had caught me in a dine-and-dash attempt. This is a great old pub but with modern and bistro level food. Must give credit where it's due - a cozy and burbling atmosphere matched with some very tasty and lighter than usual pub fare. Such a contrast to some of the dross nearby. Service is attentive and friendly - while the place fills up you can just relax in your corner and enjoy the food and adult beverages. Great spot when visiting the Paddington area, this authentic pub be is a short walk from the station, but far enough away from the touristy spots outside of the station. While on vacation we wanted to have a proper authentic roast so we found this place. We made a reservations because we figured it could get busy on Sundays. It's a good thing we did because the place was packed. We arrived on time and they sat us down right away upstairs in the library. The place looks really nice inside with a good vibe. We ordered a round of drinks and the pork belly appetizer. The drinks tasted great and the pork belly was really good. Our entrees were the chicken roast, the lamb roast, and the pork roast. Unfortunately, it took longer for our dishes to come out. Once the dishes came out, they looked great and there was plenty on the plate to eat. All of the dishes tasted really good flavor wise and were very tender. We couldn't finish all entrees which sucked because we didn't have a microwave in our hotel so there was no way to heat up leftovers. We then ordered dessert, the special which I forgot what that was (sorry) and the sticky toffee pudding. Both dishes tasted outstanding, flavorful, and light. The ambience in the place is great. We had reserved a table for dinner as our first dinner in London. It was also convenient because it was only a couple of blocks away from where we were staying in Paddington. As we were approaching it, we figure that our reserved table was going to be a 6 person table in the corner of the pub with bar stools. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that there are, in fact, dining tables on the upper floor amongst two highly-themed rooms: one "the theatre"; the other, "the library". We were in The Theatre. It was such a fabulous dinner. At first, they had us in the back corner table which was already fine. But since they had a reservation cancelation, they moved us to the center table right in front of the balcony window. Not only did we have a nice view of Paddington but we also had the grandest table of the establishment. My sister got the pasta, I got the lamb, my cousin got the fish and chips. Everything we had was delicious - food and drink. Admittedly, we didn't get to spend much time in the pub area which is all on the ground floor but it looked like a fun, civilized, albeit crowded time! I highly recommend this place for tourists and locals! I used to live in London and for my family, it was their first time in London. This pub caught my eye when I was researching before our trip and we were not disappointed! Carina was our delightful server. We started with the Mortimer's hard cider on tap, a Fever-tree ginger beer and the board of British cheeses for two. The flavors on the board were excellent, and combining the quince jelly with some of the Blue Monday was an unexpected pleasure.
