    Steak frites

Came here for a quick dinner and I wasn't particularly impressed. The frites were solid but the steak was just ok; thankfully the herby butter on top was good. The banoffee pie was a miss. Overall it was worth trying but I wouldn't come back.

One of our favorite restaurants in London hands down. The portion size and great, staff is lovely and not too pushy, and the price is reasonable. Lamb shank: nice and tender. It's huge tho so share it if you wanna try other things Seabass: enjoyed it! Decent size and well cooked. Hake: like this better than the seabass. Very saucy! Crispy Brie: gooey on the inside and great with the caramelized shallots Beef tartare: awesome portion! Only thing I don't like is too much pickle in there but still great! Bread basket: very soft baguette and the butter was delicious!! One compliant is the manager freaking out on the staffs. Impacted the nice ambiance but other than that, very very nice experience.

One of few places which is open till late at night during weekdays which can become an issue when you're looking to dine out late - however , downs not have a lot of options that you'd expect to see in French specialty restaurant

Landed in London and first meal in the city was at Pierre Victoire on a recommendation from a friend. We went on a Monday at around 530 and were about the 2nd or 3rd table seated for a group of three. Got ourselves a nice window seat so it was great! They had a 2-course or 3-three course set menu for £14.90 or £17.90, respectively. I went with the latter. Had the butternut squash soup, the Conchiglie summer pasta, and creme brulee. I also tried the steamed mussels in white wine and couldn't decide whether I liked that broth more or the soup. Both were amazing with the sliced baguette pieces we received and probably the reasons why I'm giving this 5 stars!

Truly delicious French cuisine!!! A pre-fix menu with the main traditional French dishes with a little twist. The duck confit was spot on. The atmosphere is cozy. The staff are friendly and non-intrusive.

Teresa C. recommended meeting here one evening. She told me about the price range and I made an assumption about what I would be getting for my money. Boy! Did I underestimate this place! It's quite an understated place. You could easily walk right by it. But look out for it if you can. It's got the intimate feel you would expect of a little french bistro. The quality of the food far outweigh the prices. We got there quite early in the evening on a week night. We had no reservation but getting a table was easy. It was starting to pick up as we were leaving. This place is extremely good value for money.

I often come here with my boyfriend when we want to have a bit of a special meal. It is romantic enough and not too expensive which does us just fine. The French cuisine served here is really good and well cared for. It is best for meat eaters as the steaks are delicious and cooked to perfection. The inside is quite small, but comfortable. It is best to eat in the upstairs section since there is often a pianist playing lovely tunes in the evenings, and it feels more breezy. Booking a table for the upstairs is probably a good idea as this restaurant fills up very quickly. Last year I also experienced their Christmas meal which was just as delicious, and am hoping to go there again this season.

I've been to Pierre Victoire a couple of times for their cheap and cheerful early bird menu. Being in central London, just around the corner from Soho Square, it's great for dining at before you head out for the night when eating isn't particularly the main priority. If you order before 7pm from the selected choices two courses are only £9.90. Bargain! If you pay a £3 or £6 supplement you can incorporate most of the premium dishes from their affordable French menu into your deal, such as the steak that is consistently good, or the sea bass (the quality of their sea food is also another good surprise for such a reasonable price). Their cheap wine list is OK, nothing that your tastebuds will fall in love with, but it doesn't taste like paint stripper either so It will do just fine. Although you don't have one waiter assigned to your table, so you miss out on an intimate service, it does mean a quick turnaround that is convenient for lunch in an hour, and at £7.90 for two courses from the lunch time menu, it wont break the bank either. As my city friend describes it: "A credit-crunch, power lunch." There's always a buzzy atmosphere, constantly topped up with more hungry customers who are conscious of their purse strings. They do add a 12% service charge that seems a little sneaky since as their selling point is a two course meal for under a tenner, but I guess it's only fair. Just be careful that you don't miss this and end up tipping twice.

