The specialty butter was good. I also had the soup of the day, which was a type of asparagus cream soup. It was very good. For my entree, I had a risotto of sorts. It was made with barley with jerusalem artichokes and sun chokes. It was good. For dessert, we ordered the sticky toffee pudding and the souffle. Both were good. The food is good but on the pricey side...I would expect excellence for the price. I had the beef wellington, it was a bit dry and falling apart on the outside. Dining at Savoy Grill by Gordon Ramsay was overall a very enjoyable experience. The service, atmosphere, and nearly every dish we ordered were excellent. Unfortunately, the Beef Wellington -- the restaurant's signature dish -- did not live up to expectations. It arrived dry, overcooked, and noticeably burned in parts. Lived up to the hype! We went for our 25th anniversary dinner after Les Mis matinee and it did not disappoint. The service was outstanding and we felt extremely well taken care of throughout the meal by the entire team. After starting with delicious cocktails, I had the Beef Wellington, which was superb, and my husband had the Cornish Hen, which melted in your mouth. We also ordered a side of potato puree, which was perfectly prepared. The meal paired well with the bottle of Italian Pinot Noir recommended by our wine steward. We had the dessert of the day which was delicious and was combined with complimentary truffles and tarts for our anniversary. Booked the reservation on OpenTable and they listed the latest reservation at 9:30pm BST, and I took it. After coming and being told to remove my hat (which caught me off guard) I see many other guests coming in after 10pm BST. Asked the front hostess if they recently changed their hours? She said they are open until midnight and take reservations until 11pm BST. Weird, cause my brain was on Cali time and I really wanted a later reservation and OpenTable must have had a glitch at the time of booking. Enough complaining and let's talk about the awesome food! First comes out the hot out of the oven sourdough bread & butter mixed with Vegemite, and I really dislike the Vegemite spread by itself and this was actually quite amazing! Ordered the Gazpacho which they made it with tomatoes and watermelon whereas most restaurants make it traditionally with just tomatoes, garlic, bell peppers, and cucumbers, onions and olive oil. Glad they made it the way I love. Also ordered the smoke haddock soufflé, and that was also amazing. They said their signature dish was the Beef Wellington, which I have had so many times and from so many places and wanted to see what was so special about this place. Out of everything I ordered this was least favored. It was decent but I definitely had better. The sides mashed potatoes and barbecue hispi cabbage were both great tasting and to end the meal went with the sticky toffee pudding and when the check came they had 2 freshly baked madeleine's and left with a smile. I've been to eat here a couple of times - the first experience was better than the second. They are great at accommodating dietary requirements and the food is good. However, on our second visit the service was clunky and overbearing. Also, we thought we may have to depart before our entrees arrived owing to a theatre visit. There was at least an hour between our starter and entree. We had several different servers that made our experience clunky - one would arrive to ask for our order and then a second. It seemed disjointed. I think Ramsey has become too much of an enterprise and the basics are starting to fail. read more

We had not been here for several years and probably 2 renovations ago when it was green rather than red. The ambiance is great--nice soft music, some lighting (not totally dark but bring your readers or phone) and cozy two-tops for great date nights. We had an excellent somme who directed us to some great pairings with the fish souffle and gazpacho as well as the beef wellington we both enjoyed for our mains. The fish souffle is really rich--definitely shareable. The gazpacho is on the small side in terms of portion; between the bowl shape and the amount of soup, I struggled to get much more than 4 good sized bites. The wellington was lovely and I'd highly recommend medium rare for cook temperature. Anything more and this will dry out beyond the recovery powers of the excellent sauce, which they do leave at the table. The beans were an excellent side and cooked perfectly in the garlic butter. For the end of the meal we had the cheese and eclair. The cheese was huge and just the kind of soft, creamy and stinky cheese that we like. It would have been better if the balsamic was on the side rather than on top. The eclair was really nicely made but had a bit too much orange for me. That's a personal taste thing and clearly a lot of people like orange in their pastry (see Panera bread). We ended with the Manhattan Style cocktail which had a nice blend of several amaros and liquors and wasnt too sweet. Overall it's a solid spot read more

Where to start....this restaurant could not be in a better location - it reflects the very elegance of the Savoy Hotel. Service is exceptional and down right pampering!! Before we ordered warm, crusty, deliciously malty sourdough came to the table with a taurine of perfectly spreadable butter. We started with the veal sweetbread, and oysters from Northern Ireland. A happy mistake of Hackett soufflé also came to the table. Veal sweetbread is not bread at all.....it is made usually from the gullet - it does have the texture of bread....knowing what it is should not detour you from trying because it is outstanding, earthy and scrumptious. The oysters were sublime with a bloody mary sauce. A must try. It'a common in London to have Sunday Roast at many restaurants, and here was no exception. I had a expertly prepared roasted chicken with amazing vegetables and pom puree. My husband had a very delectable Dover sole. He said it was fabulous. I tried it Nd he was right. In fact he said "you can never go wrong at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant" The beat for me was the apple tar-tine for 2 with vanilla madascar ice cream. Yummy. read more

