We booked Stokes Adobe for table of 8 (including two small toddlers) They brought out little coloring paper & crayons which was super nice of them. We were seated in a private area which was nice since our two small toddlers like to walk around and it's less distraction. We did family style and ordered a bit of everything! Crispy potatoes: Love the carbs! The potatoes were crispy and delicious. The lemon truffle crema sauce was so yummy! Oysters: Definitely order half shell oysters! They were delicious! Hamachi: This was okay, nothing special to be honest sinc Mussels: This one was also delicious as well. It was made with white wine and tomato broth with butter, shallot, garlic. Beets salad: You can't go wrong with ordering a beet salad! The honey vinaigrette was delicious! Santa Cruz King Salmon: This dish was simple but tasty. The Meyer lemon sauce went well with the salmon. 12oz Pork chop: The meat was soft and easy to bite into. The cauliflower puree was delicious! Snake River American Wagyu: I thought the steak was okay. It was a bit too rare for me personally but my husband liked it! Brussels sprouts: Yummmm! Love the crispy Brussels sprouts. Overall service was great and the food was good. The only downside of the night was not getting the duck liver mousse toast. The service was perfect! The drinks from the bar are inventive, beautiful, and perfectly crafted. We started with the rosemary focaccia and fresh butter. A great start. The tuna crudo was fresh and topped with lemon, shallots, and fried capers. It was a very good portion. The bolognese was incredible!! The flavor from the pancetta really came through and added a unique flavor to the homemade pasta. The chicken Milanese was perfectly crispy and juicy chicken breast in a bed of vodka sauce and topped with fresh baby kale and sunflower sprouts dressed in lemon. Based on the menu and the ambiance we narrowed down our options to this place. Service was great. The only complaint was that several of the drinks and menu options were different than what was reflected online. Appetizers- we had the shrimp tostada and the octopus. Both were great and we would order them again. Mains- I was looking forward to having the halibut and Luli Pinot noir but these options were not available. Instead I had the salmon and it was amazing! I don't know if it was deep fried but it was crispy on all sides. I will be dreaming about this salmon. My husband had the cavatelli and he really enjoyed that. Dessert- I forget the name of our drink but it was like an espresso martini on the rocks with a vanilla foam and orange zest on top. We'll be trying this at home. We had the panna cotta and affogato. The panna cotta was more like a parfait and tasted like yogurt. I would definitely return next time we're in Monterey. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner last night. What a romantic experience. The ambiance is gorgeous; it's been a minute since I've seen real candles lit at a table. There are different rooms, and we were seated in one that had a lovely bookshelf beside us. Parking is not too difficult; there's plenty of street parking! Our server was so sweet without being intrusive, it can feel a bit awkward at times going to a restaurant when the servers are required to ask how we're doing every .5 seconds. That was not the case here. We ordered the Caviar Service, Crispy Potatoes with Lemon Truffle Crema, and a Duck Liver Mousse Toast for starters. As for our shared entree, we picked the Big Sur Chanterelle Tagliolini. Our server made sure that the pacing that the food would be coming out at would be to our preference, and communicated it nicely. Which, by the way, all came out in a timely manner. The Caviar Service was beautiful. I appreciated how they plated it all. It comes with 30g of white sturgeon caviar resting on ice, chives, creme fraiche, potato chips, and blinis. Tasted great, nothing to complain about, we had fun with it. The Crispy Potatoes with Lemon Truffle Crema were delicious! Crisped up to perfection. It was definitely a bit filling for a starter, but great nonetheless. The Duck Liver Mousse Toast? I'd write home about that. I loved how the vinaigrette sweetened and brightened up those flavors, and the parsley went beautifully with it all. The thinly sliced shallots were gorgeous. Our Big Sur Chanterelle Tagliolini had housemade pasta, and you could really taste a difference! I'm a big texture girl, so it made the experience so enjoyable. Chanterelles are my favorite mushrooms, so I was so happy with how they melted in my mouth. 