    Bacon scones
    Shawn H.

Came here for brunch, and it was every bit as good as the dinner. We the bacon scones, the gazpacho, the sea bream carpaccio, the crab tagliolini, and the lobster roll. These were all incredible -- if I have any regrets, it's that we didn't order more. (We were stuffed at the end, and heading to the airport straight after, otherwise we probably would have.) There are some places where it just feels like no matter what you order, it's going to be among the best you've had of that kind of dish. This place has that feel. If there's a better restaurant in London, I haven't found it.

Foie gras - served with warm bread and a delightful spread of garnishes that allowed for a symphony of tastes

I entered "French restaurant" in the Yelp search field since this is my first time in London, and this was the first restaurant to pop up. I was too jet-lagged to read reviews, so I took a chance and made a same day reservation...one of the best decisions I've made in London! Firstly, the staff were amazingly nice and helpful. I had requested a nice and quiet table for our 10-year anniversary, and they saved me a corner high-top away from thru-traffic. They were all smiles the entire time. We decided to have the tasting menu (didn't do the wine pairing). Everything was superb! Things that I usually don't eat, e.g. scones, pork, rhubarb? Excellent choices! The bacon scone was a perfect mixture of warm saltiness and sweetness baked in a delightful breading that called for the butter to be smeared on it. The oysters had a great flavor that enhanced the freshness. The capers on the greens blended exquisitely with the lemony and crispy bass. I was so happy to eat such amazing food that was served by such attentive staff. Just when I was a bit saddened it was over, they brought out the last dessert and an extra one from the chef to help us celebrate our special day. Thank you, Frenchie, for making it a memorable dining experience!

Lovely first "French" experience in Covent Garden. Very intimate cute little place for a date dinner or friends gathering. Wonderful service and food.

    Bread and butter (£2.5)

The food, ambiance, and service here are all excellent. It's just a tad bit expensive for the portion sizes, but all in all, a fantastic restaurant and I'd come back here again. I want to come back and try the lunch menu which is more affordable than the dinner. I'd give this 4 to 4.5 stars - the quality of the food, ingredients, and plating is all wonderful, and it's a great place but it's expensive. Some dishes are a hit-or-miss, but I still enjoyed the overall experience and would come back for a date or a nice dinner with my parents. We started with the bread and butter (£2.5) which was a little bit pricey since there are 4 small slices, but the bread is warm, fresh, and delicious. I live in France, and the bread at nice restaurants is always included, so it stinks you have to pay for bread here, but at least it's good bread! Bacon Scones (£4) - We loved these, they were small scones, maybe a tad bit smaller than a racquetball, but they were really fresh, savory, and overall indulgent and delicious. I would recommend these as an appetizer. If you have 4 people in your party, maybe get two orders of these so everyone can have one, since they are not that large. Raviolis (£18) - They had smoked potatoes, lobster, and served with a lobster bisque on top. Like most fancy restaurants, when you order ravioli, you'll get one or two pieces of ravioli. These had 3, which was a pleasant surprise, but for the price, you're basically paying £6 per ravioli (yay, I can do math). It's a bit pricey for a dish of pasta, I'd rather just go to an Italian restaurant. But the filling inside had a lot of lobster and it was tasty. Just not sure I'd get this again if I came because it was good, but not mind-blowing, and expensive. Salsify Tagliatelle (£16) - I looked at the word tagliatelle and immediately assumed it was pasta, but I should have googled it because Salsify is a root vegetable like a parsnip. This was a spiralized vegetable dish with white cheddar sauce and a perfectly cooked egg yolk. I may have preferred pasta, but I suppose the vegetables balanced out the creamy cheese sauce. I found the cheese a bit overpowering to the dish and probably wouldn't recommend this. Ibaiama Pork (£26) - This was my favorite dish of the night. I don't normally like eating pork, but the meat was prepared perfectly - it was tender, juicy, and the chickpeas on the side and plating was perfect. I would highly recommend this dish. I was sad when I was done eating this! This is what we ordered for 2 people and it was about £38 per person, which felt a little bit pricey given that we didn't order drinks or dessert and some of the dishes were a bit small. Overall, I'd still come back here again. This is a great spot if you're traveling for work and can expense your meal, or if you want to treat yourself or a special someone to a nice dinner. Best dishes of the night were the bacon scones and the pork.

