So ....... First time here and I wasn't sure what to eat. I am a vegetarian and the menu was pretty limited. I'm used to that though. I ended up opting for the Asian Nachos (no chicken). They we're kind enough to add veggie beans. Woot! The nachos were freaking HUGE!! And they were really really really great. Three stars? You might say. Yup. We waited a million years (closer to 30 minutes) for our check after one of the people in our party flagged our waiter down and paid. No drink refills... No checks... We almost just got up and left after we waited 20 min. (Did our friend pay for all of ours?!?!)Then it took 10 more min of looking and even whistling and waving our arms in the air for our waiter to contact us. Dude didn't get a great tip from the ladies that night. He could have offered more drinks. People at that table would have opted in! Anyway... Get the nachos. Share them. I wanted a quick bit in old town Omaha before heading to the airport. I was lucky enough to make it for happy hour and had the pulled port sandwich. Sandwich was average. The pork was less than "pulled" and had large chucks with lots of caramelized onions doused with sauce served on a stale french baguette. On the plus side, everyone at the restaurant is very friendly and the sandwich is only $4.95 for happy hour.....check out the photo of the sandwich, which is more visually appealing than to the palette. Went for a work dinner in the back party room. Plenty of space for around 50 of us. They had buffet style foods, starting apps: warm tortilla chips with red & green salsa-both seemed spicy to me. A small bar was set up with a few choice beers & house margaritas. We like their specialty margarita's that are worth trying if you go! Next was our choice of beef, chicken, or mushroom enchiladas. Most of our group raved about the chicken covered in white cheese sauce, but I'm giving the mushroom enchilada with brown sauce my #1 vote-they may have made this special as a vegetarian choice. Otherwise, it's made with brisket, which sounds just as good! Our sides of salad, steamed veggies, Spanish rice & beans went well with our meal! I love coming to stokes! They have the best happy hour. Great margaritas and numerous food options on it as well! Don't forget to get the Sharon's! It will be a very big meal but the leftovers are definitely worth it. Tuesdays are my favorite because we get to hangout with the bartender Kristina and we get half off wine. Was recently at this store with my family. The 3 star is a balance between 2 and 4. I think that all of us agreed that the food was very good, but the service was not very good. We were a group of 6 and were promptly seated. Our server stopped by and asked for drinks, since we had just sat down we opted for water to start. Although one of the kids asked for a "Roy Rodger" which seemed to baffle the server so we explained how to make it. After bit of time server came back and we ordered drinks, we were seated next to the bar. It would have been quicker to turn around and order the drinks (Roy Rodgers didn't arrive until the meal showed up). Finally, someone showed up with our two beers and one mixed drink. Food finally showed up and about halfway through the meal we ordered two more beers. Those beers showed up as we paid the bill. Went for a work lunch and would recommend this place! I had the chips, salsa and guacamole. I think the guacamole was good but had different flavor from any other Mexican restaurant. Had the chicken enchiladas and loved the mix of spice, cheese and a green sauce. Beans were interesting with a bbq flavor to them. It wasn't overbearing but a slight hint. Liked the Mexican rice. I am really impressed with their kindness and taking care of it so quickly. Previous review: Let me start by saying we do love stokes. We've been several times in person to the downtown location. Tonight, I was craving enchiladas but with three kids, and an impending snow storm, we decided to order online for delivery via doordash. I ordered Sharon's enchiladas with chicken on the side and the queso without the pork topping. Both have been previously accommodated without an issue. Our order took 35 minutes longer than estimated, and then arrived with chicken in the enchiladas, pork on top of the queso, and a total of 16 chips for a large serving of dip. This is so disappointing. If a restaurant is going to offer delivery via doordash or Uber Eats, they need to pay special attention to accommodations and requests, because they aren't easily fixed like they can be in restaurant. I ended up having a bowl of cereal and throwing out my entire meal. Super disappointing experience tonight. read more

We had the Stokes Queso to start. The Queso was amazing but it would have been better if the chips weren't stale and chewy. Hubby and I ended up switching our meals as I originally ordered the Steak & Mushroom Enchilada but the chile sauce tasted more of a BBQ sauce and hubby ordered the Chicken Enchiladas, which was ok. We love Creme Brulee, but a good creme brulee is served in a shallow dish. This was a cup of custard with a thin, crispy crust. It was ok but I like to be able to have that delicious crust with every bite of custard. I didn't complain to the server because she was nice and we weren't looking for freebies, however, it might have been a nice gesture to offer something for his birthday, but that's ok. Just a suggestion. Maybe someday, I'll give it another try, but for now, I'm not a fan. Different strokes for different folks. Don't NOT try Stokes based off of my review. Update from the review I left over