    Sea bass

Ambiance and service were good. Minus the food I had. I was so excited to have the sea bass when I ordered it, I got something that tasted like over cooked tuna. Sensed and dry. Don't recommended sea bass. My husband ordered the Mary's chicken breast and it was dry and had no salt/flavor. The dish was not big but we didn't finish it. Server was kindly enough to get the sea bass meal removed.

Had a wonderful dinner first night of our stay at Hyatt resort. We luckily snagged a reservation online before heading on our drive and thankfully my intuition was right as it was booked out, rooms and restart ant was only taking reservations. Our waiter was very good in energy and attentive. We ordered the greek salad to start and tomato soup and shared main the shrimp linguine. I really liked how fresh the salad was and the soup was nice and warm and went well with the grilled cheese it came with. The shrimp linguinie was a pass for me, the noodles were too well done as in kind of point of sogginess. I like al dente. The flavor was okay not too overpowering, liked the tomatoes and shrimps. Got the spicy mango margarita and old fashioned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall had a pleasant evening and moved to the piano bar after.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would recommend to check out for at least one meal while staying at resort. We also had breakfast buffet in the morning and like another reviewer said the diy juice bar was to die for!! And of course the rest of the things like egg, sausage, oatmeal, etc r there. U can also order a poached or fried egg thru the waiter. Breakfast was $84+ with tip so a bit on the pricey side but good for the experience. Overall enjoyed our experience and stay.

So there are a few things that were great at Sea Root: 1. Location. If you're staying at the Hyatt or golfing there, it is super convenient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room is pleasant, with a good ambiance that is welcoming and intimate enough without being dark and moody. It works for a date, a solo diner, or a meal with the family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 2. Service. Our waiter was great. He asked insightful questions, gave us good options, and made sure that the pacing of the meal was on point and not rushed. But then, the problem; The food. At the price points we were looking at, it just... wasn't great? The shrimp linguine, for example (and I'd extend this to the scampi app). It was overly basic, too much butter and not much else. The flavor wasn't there. Hit it with some citrus or acidity, add a little red pepper, hell - throw a caper in! But no. It was... butter. Enough butter to limit your plans for later in the evening without tickling your tastebuds. Just disappointing. And this was the case for most dishes. "How is it?" "Uh... adequate? I guess?" That's not a great endorsement. The place has a lot of potential to be great, but the dishes aren't exciting, or even really well executed. Time to reevaluate the menu - or the chef.

Had breakfast here today and unfortunately the service was so slow. Food came out 20 minutes after ordering. When the order did come there were items that were missed. My wife asked for avocado in her omelette and there was none and a side of bacon my sister order we had to ask multiple times to receive. Food was good but service lackluster.

Very good breakfast food. Very quick service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating options and fun atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would recommend this place for a good brunch option even if you're not staying at the hotel. I think the buffet is a little over priced, but the menu options are correctly priced and taste very good. We stayed at the hotel for 10 days and got breakfast every morning, the head chef and the manager came out and talked to us every morning to make sure we were okay. They were accommodating to allergies, and overall was very good experience.

Surprisingly good food! I was here for work and the company booked rooms at the hyatt. Sea Root is the only real restaurant on the Hyatt Regancy property, so it was either eat here or drive offsite to find somthing to eat. I went in with low expectations, since hotel food is usually not very good. Sea Root is an exception. Good portion, fresh, good quality ingredients. I went with seasonal green salad with a steak as the protein. The steak was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and probably about 4 or 5 oz. The price was on the higher side... I think I paid about 50 bucks for the dinner salad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has nice, modern decor and was busy due to the golf course.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was still prompt and friendly. Overall, this place changed my mind about hotel restaurants.