We recently dined in Pierre Victoire and it was a mixed experience. Going with my fussy eater mother she was tempted in by the advertised two course menu for £9.99 which included steak and frites. We should have reported the owners to trade descriptions because once inside reading the confusing, badly copied, handwritten mess that is the menu we realised that all the steaks and some of the other meat courses all had a supplementary £5 charge, which is a bit cheeky. Still, we stayed. The snotty waitress eventually came and took our order, the wine was good and reasonably priced. My lamb was tremendous and my mother enjoyed her steak and frites. She had coffee after and as a culinary treat it was okay. So why the three stars. Mainly the menu, it is a mess, but also the service was appalling. Too much attitude not enough manners. I know a good waiter should never be seen but that only applies to when serving, surely they could be more forthcoming and helpful upon arrival, especially in such a tourist trap area!

I started with the Camembert Frit (Camembert cheese coated in breadcrumbs, fried, and served with redcurrant and raspberry coulis). This was delicious! The cheese paired so well with the raspberry coulis and it was no greasy at all (perfectly fried). For my main course, I got the Steak d'Agneau au Romarin Grilled lamb steak with red wine & rosemary sauce (served with sautéed potatoes). This was delicious as well! The lamb steak was so tender and flavorful and the sauce went so well with it. The potatoes also went very well with the lamb. I have also had their Filets de Cabillaud Rôti (baked cod fillets with sun-dried tomato and cream sauce), served with leek and potato mash. This was excellent! The cod was so fresh and the sauce was to-die-for! I could have licked all of the sauce off of my plate (if it were socially acceptable haha). The sauce was so fresh and paired so well with the fish. The potato mash was also fantastic--perfect texture. For dessert, I had a rhubarb tart. This was delicious! I loved how the tart wasn't too sweet and I could really taste the rhubarb. The service was also excellent. The servers and managers were very attentive and considerate of my husband's allergies. They were super accommodating, which is the reason we came back again! The have a great price for their prixe fixe menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! In a nut shell, great service, excellent food, fair prices and great ambience!

The Food: We did the Valentine's set menu, and a fair warning: it creeps up on you! Every course is delicious, but by the time dessert arrived, we were absolutely stuffed. Even if you aren't typically a seafood fan, give it a chance here. The dishes are incredibly approachable, well-balanced, and clearly had a lot of thought put into the flavors. The Vibe & Dress Code: The atmosphere is unmatched, but learn from our mistake! We spent the day exploring Covent Garden and didn't have time to head back and change. You definitely want to dress smart-professional to match the elegance of the restaurant. We felt a little underdressed for the level of experience they provide! Given how difficult it was to get a seat, I would have liked to have been seated in the main dining room with the more impressive array of decorations, but my tiny table tucked away in a corner near the entrance wasn't all bad; decorations were still plentiful, and I didn't feel in the way of passing traffic. With the food, you get what you pay for; which may not be as much as you might think given the "poshness" of the place. Without booze, you shouldn't end up paying more than £50pp. The menu has an array of seasonal favorites like Hertfordshire Beef with a red wine jus, roast chicken with leeks and girolle mushrooms, and seasbass with Autumn vegetables. Seasonal desserts are also available and the booze is seemingly never-ending. You can never go wrong with the chicken here, regardless of season, and with a seasoned sommelier always on-hand, rest assured all your wine pairing needs will be met. The beef and venison dishes are also superb, with both light and hearty sides to compliment them perfectly. Dessert can be a hit or miss. I didn't like my first experience here with the Delice, but my second experience was a delicious poached pear with a superb buckwheat ice cream and buckwheat-infused biscuit. I paired mine with the recommended Bordeaux wine to wash down the sweetness, and let me tell you, it was an extra £14 well spent. Overall, this isn't the type of place you visit every week, or even every month, but it's definitely worth planning months in advance to come during the hholiday season. Reservations are a MUST.

