Been twice. Well really 1.5. First times was not great. I'd rate it 3 at best. But the service was not good. The second time we came in we waited forever for THREE employees at the hostess stand to pay any attention to us. Eventually the main hostess asked us and we requested a table in the bar area. (This was around 4:30 and the place was almost empty). She comes back eventually and says she is ready to seat us on the main dining room. I politely remind here we just want to sit at a table in the bar (it's like 10 feet away so all she has to say is sure, pick wherever u want). Nope, she says just a minute....then stands there After 5 more minutes we walked out. About 12 min total at an empty restaurant at late afternoon. Ridiculous. read more

Tried this place for the first time last night and will gladly return. The building is beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff was professional, courteous and provided exceptional service. The food was fantastic to say the least. I had the French onion soup and trio of filet medallions.. everything was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Bernaise sauce was great, but the blue cheese crumble was amazing! Have to be a big blue cheese fan because it packs a strong flavor. Also, they have these dinner rolls that are to die for. They are dense, sweet, soft on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, poppy seed rolls.. and they are fanTAStic!! Last but not least, if you're in to desserts, the carrot cake was the best I've ever had. Layered, moist cake with perfect cream cheese frosting and lots of pecans. I have seen other reviews on here say they had a long wait time, but we were with a party of 9 during busy dinner service and food came out very quickly. Needles to say... I'll be back read more

So let me say that there are many restaurants in Troy, especially neighboring this place that are far superior BUT this is still a good place. I saw this place being built for a while and drove past it regularly. This past Sunday I was going to have dinner at Capital Grille in Troy and passed this place thinking I should try it now that its open, and as I tried opening the door to Capital Grille I realized they don't open until 5, so I headed here for the first time. The parking lot is confusing to get to, there isn't a direct entrance, I had to go through the Columbia center entrance - no big deal it is what it is. It's about 4 PM at this point and its slightly warm inside but not hot - I imagine when its crowded its very hot inside. The decor is nicely done, its a very casual restaurant, I wouldn't feel the need to 'dress up' to go here at all. A polo shirt and khakis would suffice. They had a nice wine and champagne list although almost everything was by the bottle, not glass. The cocktail list could use some revamping. We were seated immediately, and out of the whole restaurant thats empty they put us next to a loud party of 10. Once seated it took a while to get greeted, a busboy presumably came over and got our waters and told us our waiter would be with us shortly. He brought Sprite instead of soda water but my still water was fine. The brought us bread which isn't very good. They bring 4 small rolls that taste sweet, almost doughnut like. We each had 1 and gave the rest back, they were not good. Our food came quickly once we ordered and it was very good and plentiful. I got the bistro chicken but I substituted the garlic whipped potatoes for parmesan fries and I wish I hadn't, it also came with broccoli that wasn't cooked fully. My partner got a NY strip and baked potato - all was good on his end. My chicken came with 3 pieces which was surprising but nice. The wine we decided on was actually out so we ordered a different one which was fine. The waitress was prompt and friendly as well. Now to the negatives, upon walking up the chef and another worker were outside smoking, and theres no smoking signs on the door even. Not sure why the employees don't have to follow their own rules - and as a NON smoker I find the smell off-putting, hopefully they washed their hands. The menus needed a serious cleaning - absolutely dirty and gross. The bathroom was clean but there was water on the counters - somebody should be keeping those wiped. They also have a bunch of spots taken up for veterans/military personnel. That doesn't bother me at all, its just odd to see. read more

The food was very good. You must make a reservation or you will have to wait or even come back the next day. Our waiter was OK but at the same time very occupied with other guests. read more

The managers Matt, John, Ms. Raines, and Daniel are very passionate about their positions. It comes across in their attentiveness to the guests and their staff. The wait and bar staff is very efficient and warm. I look forward to returning soon!!! I highly recommend their steaks!!!! read more

My wife and I went here for happy hour with our 10 month old son. Our waiter had the personality of a rock and never even introduced himself, but we overlooked this as we have been to a Stoney River in other states before and knew their reputation. We ordered the steak bites which were absolutely delicious. We came home and later that night something just didn't feel quite right. About 11:00 I had to run to the bathroom to scream into the porcelain throne as my liquified guts poured from my mouth. I then spent the next 5 hours rotating between the toilet, huddled fetal position on the tile, and cold sweats in my bed. I eventually ran out of anything to escape my throat and spent multiple hours just screaming into the toilet as I dry heaved over and over again. My wife's symptoms set in a few hours later and created a mural of vomit on the back of the toilet as she wasn't able to make it to the bathroom in time. Needless to say, we are throwing away the remainder of our leftovers for the sake of our child who spent today with two incapacitated parents. Sadly, we will not be returning for a round 2. read more