10/10! For dessert, I decided to go with the very popular Yelp review: The Chocolate Budini! I agree, it is probably one of the best desserts that I've ever had. The textures of a delicate, crispy wafer with the little chocolate balls and soft mousse come together for a great mouthfeel. Visited this restaurant for Mother's day. Ironically, even though I have lived in the area for decades somehow I missed this one. Saw some reviews and photos on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As my reviews tend to be lengthy let me summarize up front and add the details for those more interested. Service was 5 star, Ambience 4.5 star, and for Food I want to go higher but for reasons I will go into I must stay with 4 star. And because I think the food is the most relevant measurement I chose 4 star. The experience overall was great. We reserved indoor as Monterey can get a bit chilly but once on ground and with outdoor fireplaces and heaters it was the better option. And with a 3.5 yo in tow the outdoor really was the better option. It gave her freedom of movement and the ability to be more of a noisy child than the indoor would permit. Our waitress was attentive and great, the seating by the fire was a bit hard but she brought out blankets that could add warmth or in our case cushion to make them less noticeable. We ordered basic pasta for our child and let me just say the portion would have fed two adult men. Nothing amazing but it was palatable and she enjoyed it. We ordered drinks to include one of their specialties and it was enjoyed. And we started off with an order of the oysters. They were fresh, well presented and offered multiple options to flavor the oysters. For main courses I selected the Hen House homemade pasta with mushrooms and saw you could add scallops for $17.00 and it sounded brilliant. The dish was flavorful, creamy and only surprising in that they delivered one stunning scallop on a side dish. Slightly confused I remarked, "ummm is this the $17 scallop". Which in retrospect I would note I really wanted to see the menu again because I sincerely believe they likely advertised it as a singular "Scallop" which leaves only myself to blame. In all honesty the scallop is probably the second best scallop I have had in my life (Libertine Social in Vegas is hands tied the absolutely best to date). But I digress... I enjoyed the dish, mourned the single scallop and cleaned my plate. We also ordered the Focaccia Bread and butter starter. Let me just say that I love bread, probably more than I should and fresh baked focaccia is at the top of my list. I am accustomed to the outside being a bit crispy but the inside being pure pillowy heaven. They appear to cut them in slices and then bake them or toast them slightly before service. Definitely not a fan of toast, or crunchy bread it was not a high point but again well presented and despite my preference I did eat it with my pasta. Lastly my partner had the Wagyu beef, the description sounded great and the presentation was there but I think there are moments that when you read a menu you envision the finished product and let's just say it felt diminished in my minds eye. Flavors aside it was well cooked and the sides tasted fine. I just felt like I heard that grating voice from the 80s or 90's..."where's the beef". Now I say all of that to provide my view on the overall experience but I would say they are definitely worth the experience but go in knowing it will be a bit pricey. And to be fair if it's beef you are looking for I recall seeing a massive 32ounce porterhouse on the menu. But the price matched its size. In the end it was a strong 4 star experience and "scallop" aside if 4.5 was an option I would probably give it. Just not a 5. OMG OMG OMG HOW HAVE I NOT BEEN HERE!! I reserve the integrity of my 5 star reviews and this absolutely deserves it. The definition of California cuisine. Everything is fresh with the rotating seasonal menu. The pate mouse toast was the star the saltiness was so good with the caramelized onions to add some sweetness. The pasta was a unique flavor and had a bite to it. Steak was perfectly tender, seasoned well, and loved the veggies with it. Octopus was a tad tough, but flavor was great and the sauce had this rich flavor to it. Exceptional cocktails and wine offerings. Service was top notch we ate here on a weeknight with our 1-year old and they picked up and replaced our utensils when my daughter threw them on the floor (whoops). We were seated upstairs and had a view overlooking the bar and downstairs entry area. Our server was fantastic, chatting with us and frequently checking in on how we were doing. Well, I guess the first sign something was awry was the restaurant being empty on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. But 1) this place came highly recommended from a few forum threads from about a year ago (argh) and 2) they charge a $25 cancellation fee for reservations. I'll start with the ok -- the pasta wasn't bad. But $35 for each is a bit ridiculous. Michelin guide spots in LA and SF don't charge that much. Not bad though, which is pretty much the only win for the night. The wine pours are truly embarrassing and the restaurant should be ashamed of them. I haven't seen such a small, IKEA sized glass since I was in college. The worst part is that patrons ordering a bottle of wine had the normal wine glasses you expect. So they have those glasses, they just choose to nickel and dime those paying by glass. That alone is just such bad form. The service of course was the atrocious cherry on top. Our server wasn't egregiously awful so I won't name him... but he forgot multiple parts of our order, brought a drink out after we'd finished our meals (because it took so long), and gave us the wrong receipt at the end. