Had dinner on Halloween night here, it was a great experience. Their plates are meant for sharing, so come with a few friends to really enjoy the experience. Started off with the Burrata, which was good, slightly too salty. Then we proceeded to share plates of the roasted brussel sprouts, artichoke gratin, and bavette steak with plums, all very delicious. However, the standout dish was the potato gnocchi with braised mushrooms; please get this when you go. The Caparzo Sangiovese was a good value for $7, though I'd try some other reds next time. Love the ambiance here. We were in the middle part of the restaurant, near the open-concept kitchen. There's curved wood paneling lining the ceiling with metal brackets that make you feel you're in a wine barrel; very clever. Good service. read more

I'm so happy we found this spot for lunch right past the farmers market. This is the best pizza I have ever had. Seriously, you would think they would have a good pizza somewhere in L.A., but nothing even comes close to this place. We split a margherita and a mortadella and olive pizza. The crust was thin, but had enough density that it didn't droop and sadly dump the toppings onto the plate (I hate that). It was crunchy on the bottom and soft on the top, and not dry at all. The sauce had a little kick to it, but the chili pepper that they brought to the table really made it perfect. The decor is a mix of antique and modern with an eclectic twist, and the curved bar is super cool. I definitely had a thing for the light fixtures, but I'm weird like that. I loved that the front of the restaurant is exposed, there was a perfect and gentle breeze at our booth. If only I could bring this gem back with me to California! If you're going to hit this place up during a busy time, be smart and get a reservation. If not, you'll get quite the wait. This is quite the cool place for food and drinks. I like that they have small plates and light apps that go so well with their unique drink menu. It seems like their drinks rotate so it's worth coming here periodically to check out what's changed. Man oh man, this is just a cool place to be, eating here is just a bonus. Their outside windows open up in the warm months for a fantabulous open-air dining experience. We came for brunch, sat outside, ordered a bloody -- it had all the trappings of a beautiful Sunday brunch. ....Until it became obvious we were in for mediocrity. My bloody mary was not mixed well, so I took one sip and got a huge mouthful of pepper. That aside, it was clearly just tomato juice no special mix. To be fair, they took it off the bill. We ordered the ricotta muffin with the egg baked in - it was cold, the egg inside was hard boiled. I was expecting a warm, oozy, cheezy eggy muffin. This was not it. The breakfast pizza (pizza! their specialty!) was underwhelming. The dough was thicker than expected and was neither crispy nor chewy. Better pizza to be had many other places around Seattle. The cauliflower was the bright spot - loved the golden raisins and pine nuts, a little sweet, a little hint crunch. I would come back for a (standard) drink or beer, the ambiance, tiling, wood is quite unique, the bar is shaped all kinds of crazy. Might be fun place for out of towners. read more

Go for dinner, be prepared to linger, be prepared to spend money (especially if you're drinking alcohol), and be prepared to have an excellent meal. The location is beautiful and much of the woodwork and decorative wine racks are vintage; it's worth asking your server about to hear some of the stories. Although they don't serve bread, our server (who was very attentive) graciously brought us some ciabatta for our busy one-year-old who needed to be distracted until more food came to the table. One of us had a pork chop made from a pig raised on hazelnuts in Oregon. It was a very thick cut and must have taken a long time to cook. It was fantastic. Two of us had steak (perfectly cooked, and perfect sized cut) over polenta with trumpet mushrooms. Absolutely incredible. One of us had meatballs. They were substantial and well made, but paled in comparison to the other meat entrees. The sriracha-roasted Brussels sprouts disappeared into the mouths of people muffling their sighs of delight. They were damn good. And whatever that dessert was that I got...it was essentially a baked apple delight with cardamom ice cream. Oh. My. God. Do it. read more

This is a perfect place if your date or significant other is trying to eat healthy, while you are trying to cultivate mass. It is extremely difficult to find establishments that have options for someone like myself who is a traditional meat-and-potatoes guy and for people who are vegetarians and pescatarians. Blessed be the salad makers at the Stoneburner, because both of us left happy and satisfied with our experience. We had a great waitress (who deserves a raise) that provided excellent recommendations based on her in-depth knowledge of the menu. For an appetizer, the crispy, mozzarella filled olives were a perfect segue to our evening. She also suggested a tasty rock fish appetizer for my pescatarian. For my main, I was torn between the pizza and bucatini pasta, but decided to select the porchetta pizza and compare it to Pomo Pizzeria in Phoenix. Since the rock fish appetizer was an abnormally large serving, the pescatarian decided to get the cucumber & quinoa salad. In addition, our waitress kindly treated us to a very fresh heirloom tomato plate on the house. This was a pleasant surprise and very nice gesture. While we were not particularly blown away by the main courses, the service really impressed us to the point where will give a second visit serious consideration. If you have never been to Stoneburner, I highly recommend you stop by for a nice, relaxing dinner. read more