This is a review for the bar area at the Sea Root. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience is bright an airy. They opened the restaurant portion so it's all just one big room now.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]On sunny days, sit outside by the firepits and enjoy a cocktail while watching the golfers ...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Expect a lot of people watching. It's a dog-friendly lounge and since it's a hotel, children are here and sometimes loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were here on a Saturday evening to catch the live music. (Our friend is the vocalist).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They don't do table service. You order at the bar and they bring your food and drinks out to you. That can be either good or bad. However, keep in mind, they have a full-service restaurant with the same menu. Our overall impression is we would come back, especially since we like live music. My companion was my mom. I wanted to give her a fun activity for Easter weekend. We wanted something a little special. So my mom had the steak and I had the Sea Bass. We weren't disappointed. My Sea Bass was flaky and paired well with the tomato sauce. The accompanying polenta was a little too salty but complemented the tomato sauce. The asparagus was fork tender and the finishing touch was a char grilled yellow pepper. My mom enjoyed her steak with pesto sauce and cauliflower-potato mash. She appreciated the generous pour of her Red Blend wine. I'd return with my mom and it would make a good spot for a girls night out, especially if you can snag a spot by the outdoor firepits. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's good for crowds because since it's an orde-at-the-bar type of place, people can order as much or as little as they want.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Drawbacks: They leave the door wide open to the patio which makes it drafty so we sat near the indoor fireplace but couldn't see the musicians.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, it would be good to have a real bar menu with more bar-type of appetizers and casual, shareable bites. But those are minor drawbacks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We're big on people watching, firepits, live music and generously pored wine glasses and this covers all of the above.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pizza and charcuterie are available for a quick stop in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sit at the circular bar overlooking the whole room and have a glass of wine and let the traffice die down.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Don't be misled by my review. If you want table service, they have a full-service restaurant area.

As a Hyatt globalist, breakfast is included during our stays and we ate at this restaurant twice during our stay! We had steak and eggs and breakfast burrito which were delicious. They also have continental breakfast as an option if you wanted a buffet. Kids under 5 are also free. Great options like cereal, fruits, hot food - eggs, sausage, waffles, you can also make fresh juice! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Super fun![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] great service too!

Good drinks but that more the bar. Mixed bag for food in the restaurant. Nice ambiance and views to golf course. Service good overall with some exceptions. Starting with breakfast. The buffet when available was nice with a fresh fruit juice bar, pastries, fruit, hot food all for a reasonable price ($28). I've also been pleased with the avocado toast and steak eggs before. I'd definitely suggest it as a start of the day. However, our dinner selections were more limited. The fig toast that someone raved about was dry toast with prosciutto arugula and fig coulis-esque spread on the plate. Not much flavor for a seemingly well described plate. The guy beside us complained about his pasta dish and previous night meal, so we opted to figure some else out. Sorry but our waiter seemed new and didn't exude any confidence on how he handled their complaints. For drinks, I liked my Old Fashioned but my wife's Mule left much to be desired. I'd hope for a bit more consistency. YMMV.

We stayed at this Hyatt when visiting Monterey . They serve using higher grade products in their ingredients for each dish. Everything not only looks fresh but also tasted fresh too. For breakfast buffet (4 stars) , we were impressed by the make it yourself juice bar. Q there are a variety of fruits and veggies to choose from ( self serve) that one throws into the juicer .grapes, berries, celery, melons, carrots, kale, etc..., its very nice! From the breakfast menu, I chose their steak and eggs (5 stars). You get to choose how you like your eggs done. I loved their poached eggs done medium as requested. My hubby had the Strawberry French toast (3 1/2 stars) with fresh fruits on top. Service: 3 1/2 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Love the Sea Root. My wife and I visit Monterey each year for the CaliforniaRoots music festival. We are World of Hyatt members and we love to stay at the Hyatt of Monterey which is walking distance from the fairgrounds (festival) One big reason we choose this hotel is due to the Sea Root. They have great tasting breakfast, you can choose from buffet or off their menu. Both options are a great choice. Also a lot of the musical acts stay at this hotel or will come eat breakfast here so you may be dinning with the stars =) The service is phenomenal both during dinner and breakfast. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Both my wife and I cant wait to be back next year.

Service was bad but I left a tip anyway thinking maybe server was just having an off day. Paid for the bill and went on with my day. The next thing I know I check my bank account and the server left herself a 20% tip! I definitely did not leave a 20% tip I wanted to leave 0% tip!! They are literally stealing money and hoping you won't notice. When I called I spoke with Jason he said he was the manager and he was rude and acted like it wasn't a big deal, he would just "refund me the difference" that's not even the point anymore it's the fact that someone felt comfortable enough to do this and has probably done it to countless other people too so if you have been here in the past or plan on coming either bring cash or keep your receipt to double check. As you can see by the pictures I threw it out and had to go searching for it to confirm I wasn't losing my mind.