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables in our section. Yikes. I'm guessing this place was a gem and a hot spot a while ago, but since then, people moved on. In the meantime, I have a feeling they're struggling because of how much they nickel and dime their few existing patrons. It's a sinking ship and I hope management rights it... Randomly stopped in for dinner after a long drive up from Orange County. We chose to sit outside with our dogs, and the setup did not disappoint: fire pits, heat lamps, and that cozy beach city ambiance that makes you want to stay a little longer. As soon as we were seated, Jane tended to us. She was truly the highlight of our experience at Stokes. Knowledgeable, warm, attentive. The food? I genuinely cannot overstate how good it was. I had to ask about the fried potatoes, which were impossibly crispy--like, duck-fat-labored-over-for-hours crispy. But it turns out they're just regular potatoes fried in regular oil at an extremely high temp. No tricks, just potato magic. Either that or they lied, which I totally understand because I'd gatekeep these potatoes too. The portion of the duck terrine was easily triple what I've seen anywhere else. And the octopus--my god. Seafood by the sea. Who would've thought? So tender and succulent, underscored by the punchy Romesco. Pretty sure I ascended to a different dimension. Our server, Grace, was professional and proficient. Hubby tried the duck mousse over toast. The toast wasn't crunchy toasted as he expected. It was more a slice of bread. Stokes Adobe is located in an iconic 2-story adobe house built in 1933. We arrived on a Saturday evening and were warmly welcomed by the hostess. She guided us passed the bar and up the stairs passing multiple rooms - all filled with diners. Our destination was a former master bedroom of the person who last owned this house. This was an unexpected surprise and quite an unusual setting for dinner. Our reservation was early and we had the entire room to ourselves - very romantic. The intrigue has only begun. Our waiter arrived, exuberant and welcoming. He was a walking historian and gastronomist sharing the history of the building and describe perfectly each dish we were tasting. It definitely felt like a Michelin noted restaurant experience. I started with a Beet a Trois followed by boned-in pork chop (perfectly cooked) and butterly battered chicken (absolutely delish). The seasoning is well balanced and the mash potatoes is to die-for. Stokes Adobe deserves a mention in the Michelin Guide! tldr; Incredible food, attentive service and tons of seating, although parking might be an issue. I was looking for a place with decent food in Monterey after a long drive on a Friday evening, and was not disappointed. Stokes Adobe is a very large restaurant - I believe it occupies what is essentially an entire landed property / house. There is a large outdoor area that, when I arrived, had plenty of guests mingling for an event. I initially thought that meant I might not get seating (restaurant closed for event) but I was wrong. I was greeted and promptly seated in one of the many areas in the restaurant. I was quickly attended to by a very friendly waitress, and put in my order for a Halibut Bourride. After that I asked about dessert recommendations, and was recommended the Beignets or the Chocolate Budino. I chose the former as I wanted a lighter option. Halibut Bourride - 5.5/5 - This was an incredible dish. The Halibut was perfectly cooked, and th soup it was in (I assume the saffron soubise) was a prefect pairing with the fish, with deliciously roasted scallops and shrimp. Savory and slightly tangy, it was an absolute delight! Dulce De Leche Beignets - 5/5 - This was another nice surprise. Since it's a ball of dough, I thought it might be a little heavy, but these were delightfully fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness. I consumed these with gusto! We ate here twice when it was still "Restaurant 1833" and I've always wanted to come back, we had friends visiting who wanted to take their kids to Monterey Bay Aquarium and this was the perfect spot for a kid-friendly and interesting dinner location with high quality food to treat our guests. It's a 2 story historical