I come here A LOT! At least once a week it feels like. I live in Ballard and it's definitely my go to place. I love it and is one of my favorite options compared to most of the options in Ballard. That said I've had AMZING experiences and lackluster experiences. So, consistency is where they need to work, in my opinion. I've had the pepperoni pizza multiple times. Sometimes it's life changing....e.g. chewy crust, perfect quantity of delicious mozzarella, beautiful pepperoni. And sometimes it's under cheesed and over-cooked. I've had the brunch and love it, but wonder if it's slightly overpriced. Great quality but very small portion sizes. I've had mediocre experiences with their wine list. Most of the time, I just order a cocktail because after a few tastes, it's just not worth it to order wine. I have an old world palate though and if you like American wines, you'll probably love their selection. I LOVE their buratta and have had it multiple times. So gooey and wonderful. Finally I took my mom to have it (she'd never had burrata) and it just seemed different. The burrata was really firm and not gooey. So, I felt like it didn't live up to the hype. Anyway, you get the point. I have had SOOOOO many amazing experiences here. I love the setting and the staff to the max. Most of the time the food and drinks are TO DIE FOR....and it is STILL my favorite place in Ballard. But man, I hate going here and feeling like I'm not getting that. Made reservations to this place...when we got there the table wasn't ready as the previous customers were still seated. Of coarse this gets frustrating. Well we are human and can't control every situation. So management did what they could do to best accommodate us. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with the way they handled the situation. We went to Stoneburner on a Sunday for brunch. While we heard great things before we went, the food and ambiance far surpassed our expectations! We had a lot of trouble ordering because everything on the menu looked so delicious. We ended up choosing the meatballs (with polenta, kale, and a sunny side up egg), the grass fed beef crudo, and the ricotta muffin (with a soft baked egg inside - fancy!). Before our food came out, we were served a dish of oven roasted brussels sprouts compliments of the chef (we were the only people sitting at the bar by the kitchen). Everything was completely fantastic! My boyfriend and I agreed that the meatballs were our favorite, and I'm pretty sure we'd order them again if we went back and they were on the menu. Yes it's good, but they are a little too impressed with themselves. The host decided we were not beautiful enough (or was it that our $ wasn't green enough?) so they put us at the rear near the loo when the place wasn't even 1/2 full. We told them no way we were sitting there, so they moved us to by the front door. We ordered our pizza (no subs on a 1/2 full restaurant) and all was fine. But pizza at Stoneburner's prices with so few people. they could have been a bit more laid back. They put that ridiculous reservation card on our table after we sat down. The place never got crowded. No need for the attitude. It gets in the way of a good time. read more

This place is so freakin goodl. Literally everything I tried was absolutely killer. Had the fried olives stuffed with cheese, the soppressata pizza, nettle bucatini, and ricotta cavatelli. Everything had a perfect level of spice and left my mouth a perfect amount on fire. Good wine selection. So here's the deal - I first ate at Stoneburner right after it opened and it was awesome. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and quick, and the atmosphere was lovely. Then I went back after a few months and was incredibly disappointed. All portions seemed to be at least a third the size of what they previously were, and the food was a lot more bland. I'm not one who generally eats huge portions, and I often appreciate a smaller plate, but this was absurd. My boyfriend ordered the steak (which he had also ordered the first time we went and it was normal sized) and it was three bite sized pieces of meat. Not exaggerating. I got a ravioli dish that was (again, not exaggerating) four bite sized pieces of ravioli. We were both stunned when the waitress brought them to our table, and I was hoping for a moment this was a mis-delivered appetizer for another table. No such luck. This was our dinner. Our expensive dinner. Needless to say, we won't be going back. The atmosphere and service is still great, but if you're looking for an actual dinner and not an overpriced appetizer, go somewhere else. read more

