My wife and I were looking for a place to get a bite and beer after a full day out, and came across Stones on-line. The reviews were very good and it was close to where we were staying, so Stones it was. The place was nice and laid back, and with seem like mostly locals at the bar and tables. With local craft beers on tap we started there. Ipswich Pale Ale hit the spot. We weren't in the mood for a full dinner, so we each went with sandwich (the Meatloaf for me and Ruben for my wife) and the Mac n Cheese w/bacon as a starter. Both were very good, with the apple sauerkraut on the Ruben being a nice addition. But the star was the Mac n Cheese w/bacon. I'm sure if we were to spend more time in Gloucester we'd have the opportunity to check out more of the menu, but from the little we did try, I'm confident the other offerings wouldn't disappoint. read more

Food, service, and drinks were good, cook however in the back was pretty dirty, not very sanitary, kept grabbing food with her hands and immediately wiping her hand on her butt, her red fishnet clothing, no apron, didn't wash hands regularly or anything to mediate that, then would touch everyones food as she was building the burgers etc. Just very bothersome.... read more

Stayed in Rockport to be close to Salem for Halloween with my wife & daughter. Checking out today, my daughter got ill, with fever, coughing and nausea. After a brief barfing session, she was hungry, so i picked the Stone Pub to eat at. So glad i did. My daughter had a delicious mac n chz, i had a great Reuben, and my wife the chili dog. All really was very good, but the service put the place over the top. Such a sweetheart working the bar and tables at the same time, she made us feel so welcome while the weather was so miserable outside and our daughter barfed yet again into a bag right at the table. Very positive experience here. Very cozy atmosphere, and they have little puzzles and games, too, so you never need to leave! read more

This is a great place. Homey and warm. Very friendly. There's a lot of TV's to watch any game that's on. A special booth in the back for a private group, private tv included. They have a somewhat limited temporary menu, but are creating some really yummy additions daily. Everything that I have tried is fantastic! Mac and cheese, sausage stew, pulled pork and macaroons. All were delicious. The bartenders are friendly and pour a good drink. They have a range of beers, liquors and spirits. They are very knowledgable about making drinks. I recommend this to anyone looking for a less pretentious but nice place to go for food and a drink, or just to hang out. read more

Quaint little pub. Decent food, good mix of townies and travelers like ourselves. Enjoyed our sandwiches. Sweet potato fries and home made coleslaw were really good. Avoid the mousse deserts though. They make them in house which is awesome, but they freeze them for some reason which ruins the consistency of the mousse and makes it very awkward. Definitely worth checking out if you're near by. read more

Just .... No. I don't know how this place got such a good rating but if you have any tastebuds at all, skip it. The "meatloaf" sandwich (got without bread) was basically just a long weird grilled burger with no flavor at all. The "gravy" that came with it was tasteless. The fries were overdone. The panini was a literal pale imitation of what a panini should be. And the coup de grace was that they insisted that the cheese dip came with house-made CORN tortilla chips. But I walked out of there and was instantly ill. Bloated. Headache. Stomach pain. And they did not taste or look like corn. But we were assured yes yes yes, they're corn. Not a chance. So do yourself a favor, skip it. Go literally anywhere else. The one star of this review was being able to sit near the nice open window. Run away. read more

We started with the pulled pork nachos. The pulled pork was very tasty. I think the pulled pork sand which work be delicious. The burgers were mediocre. I order a special that was supposed to have sriacha sauce and didn't, at least I didn't see any. I asked about it and was told it was the special but I honestly could taste any spice or heat. The bacon tasted and looked like the crap you get on a Wendy's junior bacon. Like microwaved stuff! My husband got another burger, one that had a fried egg on top. I'm not sure if this is just a city thing but when you see that your burger comes with an egg, you expect yolk porn... slightly let down. The drinks were good. The ambience is great, very laid back and chill. The service is the saving grace, all the staff is accommodating and very friendly. read more

I dropped by Stone's a few days ago on my way home from the beach and it was definitely worth it. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was only $9.50 for a huge sandwich with a good amount of fries so that was awesome! I had no complaints and by the end of the meal I was so stuffed that I had to loosen my buttons. It's small and personal which I like a lot, not very busy but I did visit on a Wednesday night. read more

Very disappointed. We expected the food to be a lot better because of the high rating on this place. My wife's steak tips were insipid and rare (she asked for medium) - she could not eat it. I had asked for a chipotle chicken with avocado sandwich. The sandwich I got had no chipotle whatsoever. When we complained, our server, who was clearly very new, was very apologetic and confused, but charged us all the same. read more

