This restaurant is everything you want it to be. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and everything was perfect from the beginning. To start they have a customer parking lot which is extremely convenient. Then, while walking into the main entrance you pass their lovely patio area complete with heated lamps and fire 0pits. The restaurant itself is in an old restored building which has many tables in various rooms. We were seated at a lovely table in one of the back rooms with a view of their tasteful holiday decorations. Once we sat down our server greeted us, she was very friendly and helpful throughout the meal and made many great recommendations on the menu. I got one of the cocktails she recommended which was with vodka served up and finished off with some champagne, it was delicious and refreshing. We were quite hungry and got three appetizers, two entrees and a dessert to share, and actually somehow finished it all! The portions definitely weren't huge. We started the meal with ahi tuna crudo, and beet salad. The crudo was delicious and served with very unusual pickled mushroom that were a perfect tangy compliment to the fish. The beet salad wasn't much of a "salad" as the beets were served on top of some crusty bread, but still very tasty and also had a great balance of savory and acidic components. Then we had the crispy fingerling potatoes which had wonderful texture and were served over a sumptuous creamy sauce. For the entrees we had the homemade pasta bolognese which was delicious but a little salty. The final entree was the scallops we got which were perfectly seared and served over a root vegetable hash, the dish had creamy, savory and a touch of acidic components that came together beautifully. To finish the meal we had the pot du creme which as the server put it had "delicious crunchies" in it which provided a nice contrast to the whipped topping and creamy base. First, we had impeccable, friendly, attentive service by a charming young man. The dining room is in an old adobe with historic photos on the walls. The seating is not crowded. There is a full bar and cozy, bar seating area, although we didn't have drinks. The menu is relatively limited for a more expensive dining experience, but we enjoyed what we did order. All in all, I would have liked to have smaller, more varied options. read more

We celebrated a 50th birthday last weekend. We had a party of 10 people. They gave our server at least 2 large parties right next to each other. So needless to say he was stretched very thin. He was a great server but it was obvious he was sweating his ass off and trying to accommodate both tables. I'm not sure if he had other tables to tend to. The server wasn't the issue. Food was good, not extraordinary. Pasta was al dente + and could have been cooked a bit more. Steak was on the rare side even if we asked for medium rare. We brought in a birthday cake and asked to have that cut after we sang happy birthday. We were shocked that they charged $3 per person to have it cut. We had a tab that was over $1000, 20% gratuity was automatically included and you're going to charge to cut a damn cake? We cancelled a reservation at a locallly owned restaurant in Carmel that we went to a month prior because we thought Stokes would be worth giving a try. This restaurant in Carmel not only didn't charge us to cut a cake, they didn't charge us a corkage fee, included a glass of champagne and a dessert for the birthday girl and gave us the option to pay a 18-20% tip based on our service. read more

Its really difficult for a vegetarian to be in a restaurant that thinks that a cream infused soup or a pasta dish that looked like more like soup than pasta, is an adequate selection for vegetarians.The dish was supposed to be Cavatelli Cacio E Pepe, [with no cream listed as an ingredient] yet actually did look like a soupy cream dish. The restaurant has several meat selections in appetizers and entrees, but very little for someone who does not eat meat/fish, and seeks to avoid heavy cream sauces. As a vegetarian who did not want to eat a cream soup, or pizza, my dinner consisted of a crispy potatoes appetizer and what appeared to be the standard bagged green salad with a simple dressing. The two dishes cost $26.00 for a few fingerling potatoes and some ordinary salad greens with little preparation or distinction. Dessert was chocolate pudding, or burnt top cheesecake, which to me was too dense, and one other selection involving coffee. Its time that restaurants provide choices for vegetarians, as well as those who choose to eat no animal products at all, such as dairy. read more