a year ago that was not good. The manager contacted me and sent me an apology for our bad experience and a $40 gift card. We finally used it tonight and I am happy to report Stoke's has redeemed themselves. Our waiter was great (yeah, Anthony!!! Day 2 of working there!!!). The food came out hot and fresh--which was one of my original complaints. The portions were very generous and we easily have lunch for tomorrow. The only cautions I would state are that my prior poor experience was on Mother's Day when things were very busy and tonight--a weekday night--there were many open tables and that it is a tad spendy. I set up a lunch for eight ladies and we had an amazing experience. Our server, Shay, was extremely efficient, courteous, and friendly. We had some requests such as separate tickets, gluten-free options, & modifying our table set up to make it easier to talk and she handled everything with ease. Most of us had salads, one had a wrap. Everything was prepared exactly as ordered, dressing on the side, items omitted for dietary preferences, etc. The kitchen did a super job because it all came out on time, hot, accurate and tasty. I've been to Stokes several times over the years and to both locations in Omaha, usually not by my own choosing. That being said the food has been hit and miss for me but overall pretty decent. I had the trout most recently and really enjoyed it as well as the roasted fingerling potatoes. The brussel sprouts had a lot to desire as they were hardly cooked. The guac for an appetizer was quite tasty as was the salsa choices. My biggest complaint here is the absurd amount of cheese on the majority of their dishes. Our server Michelle is probably one of the best servers In Omaha. That being said, it takes a team to make it all come together the way today's lunch did. Perfect timing from beginning to the end. We NEVER had to ask for a refill (We each had 3). We didn't have to beg for the check. This is something that is overlooked by many restaurants. Stokes has stepped in a big way,in my opinion. The reason I say that is, I watched everyone and from the Hostess to the Manager everyone made sure every customer was taken care of from the time we came in until the time we left. I have always loved Stokes. My friends and I always used to come after golf. Then we started playing early and ended up having breakfast after golf at a breakfast cafe. But after golf season we come back to Stokes. We absolutely love the Sharon's Enchiladas. But today Stokes was especially wonderful for me. I am in charge of a monthly ladies luncheon of about 25 people. I booked the November luncheon at Biaggi's which is next door. When we got there they did not have our reservation. I had even called to confirm 3 days before. One of our party ran next door to Stokes and they said to come on over. We had a wonderful lunch and our waitress, Anna, took care of all of us in a calm and organized manner. The chef even came out to say hello. Our monthly group will definitely be back. This was my first experience at Stokes. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. There was so. Much. Cheese. If you aren't prepared to eat a laxative or a pound of highly fibrous vegetables, you may want to skip that option. I couldn't taste much but the cheese. They weren't terrible, but there wasn't much flavor except for the cheese. Our waiter was very inattentive. He didn't refill drinks and he wouldn't bring us our check. One of our party (5 people) asked for her check so she could leave ( and it was apparent that everyone was finished with their meal), so he brought her bill but no one else's. Disappointed. Ordered the mussels and 4 of them were not open (? fully cooked??). I had to try to wrestle them open and in the process splashed my red sauce on my shirt. One I had to put in my napkin and whack it with my fork to get it open. It was lukewarm inside so I didn't eat it. My husband substituted fries for rice in his order. The fries were awful! They looked dehydrated and were chewy and dry. I can't believe they even served them based on how they looked. Waitress didn't seem to notice we didn't touch the full plate of fries. I got a bite of carnitas with gristle in it. Yuck. Spit it out. Enchiladas were good. Mussels that were cooked were good. Wine is incredibly overpriced. Waitress was attentive other than not noticing my struggle with the mussels and that she served us really old, crappy fries. I'm not likely to return here any time soon. Second time in a row we have been in after 9 for happy hour and the staff was rude. This time, she passed by and put menus on the bar never taking a drink order. Then came back and asked us what we wanted and we had to back her up and ask for drinks. She messed up the margarita and never offered to remake it, just handed my husband a napkin to wipe the salt off himself. Then we got the bill and were charged full price for the nachos and not happy hour, charged for the undrinkable margarita and then went back to vacuuming and mopping. Initially when I ordered happy hour nachos, I quietly had the waitress replace the dirty dish. Then they show a Creme Brule on the desert menu that looks like a good Creme Brule toasted perfect with berries, instead they deliver a cup with a cremated topping. I requested it be removed. I ordered a chocolate martini in its place by time it came everyone was ready to go. However they charged full price for happy hour margaritas even though I asked for that to be fixed and then I noticed I was charged full price for the nachos that was ordered off the happy hour menu.