Excellent find just off the main part of Main Street in downtown Gloucester. The menu is mostly straightforward pub food, and the quality is top notch. We had the portobello mushroom sandwich and a honey mustard chicken-bacon-cheddar sandwich, and both were delicious, not to mention yummy fresh hot french fries. Staff was super friendly. Good wine and beer options, too, and the prices are hard to beat - $4.50 for a pint of good craft beer! We'll definitely be back. read more

Stone's was the first place I ate when I moved into town, and after eating here at least once a week since then, I can honestly say it's consistently awesome. I've ordered something different to eat each time, and whether it's off the regular menu or one of their specials, I always am pleasantly surprised. You know how you can bring a friend to your favorite hangout, and say "I've had everything on the menu and the only thing I don't like is (fill in the blank)"? This isn't possible at Stone's, because everything is just so tasty and good. The beer selection is pretty good, with everything from PBR to a local craft brew on tap, and a whole range of bottled beer. But really, what makes this place over the top awesome is the staff. From the owner to the dishwasher, everyone is open and friendly - even welcoming, to the new girl in town. read more

A friendly staff with a pub featuring a warm atmosphere, but seating is a little limited. But let's get to the whole point of this website which is about the food. The food was good pub food but that's about it. The 5 cheese mac-n-bacon was pretty tasty and the reuben was ok. The meat was dry, probably overcooked. The fries were the usual straight out of the freezer variety. My wife's hummus was flavorful but the buffalo wings she ordered were cooked too long. Dry and no flavor to them despite the sauce. A decent pub serving average food. They should secret shop Atwood's Tavern in Cambridge for food. read more

So the story goes like this... I went to Rockport, Ma. to visit my good friend who owns the 9 lives cafe... Since her cafe was closed we went out for lunch in Gloucester ... I had my heart set on getting a roast beef sandwich at a diner we used to frequent when I used to live in Beverly, Ma. ... My friend asked me if I'd mind changing it up by going to a different spot.. She assured me their food was really good.... So I said "sure, why not".... I'm so glad I did..... I have to say... I had the tastiest, freshest and juiciest grilled chicken sandwich of my life!!! I'm 46 years old and have had my share of grilled chicken sandwiches .. But none compare to this one!!! It was called a "Double Chicken Grilled Sandwich" it came with a very fresh bun, lettuce, mayo, bacon, cheese and a fried egg!!!! It was on the special of the day menu so I'm Not sure how often they make this... It was out of this world delicious!! The waitress was very pleasant, it's a comfy environment and the music was good and not to loud. My friend enjoyed her meal as well!! We also shared a slice of apple cake which was very fresh and delicious. I would totally go back there and highly suggest this establishment to anyone if you want really good food and service!!! 5 stars across the board for the " Stones Pub" in Gloucester, Ma. !!!! Since moving back to Gloucester after a 40-year absence my wife and I have enjoyed the many excellent restaurants here and love finding new favorites. Stones is one. We've been to Stones three times and each visit has been just great. It is a nice, clean, casual spot; more a pub than a restaurant but the food has been consistently excellent. And the martinis? Well, make sure you keep it to one or make transport arrangements. Menu is comfort and several daily specials. I have had the "Stones tips with dirty rice" and today the Shepherd's Pie. Both great. The tips I had some to bring home, the shepherds I should have, but ate it all. Whoops. The first time there we both had the burger special with sweet potato fries (no extra charge) and declared this the best burger on the island. Ok, yelp is hinting that I should wrap it up, but I feel bad that I have not covered all the main points. Too much to say, nothing other than super. There are three other favorites in Gloucester and I need to mention those too. Soon. read more

Stopped in here with friends after seeing the high percentage of good ( and recent) reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed. Given that it is not on the "busy" end of Main St., you might almost miss it. But it's worth the stop, and we now have been back a few times since to grab takeout on the way to the beach for dinner. Check out the grilled chicken club, and definitely the pulled pork. Good beer and cocktail selection as well. You won't find a multi-page menu here, but what they have they do well and importantly, the staff have been very friendly every time. We shall return.... :) read more

Business must be booming. Although when we went in tonight didn't look that way.. only two tables full, but a mostly full bar. Take a sear. Five minutes goes by. Then ten, then twenty. Four people working the bar. Not even acknowledged, despite sitting front and center at a window seat. Two servers definitely saw us serving another nearby table. Liike eye contact saw us.. Group of six comes in, heads for the side room....in goes one of the servers. We walk. Some customer service advice....when someone comes into your establishment and sits down it means they willingly want to give you their money. You may want to at least acknowledge their presence after a reasonable period of time. We'll be sticking with our other regular places that seem to have grasped this concept. read more

Full of comfort food such as burgers, Mac N Cheese, etc. We had the Mac N Cheese, a burger and the Warren's request, which was essentially a spicy panini with different types of meat. Margarita was a bit average, came served in a pint glass and was really tart. Shout out to the couple with 2 toddlers who came in expecting a kid friendly menu.