One of my favorite restaurants in London! This is a small restaurant with tables lined on one wall and a bar on the other. This small cozy restaurant had a great wine list and cocktails. Every bite we had was beyond delicious!

I have to admit its been a very long time since I actually enjoyed French food but Frenchie really did it for me!! We shared a few starters: Grilled octopus: it was grilled to perfection and the greek yoghurt and pickled gherkin was just delicious. Scottish mussels: honest to god it was the best mussels Ive had in my entire life so far (and Im from Belgium ) the curried sauce was just so silky and smooth I would have eaten them over and over. Duck foie gras: quite classic combination but really tasty and I really like the pickled girolles We share a main: Ibaiama pork: it was just cooked to perfection, the pork was tasty and moist! The aubergine and zataan puree were really good but the goat cheese and date puree just didnt work altogether it just tasted as 2 separate dishes. As a "dessert" we had cocktails : pink pepper negroni and something is the new orange (sorry I cant remember the exact name) To my surprise the cocktails were very good. I loved Frenchie and totally understood why Timeout already put it on is top 100 restaurant in London although it just opened in early 2016 (if Im not mistaken) I just want to go back

Frenchie Covent Garden is a great new addition to the London restaurant scene with tasty and inventive dishes, served in a light, friendly and unpretentious environment. When I was in Paris last summer, I had a great pulled pork sandwich at Frenchie To Go. So I was happy when I read that they wanted to bring Frenchie to London. The London outpost is next to the excellent steak restaurant Flat Iron in Covent Garden. It is good to see two new places that are so different on one street. I really liked the clean, simple, kind of minimalist but polished design. Dominated by light colours, white walls, grey leather and metal tables, the style feels a little bit scandi-esque. Which is always a good thing. The menu is short and seasonal. Unfortunately, you cannot lookup beforehand what's on. Being a bit picky, I usually mostly avoid going to such places. However, given that I liked Frenchie To Go in Paris, I thought I should check out the London branch anyway. Like the menu, the wine list also isn't very long, and I thought it is perhaps weaker than expected especially when it comes to the whites. The dry Italian white that was recommended to me, "Contra Vespa 12" it says on the receipt - I guess it means something like 2012 Contra Soarda Vespaiolo from Veneto, Italy - was not as dry as I had hoped. It had a distinctive taste, quite a lot of fruit and some flowers. The menu is concise and really exquisit. After discussing briefly with the waitress, I ordered duck eggs with black truffle as starter. I must admit, the black truffle did not do too much for me. What made the dish for me was the perfectly boiled eggs, smooth in texture, soft, but not runny, in combination with seeds that added a nice crunch. The bread arrived with the starter, exactly two slices, I think one was slightly darker than the other. Both had a great, solid crust and were very soft inside. The butter was revealed with a somewhat theatrical move, which was entertaining. But even better, the butter tasted very nice. Continuing with the waitress' recommendations, my main was chicken with, I believe, heritage carrots and kumquats. The fruity, not-too-sweet sauce was great, the kumquat - kind of like mini orange slices - interesting together with the sweet carrots. When I ordered, I was surprised that there are really no sides on the menu. As I got my plate, I was happy with the portion. I would not have minded one side dish, but it was not actually needed. Clearly, the chicken was the undisputed star of he dish. It was quite a large piece of chicken, smooth and juicy and probably just about the most delicious chicken piece I can remember. And after I had already liked the roasted seeds in the starter, they made a crunchy return in the main, very welcome. Because the white wine left me a little bit disappointed, I browsed the wine list and had a closer look at the reds. I got myself a glass of the 2013 "La Luna" Pinot Noir from New Zealand and enjoyed it a lot. It tasted like a very typical Pinot Noir, light, with a certain depth to it, and not sweet. After consulting the menu again, I decided to conclude my dinner with a French Laguiole cheese. The thin slice with crackers was delicious together with the Pinot Noir. The cheese reminded me of the Spanish Manchego - no idea if they are actually similar, however, my palate thinks so. Frenchie Covent Garden does outstanding, interesting food in a light, modern restaurant. If you get a table downstairs in the basement, you could also go for a tasting menu with wine pairings and watch the chefs doing their thing in the open kitchen. While watching chefs in the kitchen is always fun, I was pretty happy to get a place upstairs. There were some little things, where the restaurant could perhaps improve. As the London branch is just open for a week or two, I should probably not be too harsh. I found it a little bit irritating that they took the fork I used for my starter, but kept the knife on the table. Maybe the concept actually is to keep fork and knife and I just didn't get it. Then, there was an eternal wait between the small starter and the well-sized main. And even for central London, the pricing ranges from fair (main) via ambitious (starter) to outrageous (cheese). Overall, Frenchie in Covent Garden is without a question worth a visit. As the menu changes regularly, you never know what will be on offer. But if they always have a range of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes, it should be possible for most people to find something they like. And an ever-changing menu also signals that they keep thinking about their dishes which can lead to more exciting creations than at your average steakhouse or gastro pub.

