Came here on a Sunday around 2pm after walking around Chinatown! It was fairly busy but mostly everything was in stock. Many of the pastry items had Mandarin labels, so we weren't sure what everything was at first, but the staff and other customers were able to help us. We got a pineapple custard bun, taro custard bun, crushed peanut coconut mochi, red bean coconut mochi, and two egg tarts. Pineapple custard bun (4.5/5): Favorite of the bunch! The pineapple custard had the right amount of sweetness. I wish there was more filling in the bun. Taro custard bun (4/5): Taro custard was more subtle, still tasted good but not as sweet as the pineapple one. Also would have liked for there to have been more custard in the bun. Egg tart (3/5): The crust was thick so the ratio between the egg custard filling and the pastry dough seemed unbalanced. The egg custard was a little too mild. Crushed peanut coconut mochi (2/5): This seemed undercooked as the texture was gloopy and not very firm. Didn't get much of the crushed peanut coconut flavor Read bean mochi (2/5): Same as the peanut coconut mochi, seemed undercooked. Would have liked more red bean in the mochi Even though we were not a fan of all the items, I would still give Stockton Bakery a 4/5 because the custard buns were great and everything was very affordable - $8.50 for 6 items! I would come back if I was in the area for the pineapple custard bun.

All the baos here are so fresh and delicious!! I came here a few months ago around 4pm, which was a mistake on my part since they sold out of most baos by then but we managed to get a bunch of bolo baos, or pineapple buns!! It was so fluffy and soft. I had a hard time speaking to the lady working behind the counter because my Cantonese isn't the best, but she was patient with me. Sooo excited to come back for more!

A close friend spent the day in San Francisco and bought back some egg tarts from Stockton Bakery. Their egg tart was good, creamy custard filling, and buttery yet firm crust.

Came back to this Chinese bakery in Chinatown again, and it's just as good as I remembered--maybe even better! This spot has officially become my go-to every time I'm in the area. This time, I picked up 18 buns, including pineapple BBQ pork, pork floss scallion, hot dog scallion, tomato and ham, cocktail buns, and the classic BBQ pork. All for $27! The bread was soft, fresh, and fluffy, and the fillings were well-balanced and flavorful. Nothing feels too heavy or dry--just really satisfying all around. The line was long again, but it moved quickly. The staff here are fast and efficient, so definitely know what you want by the time you reach the front. Prices are still incredibly reasonable for the quality and variety. Can't wait for my next visit!

I loved the Durian Buns at Napoleon Bakery, so I was sad when they closed. I haven't seen them at the Oakland location and other bakeries don't have anything similar. This Chinese bakery opened in its spot, and when I saw that they had them I had to stop by! 3X 榴莲包 Durian Bun: $2.00 each +Chewy bread filled w/a generous amount of rich, creamy durian filling. +Unlike Napoleon's version, the bits sprinkled on top were crunchy. Side notes: 1.) No indoor seating 2.) Walking distance from Chinatown Station *Verdict: One bite, and I was in love! IMO these are even better than the OG version. If you love bread and you love durian, you need to come try these! Just remember to bring cash.

A coworker tipped me into checking Stockton Bakery out for egg tarts when I was planning my San Francisco trip - and Stockton did not disappoint! Apparently, this used to be called Napoleon Bakery - but was renamed sometime over the past few years. It's sort of a hole-in-the-wall bakery - like many of the other mom and pop shops in Chinatown. Don't let that take away from the sweets and treats found in this little gem! There is an assortment of both sweet and savory breads, as well as the egg tarts!!! At $1.70 an egg tart - this is a great deal, considering 1) the egg shortage we have right now in CA, 2) the size of these egg tarts - almost 2.5x the size of typical egg tarts you get at dim sum, 3) the taste and quality of these egg tarts. The photos I took don't lie - each bite into the buttery, flaky crust leads you into a euphoria of creamy, egg-y custard. The custard filling is thick too. I can normally down like 4 of the dim-sum sized tarts - but I was already satisfied after devouring two of these tarts. There was a short line, but it moved quickly. Service is prompt and efficient. They aren't rude - it's Chinese culture to be prompt and direct. Know what you want. Have your cash ready on hand. I asked for 4 egg tarts - and the friendly clerk asked me if I bought 5, she can put it in a little box - SOLD!

This review is on their overcharge schemes. I ordered 2 hotdog buns($3), 2 chicken buns($3), 4 sponge cakes ($3.5), and one pack of Ma Kei ($4). This old lady charged me $16.50. I didn't realize until I got home that I was overcharged by $3. This is the second time's happened at this bakery (and by the same old lady). I believe this old lady purposely overcharged patrons few bucks on each cash transaction since it's all paid by cash and no receipts so it's not traceable. Tips: try to estimate your cost first or ask for receipts.

My rating is for the egg tarts! Less than $2 each for a sizable tart. I ordered a dozen and was handed a pink box filled with warm, freshly baked tarts. Tender, flaky tart dough filled with lucious egg custard. We brought these to a party and everyone loved them. Line to the door on a Sunday afternoon. Patience pays off! To-go only.

This place was previously called Napoleon Bakery, and I've always been a fan of their egg tarts. In my opinion, they make the best egg tarts around. At $1.80 each, they're served warm with creamy custard and a flaky, delicious crust--still very affordable. I'm also a big fan of their pineapple buns. The large plain ones are 4 for $3, while the red bean or custard-filled ones are $1.50 each. The smaller pineapple buns with filling are 4 for $2.80. Every time I'm in Chinatown (which isn't often), I make sure to stop by and grab a few egg tarts and pineapple buns.