Adobe and you can dine in different rooms each time you visit, it is also supposedly haunted and we told the kids ghosts would be helping make the food taste good. The interior is well-done with some of the old-charm retained but some nice additions with more modern furniture, light decor, and some paintings on the wall. Duck Rillete: Mashed duck meat with duck fat and chives. Served with house cooked vinegar chips, great appetizer the whole table enjoyed. They brought more chips out when we finished a lot of the chips but still had some Rillete left. Citrus Salad: Oranges, grapefruit, pomegranate, mint, and toasted pecans tossed in a light vinaigrette. Light and refreshing but no greens with it. Seared Octopus: Octopus topped with olive tapenade and sitting on a 'Nduja, spicy italian sausage, aioli. The olives and aioli were quite strong when paired with the more delicate Octopus. The aioli also started separating and had an odd appearance but it tasted fine. Bone-in Pork Chop: The pork was very nicely cooked, one of the most tender and soft porks I've ever had. The apple and apple butter were sweet and I know apple and pork are a normal pairing but would have preferred it without it. American Wagyu Steak: Very good, the kids ate a lot of this and we should have ordered 2 of these and less of the kid menu items. Enjoyed Stokes' HH/happy hour with some girlfriends, but found the experience just so so. We had reservations, since we knew Stokes has a historic and likely popular vibe with the locals. But we were happy to see that their outdoor patio (with heaters and firepits) was not packed! The cocktail menu was quite avant-garde. I had a Oaxacan rum cherry drink, it was alright. My friend had the "NY sour" which was red wine and bourbon. The tequila ranchwater was a classic and had less confusing flavors going on. In all, the aesthetic really is what you're there for--very elevated and bougie. But the experience itself was just alright. Def a place to come if you want to enjoy the fancier vibe without breaking the bank. Good for groups, and parking we found in their small lot. I had dinner here with my spare mom, daughter, and son in-law. We ordered the large Caesar salad with white anchovies, the crispy fingerling potatoes, two wagyu steaks with potato puree and brussel sprouts, the mussels, half dozen oysters on the half-shell from the raw bar, and the scallops and we divided up everything. We were looking at the big 32oz porterhouse but couldn't agree how it should be cooked. My daughter and I prefer our steaks rare ( I like blue), my stepmom prefers hers medium, and my son in law leans more to medium rare but will go with the flow. So, my son in-law and stepmom shared a wagyu and my daughter and I shared a wagyu which was cooked perfectly. Everything was so fresh! Perfectly seasoned. I didn't try the scallops but I heard they were awesome. They were served on top of polenta. My daughter and I shared the pot of mussels in a fennel rich tomato broth with toast points. We couldn't finish them all, so my son in-law helped out. We all shared a slice of key lime pie which was heavenly. This is one of the best meals I've had this year! Had a refreshing, amazing dinner at Stokes Adobe! We decided to make a reservation here to end our night after taking a day trip to Carmel. I had seen good things about the restaurant online, and was eager to check it out -- it was also one of the only spots with reservations open on 1-day notice. At the restaurant, the space had a great ambiance and was extremely spacious. We did end up waiting almost half the meal before the drinks came out, which was a little unusual since those usually make it out first. For food, we chose the cavatelli, salanova salad, Scottish salmon, and ended it with the affogato. It just so happened that all of our picks came out to be green, light, and enjoyable without being too heavy. We weren't too hungry, but the crisp and citrusy flavors made everything so easy to eat and enjoy. The crispy skin on the salmon was a standout, and the only "fault" was that there were so many peas in the dish, it was all that was left at the end. We split 1 cocktail and 1 mocktail, and both were light and really balanced as well. All in all, we had a great dinner and I would come back to try other seasonal items! Dinner here was impeccable! I was in town visiting and my friend insisted on coming here for my birthday dinner. We started with the Seared Octopus, which was uniquely tasty in the best way. For my entree, I ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese and one word... WOW. It was rich, bold and absolutely delicious. I dream about this dish all the way from Florida. Highly recommend! Came here while visiting Monterey on date night and and it was incredible! I loved the rustic charm of the restaurant and the staff were all so nice and hospitable. It