I wasn't a huge fan. The service was nice, but slow. My friends and I ordered drinks, and it was quite a while until the server returned. One of my friends ordered a steak dish with whipped potatoes and asparagus. The steak was overdone and over seasoned. The potatoes were wonderful!! Another friend ordered the ahi tuna salad. The tuna was good. The salad part was lacking. I ordered the bistro chicken. I asked for no crusting. The server had to go make sure they could do that. He was quite rude about it. The chicken came out really good. I had asked for one side of the veggies in place of the potatoes. This was ignored. My friend ate them, and it was all good. The drinks were not refilled often, or really at all. I'm not sure, maybe just one bad experience. read more

By far one of the best steaks I've had in a long time, I was really skeptical of this place at first because it's owned by J Alexander's, which has completely gone down hill over the past few years(check out my review from there, coming soon) This place has exceeded my expectations, I had a reservation and when we got there got seated immediately, we started out with the bread and flavored butter, beyond amazing, the bread came out hot and there was plenty of it. The appetizer came next, I ended up getting the tortilla soup. The quality was very good and it was a decent portion overall a solid 4/5, I think my tortilla soup is better ;) The entree, I ordered the New York strip steak well done, ( make fun of me later lol) I'm not brave enough to eat it any other way . It came out perfect, still juicy. I also had a side of asparagus with a side of béarnaise sauce a solid 5/5 Then next was the Bistro Chicken, super delicious, one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had. Highly recommend. Overall this place was very good, I was impressed with everything. The place was nice and a friendly environment. It won't get a 5 star yet, my next visit needs to be the same or better! Consistency is everything!! read more

I used to recommend this place to everyone. I always said whatever you ordered, you can't go wrong with the foods. Now I am no longer recommending this place. The service is very slow. She's forgetful. Not attentive. Foods come out with no silverware. Salad without salad dressing. We constantly were help from our non-server. Food taste way different than before. The mixed drinks were also bad. My favorite mojito is not drinkable anymore. read more

I am disappointed in the decline of this establishment since its opening, and I used to love this place until recently. I visited for lunch today and had a dirty coffee mug. Our appetizer and drinks never arrived, fries were incredibly stale, and my soup tasted and looked as if soap residue was lingering inside. At least when the bill came, our waitress remembered, and in chronological order, to apologize for the cup, the soup, and not bringing our appetizer or drinks. Leaving hungry and sad, I will not be returning here. read more

Great Food - Confused and ill-trained wait staff First time visiting. The menu was varied, the prices were more toward the high side. All that said - the food was fantastic, so I had a feeling that there was a good value. Caesar salad, Steak Burger, Signature (Coffee + Brown sugar + Molasses + Cumin) marinated 10 oz filet and 2 beers = $70 without tip. Every bite was delicious. Zero complaints on any part of our meal. Wait Staff... oh boy. All were friendly, most talked in script rather than being real people, and they were mostly non-existent which sometimes is a good thing when you are eating and don't want to be bothered - but no one was 'watching out' for the table and when something was needed: clear dishes, get more water, bring the bill, take the credit card away to process the bill... you WAITED and WAITED to the point where it was somewhat bothersome. One more unfortunate aspect of this was that our main waitress had a 'follower' to learn how to wait tables from supposedly someone who knew what she was doing... so the restaurant is setting up this follower to fail given my experience with the main waitress. And no, the restaurant was not overly crowded or busy such that our waitress was overloaded; she was just NOT a good waitress. Summary: Atmosphere = 5 stars; Food = 5 stars; Appearance = 5 stars;; Menu selections = 5 stars; Pricing = 4 stars Waitstaff = 2 stars. All that said - we'll be back - I'm hoping it was only this particular waitress and there are a few more items I'd like to try on the menu. read more

Awful, rude, doesn't take care of the customer. Ruined what was supposed to be my Wife's birthday dinner. Made a reservation, but said they had no record of it when we walked in. We were told they're sorry because "the day person who took my call was not there at the moment." They offered for us to sit at the bar. Shit hole service, avoid, go to Ruth Chris right down the road or Clawson steakhouse. Will be spreading the word to everyone I know. read more

This is an excellent restaurant. I had the lobster bisque, ribeye, and carrot cake. I would give the bisque an 8/10, the ribeye 9.5/10, and the carrot cake 9.5/10. Our sever was very nice and accommodating as well. The bread that they bring you is also fantastic. It's like a fried donut almost, and comes with cinnamon butter. Truly delicious and I have not had something like this before. The thing that stuck out to me was not only the food quality but also the pricing. The food quality was as good or better than Ocean Prime for less money. This restaurant is not, of course, what most people would consider to be cheap. But I would say that you are getting excellent value for your money. And due to this I will not hesitate to return here. read more

I absolutely love Stoney River Steakhouse. Their delivery is consistent on the quality and taste. I am totally disappointed that they did away with the fried shrimp that is what we ordered all the time. But I love there appetizers especially the steak rolls and their meatloaf is very good very meaty different but tasty. Stoney River was a great experience as a first time patron. I took my boyfriend their first his birthday and our waiter (I think his name was either Cody or Cory, sorry) was amazing. He gave great recommendations that we gladly took into account, my bf ordered the coffee cured filet which was really good and I ordered the featured item of the night which was the crab cake entree. It was honestly one of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Would definitely recommend and come back again. read more

