edit: here is my proposed fix: Help the three employees (at…read morethe time of this original post) to start an LLC for management of the property, with oversight by an agreed upon third party. I say this, because I believe that they would be able to better-structure business patterns due to their proximity to the business and personal success in managing the difficult requirements. This would allow you both to succeed to the best effect, in my view. Thoughts? Send them to SouthStreetStorage@matthewhouston.net Draconian, heavy-handed tactics. "Cover Your Ass" contracts and then no notice of a missed payment until 22 days afterward when fees have already been assessed. I'm in a very difficult financial situation and dependent of the help of others, and now I find that my property is being held hostage, without my being able to prevent it in any way. I'm sad to say that this is on or for the industry, which is why I'd stated that I would never use one of these type businesses again. I was was convinced to do it by my edit: the corporate office guy's reply sort of gives the impression that these messages were left prior to the day in question. I've received voicemails, but not prior to September 22, when I wrote this review. This practice is apparently industry standard behavior. I'd previously had my property auctioned off by a similar company who did the exact same t

I hope to never be involved in a live-in relationship again. The fact is, after a long 15 year,…read moreoff-and-on courtship, I had planned to get my llfe together and propose this past January, but unfortunately the relationship ended a month earlier. On December 3, 2008, I left my life and within a night, moved blindly to North Long Beach with little more than a Bible and a blanket. Over the following week I'd stop by to pick up things like clothes, our turtle Fred (he's 9 now), and my Magic Mic so I could karaoke songs like Walk On By or More Than Words with a comforting friend (thanks René) and a few Heineken Lights. With little chance of fitting everything into my Honda, I left a lot of larger items like my bikes, a couch, my patio set, a bookshelf as well as a lot of electronics like PCs, printers, a fax machine, etc... I hate going to that house now, I'm uncomfortable there...memories of simple things like making her breakfast on a Sunday morning...but it had to be done. I know it's been 8 months, and that's too long so last week, I made arrangements to pick up my crap. Still in a small Honda, I needed a plan so I looked at www.UHaul.com. With my zip code, I was able to make reservations to rent a truck at South Street Self Storage (not too far). I received a call in the early evening confirming my truck reservation for the following morning. When picking up the truck, I found the staff at South Street Self Storage to be polite, putting up with me being Ivan, etc...They even suggested that I could call if I was running a little late, and they would wait for me, so I wouldn't be charged for an extra day. That seems really generous to me. I gave them my driver license and a credit card and was out of there within 10 minutes or so and on my way to OC to get my stuff. It all worked out really well...When I returned it, they did the math, calculated the mileage and I was good to go... _____ Notes: 1) Looking back, Mike McManus's "Living Together: Myths, Risks & Answers" seems like it would have been a worthwhile read... 2) Rates: 10' Truck=$19.95 + $0.79/mile, 14' Truck=$29.95 + $0.79/mile, 17' Truck=$29.95 + $0.79/mile...optional $14.95 insurance covers the truck and your goods, $29.95 covers everything, including the poor sucker that you backed in to...$75 deposit and don't forget to fill the tank... 3) If moving a distance of greater than 50 miles, it makes sense to rent the truck "One Way" and drop it off near your destination. It's more cost effective. 4) When renting a truck, I believe it's worth it to spend the extra money and go larger than what you think you may need...it's better than making an extra trip at $0.79/mile

I really appreciate them helping me out during my moving experience. I ended up needing to move…read moreinto a new space, and they were super accommodating. They were able to get me a great quote with a good moving deal that was available online, and the facility itself is very easy to navigate, spacious, with an accessible elevator, carts to help move, and they've been great in offering my alternative spaces to rent that may suit my needs. It's an overall affordable and clean environment where I can safely store my valuables and feel confident that my things are safe and secure. With security also being good with constant video surveillance, I feel comfortable, especially with the added security in not being able to access other floors without a personal space on that level. I have a spot on the third level and I can't even tell that it is because of how accessible everything is. I would recommend this facility to anyone and especially give a positive word on behalf of their great customer service and prompt communication regarding my questions and needs. Thank you

My sister recommended this place. I needed a place to move to asap that gave me access until as…read morelate as possible. I had to move out of my old apt because my landlord needed his unit back and paid me for movers and storage. At first, this place seemed awesome! Great location. But as time went by... even though I paid on time (auto pay), my code kept saying "see manager." The first time, he said something about my ID. I went and gave him my ID even though I already finished the process online. THEN... as months kept going by... same issue: "see manager"... what is going on?! How am I NOT able to access my belongings in the space I've been paying for?! Then I found out they can compensate for the trouble and offer a credit or something. So I called the office. THEY said they won't do it because I should've told them each time it happened. What?! They said they gave me a new code and then the same thing kept happening! I just went with my sister whenever she went to get access to the unit! THEN... they said they had locked me in on the rate I had but I got an email saying that they were raising it and then another email saying to disregard... but SUDDENLY, I got charged for $270 for my unit almost $100 more and the place isn't even temperature controlled like advertised! It was hot inside and muggy! Don't rent on the 3rd floor! Next, I had to move my stuff out of my sister's and needed more space and since my stuff was there already, I found a deal and got a smaller unit. They were trying to charge me extra for a transfer? No! I just needed another new unit! So I got a deal for 2 months like it advertised online... except... it pro rated the first month deal and that means I don't get exactly 2 months discount deal, I get whatever is left of the current month! That's shady! But I was desperate so I took it! They charged me the extra lock for overpriced amount and I went in to let the staff know I had my own lock. She told me to come the day I'm supposed to move in and show the manager and he'll refund me the amount. So I came today, 9/11/26 (I know) & no one was in the office! I had movers charging by the hour, babysitting my stuff while waiting for someone in the office to PICK UP! The operator said the manager's lunch hour starts at 1:30. So I ran to the office and it said "Be back at 9:30" but there's another smaller sign that said "CLOSED today!" I called again and the operator said there's NO record on file that it was supposed to be closed. So another lady pulls up and she called the hotline too. We're both standing in the hot sun trying to reach someone and I got movers waiting for me to get the lock opened off my unit I PAID for! I had to move my stuff to someone else's unit temporarily (THANK GOD, they let me!) and come back the next day! I called to see if someone would be there tomorrow (Saturday) and they said they cannot guarantee! To call 9:30am before driving there! This is ridiculous! I'm looking up the owners to send them a message. I'd like some form of refund or credit or compensation for the distress and the days I haven't been able to access my unit, please! Don't come here unless it's the cheapest option you can ever find! If my back wasn't hurting & I can afford movers and a truck again... I'd move everything out and somewhere else!
