The service is always excellent and the food is wonderful! I started with cram corn soup which hit the spot on a chilly evening. Then I had my favorite, homemade pasta with bouillabaisse sauce! Then finished with the. Chocolate Budino and paired it with the Rusty Cup, a fantastic drink made with Johnnie Walker Black Label, Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey and Drambuie. Came here for dinner at 5 on a Tuesday night and was seated right away. The space is beautiful and upscale but still relaxing, comforting, and welcoming to children and families. The food was wonderful. Got the tagliatelle with a side of squash and corn and potatoes off the kids meal, which was a hit with the kids and the adults. Perfect spot for happy hour! Had a blast with my date ordering cocktails, appetizers, and mains -- all were great for sharing and all the staff were really friendly too. Even the complimentary chips were delicious! Duck liver mousse and pasta hit the spot; the four cheese pizza was a bit too funky for me but I really enjoyed the crust. I think the pizza could've also benefitted from a fresh element, especially since one of the cheeses was so strong (either fresh basil, or even a drizzle of basil or chili olive oil). Our group of six dined at Stokes Adobe over the AT&T Pro-Am weekend. They have a lovely outdoor area and it felt like a big house inside. High ceilings and a cool bar. It was bustling on a Saturday night. Service was great. First time here, loved the historical building with all its uniqueness! The service from the front desk to the waitstaff (Jane I believe) was excellent. Had a wonderful and balanced Cremant sparkling wine from FR. We ordered a César salad focaccia bread, two pastas and a mussels dish. All were tasty, the Hen of the wood pasta and mussels were my favorite. The focaccia bread came out room temperature and dry or stale, our least favorite of the night. The best was the duck Pattie toast with a jam and celery leaves. The rest of the meal was not great for the money. 1 scallop costs $18 and for the dinner it's $56 for 3 scallops on top of 3 slices of veg. ( not 3 veg but only 3 small slice of veg) with some unimpressive sauce . The pasta that was "hand made" was rubbery like store bought. I love a fresh hand made pasta, holds together while being tender. This is not that. Portions are tiny while cost is big. It may be an old building but lacks in inside architecture or even decor. Little in the way of ambiance inside. Outside, looks better if you go when it's warm, they do have heaters. Big dinner price for 95% unimpressed by everything else. Won't be coming back. read more

January is slow month on the Monterey Peninsula -- you can get into just about any restaurant without difficulty. The tourists are taking a break. So last night we ventured out to Stokes Adobe. Very quiet and peaceful. Seated quickly at a nice table and greeted by our server. Water and menus delivered and all of us choose a specialty Old Fashioned. Excellent along with the big ice cube and a shaped orange peel garnish. The menu is pretty simple yet offering enough variety everyone can find something they like: several pastas, chicken Milanese, bone in pork chop, steaks. Salads, assorted apps. All pretty good. I did have a bit of an issue with the bolognese pasta recommendation from our server-it tasted like cheese not "meat sauce" and was a bit dry. I was disappointed only because I didn't choose another dish. I make it at home and mine was better - way better-- so lesson learned. I didn't bring it up with server-- it happens. read more

From the friendly staff, to the cute atmosphere (formerly a residence), to the craft cocktails, to the lightest focaccia bread you have EVER had, to the mixed greens salad with dressing that can't be described, to the homemade pasta, to the seafood. He's a Monterey local who talks about the menu like it's his favorite subject, answering every question with warmth and precision. Green-chile vodka and peanut-butter whiskey sounded reckless, yet the tamarind, lime, cilantro, and pebble ice made it taste like a Thai vacation in a glass. Stokes Adobe is absolutely worth stopping by when in Monterey / Carmel-by-the-Sea! The service and environment is outstanding. We were seated on the second floor in what used to be the main bedroom with a window overlooking the patio, street, and main entrance to the building. The room was spacious with tables sparsely placed throughout the space, giving it a very open feeling. The tables were nice and large too, so you won't be fumbling over dishes if you order a lot! The sweet corn bisque was creamy and rich without causing you to feel bloated. 7/10 The white sea bass tostada reminded us a lot of ceviche. This r e a l l y hit the spot. The sea bass was fresh and translucent, smelled good, and had a springy texture. The tostada provided a satisfying crunch. And the flavors were so good... just a tiny amount of heat with some salt and acidity paired with the avocado base. This is worth trying even if you don't enjoy raw fish! 9/10 Side note: the timing between appetizer service and entrees hitting your table was just right for a leisurely eating experience It's easy to see why the tagliatelle bolognese is a standout dish. The tagliatelle is perfectly al dente with a prominent eggy profile. The bolognese was so so flavorful and clung to the pasta so every bite delivered on flavor and texture, with tender and crumbly ground beef chunks. 9/10 The cavatelli amatriciana also nailed the al dente texture. We did find that the sauce trended a little on the saltier (presumably from the pancetta) and acidic side however. 6.5/10 The halibut bourride was a brand new addition to the menu (replaced the bone-in pork chop from Spring 2025) and it was the first day of being served when we visited on 7/4. We weren't sure what to expect, but came away pleasantly impressed. First impressions, the presentation of this dish is beautiful! The bourride was rich and eggy, but refreshing too thanks to the citrusy flavor profile. The halibut itself was pan seared to crispy perfection on one side while staying flaky and tender throughout. The scallops and shrimp were also cooked just right and not rubbery at all. 8/10 Best of all is in spite of all the carbs and rich flavor profiles, we managed to walk away feeling full and satisfied without the effects of a food coma like one would expect afterwards which is a feat in itself read more

