Great find for us close to the campground. We enjoy both the state park and the KOA close by, and Sting Ray's is convenient to both. We placed a to go order and the food was promptly prepared. It took about 20 minutes as we ordered fried chicken which is made to order. The rest of our order included fried oysters, stuffed flounder, and fried rockfish. The entrees were all good, although I prefer fish with the skin off. Sides included coleslaw, fries, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, and corn pudding. Each dinner came with a piece of sweet cornbread. Each of the sides we're good with the exception of the mac and cheese, which was bland. My favorite was the corn pudding and the cornbread was enjoyed by all. Portions were large and we had leftovers for the next day. read more

The allure of this restaurant is the fact that it is on a gas station and the food is amazing! We have eaten here many times and the outcome is always the same. Our waitress was friendly and engaging. She stopped often at our table to make sure everything was to our liking and to inquire if there was anything needed. The food was fantastic ! Probably the best crab imperial I've ever had. Portions were large. Large enough to take something home. I had the stuffed shrimp with green bean casserole and a baked potato. Stingrays originally owned by Ray Haney, was a staple of eastern shore life. Dining out was exclusively at Stingrays. In the early 2000's Ray passed on. The restaurant became co-owned and was managed by the staff. Food remained excellent and consistently worthy of high accalades. Around 2010, ownership sold to a Korean partnership or family. Since, quality, taste and the integrity of the food offerings has gradually and steadily gone down hill. An unmemorable dinner for two, of classic seafood or a steak with two sides, will easily run 75.00. The absence of integrity of the offerings, the absence of any atmosphere, the apathy and snideness of the staff; collectively does not warrants paying these prices. Northbound off the Chesapeake bay bridge Tunnel, folks are weary. Drive a little further, there are far better, much tastier and easier on the wallet places to dine. read more

Fresh VA catch cooked up to local perfection. So glad we made a pit stop on our way south. So yummy. The Best fried flounder I ever had. ( my only gripe about my fish is the bones) I still loved it. Don't expect anything fancy or frilly here remember people don't come to this place for the ambiance they flock for the food even the locals and one quick stop will let you in on why too. This place is way over priced for the quality of the food. You order in line like a fast food restaurant and they bring it out to you...after a very long wait. The food was barely warm. After we paid and found a seat...you notice the surroundings up close. It's filthy. The walls next to the tables are greasy and splattered with food. The ledges are dusty. I wanted to walk out, but we already paid. I would have asked for our money back, but my partner did not want to make an issue. We should have... because the food was not good. I wonder how they pass Health Department inspections. Also, The bathrooms are hard to access through a skinny hallway and filthy. Save your money, don't bother trying this. read more

But even though all those terms describe what it is none of them can explain why you should go here... Enter .. me. "The Good" - Breakfast food - Sweet Potato Biscuits with Country Ham. I would get a bunch of these on the ride North to show off a little and have some darn good breakfast in the Northern States. Plus they have a ton of fantastic food that is very fast and beyond tasty. - Its Self Proclaimed "World Famous" Status. - Lunch / Dinner food. The seafood is fresh and skillfully prepared. The Catfish is delicious and something so simple is usually the most difficult to prepare. - There is a special board when you walk into the restaurant area hanging from the ceiling on the left hand side of the register. - Fireworks, not the hardcore kind but touristy enough to be bought. - VA based items like Country Ham and Peanuts. - Shirts and Hats for that special someone. "The Meh" - The ice cubes have a different taste to them. Knowing how things are today, that is how water is supposed to taste and it does not have all the lead and chlorine. Local seafood like no other. This is a place that lacks the fine dining experience, but makes up for it in the local charm. From the store out front with a selection of local wines to fireworks to the selection of seafood and home grown fixings, you have to stop here. It's the only place for miles on this road, so they kind of have a monopoly, and the prices reflect that. The platters are a decent deal, but a little on the expensive side for what you get. The food is great though, and worth the price if you're on your way up north. I got my platter broiled with scallops, soft she'll crab, and shrimp. All of it was great. I got a double order of broccoli, which was a mistake because each was an entire head of it (they do give value in their sides). The corn bread was more like a pastry, but excellent. On our way to Ocean City, losing the light of day and losing our dinner options we take a chance and turn into this place. Tucked in the back of a convienence/general store place, this very unfancy restaurant had some awesome crabcakes. I got mine fried as a sandwich and it was incredible. Chock full of herbs and crab, great texture, and not greasy in the slightest. My dining companion got hers broiled and it was also delicious and served with your choice of sides, of which she chose what turned out to be five star mac and cheese. I tried the "award winning" chili, which was definately a rock solid bowl of tomato and bean chili. I kind of wish I was near this place to try the "award winning" ribs, and the other seafood and meat dishes. It was such an incredible suprise. Who can resist crab though when travel through these parts? The other reviewer is right about the ac. Bring a sweater! The servers are super nice. The lump crab cakes were very good, and the cornbread was wonderfully moist. Very friendly ladies behind the counter. I was surprised the clam chowder had more of a broth to it than a cream consistency, which I prefer. Yet it had a whole lot of clams in it. I tried the sweet potato pie based on the Yelp reviews. Had breakfast here recently. Ordered two things new to a mid-west and california dweller. 1) scrapple: look it up, but it's pretty doggone good here. Would order again. 2) country bacon: 1% bacon, 99% salt. I exaggerate but only slightly. It's an experience, and I was there with native Southerners, so they know what's what. And they said it was done correctly. Go figure. Overall the breakfast is very good, all locals eating. Super cheap. Coffee is quite good. We went to this place because we heard good things and how it is a must stop, but honestly I went with my expectations too high and was let down. Everything is FRIED. Which isn't the bad part, but I was expecting at least some vegetables. I got the fried crab cake sandwich, and the sandwich was good. The crab cake had lots of flavor and was fried perfectly. But you would figure they would throw some lettuce and tomato on top or even a pickle but nope, nothing. Just a fried crab cake on bread. Also, their fries were under seasoned and not crispy or fresh. The mac n cheese was bad. The clam chowder was bad. The staff was great which is why I'm giving 3 stars, but food wise, it wasn't anything amazing. Worth a try though, I guess. Really wish I went somewhere else for my last vacation meal. read more

