[[HIGHLIGHT]]Traveling with our dog, pet friendly spaces are incredibly appreciated, and we were able to enjoy both meals outdoors on a fine June day![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had breakfast out in the big tables while our pup settled next to us - we had steak and eggs, chia fruit, a side of bacon and a side of boiled eggs (for the pup). [[HIGHLIGHT]]For dinner, we dined by the fire pit and had the steak and bolognese pasta![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]So happy we got a great spot by the fire pit and we were able to roast marshmallows after.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Both meals left us feeling fulfilled and happy. What started off as a bit of a doozy turned into a very unexpected and pleasant surprise. When we checked in Thursday evening, and were greeted us warmly and was incredibly helpful in recommending local restaurants and activities, which we truly appreciated. However, there was some miscommunication during check-in at both the hotel and the restaurant. We were told that our stay included complimentary breakfast. Although we had initially planned to explore local spots, we decided to take advantage of the breakfast at the hotel instead. On Friday, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, believing it was included, and then spent the day exploring beautiful Carmel and Monterey. On the day of checkout, we returned for breakfast and were surprised when our server, Rudy, informed us that our stay did not include complimentary breakfast. We explained that we had been told otherwise at check-in. Rudy was very kind and even went to the front desk on our behalf to clarify, as we were concerned about an unexpected $75 charge. Unfortunately, he confirmed that breakfast was not included, which left us confused. We decided to speak with the manager , Jessica to share our experience so she would be aware of the situation. She was incredibly understanding and, to our surprise, generously offered to take care of both Friday's breakfast and the breakfast that morning. This was completely unexpected and we just wanted to make sure we didn't get charged the $75 and we simply wanted to bring the issue to her attention to help prevent it from happening to others. We were truly impressed by her professionalism, kindness and understanding. Along with the excellent service from Rudy, this turned into an overall great experience at Sea Root. Had a wonderful dinner first night of our stay at Hyatt resort. We luckily snagged a reservation online before heading on our drive and thankfully my intuition was right as it was booked out, rooms and restart ant was only taking reservations. Our waiter was very good in energy and attentive. We ordered the greek salad to start and tomato soup and shared main the shrimp linguine. I really liked how fresh the salad was and the soup was nice and warm and went well with the grilled cheese it came with. The shrimp linguinie was a pass for me, the noodles were too well done as in kind of point of sogginess. I like al dente. The flavor was okay not too overpowering, liked the tomatoes and shrimps. Got the spicy mango margarita and old fashioned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall had a pleasant evening and moved to the piano bar after.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would recommend to check out for at least one meal while staying at resort. So there are a few things that were great at Sea Root: 1. Location. If you're staying at the Hyatt or golfing there, it is super convenient. He asked insightful questions, gave us good options, and made sure that the pacing of the meal was on point and not rushed. But then, the problem; The food. At the price points we were looking at, it just... wasn't great? The shrimp linguine, for example (and I'd extend this to the scampi app). It was overly basic, too much butter and not much else. The flavor wasn't there. Hit it with some citrus or acidity, add a little red pepper, hell - throw a caper in! But no. It was... butter. Enough butter to limit your plans for later in the evening without tickling your tastebuds. Just disappointing. And this was the case for most dishes. "How is it?" "Uh... adequate? I guess?" We came here for Thanksgiving long weekend and did the $90 dinner buffet option, which came with salads, sides, a premium charcuterie, carved ham, turkey, prime rib and the gravies. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency last weekend and had an easy breakfast at Sea Root before our big outing to the aquarium. It was a great casual hotel restaurant, with both buffet and a la carte options. Friendly service and solid food. They also provided kid's menus and crayons.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I skipped the buffet, as I'm not really a breakfast person, but it looked like a decent spread. My kids did well with it, loading up on pancakes and pastries, milk and orange juice. I ordered a frittata from the a la carte menu, with sausage, jalapeño, mushroom, and cheddar. Savory and satisfying, especially with a sprinkle of the Pepper Plant hot sauce available at every table. It came with crispy fried potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and choice of toast. I got sourdough. Surprisingly good food! I was here for work and the company booked rooms at the hyatt. Sea Root is the only real restaurant on the Hyatt Regancy property, so it was either eat here or drive offsite to find somthing to eat. I went in with low expectations, since hotel food is usually not very good. Sea Root is an exception. Good portion, fresh, good quality ingredients. I went with seasonal green salad with a steak as the protein. The steak was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and probably about 4 or 5 oz. The price was on the higher side... The buffet when available was nice with a fresh fruit juice bar, pastries, fruit, hot