My sister-in-law wanted to go to Sketch while we were in London, so I booked a table for us (plus…read moremy husband and brother) on our last night in town. When I looked it up, I learned that it had three Michelin stars, and that I had been once before, on a random date in 2009. Sketch, it turns out, is about five bars and restaurants in one. The part I remembered was the East Bar & Pods, with the giant egg-shaped bathrooms. Dinner was in the Lecture Room & Library, a completely different space with a completely different feel. It was spectacular, the decor bright and over the top, an opulent Wonderland fantasy. We sat in giant armchairs in muppet colors, surrounded by expensive upholstery and crystal. Service was impeccable, warm and attentive, well deserving of those Michelin stars. We drank well, starting with a round of cocktails. I liked my Manhattan, with bourbon, pineapple rum, sweet vermouth, crème de cacao, muscovado, and chocolate mole and Creole bitters. The Champs-Élysées was great, too, with Henessy VSOP, green Chartreuse, lemon, sugar, and peach bitters. I was also impressed with the mint-green Grasshopper, a dangerously drinkable mix of two rums, Briottet menthe verte and cacao blanc, Velvet Falernum, and cream. Once dinner started in earnest, we enjoyed the wine pairing, seven thoughtfully selected wines to go with our tasting menu. They were all lovely, and added a lot to the experience. We opted for the tasting menu over the a la carte, which offered more choice but actually cost £10 more. This was the right choice, no decisions and a stream of surprising delights, starting with a spread of welcome bites. There was cured sea bass with strawberry and a foam of green peas, a mussel with green curry, a tiny tartlet of parmesan and chorizo. Compressed watermelon with Campari, mozzarella rolled in zucchini, a sandwich of shiso, green apple, and lime. Two little jellies came served on ice: a burst of tomato and olive, and another of dirty martini. Bread service brought butter brioche, fennel focaccia, and a brown bread with candied walnut and currant. A trio of butters, too, salted, caramel, and citrus. Then, the first course of the tasting menu. Cornish mackerel and shellfish mariniere with leek and Dijon mustard, as well as duck foie gras Chantilly with confit red bell peppers and nasturtium leaf ice cream. Superb. Course two was all about lobster. Native lobster tail coated in carrot reduction with lemon, with borlotti beans, smoked aubergine, green strawberry, and zucchini. Then a lettuce roll stuffed tight with claw meat, along with fromage blanc, mint, and sweet corn. The third course was built around tomato. Tomato foam emulsified with olive oil, topped with tapenade and pistachio, and dried tomato leaf with oregano; a sort of tostada with tomato, grilled spinach leaves, onion, caper, and shortcrust; tomato pan-fried with chickpea flower on a Montgomery cheddar mousse with pink pepper; a cool, intense clarified consommé with tarragon. Next, a unique blue fin tuna tartare, with Japanese rice, Oscietra caviar, vodka pearls, and smoked eel sauce infused with pinecones. Then, a wild sea bass fillet cooked in demi-sel butter and wrapped in cabbage, served over squid with anchovy, tomatillo, and scallion with chorizo. Our last savory course was French black leg chicken with Perrier-Jouët Brut "sauce ivoire," summer leaves fondue, fresh almonds, and apricot coulis; as well as confit chicken thigh with potato crystalline and sorrel with raspberry. Dinner ended with a dessert extravaganza. If my notes are to be trusted, we had poached strawberry and rhubarb with pineapple granita, wasabi, and finger lime; orange yogurt foam with hazelnuts; an il flotante with peach and sangria jelly; rhum baba with orange foam and pink grapefruit marmalade; a Chartreuse parfait with white chocolate, celery, and verjus; and a chocolate tart with layers of pastry dough and crispy capers. Finally, a few mignardises, which I failed to document. It was 11:30 by the time we settled up, but we asked to see the rest of Sketch and ended up staying until one in the morning. We skipped the East Bar, which was too loud, but used the egg pods. Less impressive this time around, reminiscent of airplane bathrooms. The Lecture Room bathroom, on the other hand, was a Vegased out infinity room. We had a nightcap in the Glade, a stunningly beautiful lounge with excellent cocktails. I had the Glade twist on the Kingston Negroni, with pineapple rum, cachaça, Campari, vermouth, strawberry, and tomato water. My husband had a Gin Basil Smash with yuzu liqueur, basil, and citrus. I believe my brother and sister-in-law had a Gimlet with sake, Belvedere, tutti-frutti, and olive brine, and a Porn Star Martini with Belvedere, passion fruit, citrus, sugar, vanilla, and Champagne. A+ all around. If you want to treat yourself in London, Sketch is a truly marvelous destination. Splurge on dinner, or just grab a drink and use the loo.