I came in with my dad on the Friday before Christmas as a pseudo-holiday celebration since I would be out of town the following week. Going out can be tricky for us because he doesn't move or handle stairs very well and can be easily overwhelmed - not to mention just a tad bit impatient and demanding. Not always super fun for me. Even though I had lucked out with a last-minute Open Table reservation, I half expected the hostess to deny us upon arrival. Instead, and I may be projecting here, I feel like she quickly read the situation and promptly seated us at a better table (namely more accessible for my dad) than originally planned. When I told her she could send us on our way with menus given that we were moving verrrry slowly, she said she welcomed the break in her hectic night and was happy to seat us. A human! Thank you! Although service was a little slow and spotty, our server was informed, patient, and friendly. We sat in the window next to the bar so I also observed the bartender and charcuterie prep guy, both taking their jobs and customer service seriously in the best of ways. When it was time to leave, we had to navigate a few stairs down to the front door. Out of nowhere (it seemed), a strapping young man appeared with an arm extended to help my dad down the stairs while the hostess held the door. I nearly cried. Oh yeah, and the food was awesome. My dad is pretty traditional when it comes to dining and I am anything but, so it's the rare place that can truly please us both. I had been to Stoneburner once before with my husband and friends but it was this experience that nudged it to the top of my "return" list. Went to Stoneburner for dinner with almost no prior knowledge of what to expect. I was becoming a little desperate to reserve a place for V-Day and the good reviews made me pull the trigger. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The ambiance is hip, but not trying too hard. It walks the line between not feeling too fancy looking, but still being a place you could dress up for. I like the dim lighting and the bar looks great. Cocktails were phenomenal and the bartenders looked like real pros, who took their craft seriously. Wine list is also extensive. As soon as our first few dishes started coming in, we knew we were in for a good night. The watermelon beet salad was one of the most interesting dishes I have tried in a while. Great flavors, textures and taste. The lamb carbonara was a touch on the salty side, but still delicious (also love the presentation with the raw egg on top). This place really knows how to make veggies shine, as the roasted artichoke was full of flavor. By the time our pizza came in, we were starting to struggle to keep it all in, but couldn't refuse it given how good it was. On the constructive side, some of our dishes could have been better staggered throughout our meal, as they would have been warmer when we were ready to get to them. Our waiter was friendly and very helpful, but perhaps a little too casual. All things considered, great place for a date night. read more

Stoneburner does a great breakfast. I had the French toast with sausages and got to try my friend's fried egg sandwich. Both were delicious. The service is so good. I always enjoy American service but this was more sincere than most. The ambience in this beautiful building makes the experience excellent. The coffee is decent but not great. The cocktails are made from freshly squeezed juice and top shelf spirits. Try one! I highly recommend this restaurant for brunch or lunch. Stoneburner is the new hot spot in the sea of new restaurant storefronts that is Ballard. Chic decor, modern expensive lighting features, open kitchen, cool expansive bar area. This is the place that hip young professionals want to love. But I'm not sure its quite lived up to the hype. Started off with the bread and ricotta which I must say was quite tasty and a zucchini salad. Had a pasta with meat sauce for the main course that left me a little underwhelmed. The portion was small and there just wasn't enough flavor. Finished the dinner off with a berry/custard dessert that looked amazing but was a little too sweet for my taste. The drink menu was inspired and creative and I had a difficult time choosing what to go with. All in all I must say the place left me a little underwhelmed. The food was good but for the price point there are a number of restaurants right on Ballard ave I would rather go to. There's been a lot of hype surrounding this place and as obvious by all the 5 star reviews of the place, people seem to be ready to jump on the bandwagon simply because it's the "cool" spot right now. I spied a couple tables that got some of the pizza and it did look good - tasty pizza is hard to come by in Seattle. I'll probably give this place another shot and update once I do. read more

Well I said I wouldn't go back but I did. Not the greatest decision. Again, the service was good but the food was sub par. We has the brussel sprout Caesar and the radicchio squash salads. Both were ok. We also had the octopus and the polenta, not impressed by either. The highlight was our charcuterie plate which id get again. This has become one of our favorite places to eat. I've taken my family including 2 young children to here about 4-5 times and each time the food and service has been exceptional! We've visited on weekdays and weekends and have always been seated immediately. The small plates of vegetables are absolutely delicious...the roasted brussel sprouts are amazing. The menu has been different each time we've visited so it's well worth coming back to see what they have on offer. The pizza is some of the best I've ever had. The tomato sauce is light and sweet and the crust has the perfect thinness and chewiness. We've also tried a few of the pasta dishes including a clam bucatini and the little queens...all delicious. So nice to find a trendy place that caters to kids and has friendly and helpful staff. read more