What a gem! Service, atmosphere, food -- all a solid five stars. Our server, Alexis, was attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant had recently been decorated for the holidays, and the warm glow from the candles made it so incredibly cozy. We ordered the potatoes to start -- they are perfectly crispy with a delicious truffle cream sauce. For our mains, we ordered the branzino special and the bolognese. The latter was far too salty but the flavors were delicious. Fish with a bernaise sauce seems a little different, but it was good. Adding two cocktails and two desserts (the butterscotch pot de crème is better than the bread pudding) had our bill at about $160, and it was well worth it. I'd love to sit at the bar or the nook in the entry room that provided good people watching for a next visit! read more

Staff were very attentive but also took care not to interrupt flowing conversation amongst our party. Stellar food. Let me tell you, my girlfriend and I had a great experience at Stokes Adobe! Our waiter Zachary was amazing! He was extremely helpful and personable during our entire meal. We followed his recommendations to the T. Two Golden Hour drinks, the burrata salad with crispy potatoes, I had the truffle chicken which was to die for and my girlfriend had the duck confit. But I can never seem to handle them unless they are cold enough and a number of other nuances I believe required in creating the perfect dirty. But come here , try it! Decided to check out the new spot for a celebration dinner with the family. Menu is not extensive but has some decent options. Cocktails were really good! Wine list was okay, pretty standard for the area. Service was fantastic. Irving was our server and he was great. Additional serve staff was awesome too. Lost a star as it was too pricey for the quality of food. Nothing was bad, but for a $450 dinner with four guests I would expect a higher quality culinary. What a decadent dining experience! The restaurant itself is charming and provides a unique setting as it's a house converted into a restaurant so there are various rooms set up for dining. It's dimly lit and feels super intimate. The service was amazing, well paced and accommodating. The restaurant was even able to accommodate a last minute request to change our reservation time which we very much appreciated. The food was on another level. We started with a side of grilled bread (from local bakery Ad Astra) and salted butter. The bread was crispy and warm. We also ordered the kenpachi crudo appetizer. The fish was very fresh and tasty. For an entree, I had the Australian Waygu. It was the most decadent steak I have ever had. Our tab was pricy but food and service were worth every penny. read more

