    Octopus
    Albert K.

Superior service. I missed breakfast, which ended at 12pm and did not allow for walk-ins until 12pm, so this review is based on LUNCH at 12pm onwards. There is a set lunch that seemed reasonable at 58 pounds. I opted for a la carte. Appetizers: - egg is extremely creamy and good; could have been hotter - tart was perfectly crispy and the seafood inside was good Main Meal: - got the octopus as a main meal, but realized it was massive and more suitable for an appetizer. I think having it as a main meal felt like a lot of octopus in general Skipped dessert, as the waiter said the Coconut is NOT the best. Wine selection here is excellent. Over 7000+ wines to pick from, which is mindblowing. Many people come here for just the wine. Overall, I thought the main octopus was a bit too much octopus without anything in addition to it except the sauce. Appetizers were good, service was superior, and the wine selection is "the" most superior. Would be open to come back, but not for lunch.

Spectacular dining experience! It is definitely an adventure to get here for your first time as the entrance/exit is "hidden," and evokes a hide-and-seek feeling and discovering an entrance into a tree trunk, in which the restaurant is located inside trunk. Beautiful staircase leads to upstairs area with greenery views of park across the street. The food is decadent and definitely of high quality with artistic innovations and blends and mixes of flavors. The lunch course menu was perfect to taste mackerel, duck and their fantastic dessert, woooow! A bit on the higher end for pricing as would be expected, and highly recommended as very worth it o

This place was my favorite meal my entire trip through 4 European countries! And kind you I ate at multiple Michelins/top 50 restaurants. First of all, the restaurant is gorgeous. We sat on the second floor and got to walk up that gorgeous spiral staircase. We sat right next to the floor to ceiling windows with a few of the park across the street. For the lunch menu, they start you off with a bread basket, charcuterie style meat beautiful plated on bones, and a couple other treats. I chose the trout tartare as my starter, pork for entree, and custard tart for dessert. My goodness everything was a hit, seriously. There wasn't anything I didn't enjoy. The custard tart reminded me of nata and I thought it was so smart to pair it with the cider! You usually sprinkle a little cinnamon on nata so I feel like the cider played to that concept. Sooo delish! Service was great and food was paced well! The lunch menu is a great deal for those looking for a solid meal without breaking the bank too much.

This was it. The final food I would be purchasing in London during my trip. One Michelin Star, customizable tasting menu, great buzz, sounded like a winner. So we get here super early, actually, and took about 60 seconds to find the front door, because it was hidden, but they have a bar downstairs, called Below Hide, which had some nice mocktails, so we killed some time there. At the time of our reservation, we were lead up two flights of their absolutely gorgeous stairs to our section, Above at Hide. We got seated and started carefully making our decisions. Because this was another wonderful London restaurant where, for the majority of the courses, we got a choice of which dish we wanted. Love the options. There were five- and seven- course options. We chose the five. The seven seemed to be a cheese plate and another dessert, which we would have loved to have, but I don't know, guess we weren't feeling it that night. The whole experience started with Gem, Bread & broth, and Flesh & bone. Three little bites. Gem was a leaf of lettuce, with the purpose of being dipped in some grain or nuts or something, I can't remember, and to be used as a chip to that dip. It was fun. The bread was really good. Five very distinct varieties of bread in a basket, with a fine dollop of butter on a plate. Always love bread. And the Flesh & bone was the most striking presentation. Fancy pork/beef, charcuterie style, wrapped around the ends of feathers, and what looked like a bone. Quick bite, one and done. Delicious, fun. A great start. Another small dish was the Turnip with pine nuts, honey & eucalyptus. Finely cut up strips of turnip soaking in a honey eucalyptus broth. Very clean tasting, like a palate cleanser. The last little small bite that we both had the same thing, before the dishes started differing was the Nest egg. This was a slowly, barely cooked egg mixed with super delicious mushrooms, served in a brown egg that had it's top cut off. Needless to say, very fun, very delicious. I wasn't to break the egg to lick the inside of the shell, because I wanted more. Then, our tasting menu truly began. And unfortunately, their menu has already changed, so I have no idea what I ate. I say unfortunate, but I actually love that their menu is super seasonal, and probably changes frequently. But I do know that I had an excellent monkfish in a dashi broth, a nice lobster in a cream sauce, a perfectly cooked dusk with some black currents, and another sweetbread. There were also a couple of nice desserts, a fresh fruit one with some homemade ice cream, and there was a very pretty pasty, made to look like a gemstone. Great fun. Our last, shared small bites, were the Chestnut & malt pillows and the Acorns. Nut-filled, chewy nougat. And a crispy pillow full of dessert stuff I don't remember what is was, but it was fun, it was light, and it was a good way to wind down from the meal. We paid the bill, got our cake-home baggy full of delicious cookies, and left. Overall, this was a fun journey. I don't know how long this place has had the One Star, but they definitely seem like they're pushing for that second Star. Who knows. But yes, five stars. Come here.

