a glass of beer and menu

What an awesome gem I happened to be staying right down the street from. I went to Boston to visit family and to get out of Texas for a bit to enjoy some vacation time. It was a last-minute trip and found this little town an hour away from Boston. This place was walking distance right down main street from my airbnb. This place felt pretty welcoming and had a great list of different items on their menu. I was disappointed to find they didn't have their lobster roll anymore, but ended up going with their BLT and fries accompanied with a nice cold beer. Great first night getting settled in. Highly recommended. Great staff and very friendly.

My wife and I really like to eat at the places where the local folks eat. We found Stone's Pub and we were really glad we did! As we were waiting for the pub to open a local fellow told us that they have great burgers...and he was right! I got Eric's Back Bay Burger which comes with a fried egg on top and it was so good! The egg yolk was perfectly oozy! My wife had the fig and prosciutto panini and she loved it. I washed it all down with a couple of Smithwick's Irish Ales. The atmosphere is very relaxed.

Cheese dip

A gem in the middle of downtown. The bar and tables were full and the whole place was bustling. We had to try the cheese dip and we weren't disappointed. A must try! Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We ordered the Ruben and the meatloaf sandwich-both with sweet potato fries. Portions were big and prices were very reasonable. We grabbed dessert to go and that didn't disappoint either. Don't pass up this local spot!

I love this place as I do come every weekend and 1 day during the week .been coming here for yrs ,never a bad meal.the staff is great and atmosphere is nice no loud noise or people yelling in back or extremely loud music ,you actually can have a conversation with people grab a few drinks and chill spot .they do have a back room with is out of they way and nice to hang out. There burgers ,or Cajon grilled chicken with Cajon fries and order of pub sauce is delicious also Sriracha or buffalo mac n cheese is great and my favorite i do a bbq Sriracha wings,or there steak tips that are so good marinated perfectly and cooked with a nice char and wonderful taste and tender with a side of a spinach side salad that goes perfect together. There drinks are delicious by experienced bartenders ,espresso martini ,pickle back shots are great with a nice selection of drinks to choose from. I definitely recommend this place to anyone for a fun night with a few friends to chill out or a date night out where you can chat have a conversation without the crazy background noise

A proper pint of Guinness.

Marginal. First off a proper pint of Guinness always scores points. Our waitress was very good and attentive. She was the only waitress working the whole place. 5 stars for her. Ordered the meatloaf sandwich. Disappointed. The pressed bun could have been prepped better. (Brush with garlic Mayo and then press.) The meatloaf had been neglected on the grill. Like 4th degree burn neglected. Seems the sweet potato fries did not escape extra time in the pit of oil, only to emerge crunchy and hollow. Portobello sandwich was cooked perfectly. Recommended if you like shrooms man. Sweet potato fries on this plate were perfectly done. This place would smash it with a bit more attention to the pub food and some wait staff help. Cheers.

Waited for 15 minutes for a host to take our name and ended up leaving. This was at 2 in the afternoon. Not a staff member to be seen.

Grimy little bar, very Gloucester. It's almost like they are trying, but just hard enough.

We sat at the bar both times and it just wasn't up to par compared to the Choate before new ownership took over. The service was great but... The baked haddock did not have the same delicious crumbs and the portion was too huge to finish and we know seafood doesn't really make for good leftovers. The fried haddock was done a little too much; the coating was too dark and again so much of it! The salads have grown to twice their size but served in the same tiny dish; much of our salad ended up in our laps and on the floor... The broccoli and squash were just okay but again the portions are HUGE! A bit disappointing really...we both would have preferred less, more delicious food of yore rather than the enormous portions of sub-par flavors. A lot of food doesn't necessarily mean delicious... Both visits left us feeling a little sad and nostalgic for the way the Choate used to be.

**Classic local watering hole with solid food and atmosphere**…read more The Chote Pub is definitely a neighborhood spot through and through. You can tell the regulars get priority attention from the bartenders, but we eventually got taken care of too - just be prepared to be patient if it's busy and you're a new face. The food was good with very generous portions that definitely give you your money's worth. Drinks were well-made and hit the spot. We loved the setup for watching football - great views of the games from multiple angles around the bar. **Important heads-up: This is a CASH ONLY establishment.** Make sure you stop at an ATM before you arrive, or you'll be making a quick exit to find one. The vibe here is very much old-school local pub - if that's your scene, you'll love it. If you're looking for something more polished or trendy, this might not be your spot. We enjoyed the unpretentious atmosphere and will likely be back, but it's definitely worth knowing what you're walking into first. Bottom line: Come for honest pub fare, generous portions, cold drinks, and a genuine local experience. Just bring cash!

We visited on Friday night and sat at a table as the bar seating was pretty packed. Crowd was pretty chill - a mixture of people in their 20's having drinks & apps, and then older couples/families enjoying dinner. We were happy to see Smithwicks on the draft menu, and we also got a Downeast cider with a caramel/cinnamon rim. We ordered the house made mozzarella sticks, which were ginormous, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and all around delicious. We all opted with different types of burgers - sliders, fried chicken, and a pub burger. All were served with fries and were perfectly cooked. The coating on my fried chicken was crispy and flavorful. Service was awesome - our glasses were never left empty! Best of all, Dwyers has a free jukebox packed with favorites. Looking forward to coming back on our next visit to Portsmouth - we'll definitely be trying the deviled eggs, wings, and fried oreos!

After spending aprox $250 on drinks we were asked to leave our table before we were done because there were other people waiting for tables. I understand that it's a busy St. Paddy's weekend and they need to turn tables over and make $ but it was quite jarring and rude AND we were getting ready to order food. I enjoy this place but i won't be returning. If you want average food and drinks, which is forgivable because of the fun music, and would like to be treated like crap on a Saturday afternoon, Dwyers is the place for you.