Service is (and for the two times I've been here) impeccable. Friendly, genuine and really accommodating. 6 stars out of five, and that's so unlike me to go over the top, but well deserved! Shane put up with my questions and expectations, and Maddie was so nice making a guest feel special. Ambiance and service brings me back each time. The M&M cocktail Mescal based with Amaro and bitters was nice but the Old Fashioned took it. The Pineapple Fresca (tequila, pineapple, lime) missed the mark for me with a unique taste but more tart than fresh (too bad since it looked good). Perhaps paired with something that could hold up a candle like a key lime pie or salad vinaigrette but I digress. Pizza is a focus of the HH menu. Shiitake Mushroom pizza needed some EVOO to highlight the nice chew in the dough and shiitakes. But it was the pesto that muted the flavors, that's for me. Surely many would love pesto but I'm looking for fresh and take flavor profile one notch up. Soft pillowy with a char oven taste. Good. The Duck Mousse Toast was good but again a bit muted. I wanted more cilantro (sorry haters!) and briny gherkins to provide some acidity to smooth not strong at all liver mousse. Toast were nice but this is coming from someone who loves foie gras. So for those uninitiated, this is strong middle road entry into Duck liver. Would love to see some more acidity elevate the flavors, but who am I to say. Fantastic service from front of house to our server. Warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The food though - this is the star! Everyone should know about this restaurant - it's incredible. Special call outs include: broccoli cheddar salad (big enough to share) and the tagliatelle. The salad is one of the best I've had. If you like salty, crunchy, fresh, cheesy, with great umami, this is it. YUM overload! Then the pasta - the homemade pasta is cooked to perfection while the bolognese is flavorful, complex, and absolutely scrumptious. We had a great experience overall. Our reservation was at 5:45 PM on a Sunday, and we were in and out by 6:45 after enjoying drinks, appetizers, and our meals. Service was prompt and friendly throughout. We brought our dogs in a pet stroller and sat outside. It was a bit chilly, but the space heaters made it comfortable. The outdoor ambiance was cozy and inviting, with a beautiful front yard. The food had its ups and downs. My husband ordered the tostada, crispy potatoes, and Wagyu. The tostada was the highlight, with the potatoes a close second. The Wagyu, however, was bland and underwhelming--he rated it a 3 or 4 out of 10. He also tried a beer that tasted off, like it had cleaning product in it. The waitress was very sweet and quickly removed it from the bill; he replaced it with a local Alvarado Monterey Lager, which was much better. I had a virgin mojito (I'm pregnant) and it was super refreshing--8/10. My bolognese pasta was light, flavorful, and a perfect portion for dinner without feeling heavy afterward. Dessert was a slight letdown. I'm a big dessert person, but nothing stood out. The options were chocolate flan, Greek yogurt custard, profiteroles, and gelato. If they're busy, you can tell since service slows way down. We've eaten in several of the rooms. The upstairs rooms are the best. There are many fine dining options in Monterey, Stokes Adobe included. I booked a same-day reservation for 5pm and was promotly seated on the outdoor patio. As the restaurant is located on a former adobe estate, the patio and interior were very picturesque. Service was nice, but it took a while to get our meals and bill. Food wise, I wasn't blown away, with the exception of the crispy potato starters (doubly fried and perfectly-seasoned with salt). My Alaskan halibut was just-okay: halibut was a tad on the dry side and the green pozole, while bursting with cilantro flavor, was overly salty. My partner's carbonara dish was okay, but nothing memorable. Our yuzu lemon olive oil cake for dessert was okay, but I wish the yuzu cream was added as a glaze on top, rather than as a sauce...and more of it, please! For the price and size/quality of the food, Stokes Adobe just misses the mark. Not the best fine dining option in Monterey, but it has a nice atmosphere! read more

It was great to see the return of Stokes Adobe. This restaurant looks like it has gone through a slight remodel and the outside patio is pleasing as well. The Waiter was really attentive and was able to set up my order quickly. I got here for happy hour at 4 PM and order a cocktail and a small appetizer. Upon entering, the hostess was really friendly and had us seated right away. Our server was also super cool and nice. Also-- whoever was in charge of the aux cord understood the assignment!
