And then I heard the other barista say something along the lines of, "oh Aida, how about 'Aida' rather not be here", pretty rude if you ask me. And then I ordered the spicy nook sandwich. And when another server called my named to grab it she didn't even knowledge me when I tried to thank her and instead she talked to her coworker while I was right in front of her. Worth the Trip to Brooklyn for the French Toast Alone!…read more My friends and I (party of 4) stopped by Sal & Cookie's Ultra Fine Diner, and from the moment we walked in, we knew this place had a vibe. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of Southern charm. We later found out that several of the staff are actually from the South, which made perfect sense. We were lucky enough to sit at the Charles Oakley table, and as a lifelong Knicks fan, that was a really cool surprise. I ordered the 2 eggs with cheese, cheese grits, toast, and a side of buttermilk pancakes. The scrambled eggs with cheese were fluffy and flavorful, and even the toast was delicious (yes, I notice good toast!). Now let's talk about the star of the show... The Crispy French Toast One of my friends ordered it, and thankfully we planned to share. Let me tell you... Chef's kiss. It's rolled in Corn Flakes, giving it the perfect crispy crunch on the outside while staying soft inside. Here's my little secret: I judge pancakes, waffles, and French toast by whether they're good without syrup. This French toast passed with flying colors. It honestly didn't need syrup at all. It was that good. I'd seriously make another trip to Brooklyn just for this French toast. The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy and tasty, although I preferred them with syrup. Still very good. The cheese grits themselves were creamy and delicious. They use mozzarella, but honestly, the cheese wasn't very noticeable. I'd love just a little more cheese flavor because the grits themselves were excellent. Another person at our table ordered the Masa Pancakes with spicy honey butter. I didn't taste the pancakes, but everyone said they were delicious--even without syrup--and that spicy honey butter was outstanding. We also shared an order of the fried beef bologna. It was tasty, although it wasn't my favorite item on the table. One person loved the coffee, especially the praline sweetener they serve with it. I had the lemonade, and it was incredibly refreshing on a 95-degree, hot and humid Brooklyn day. Our server, Hope, was fantastic. She's from Tennessee, and her Southern hospitality absolutely shined. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Service was quick, the food came out fast, and everything was fresh. Even better? I had leftovers, and they were still delicious...even cold! If you're anywhere near Brooklyn, do yourself a favor and stop by Sal & Cookie's Ultra Fine Diner. Just don't skip the Crispy French Toast. Trust me. Food: Service: Atmosphere: Must Order: Crispy French Toast, Masa Pancakes with Spicy Honey Butter, Buttermilk Pancakes, Cheese Grits Final Verdict: I'll definitely be back. The French toast alone is worth crossing boroughs for.

Oh Boy

First time checking out Oh Boy, after coming across it online, and since I love a good breakfast…read moresandwich, I figured I'd give it a try. I ordered The griddy (I believe that's what it's called), which is essentially a fresh-made version of McDonald's McGriddle. I went with bacon and a side of home fries, and I have to say, the sandwich did not disappoint! It's a pretty big sandwich, and one thing I really appreciated was that the food actually looked like the pictures online. Let's be honest, that's not always the case! The sandwich was flavorful, and I liked that they served it with a side of syrup. Unlike McDonald's McGriddle, where the pancake itself is noticeably sweet, the bread here wasn't quite as sweet, so having the syrup on the side gave me the option to add as much as I wanted. The home fries were good, but a little too salty for my liking. They do come with a dipping sauce, which helped balance out the saltiness, but I think they could definitely go a little lighter on the seasoning. Now, let's talk about the wait time. I visited on a Sunday morning between 9:30 and 10 AM, and the wait was longer than I expected for breakfast. There was a couple who came in before me, but I was served before them, and they ended up leaving. From what I observed, the restaurant seems better suited for takeout and quick pickups rather than sitting down and waiting for your food. Overall, the food made up for some of the wait. The sandwich was delicious, generously sized, and definitely worth trying if you're a breakfast sandwich lover. My rating: 4 out of 5! I'd come back for the food, but that wait time is the one thing keeping this from being a five-star experience. Both of these items were good but for the amount that comes with them it's pricy (you get 2 small bao tacos and 4 pieces of gyoza, both of which are $20-22 each). I liked the bao tacos the most because of the mixture of flavors and textures, including the excellently friend fish. The gyoza was different.