food all for a reasonable price ($28). I've also been pleased with the avocado toast and steak eggs before. I'd definitely suggest it as a start of the day. However, our dinner selections were more limited. The fig toast that someone raved about was dry toast with prosciutto arugula and fig coulis-esque spread on the plate. Not much flavor for a seemingly well described plate. The guy beside us complained about his pasta dish and previous night meal, so we opted to figure some else out. Sorry but our waiter seemed new and didn't exude any confidence on how he handled their complaints. For drinks, I liked my Old Fashioned but my wife's Mule left much to be desired. Q there are a variety of fruits and veggies to choose from ( self serve) that one throws into the juicer .grapes, berries, celery, melons, carrots, kale, etc..., its very nice! Love the Sea Root. My wife and I visit Monterey each year for the CaliforniaRoots music festival. We are World of Hyatt members and we love to stay at the Hyatt of Monterey which is walking distance from the fairgrounds (festival) One big reason we choose this hotel is due to the Sea Root. They have great tasting breakfast, you can choose from buffet or off their menu. Both options are a great choice. Also a lot of the musical acts stay at this hotel or will come eat breakfast here so you may be dinning with the stars =) The service is phenomenal both during dinner and breakfast. Service was bad but I left a tip anyway thinking maybe server was just having an off day. Paid for the bill and went on with my day. The next thing I know I check my bank account and the server left herself a 20% tip! I definitely did not leave a 20% tip I wanted to leave 0% tip!! They are literally stealing money and hoping you won't notice. When I called I spoke with Jason he said he was the manager and he was rude and acted like it wasn't a big deal, he would just "refund me the difference" that's not even the point anymore it's the fact that someone felt comfortable enough to do this and has probably done it to countless other people too so if you have been here in the past or plan on coming either bring cash or keep your receipt to double check. The house Cabernet, from a local vineyard was amazing; We tried the calamari appetizer, cooked perfectly & served with a couple different tasty dipping sauces-a Diablo marinara sauce and a lemony aioli. We also tried the fig toast appetizer, yummy and creative! A light sweet toast with prosciutto, feta cheese, arugula & fig... SO TASTY! Our entrees were also very good!! My husband ordered the NY Steak served with an incredible Chimichurri sauce, perfectly roasted asparagus & fingerling potatoes. While the steak was tasty and cooked medium as requested, the meat was not as tender as it should've been and a bit overpriced at $44. My roasted beet root risotto was so creative and flavorful. With the choice to add chicken, ahi tuna or shrimp, I chose the shrimp which was very good but seriously overpriced at an additional $12 for 3 shrimps that were pretty small. The location of this restaurant truly is Surprisingly beautiful, practically in the lobby of the hotel, the one area that seems to have been updated! Knowing this was more than the swankiest of Vegas lounges, more than the tallest bars of Dubai, more than the rippie-offiest of nice music venues, this is insulting. $13 for added cranberry juice? This better me some incredible cranberry juice. Like, something that prevents the next ten years of UTIs for this price. Sea root? Nah, see the exit route. Dinner service starts at 5PM and on busier nights, I'd recommend making a reservation. Here's what we ordered: -Shrimp scampi: Large plump shrimp, but sauce was bland. -Spiced mussels: I was really glad our server talked us into ordering this, because this was my favorite item of the night. The mussels tasted fresh and the sauce it was cooked in was delightful. -Foccacia: Nice to use to dip in the sauce of our spiced mussels dish. The oil/vinegar it came with was really tasty, since the vinegar was thicker and sweeter. -Sea bass: Cooked well, but bland. I think it needed a bit more salt. The beurre blanc was bland as well. The carrot puree it came with was the best part of the dish. -Bread pudding: Very simple in taste. It sort of tasted like I was just eating bread instead of bread pudding though. I prefer my bread puddings to be more moist and saucy. The very sweet vanilla gelato it came with was what added sweetness to the whole dessert. I wouldn't really recommend going out of your way to eat here, since for the price, I don't think the food execution was impressive enough. My partner and I dined here for dinner during our stay to celebrate our anniversary. Despite noting this special occasion on our reservation note, neither the hostess nor server acknowledged anything. After being seated it took our server about 10-15 minutes to finally greet us and offer water. For a Hyatt property, I was already fairly disappointed at the level of lackluster service being provided. We got a bottle of Merlot to start and I was a little taken back by the server's presentation. After he'd pour the wine, he'd wipe off the lip of the bottle with his bare hands to prevent any dripping. The industry standard for this is to use a linen or cloth napkin, not your bare hand. Kind of gross in my opinion. For an appetizer we ordered the house made focaccia bread which was a bit dry and not as flavorful as we had hoped but still decent. For entrees we ordered the NY Strip Steak and the Chicken, both were nothing special. The steak especially was painfully under-seasoned. At the end of the meal, our server failed to provide any complimentary dessert or offering for our anniversary which usually is a common occurrence at resort restaurants, especially for resort guests. Overall, I was very underwhelmed by the service and food considering we spent nearly $500 to stay on property for the night, and an extra $200 for dinner. Not worth it by any means. read more