felt like the restaurant was never ending because the dining room spreads out across different parts of the house. Food highlights: - Australian Wagyu - Margarita pizza These two are must gets I also really enjoyed the hamachi appetizer. My bff took me here for my birthday dinner and it was okay. Service was good until it was busy and it took 10 minutes to either get the dessert menu / the check. We came at around 5pm so the restaurant was empty. The restaurant is a big house and the vibe was cool. We were seated in the back of the house. The menu is fairly small, which isn't always a bad thing. We ordered: Corn bisque Squash Pasta Pork chop The corn bisque and the squash were good. The pasta has really good texture but I did not like the sauce at all, it has a taste I can't describe but I did not enjoy it. The pork chop was cooked well and it was juicy, but the layer of black sesame on top was confusing and unnecessary. Overall, it was fine, but I don't think I'd return. It was also just fairly pricey for what we got. read more

We had such a nice experience last night at dinner. We got the Waygu, Milenesa, crispy potatoes and radicchio salad. Everything was amazing and the staff was beyond accommodating and kind. They went out of their way to make sure we felt good and had everything we needed. We also sat on the patio and the vibes were so good. Very relaxed and cozy. Would definitely come back. read more

The scallop aguachile was amazing. The chili and acid gave it an almost fizzy quality. I could have eaten three of these. The 32 oz porterhouse was mostly good. Unfortunately they overcooked it. We ordered medium rare. Surprising because they serve it sliced. I mentioned it to our server but they said it was how they cook it for medium rare. I can accept that there's a range for medium rare but I don't think that should ever involve brown in the center in several pieces (majority of the steak). In any case, it was tender enough on the filet side and we didn't want to wait another 20-30 min. Overall, parts of the steak were well seasoned and tender, and other parts were not. Disappointing for a $155 dish, but it was close to being really good. Sides of potato and broccolini it came with were really good, especially the broccolini, which had good heat and acid, with a nice char grilled flavor. Roomy, rustic and cute interior. read more

Came here for an anniversary dinner and we were so glad we chose this place. Service was phenomenal with waiters always checking in despite us seated in an area that made it feel intimate and private. Ambiance is very great for a date night. The food was also fire. The scallop aguachile appetizer was our favorite. It had such an amazing flavor profile. Chopped salad was good as well but the bacon did make it a little salty. The Scottish salmon was amazing as well. To finish we had bistecca ala fiorentina (porterhouse) was perfectly cooked and came with so much potato's and greens on the side which by themselves were amazing. Came here for a fancy birthday dinner and it did NOT disappoint. Loved the layout and walking thru the rooms to get your beautiful table. The ambiance was lovely. We started with the octopus- which was good- well cooked and very interesting presentation. We also got the potatoes on the server's recommendation and THEY WERE AMAZING! I ordered the seared Alaskan halibut as my main and it was cooked PERFECTLY! The crispy potatoes were a nice accompaniment. My boyfriend got the wagyu and while a steak is never the first thing I'd order on the menu, I will say, I tried and it was also cooked perfectly. I probably could've eaten the whole dish! And we ended the night with the dulce de leche beignets. I've had real beignets in New Orleans and while I wouldn't call these beignets- I will say that these cinnamon sugar *donuts* were little pockets of light airy heaven! Just a bit removed from the Main Street that leads to the Wharf but a perfect dinner to celebrate! read more

1. Service is fantastic 2. Corn soup tasty 3. Beet salad - nothing special. 4. Salmon - we sent back. Something was rancid and even fishy. They handled it and gave us a different dish. Well handled. 5. When we arrived, we had reservations but were seated outside in a side area (with no one else), facing cars. That was strange and we asked to move. We moved. 6. Wine selection limited but good choices. Overall, for the price point and non memorable dishes, we won't return. But for the service, give it a go! read more

I really enjoyed dinner here! I feel like there aren't too many great spots to eat around here, but this feels like a gem. I had a great time with their delicious food and staff. My boyfriend and I were there to celebrate his birthday and they gave us a couple glasses of champagne! I actually loved their potatoes as an appetizer. I also thoroughly enjoyed the bolognese pasta!
