Dessert, Loved it!
Ranjana P.

Finest dining - even on a broken back It was my wife's birthday and I was due for an operation for a herniated disk in four days. The pain was excruciating but Five fields made me feel welcome and comfortable. Five fields is an upmarket establishment where the clientèle are in suits and beautiful dresses. I was the only one to turn up wearing jeans and shirt which is quite normal for me. The host and waiters were polite throughout and continued to treat us warmly from the start to the end of the meal. When I explained that I was to have a back operation they did all they could to make me comfortable. That cushion really did help. Thank you! The meal was highly priced but was worth every penny and more. We were inundated by plates of amuse-bouches before the main meal started and each tasted extraordinary. I went here in July and write the review in October and don't clearly recollect each meal but the three courses were superb. I went away feeling full and cheerful forgetting all about my upcoming operation.

More and more people these days seem worried by a nice piece of linen draped over a table and are intimidated by friendly service if the staff are smartly dressed. If you are one of these people then you should avoid The Five Fields. If, however, you are capable of dealing with a table covered in a cloth, don't mind staff who let you know what dish they've just put in front of you and relish working with an enthusiastic Frenchman to discover new and exciting wines from around the world (think Japan for example) then you should reserve a table here. Those who do will be rewarded with one of the finest meals available in London at the moment. Cooking is precise, combinations imaginative and flavours in turn bold and subtle. Special mention must go to one of London's most talented pastry chefs who not only turns out sublime desserts from unusual (for dessert) ingredients but is also responsible for what is some of the finest bread in London. In addition to the superb wine list, the restaurant boasts a fabulous bar. Those with a love of cocktails will not be disappointed. Service is friendly, professional and unobtrusive. Enjoy.

Dining at a Michelin starred restaurant always comes with a more critical evaluation. At first glance, the restaurant had all the makings of a fine dining establishment meant to spoil you from start to finish. Service was impeccable and the staff was very knowledgeable about their offerings. We went with the tasting menu without the wine pairing. Most dishes were excellent with a modern, elevated take on British cuisine. However, we could not get over how different and somewhat disappointing dessert tasted. The first of two was prepared with bitter orange and that taste lingered for far too long on the palate. The second combined flavors of lemon with sage, which was also a bit disappointing, reminiscent of almost soap.

Culinary alchemy. This newbie presents a new take on traditional local British ingredients (hence the name, Five Fields, denoting that part of Belgravia which yielded produce for much of London). It is really quite something to witness how artisans at Five Fields are able to bring together downright contradictory textures and flavours of seemingly incompatible ingredients and find new gastronomic harmony. A dessert of artichoke, chestnuts, and white chocolate? Lobster with pear, lotus, Brussels sprouts and mulled wine? Peas, coconut and mint? Five Fields -- a non traditional take on the traditional -- is ripe with culinary paradox that allows an inventiveness and imagination that will no doubt surprise, fascinate, and delight.

I would also say this was the best dining experience I've ever had.

This was my first Michelin Star experience. I made a reservation for a Friday evening to catch up…read morewith friends while in London. The hostess provided coat check and we were seated. Our first waitress wasn't the warmest but the waiter toward the end of the night turned out to be American and we bonded over that lol. We were provided a complimentary appetizer which was not to any of our tastes. We were a bit too late to do the early dinner 3 course dining so we did a La carte. They seemingly just changed from the summer to fall early dining menu and that didn't quite pique my interest anyway. I had a fish dish but I unfortunately don't remember the name. It was good and appropriately filling. One friend had the open face oxtail lasagna which I tried and was delicious. We skipped dessert but it was one of my friend's birthdays and they gave her a card signed by the staff. We lingered a bit with our cocktails before deciding on the next spot. My friends got the margarita which they enjoys and I had a French 75 which was just ok. Overall I wasn't blown away. I've been to other Michelin rated (bin gourmand etc) which I feel had better food and service for the price point.

This place was extremely disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. We came on a weekday evening…read moreand the restaurant was empty. We did the tasting of 6 dishes and everything was just too salty and the flavors did not blend on the dish. Almond soup: one of the better dishes and fairly refreshing Veal tartare- presentation was poorly executed and the peach had some dents on the side. Lobster ravioli- good on its own but way to salty with the lobster bisque which had a slightly burnt taste Fish: fish itself was fine but the babaganoush pairing was odd and the red sauce on top and zucchini were way over salted. Lamb- a little gamey and red pepper hummus that came with it was very salty and didn't pair well with the dish. Dessert- milk multiple ways was creative and basically ice cream with a wafer on top made of milk. Service was fine as the place was fairly empty. But maybe there's a reason why it was empty.
