A fabulous new offering in Pimlico from Katie Exton (former sommelier at Chez Bruce) and Chef Peter Hall.
Buzzing atmosphere, passionate owners on site, incredibly helpful and friendly staff and a sommelier who makes his own olive oil whuich is served on site all help to make this wonderful little restaurant the most exciting new opening this year.
Then there's the food and the wine.
Duck leg, duck egg, chickpea, asparagus and lovage was a rich yet sensibly-sized start to the evening; Pea mousse, baked salmon, radish & preserved lemon was, for me, the star of the show. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the mousse fresh and lively and the radish and lemon added a well-received zing. The presentation was the prettiest I've seen in a dish for a while!
My colleague dined on 30-day aged beef, on heart, onion & beef fat hollandaise. Again, beautifully presented and, judging by the speed at which he demolished it, delicious!
My lamb rump, with peas, Le Caussenard & Boulangère potatoes was delicate and tender and certainly did not disappoint.
The wine list was, as you would expect, very well thought out and the Kumeu River Chardonnay from New Zealand was a great match with the Pea Mousse.