Excellent dining experience! This restaurant has an open dining set up, located off the lobby of the Hayatt Regency Hotel. With an open kitchen-you're able to see the chefs at work... Very bright, lots of windows with views of the golf course and patios.... Very friendly and attentive service too! Everything we ordered was fantastic! The house Cabernet, from a local vineyard was amazing; We tried the calamari appetizer, cooked perfectly & served with a couple different tasty dipping sauces-a Diablo marinara sauce and a lemony aioli. We also tried the fig toast appetizer, yummy and creative! A light sweet toast with prosciutto, feta cheese, arugula & fig... SO TASTY! Our entrees were also very good!! My husband ordered the NY Steak served with an incredible Chimichurri sauce, perfectly roasted asparagus & fingerling potatoes. While the steak was tasty and cooked medium as requested, the meat was not as tender as it should've been and a bit overpriced at $44. My roasted beet root risotto was so creative and flavorful. With the choice to add chicken, ahi tuna or shrimp, I chose the shrimp which was very good but seriously overpriced at an additional $12 for 3 shrimps that were pretty small. The location of this restaurant truly is Surprisingly beautiful, practically in the lobby of the hotel, the one area that seems to have been updated! Unlike the other buildings (room accommodations) very old buildings, outdated & smelly. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience and I definitely recommend trying this restaurant!

From the food to the drinks to the overall chic and comfortable ambiance, it was an absolute treat! The service was impeccable for our party of 8. We had various tequila drinks and the chips, salsa, hot sauces (some quite hot!) made for an exceptional start. I ordered the salmon, which was sitting on a bed of cauliflower mashed potatoes and draped with an arugula salad, topped with a mache chili oil drizzle. The taste was as perfect as the presentation! The best salmon I've ever had, indeed. One of the guest had birria tacos served with a split bone marrow! Never saw that combination before! He let me try some and it was delicious! If you're an Amex Platinum cardholder looking to burn Resy credits in Monterey, this Mexican restaurant is worth a try -- but manage your expectations. We had a reservation and were seated right away, which was a plus. Started with chips and guac and a couple of drinks, then ordered the chicken enchiladas and the skirt steak and arugula salad, adding shrimp to the salad. The food was fine, the atmosphere was fine, the service was fine -- nothing memorable, nothing bad. The real issue is price. Adding shrimp to a salad cost about $15, and our total with tip came out to around $140 for two people. For that price point in Monterey, I expected more from the food and overall experience. Would I come back? Probably not at full price. But if you have the Amex Platinum and quarterly Resy dining credits to use, it softens the blow enough to make it worth trying once.

The vibes are here but it all stops there…read more.. Let me start by saying that I love this place. Just needs a bit of cleaning up on their transparency. The 'keep it open' policy is something I appreciate but would also appreciate an itemized receipt when you close out. Here's why to keep your eye out when drinking at this establishment. 1- when you close out, it's helpful to verify what you consumed to ensure you're corrected charged. My receipt was the merchant copy and the customer copy. Itemized? Really had to ask for it. 2- the merchant copy - it asked for a tip and the total amount. When we closed out our beer and well drink, it was ~$28. Weird, right? So my thought was that they clearly charged something incorrect. 3- when there's something automatically charged, it had better be communicated to me upfront. The gratuity was automatically added and IT WAS 20%! No sign, no way to notify me that it was already added. It didn't even say so on the merchant or customer copy. On top of that, the copy asked for AN ADDITIONAL TIP. For something like that, I had better get great service. 4- The service here is spotty at best. There's usually one bartender for the often busy bar. Not a problem, usually. But with that high of a price, better serve your customers well and have a fully stocked bar. 5 - the options were lacking. Two things you'd think would be stocked but weren't - espresso (come on, even Kahlua) and apple liqueur for an espresso martini and appletini were too much to ask for, I guess. Overall, a disappointment. Good thing they have the vibes nearly right. But awful business practices.