Very cool restaurant with beautiful interiors and the food to go along with it. We went for brunch and ordered a couple of items below in the photos. And everything was excellent. We had the truffle eggs and toast which was good and also had the Croque Monsieur and added truffles. If I got the Croque Monsieur next time I don't think I would add the truffles though. It would be excellent without. I also had 2 cappuccino's one with the normal coffee and the other with a specialty coffee from Colombia and both were fantastic. The one from Colombia was a little stronger. Overall I would go back in a heartbeat to try more items. And try one of the other floors.

Another fantastic meal here. This visit, the courses were timed perfectly without any long gaps in service. The wine pairings were excellent and nicely complemented the delicious food. I highly recommend Hide!

As reassuringly expensive ( think £300/head for five course tasting menu+ matched flight of wines) as you would want from a fashionable restaurant in Mayfair. The food varies from excellent to really very good. Service is friendly but precise- in particular I would commend the sommelier. She took care to answer all of our questions ( quite apart from doing a very good job). Design is also a big feature, from the architect Alex Haw's hallmark sweeping staircase, to the artful partial views into the kitchens. One to go to with someone you really like, particularly if someone else is paying.

Went to Above at Hide for their lunch, and absolutely loved the experience. Walking in, you can understand right away why this place got michelin star. Greeted by the gorgeous entrance is awe-striking oak staircase that I only might have seen in some pretty magazine. The top floor is light-wooded with delicate and elaborate decorations. You can tell even from the table, cutlery holders and plates that every single element has been so thoughtfully placed in such beautiful way such that we can enjoy every moment there. Every staff were extremely kind to me - as soon as I was seated, a staff came to let me know if I need to charge my phone, there's a portable charger placed in the drawer of the table, and showed me the options for my menu. Another staff came with a drink cart to offer me drinks, and soon someone else came bringing out a little stool to place my bag. I got their 5 course set lunch since I wasn't too hungry. Throughout my meal, I was so happy, every bite made me smile. With a serene view outside facing the Green park, immaculately created dishes with perfectly balanced flavours, not only my mouth but my eyes were also in awe and happiness. Would recommend to anyone coming to London and would definitely come back when I'm back in London!

Well. The place is beautiful. The food was spectacular. The charcuterie of meats was served on a slab of slate with thin cuts of cured lamb, duck, beef and pork. The mackerel tartare with a lovely gratinee that melted into a lovely sauce came on a smoking icy display of seaweed. Well done on the drama. The others that had the pasta and the scallop appetizers were wowed. Our mains: The John Dory was was wrapped in a thin zucchini flower. So delicate and beautiful with the pale orange and green veins enveloping a perfectly cooked piece of fish. The sauces complimented nicely too. The duck was delicious and the lamb amazing. Reports at the table gave the octopus two thumbs up. Everything was prepared to perfection. The desserts--omg! The banana milkshake with the crisp ice cream bites! The best best best was the warm acorn cake with a warm salted caramel sauce doused in a liqueur of your choice--we went with a delicious smoky mezcal. Very well done!! Now comes the "but." The service. It felt like a soft opening. No one but the female sommelier could get their act together. We sat 45 min before a waiter approached to take an appetizer order. Uh . . . How about cocktails???? We gently asked for a cocktail menu and wine list. They brought an I pad --one I pad for a table of 5. Well that took a while. We ordered some apps, enjoyed the delicious bread basket and olives and settled in. There was a big gap before dinner came, but we were ok. It's just that we had two servers serving us, so we did not know whom we asked for what. The som was professional, so helpful and lovely. She served red and white, apologized for the wrong glasses (really? Michelin star reviewer, did you not order wine? I felt her pain) and tracked down a cocktail that was ordered 30 minutes before (and brought two). The waiters dress like busboys and the busser/water refiller was in a suit (and super wonderful). A bit confusing at the start. So--go for the food and as my son said to me, "chill" and enjoy. But this NYer says someone called in sick. Also--no one came to the table to ask if things were good/cooked properly etc.

Deconstructed vegetable lasagna- amazingly prepared dish!

We had an amazing dinner at the Hide restaurant today. From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the elegant uniqueness of the dining room. We were given a table in the upper room, so we got to use the beautiful wooden staircase. We started with a flat bread appetizer (amazing!), then I opted for deconstructed vegetable lasagna (to die for!) and my husband ordered their lamb dish (he loved it!). Our side dishes were broccoli with vinaigrette and baby potatoes- both side dishes were full of unique flavors and were very tasty. Our dessert was the blueberry cobbler with amazing homemade ice cream. The dessert was just as divine and the cherry flavored black tea was absolutely amazing. We were literally blown away by how amazing the Hide restaurant was.