This was an incredibly disappointing experience. Let me first say I've been waiting nearly a decade to try one of Gordon Ramsay's beef wellingtons. While the meat was incredible it was not enough to make up for the outside crust being burned and too hard to put my fork into. The burned crust distracted from the flavor. I ended up cutting it away and continuing with the mushroom mince and meat. The flavor of the creamed spinach again was nice however the lemon zest is what was supporting that. Lemon zest on cream spinach is not something I've seen before but it was a delightful addition. The problem there in was why they bothered calling it "creamed". I know that they used a cream reduction, but what I got just seemed like warm milk pooled at the bottom. I did ask if they could make the cream a bit thicker and the manager just quickly dropped what appeared to me to be the exact same thing on the table and walked away. He did not discuss with me what was done or what the chef did or said and then actually got defensive when I asked. I ended up not continuing with my meal and even further could not find the appropriate staff to wave down to ask for my check. The service here was not great from a lack of presence, putting personality to the Savoy grill, to clearing bread crumbs from the table. I think the only reason why I was able to get any anyone's attention was the sommelier helping the table next to me seeing I was very unhappy just waiting for someone to come by and then go find someone himself to help. The sommelier here seem to be the only staff on point. I can even say, I observed them helping each other and organizing quite closely. I hate to say this, but my experience at Miller and Lux in San Francisco, which is quite literally attached to a basketball stadium provided service, food, and a well prepared beef Wellington, the standard of what I was expecting here. I hate comparing a while. I would hope every fine dining establishment with strive to provide a standard of excellence. I think I was expecting more than what I had previously experienced in past. The standard here was not equal let alone superior, it felt more like a very pretty diner. This was incredibly disappointing. They receive two stars from me, one out of respect for Gordon Ramsay, and two out of respect for what I observed and experienced with their sommelier'. -3 stars for service, food quality, and one for my broken heart. Our dinner at the Savoy Grill restaurant was a big success. We were staying in the Savoy hotel so it was really convenient to have dinner at the restaurant. We absolutely loved what we ordered- herring soufflé (!!!!) and Beef Wellington for myself and a green salad and ribeye for my husband. We've eaten in many great restaurants around the world but this place was really something special. Every dish was perfectly executed and cooked to perfection. This review is actually for The River restaurant at the Savoy but I was unable to locate it. Although I have been to the Savoy Grill in the past and absolutely love it. This time we opted to try Gordon Ramsey's new restaurant The River at The Savoy. As you walk through the marble entry up and down the steps and through the grand tea room, you will enter The River Restaurant. The staff is impeccably professional and greeted and seated us immediately. We enjoyed two fantastic martinis along with some wonderful warm bread. We ordered champagne and wine before our spectacular food arrived. We had an amazing seafood tower filled with lobster, crab, scallops, muscles, oysters, octopus, about everything you could ever want. It was not only beautiful but marvelously tasty! We also chose the fresh fish special of the night, which was one of my favorite, the English Dover sole, which they filleted table side. The brown butter caper sauce was so delicate as well as the Sole. Delicious! We did not have time for dessert because we were off to the theater. But I'm sure that would've been spectacular as well. I want to add that the maître d' even escorted me across the foyer to the women's restroom because my back was acting up. That's perfection in service. Unfortunately, my partner came down with Covid on the flight over from the U.S., and I called as soon as they opened to cancel our reservation. Even providing the maximum amount of advance notice I could, and sparing their waitstaff and other patrons from Covid infection, they charged us 30 pounds a head for being sick. This review is for The River Restaurant at the Savoy. We were greeted immediately and the waitress and Somelier were great helping us select a bottle of wine anywhere from 120 pounds to 3,000 pounds. The food was very tasty. However the biggest complaint is the portion sizes for the amount of money you pay. I ordered the Gnocchi and there were 6 of them. The chicken breast was moist and small too. The beef Wellington was probably the best as far as portion. The food was definitely tasty. Oh the sourdough bread started was ok nothing to rave about. The "family size"sides were enough for 2 only. They were very small. The desserts were a complete disappointment. The ice cream scoop was nearly invisible. The toffee pudding was good with a tiny(almost invisible) scoop of ice cream. Very nice quiet ambiance. Honestly what could fix this is just a little more amount of food and dessert. Dined at the Savoy Grill last night and was sadly disappointed given the "hype". While the beef Wellington was indeed very good, it was not worth the cost. The prime rib was incredibly disappointing and the salmon soufflé was unique, but again, nothing special given the cost. Service was adequate, but less than you would expect - less than stellar attitude as well. As others noted the menu selection was fairly limited.