Given that it was a Friday evening I was impressed with how they balanced being attentive, yet at the same time not being intrusive. Food is creative new style Italian cooking. We had the crispy olives as an appetizer, and a combination cheese selection and prosciutto. the olives were awesome! and I wished i had ordered more. My first time here but not my last. Came here for a late lunch with a girl friend and had a great time. Good company aside, the food was fresh, delicious and the wait staff were friendly and efficient. Got a beautiful window seat so we could people watch and enjoy the sun. Our waiter (who was also a bartender) suggested the ginger beer, (I don't drink alcohol) and it tasted delightful. We ordered the Kale vegetable dish (raw, perfectly seasoned dressing and great bread crumbs on top), Sugar Snap Peas (thinly sliced, shaved pecorino & almonds) and the Calabrian Sausage Pizza (olives & chard). Plus side - not even knowing what was on the happy hour menu or that happy hour was in a few minutes, our waiter told us that he would wait to put in two of our options so we could get HH price! I've been meaning to try Stoneburner since I moved to Seattle but it took me until now to do it. I wish I'd visited sooner! I also wish I could give it six stars! First of all, as mentioned by other Yelpers, the customer service is fantastic. Our servers were extremely attentive, courteous and helpful without being overbearing. This is quite a difficult task to execute and I can't say I've ever seen it look quite so effortless. Second of all, the ambiance and decor is fantastic. It feel inviting and sophisticated without feeling the least bit pretentious. Last but not least, the food and drink were excellent. We ordered the gem lettuce salad, shaved brussels sprouts caesar and calabrese salami pizza off the happy hour menu. Yum yum and yum! The house red was also a nice addition. I can't wait to return to try the cocktails and pasta dishes. read more

Soppressata pizza was good but not great. Crust was a bit overdone for my taste but the toppings were excellent. Charcuterie was definitely the highlight of the meal. The decor kind of reminds me of the inside of a large wooden boot, which was fun. I plan to come back again soon and explore more of the menu. read more

I'm sad to say that this was a 3-star experience for me. Perhaps a 2-star for the food but the ambiance and exceptional customer service bumps it up a star. I was there last night with a friend. We ordered the brussels sprouts to start, then I ordered the catch of the day (black cod with purple potatoes) and my friend ordered the cauliflower ravioli. Believe it or not, the sprouts were the highlight of the night! Then came our main dishes. My cod was rather burnt on the outside - so much so that my waitress thought they had brought out the steak for me by accident! She was apologetic and kind enough to offer me another plate but I was nearly done by that point anyway so I declined. Later, another person came by to ask how the food is (perhaps the manager?) - not wanting to complain, I told her it was 'fine', just a bit burnt for my liking. She was, again, apologetic and told me she would take it off the bill which was an unexpected but kind gesture. My friend's ravioli was good, but was lacking something - a spice? Anyway, we move on to dessert and she ordered a chocolate desert with graham crackers on the side. Can't go wrong, right? Wrong! Again, it was missing something, making the chocolate taste a bit off somehow. So, all in all, it was somewhat disappointing, especially given its rave reviews and popularity. read more

Since moving to Ballard a month ago, I've been here twice. Sat at the bar both times and enjoyed the ambiance. Food-wise, the pizzas are spot on. That big gas oven really knows what its doing. The first time the sous chef's gave us some carrots on the house and they were excellent. The pasta I was less impressed with, but all the bread items are A+. Keep wanting to try the brussel sprouts, but the friends I come with have been anti-veggie. Obviously I need new friends. read more

I'm giving this a five-star rating for the bar and the cocktails. We will have to come back again to eat. We stopped by mid-afternoon for a drink. There is a large bar with plenty of seating, plus tables and booths along the perimeter of the room. It's large but intimate at the same time. Sometimes bars can be a little off putting, but this has a very comfortable atmosphere. Super friendly and helpful servers. But, the main attraction is that they know how to make an excellent cocktail. And there's a bit of a show to making the drinks. read more

Stopped by here for dinner late on a busy Saturday night in Ballard. This was one of the spots that had a dog friendly area (provided water for my puppy). We waited approximately 20 minutes for an outdoor table at 9pm. I had a red wine, it was fine - nothing notable. We had two pizzas. One fennel sausage pizza which was above par. One Yukon Potato & Morel Mushroom pizza which was better. It was a very enjoyable evening outside. We were there for a date night and had a great time! When the waitress asked if we wanted desert I asked if they had anything chocolate, particularly molten chocolate. I appreciate that she told me no and suggested another place in town. I would definitely go back for a special occasion or a nice evening. Less causal of a restaurant, at least in the evening on a Saturday. Superior location as well. read more