We made a reservation for breakfast as we were headed back to the states later in the afternoon. Exceptional from start to finish. Such a spectacularly beautiful space, a sunny seat by the window perfect for people watching. The staircase is a piece of art. Their gourmet coffee selections were the perfect beginning. The honey mango was the best I've had in my life and melted in my mouth. The seasonal fruit was also delicious with a lemon verbena pour over. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the French toast with blueberry compote and a side of black pudding and I loved my Eggs Florentine with a lovely bright hollandaise and perfect super yellow runny yolk. I look forward to trying lunch and/or dinner when we are back in June.

    Rhubarb and custard tartlet

I really wanted to like this place. The servers and sommeliers were superb. The appetizers and nest egg were creative and delicious but I felt the main entrees felt too busy, with clashing tastes. They started off with bread ( I loved the black pudding) , lettuce and beet juice that all tasted great. The turnip served in the broth was excellent despite served cold. However, the main dishes were quite the opposite to the appetizers and desserts in that they were unbalanced. the Chilean sea bass with the pear did not pair well in fact did not go well together at all and the scallops was just ok. My venison was tough and the flatbread was soggy and the wagyu was just ok. We did the 5 course menu but we were so full we skipped the optional cheese menu. As for desserts the tarte tartin is very sweet but goes pairs well with the ice cream which balances it out. The rhubarb tartlet was ok but I found the pastry portion too delicate. The tarte tartin won for me. Tbh I wish the nest egg could be it's own a la carte bc I find it unique and it sucked we had to do the tasting in order to get the nest egg. The tasting menu and the regular a la carte menu are quite different.

Had an absolutely fabulous meal at Hide, my best during this trip to London. To begin with, Hide has a lovely bar in the basement floor. Really nice ambiance and great selection of top shelf liquor. Lively, but not overly crowded. We had dinner in the room on the top floor. Tables well spaced and a nice view of Piccadilly. Appetizers were all excellent but mine, the soft shell crab with a Thai green chile sauce was spectacular. The crab was crispy but not dry and the sauce had just the right amount of heat. The mains were also excellent. The halibut perfectly cooked with a nice sauce. I hit the jackpot with the loin rib of venison that was amazing. Cooked to the perfect temperature, with a killer juniper berry sauce. We just had one dessert, the quince tart, with an amazing crust and tasty small scoop of ice cream, which was the perfect accompaniment. Service was top notch and the wine list one of the best in London. Great range of selections, many of which are well aged. Sommelier was very, very knowledgeable and happy to assist. Just a great dining experience that I highly recommend.

I got a £5 glass of vinho verde and loved it. The set lunch menu changes every day so it's always a little bit of a gamble. I ended up with one that I liked quite a bit. First course was a salt hake salad, which I thought was lovely even though I would say the greens were a bit overdressed. Second course was a hanger steak with beets and horseradish. Absolutely zero complaints on this dish. Steak was cooked to perfection and the horseradish on the side was the perfect complement. Third course was a lemon and almond cake with yoghurt sorbet. Sorbet could have been a bit creamier but the cake was to die for. Portions were perfect. Service was a tad slow. I sat with an empty wine glass for most of my second course. However, service was very nice and pleasant without being pretentious. The vibe on the inside was much more rustic than I was expecting in the most charming way possible. It didn't have the hyper modernism of most NY wine bars. It felt more like a very upscale pub than a cold, sterile wine bar. All in all, added to my very slim "revisit worthy" list.

It's a little unassuming family run restaurant but with serious intent from the kitchen. I was offered a table in the main dining room or the garden when I walked in - as we are in the middle of 'Wimbledon week showers', I chose to dine indoors. The menu was written in impressively authentic sounding terms but closer inspection revealed some fusion going on - lemongrass, tumeric and enoki mushrooms being amongst the ingredients on show. I'm up for a bit of fusion as long as it doesn't end in con-fusion! Having confirmed that I was hungry, the helpful waiter suggested getting 3 dishes. I couldn't help myself and went for the fusion sounding dishes. Panceta con cidra was pork belly, rolled and marinated with garlic, black pepper and dill, braised in Asturian cider. I zoom in pork belly whenever I see it and this version has been slowly cooked to melting tenderness with the dill coming through strongly - it didn't need the wedge of lemon which came with it and I enjoyed it as it arrived. Pollo a la plancha del Parador were a pair of chicken thighs marinated in lemon grass, turmeric, garlic & coriander and cooked on the plancha (grill). I prefer dark meat as it remains moist and the oriental kick wasn't too overwhelming. When the waiter said the Higadillos Salteados (chicken livers with Iberico Jamon, enoki mushrooms, shallots, black pepper and butter) would be served pink inside, I smiled - nice to see a restaurant willing to serve food as it should be cooked and not pander to squeamish guests. These were a delight and to get some Iberico ham from acorn-fed pigs was a bonus. This is tapas of the highest order, given a little twist. A little Yelp gem which deserves its high star rating.