The good - bacon scones. Warm flavourful. Yum
    Chrissy H.

Hit and miss. The good was amazing. The bad was generally too salty. See my pics for the winners and lovers. I'd go back to eat the good again. Staff were friendly and service was pretty good but the seating upstairs was super cramped. It looked much more spacious downstairs so try and request a seat downstairs.

Duck foie gras, Yorkshire rhubarb, sorrel & lovage

Food - 4* Service - 4* Ambience - 4* Value for money - 4* We originally reserved seats at the bar counter, but was offered a table downstairs which had views of the open kitchen. Overall, the restaurant decor is very smart and modern. The ambience downstairs was warm and comfortable, served by a French waitress who was immediately friendly and enthusiastic. We opted for the tasting menu, which started off with a couple of hors d'oeuvres, including a fried salmon skin which was nice and crispy to tease your palate. The starter was foie gras with rhubarb that goes very well with the bread, although the rhubarb made the dish slightly too sour. The second fish course , Arctic char glazed in a coat made of seaweed and wild garlic, was almost too beautiful to eat. The fatty fish was balanced well with the accompanied drops of smoked yoghurt, miso and bergamot. For mains, we had perfectly cooked lamb from Elwy Valley, served with slightly underdone artichoke and goats curd, which complements the lamb extremely well. Last but not least, the lemon dessert coated with kalamata olives and rosemary mix, with shards of crunchy meringue was the perfect combination of sweet, yet refreshing and fresh. Overall, a uniquely presented tasting menu, although not completely French, the international ingredients definitely worked well.

For my main course, I got the Steak d'Agneau au Romarin Grilled lamb steak with red wine & rosemary sauce (served with sautéed potatoes). This was delicious as well! The lamb steak was so tender and flavorful and the sauce went so well with it. The potatoes also went very well with the lamb. I have also had their Filets de Cabillaud Rôti (baked cod fillets with sun-dried tomato and cream sauce), served with leek and potato mash. This was excellent! The cod was so fresh and the sauce was to-die-for! I could have licked all of the sauce off of my plate (if it were socially acceptable haha). The sauce was so fresh and paired so well with the fish. The potato mash was also fantastic--perfect texture. For dessert, I had a rhubarb tart. This was delicious! I loved how the tart wasn't too sweet and I could really taste the rhubarb. The service was also excellent. The servers and managers were very attentive and considerate of my husband's allergies. They were super accommodating, which is the reason we came back again! Given how difficult it was to get a seat, I would have liked to have been seated in the main dining room with the more impressive array of decorations, but my tiny table tucked away in a corner near the entrance wasn't all bad; decorations were still plentiful, and I didn't feel in the way of passing traffic. With the food, you get what you pay for; which may not be as much as you might think given the "poshness" of the place. Without booze, you shouldn't end up paying more than £50pp. The menu has an array of seasonal favorites like Hertfordshire Beef with a red wine jus, roast chicken with leeks and girolle mushrooms, and seasbass with Autumn vegetables. Seasonal desserts are also available and the booze is seemingly never-ending. You can never go wrong with the chicken here, regardless of season, and with a seasoned sommelier always on-hand, rest assured all your wine pairing needs will be met. The beef and venison dishes are also superb, with both light and hearty sides to compliment them perfectly. Dessert can be a hit or miss. I paired mine with the recommended Bordeaux wine to wash down the sweetness, and let me tell you, it was an extra £14 well spent.