Expensive food, no flavor, ribeye steak was ordered med well and came med rare with no seasoning smothered in chimchurri and only tasted like chimchurri, chicken was flavorless dry and fries the same. Asparagus was flavorless potatoes were flavorless and undercooked. My husbands roasted chicken was undercooked dry and flavorless. Didn't even eat half of the dinner it was so bad and server and manager didn't seem to care or open conversation to check in why we weren't eating the food. We had to go back to our room and order the Habit Burger. Very disappointing and stressful after a long day with hungry kids. Additionally service was subpar, we stood at reception for over 8 minutes with staff walking right by us ignoring us not even saying a simple "be right with you" , even what appeared to be a manager in a suit!! read more

We are back for another Monterey trip and ate at Sea Root this morning for breakfast. Gerson was our waiter again and he was excellent once more. He said he remembered us, which was impressive, but also kept working with the same friendliness and peppiness that he did before. He was attentive and efficient and helped make the breakfast a success. I also ordered the Greek Flatbread and it was very tasty. I was pleasantly surprised, and I feel that knowing what to order has improved my food experience here. The buffet looked a bit better as well. They had pancakes today and they looked softer and more fresh than the waffles or French toast we saw in the buffet previously. The oysters appetizer was ok oysters were small and they served it on a bed of wood chips for some reason, Almost ate the wood chips too cuz it was stuck to the bottom and you usually eat holding the shell and slurping it into your mouth. They have focaccia bread not on the menu and definitely a must try. The bread was fluffy and delicious, came with a feta butter cream which was really yummy, coming from someone not a big feta fan. For breakfast they offer buffet with hot selections (bacon, sausages, potatoes, scrambled eggs, pancakes). They also have a cold bar selection with smoke salmon. I would like to mention the self serve fresh juice bar. You select own vegetables and fruits and make your own juices. I really liked that. $27 per person, 5 and under kids are free. read more

Also, we found out too late that the breakfast is included in my gf's points package so we only got the "buffet" for our 3yr old, who was free per the waiter. For me and her we got: 1. Beautiful atmosphere and amazing views of the Del Monte Golf Course. The service is attentive and very friendly. The shrimp scampi is one of my favorite items, very rich but delicious. The Red Eye flatbread is another one of my favorites, giving off a little heat from the red peppers. If you're wanting a more casual experience you can sit near their giant fireplace in the lobby or order to go and sit by the fire pits outside. If you're expecting some sort of amazing restaurant, then you are going to the wrong place. I wouldn't have preferred to eat here, but it was definitely because of how convenient it is. For what it is, the place had good service and standard breakfast! I think if you are staying at the Hyatt with kids, this restaurant will be your best friend here at your stay. I had the Bagel and Lox, and I honestly find it hard to mess up something so simple. The quality of the salmon was good and the presentation of everything bumped up my experience here. It's a hotel restaurant, your food expectations should be very low You are merely there for the convenience and suffer the priceyness Had breakfast and dinner there Their breakfast buffet for $32 is average. They could definitely improve on the eggs and oatmeal (for that price, try serving steel cut oats instead). Steak and eggs was good Service was inconsistent across multiple visits. Sometimes you get a really attentive and get taken care of. Sometimes you kinda gotta nudge them for things and it's very obvious "who" is serving you that time The ingredient quality seems pretty solid so kudos there Dinner was good. We are frequent Hyatt stayers and the Sea Root was a pleasant new surprise at our last stay in Monterey. It is nicely remodeled and very bright with natural light - makes for a great place to have breakfast. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They even went to look for some special items we requested. The food was nicely prepared and very delicious. Only suggestion would be to season the food a little more with salt, or put salt and pepper on the tables. read more

The food here isn't great. We arrived late for our hotel check-in and it was convenient for us to eat here. We ordered: Halibut - Lacked flavor, we had to asked for lemon and salt. $42 Flat Iron Steak - It was cooked medium per request but just like our halibut, hardly any flavor. It's a steak, sprinkle some salt&pepper, done. $42 Kid's Spaghetti - The flavor was actually decent unless our son was very hungry but the pasta was undercooked. We sent it back. Our server made excuses stating 'oh that's how it's supposed to be' lol. $7 -Chocolate mousse - Comparable to Bill Cosby's Jello pudding. The glazed nuts were stale. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Food is acceptable and the view is nice[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD at this restaurant. I went with friends and used a card for my portion of the bill. All my friends used cash because they had had problems in the past with the restaurant double-billing. Sure enough, they ran my credit card through, brought it back for me to sign and then said they need to see the credit card again because there was some issue with their machine. I just got my credit card statement and it has TWO of the exact same charges for my breakfast there! Never again! read more
