Finally had the opportunity to dine at Stingrays, it was awesome. It is home style comfort food to the core. Mid Atlantic staples are the focus of the menu. Clam Strips were great, the sides were really good too I had Broccoli Casserole and Corn Pudding. Cornbread was very delicious. My buddy got a half rack of ribs which he let me try, wow I was amazed. He is allergic to shellfish so, I was a little worried he would t order the right thing but the ribs were so good. The ribs have a zesty seasoning very meaty and fall right off the bone they were perfect. Stingrays is a classic old school spot, which hasn't changed in many years the focus is the food. That's what makes it great. Kinda feels like you're stepping back in time in there. Don't expect anything modern or trendy, just enjoy the food. We stopped at this place on our way home to Virginia Beach. This place sits right off of Highway US 13. The parking lot was easily accessible and there was plenty of parking. This place takes the order when you walk in, then you seat yourself until your food is brought you. There was about a 5 minute wait before we placed our order, and another 10 before we received our food. You will notice at first glance that this place is in dire need of a makeover. However, don't let that sway you from dining here because, the food was pretty darn good. I ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, and Cornbread. The ribs were tender, tasty and not drowning in BBQ sauce ...LUV IT!!!!...The Mac & Cheese was good, but needed to be warmed up. They use real cheddar, which is what I prefer, and not a Velveeta creamy type cheese like most establishments.The potato salad was decent, and the Cornbread was sweet, fluffy, & hot. The only issue that I had with this meal was the temp of the Mac & Cheese when it was served to me. It could've been a lil warmer. The other issue was that they did not have any Chicken or Fish menu items . However, we did visit on a holiday weekend 1 hour before they were closing: The wait staff here was great..I could not give this place 5 stars due to the need for renovations in the establishment and the temp of my Mac & Cheese. Stopped here on the way back from a family trip to OBX. I had a sausage and cheddar cheese omelette, it was good but I like my omelettes with a saltier cheese, should have asked for American. The grits were ok, needed more butter. My mom got an Egg, Bologna, and cheese sandwich and it was great! My son had an egg, scrapple, and cheese sandwich and that was great too! Daughter got sausage gravy and it was pretty good too! Bottom line, this place is not fine dining but if you like hidden breakfast gems like I do you will love this place. Love everything about this restaurant! I had a fried flounder sandwich, which was out of this world. Huge piece of flounder, which wasn't at all greasy, just plump and tasty. The flounder was so big it stuck out of the bun! Sweet potato fries on the side, which were crispy and absolutely delicious. I was extremely tempted by the sweet potato pie for dessert but didn't order it as I was pleasantly full after my sandwich. I did have a bite of my husband's corn bread, though. Wow! It was the best. Wonderful food, excellent and friendly service and a great local, casual vibe. Folks I was very disappointed in my interaction with this store. Stopped here while traveling back to Virginia Beach. We have stopped here numerous times before for gas and a pee stop. Nothing worth mentioning during those events. Nothing really good and nothing bad. But on Sunday April 28th we need a bit of gas and really needed a quick restroom break. Got our gas and went in and was quickly told (in a what I'd describe as a snotty tone at best) - "We are closed". I quickly turned and seen it was a lady at the register. When I mentioned I just paid for gas and that all the lights are on and the door was clearly unlocked. She again in a real bioch tone now - said "Sir WE ARE CLOSED." I walked out at that point and fella behind me, we weren't together appear pretty upset. Not sure if he had an interaction with her or not. When I checked Yelp later for store hours it did say closes at 7:30. This incident might have happened at 7:34-7:36. First - if you're closed then lock up and shut down the lights. Next if someone had paid and you have accepted their $$$ at least let them pee. Lastly - NEVER treat anyone like that. Never! What I will say is - I will NEVER use this place again. My guess we buy about $700 a year in gas here. Well not no more. read more