Me and my husband was greeted and was told we had a 45min wait, that turned into an hour and 15min wait. Then when my husband go and ask the young lady what's the hold up, she says the manager said not to seat anyone for another 20min.....so that's an hour and 35min I'm supposed to wait for food....ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! FIRST TIME AND LAST TIME, I WILL NEVER COME BACK NOR DO I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!! I have eaten here probably 5 times. I have gotten the Cowboy Ribeye every time but yesterday. Yesterday I got the NY strip I requested medium rare I got it well done it was horrible even if it was well done it still should have tasted better. Truly even the Cowboy Ribeye isn't as good as Rochester Chop house Ribeyes. I get my steaks at Alidi's and they are better than Stoney River. The place is really nice and the staff is very friendly but if I pay $39 for a steak it better be damn good and unfortunately they fell short yesterday but the previous times I've gotten the Cowboy Ribeye it's been cooked correctly and the taste was good. read more

Came here for a loved-ones birthday before COVID. Ordered a Caesar salad for appetizer and burger (not sure the name but it was the one with guyere cheese) for main course. Both were delicious!!! Love the atmosphere inside nice and dim. Booths were higher than main dining seating which I personally enjoy. To end the night, the birthday gal got a dessert which is chocolate cake (pic below). To be completely honest, this restaurant is very comparable to J. Alexanders. read more

We heard of this restaurant through a friend. So we decided to go for an anniversary dinner for some friends. I made reservations through yelp but for some reasons it did work. The wait wasn't long. It was about 5 minutes. We were sat on a booth for 6 but it became a little crowded. Wished we had a little more room bu beside that , this by far was a really good experience. The food was awesome and the service was excellent. Jan was great!!! Even another hostess went above and beyond to help me out. We truly love the bread and appetizers. The ambiance here is great. Nice place and nice crowd. Great large bar on one side. Reservations were very accommodating. The food was good but if you like chicken they didn't have much except for one option that was to great. The steak however was excellent and every appetizer we tried also tasted great. Service is excellent but waiters need to make sure they are checking on the table after the food is served to make sure everything is right and nothing additional is needed. Other than that, great experience! read more

The ambiance of this restaurant is very nice. I've been here twice now, once at the bar and once at a table and both times the service was fantastic. I ordered the spinach dip and it was good. Not the best I've ever had, but still good, lots of spinach and plenty of chips. The Thai salad is simply delicious. (If you've ever had the Thai Kai salad at J. Alexander's, this salad tastes exactly like that salad). Overall I really like this place. I love the big bar. I can see myself coming here a lot. read more

We got complimentary bread which almost tasted like a yummy warm donut. It Came with a cinnamon flavored butter. We ordered a Cesar salad and that was one of my favorite salads ever. Very creamy and a bit spicy. It was Very good! We ordered every appetizer on the menu! See pictures for my details. My favorite apps were the shrimp and the crab cakes! The crab cakes were delicious. The lobster bisque also came out piping hot and it was so delicious and creamy. My husband order a filet and he seemed quite happy. He also order French fries and the amazing loaded baked potato. What a WONDERFUL dining experience!!!! Started the evening off with the philly steak egg rolls which are ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! I've been coming here for awhile and it used to be a great place that I would recommend to many but some of the current staff hasn't been at the same quality as the past. The last two experiences I've had were not enjoyable with long waits for food and water, little interaction from the servers I had, and food quality dropping making the experience not as worth it. Honestly see better service from a place like chilis than this place, just can't justify the price of this place for how it is now. read more

We had a wonderful first experience at Stoney River for lunch. The decor is contemporary and airy with a mix of booths and tables, and adjacent bar. We sat in a window booth and had a nice view of the space. Our server Morgan couldn't have been more patient, answering many questions about their intriguing menu. Delicious rolls with cinnamon butter convinced Mitch to get the Ahi Tuna Salad rather than a sandwich so he could enjoy the poppy-seeded buns with his entree. The Grilled Cold Water Salmon was done perfectly with fresh spinach and rice, with a sweet chili sauce, considered their Szechuan style. Coffee is served in a French press pot left at the table. The manager Clayton stopped by for a check and was so appreciative to get feedback- even during their busy lunch hour rush. We will definitively be back - and soon! read more

Not a bad place but not anything special considering Troy adds at least 5 new restaurants on the Big Beaver strip (don't be naughty) every year. Got the lobster bisque it came out a bit cold so they took it back and brought it back hot. It was good Ordered the Ahi Tuna salad, it was decent This "slightly less expensive" than Capital Grill or Ruth Chris restaurant profile puts it in direct comparison with J Alexander and the new Seasons 52, Kona Grill, and to a lesser extent Carraba's. Bottom line this place while in a different location is just another Kruse and Muer, which went out of business a couple years ago I tried it out just because it had just opened, probably will only go again if someone else wants to go read more