Get their stuffed cheese white bread only $4.00 and they are delicious
    Rudy H.

Really good bakery that makes the best and the most delicious stuffed white bread in the city! They are soft, bit sweet, fluffy and tasty. Only $4.00 each! But there is one big problem, they don't write their white bread flavors in English, only in Chinese so you must ask. When I was there, they were coconut, cheese, cream. I've had the cheese, which I think was incredibly delicious. Pork floss buns, egg tarts and cakes are also highly recommended. Prices are very competitive!

I used to visit this bakery when they were called Napoleon bakery. The manager and some of the same staff still works at this bakery under the new name, Stockton Bakery. I mainly come here for the egg tarts. They're currently $1.80 each and I think they one of the best egg tarts you can get in Chinatown. The crispy, flakey crust of the egg tart goes well with the light sweetness of the egg custard when you bite into it. They have fresh egg tarts cooling down near the back of the shop and you can ask them for those. They taste best when they're warm. They also have mini pineapple buns with custard or red bean that cost $3 for 4. I included photos of the display counters with the selection and prices from August 16, 2025. This is a to go bakery only. There is no sit down area for customers. If you're in the area I would definitely recommend you try their egg tarts.

They are finally back! One of the best deal in Chinatown. The size and taste are unbelievable for their price. Easily some of the top egg tarts in the area. Lots of goodies to try. The service is fast and friendly. It can be noisy and very busy in this area but the wait is short. Def recommend for locals and visitors.

I think this place used to be known as Napoleon Super Bakery? I stopped by here to grab some treats and got the custard bun and a few egg tarts. The custard bun was okay - the filling was a bit too gel-like for me instead of flowing yummy custard. The egg tarts though - man they're so good! So nostalgic. I saved one to eat later at home warmed up and it was even better. Would definitely recommend! I don't recall there being any seating inside.

Once the bakery opened at 9 AM the line moved fairly fast, but by opening time the line was down two blocks and wrapped around out of sight. We'd heard about B&C lines but even this on a weekday morning was surprising. Overall the pastries were very good, I will say that the savory pastries rank higher here than anywhere else I've been, but the sweet pastries don't. We got the Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin, Lemon Bluberry Bun, Potato Artichoke Croquiche, Bacon Egg & Cheese, and Sam's Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake. The Croquiche was my favorite of all of them, and it was great warm, with a nice creamy filling. From the sweet pastries, my favorite was the Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin - the rhubarb taste wasn't very strong but it was overall flaky, not too dry (even when eating it later in the day), and the cinnamon coating also didn't clash with the strawberry, vanilla, and orange. Least favorite was the olive oil cake; it was slightly bitter and the olive oil taste was dominating. These pastries are very large. Split between 2 people 3 of them were enough for us to be so full we saved the rest for later. I also got the Brown Butter Butterscotch Latte (iced), I'm not usually a fan of coffee but it was really good (it's very sweet so as a non-coffee drinker that worked out for me - the syrups overpower the coffee taste). The inside is cute with a pastel pink theme, we were able to snag the two seats by the window. I also liked the merch for sale and got a small print of the storefront. Definitely worth going too once, but due to the line I probably won't return until a monthly menu comes out that has a lot of things I desperately want to try. It's a top 3 bakery in SF for sure.

What was unacceptable was the fact that they, after waiting in the line, took our order and then we had to wait longer for them to make it. Minutes into that second wait, they called us up to inform us that the items they collected our money for ran out. What would we like instead? All that seems rather odd. Why take my money if you don't have it? Furthermore, is the best form of compensation just simply "what would you like instead?" Not exactly customer service oriented and lack of customer love.

I could see the balloon that held all of the anticipated excitement my husband had of showing me a "new" spot (it was new to me) all but heartbreakingly deflate. Sigh. Not wanting that crestfallen look to prevail, I told him we'd try again. A hole in the wall that is takeout only, the customarily drab sunset weather doesn't do the vibe any favors out here. When it's overcast & cold outside, does anyone want cold pineapple buns to go with it? That was my first experience, so I was curious about how the do over was going to go. Night & day... Yelpess with the mostess Cherylynn was spot on when she said the buns need to be warm & eaten asap. This is key to experiencing a stellar treat over a humdrum one. On our 2nd visit they were hot. They were pillowy. They were divine. Gloomy sunset weather? It could be RAINING outside & I wouldn't care right now. It was a total 180. Butter. Do it! I suggest you go for the gold, kerrygold Irish butter. Matcha. I love matcha so it's an automatic order but it's a definite winner. Not too sweet, because matcha isn't naturally sweet. Custard. The Ube filling BAKES INTO the interior & it is amazing! I wished I'd gotten 6 of these. The puffs. How friggin adorable. Just throw in 6 puffs. Or 18. Then dip them in the side of custard that comes with. If you get extra to take home (& you should), all you have to do is be sure to reheat them as per the directions on the box. Just place them on a baking sheet lined with foil, or an oven rack (I've done both, both work), at 325 for around 10 minutes. I think 12-15 minutes is actually ideal. I couldn't believe how soft they were after this. Like new! The next day, after being refrigerated all night! I know weird, but fact! A couple of days later I requested that we go again next Saturday. Like when you were a kid & you couldn't wait for Friday because Friday's were pizza night. That crestfallen look my husband had was replaced with delighted satisfaction. Glee even. We went again the following Saturday. 5 stars

Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.