We went with friends and family to this restaurant. The duck liver appetizer was very delicious and the bread was good. I ordered roasted chicken for an entree, unfortunately the chicken was a little dry but the Marsala sauce saved it. The main reason I gave this 2 stars was due to the steaks my friends ordered being very small. We had to send one of the steaks back because it was undercooked and the other friend had to send their steak back twice and I think while waiting the second time decided not to eat their entree. Absolutely love the vibe of this place! We definitely enjoyed sitting outside on their outdoor patio but inside was also nice and cozy. All the food we ordered was delicious but the star of the show were their cocktails. I got the Tea & Oranges and my friend got the Star Map, both drinks were very tasty. If I wasn't driving, I would've liked to try more drinks from their menu. Service was also friendly and helpful when we needed help choosing from their menu. It was our first time dining here & we had the most amazing experience thanks to our server Salvador. He is very knowledgeable about the menu, his food & drink recommendations were perfect. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by everyone the host, another server the bartender, everyone we walked by was so welcoming. Appetizers: Ordered the prosciutto with fromage blanc which was SO delicious! Also ordered the cauliflower with Parmesan which was ok but wouldn't order again. Lacked a hint of acidity with the salty factor it had going on. Dinner: TRUFFLE. CHICKEN. DINNER. Holy cow it's so amazing! I can't rave enough about it! Also ordered the bolognese which was a bit too salty. We started with a round of cocktails. Beautiful presentation but sounds better on the menu then tastes. So we ended up ordering champagne after. Lots of restaurants on Valentine's Day is a just chaos, slow service, cold food, chefs serving half ass dish and crowded. Well not here at Stokes Adobe!!! Everything came out fresh and hot! Our server was attentive and friendly. My only concern is that this place is going to be the talk of the town and then it'll be impossible to get a table here!!! Happened upon Stokes Adobe last Sunday on a day trip to Monterey. They have a beautiful, spacious, dog-friendly outdoor patio with tables and fireplaces -- it was so nice and relaxing! We ordered the mushroom pesto and Margherita pizzas from their happy hour menu and they were both 10/10. The pesto was made with pistachio, and the tomato sauce on the other pizza was perfectly light and tangy. Our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The only reason I'm giving these guys a 5 is that I can't give them a higher rating than that. Ambiance was ok, but food was next level. Had crispy potatoes and yellowtail crudo for appetizers and they both came with their unique sauces which really made the difference. Had the pork chop, which was top with some breadcrumbs and again had his own unique sauce. Incredible. Finally, had the lemon olive oil cake which, wouldn't you know it, came with its own unique sauce and was one of the better desserts I've had in a long time. The absolute best meal we had not only in Monterey, but so far on this west coast trip. Service was amazing (thank you Rachel), the restaurant is beautiful, and the food,...exquisite. Kudos to the chef! We started with the crispy potatoes. They were incredible, deliciously crispy with an amazing lemon truffle crema. The halibut was a great choice and its accompaniments suited the dish to perfection. The pork chop had a panko crust, was a good size, and had a fantastic medley of flavour with its eggplant puree and tomato and olive salad. We also shared the Cavatelli carbonara. I can't even fully describe how insanely delicious this pasta dish was. Where have you been all my life?? We had to resist the urge to not lick that bowl. That dish alone makes the trek from the east coast worth it. Dessert was also incredible. The chocolate budino was chocolatey but not overly rich or sweet, and the lemon olive oil cake was light and citrusy, definitely a hit. Thank you Stokes Adobe for such an unforgettable meal. Six of us dined here two days ago on Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. We had extremely high expectations because of the reviews and the Michelin guide endorsement. We were not happy with the results. If Stokes Adobe had concentrated on the same quality n their appetizers (Starters) as with their entrees, we would give this restaurant four stars. We had black truffle mushroom tagliatelli (2), scallops with a root hash, duck confit, branzino, and truffle chicken. All were delicious and well-prepared, although the branzino had a tough not crisp skin and the scallops were seared only on one side. [Admittedly, scallops are difficult to sear on both sides but it can be done. My husband does it.] It is the starters which deflated our expectations and disappointed us so terribly. The deviled eggs with crab and caviar (and I make them this way also) were so mayonnaise-y that the miniscule crab must have slipped off the egg white into oblivion (and for $22 for three eggs we expected more texture, crab, and less mayonnaise). The duck liver mousse had so much fat on top that in a dimly lit (but beautiful) room, we couldn't see where the mousse was underneath so ended up eating globules of fat. And the oddest of all the apps was the beet salad: tiny bits of beets on a huge slab of white bread drenched in dressing. We didn't expect a soggy panzanella. We want Stokes to up their game so we'll go back to this historic adobe with so much Monterey history! read more

The ambiance is wonderful on the first floor.....We were on the 2nd floor Waaaamp Waaaamp the 2nd floor is BRIGHT WHITE LIGHTS, and PAINT austere and quite bland, lots of windows so in the daylite it might be better. there was another table of 4 celebrating a birthday upon our seating and they were partying like 1999! LOUD, PROUD & LOTS OF VINO . the entry bar area, & first floor dining rooms are ARTISTICALLY lit, not dark! clearly menu readable lighting, even tho the print on the menus are smaller, we did have someone in our party who needed additional light on the airport runway lit 2nd floor!!! our server was energetic & did check on us frequently however her knowledge of the food menu and bar menu was lacking. she did mention that there was already something off the gnocchi, menu plus added another item not on the menu available for order, short ribs which were ordered and devoured by 2 of our table stating the delishisness of the short ribs with the CREAMY POLENTA was possibly the BEST ever!!! my lasagna was also DEELISHHH featuring a lamb, pork and i think beef tomato sauce and if the noodles were not homemade they sure tasted like it the 4th at our table had the chicken which he had ordered b4 so he knew it would be good!!! i should add the deviled eggs with black caviar we're delightful dessert for our table was 2 orders of the bread pudding with chocolate, cherries and NO RAISINS!!! was a lovely way to end our evening.