Wow! Never imagined how great the food would be at this little restaurant attached to a gas station. On this trip to Cape Charles, food has not been a disappointment, but this little spot here takes the prize Hands down! I'm a little sad that I only decided to try this place out on last day of my trip, otherwise I would have definitely explored many more items on their menu. The fried pork chops was exceptional. I stopped here for breakfast and it was fairly nice. The serving sizes are pretty large so make sure to keep that in mind when ordering! It seemed pretty popular, and while it did take a minute to get our food out the food was tasty when it got to us. I don't even love broccoli but this was worth the chance. I opted for the soft crab sandwich. The crab was fried perfectly, although under seasoned and was decidedly lacking in salt. I also had perfect sweet tea- just like my grandma makes, and obviously fresh. If you're a sweet tea drinker, you know this is a big deal. You can taste when tea has been sitting around for awhile. My husband, being a weirdo, ordered a Reuben (in a place known for seafood. Sigh) It wasn't the best he's had, but was good nonetheless. He had fries- crinkle cut and needing salt. We went on a Sunday and the place was very busy. How they know who to take the food to is a mystery to me, but whatever system they use appears to be working. I visited the StingRays while staying in Cape Charles. Upon asking at the wildlife refuge welcome center where to get good seafood this was one of the first places to come up. Ambiance: Nonexistent. Gas station with touristy gift shop (offering decent local goods). Don't stop expecting anything. Perfect example of a good food dive. Service: Friendly. Order at the counter, deliver to table style. Food: Fantastic!! - Personally ordered the chowder and the soft-shell crab sandwich with mac and cheese. Light, clam broth chowder. Very clammy. First time experiencing soft shell crab. The two crabs on my burger bun were crispy and delicious. The mac and cheese was softer than expected but had a great mild flavor. - Parents ordered chowder, pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and Lima beans, collard greens, and corn bread. Tried all of that. Sweet and tasty barbecue sauce with nicely cooked pulled pork. The greens, slaw, and beans all were very well flavored, and the cornbread was wonderfully moist. A must stop for anyone willing to eat in a small town gem of a dive restaurant. read more

We stopped here for lunch on the way to and from a weekend away. The BBQ pork and Chicken Bacon sandwich were huge and delicious. The sidewinder fries SO good and hands down the BEST cornbread I've ever had - sweet, light, almost fluffy, and melts in the mouth! Stopped for lunch here while we were doing the vacation thing in Cape Charles. Probably due to our timing we had almost a 15 minute wait standing in line for the lone cashier. Luckily when I got to the head of the line she knew what she was doing so there was little time wasted. I ordered a Chicken Salad on toast with fries and a Vanilla shake for my wife. Opps, they had run out of vanilla ice cream so she just got water and we shared my fries. The chicken salad was simple, dressed with a piece of real nice leaf lettuce and tasted great. The fries were how I like them, crinkle cut and hot. We found the seating to be cramped and set too close to others for comfort and the prices pretty high for lunch counter food. But, the food was good and the service was efficient. Since we always prefer eating local while traveling we would probably eat there again if we were in the area. read more