Found this place while camping at Kiptopeke state park which is just down the street from here. It's part of a gas station but don't let that fool ya. If you're craving fried seafood , this place slaps. The staff inside were incredibly nice given how busy they were. People tend to come here in big groups. We ended up getting a couple of king platters so we could try a bit of everything. The fried fish was fantastic and our group finished it all pretty quickly. The waitress made sure we were taken care of. I will say that this isn't fast food. Expect to wait a bit because everything is made to order fresh. We were so hungry and devoured everything before I could remember to take a pic. I'll have to remember for next time cuz we'll definitely hit this place up again next time we camp here. read more

This is a nice place along the highway coming off the Bay Bridge Tunnel. They have a mix of just about everything. I had their fried shrimp platter and the wife had a burger. Both were good and served hot. The sides were Cole slaw(a spicy version and good) potato salad and a baked potato. As I said food came out quick and hot and was very tasty. Okay, so a cafe attached to a gas station can be really good! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We had 4 people and arrived around 8 am. An egg sandwich, eggs over medium with cheese grits and corned beef hash and two of the eggs with sausage. Everything was tasty. It was funny that when we arrived, there were two Virginia State Police and by the time we left there were three. I thought it was interesting that they had so much time just to hang out. Sting-Ray's hit the spot in an area without a lot of options. It won't let you down nor will it blow you out of the water. 'A-Ok' is the perfect shortened review. Sting-Ray's is more than just a restaurant. It is a bit of everything similar to the Cracker Barrel chain. You'll see a souvenir shop and gas station out front. One you get to the restaurant, you'll be greeted by friendly staff and have plenty of options to select. If you can't decide, they have the choose two (three or four). These combos come with two sides and are priced reasonable. I split the choose 4, trying the fried oysters, catfish, crab cake, and clam strips. I wasn't impressed with the oysters or the catfish, but very happy with the clam and crab. We tried slaw and hush puppies for our sides. The meal fed two easily. I wouldn't make multiple trips in a single stay, however, I would go back should I take another trip down to the area. read more

Really good little restaurant about 5 miles over the bridge on the Maryland side. I had the fried chicken livers, Lima's, salad and cornbread. And ice tea. All was excellent!! Subtly sweet cornbread. Perfection on the chicken livers -- not everybody knows how to fix livers. Have no fear, Stingray's knows how! Cute little gift shop too. Great food- home cooked style and feel with super friendly staff. We ate here multiple times through a week long trip to the east shore. A nice food selection from seafood to traditional fare. Dinner chicken was a stand out. Breakfast was also great- savory dishes with nice portion sizes and prices are very reasonable. We noticed many locals here all times of the day- to me that says something about the food quality and service. Very casual. Lots of seating. We stopped to eat there on our way up the coast. My husband got 2 hotdogs. Within two hours he was throwing up uncontrollably. The doctor believes it was a staph infection ( food poisoning) caused by the hotdogs. He threw up all the way home to NY, at least seven or eight times. We consulted with our doctor and we may need to go to the ER in the middle of the night if it keeps up. I plan to call the health department in the morning.(note that I also got a black bean burger, and it was totally burnt.) Yelp is forcing me to give at least one star. Wow I can't believe it's been 5 years since I've updated my review here. Let's do something about that. This review took place on Feb 28th, 2020. I was over on "The Shore" with one of my best friends Roy to help him record and document some family tree information. This meant a trip to at least 6 graveyards spread out from Cape Charles up to Accomac. We stopped in the Cape Center, only tourists call it Sting-Rays, for breakfast before starting our trek. We were going to need it. Service and hospitality start the moment you reach counter. A friendly "Good Morning" as everyone greeted one another and off to ordering. I ordered a fried egg sandwich and home fries while Roy ordered a breakfast platter. We paid and then we moved over to a table and took a seat. The walls in here have a great history of the restaurant and the Eastern Shore in general. We were looking around at some old newspaper clippings when one of the ladies from the kitchen brought us some coffee and condiments. About 10 minutes later the same lady brought our breakfast out. She made sure everything was as we ordered it and that nothing was missing before excusing herself. My fried egg sandwich had medium fried egg on it so it was just a tiny bit runny (Perfection!) along with some American Cheese and Bacon. The side of home fries were golden and came in a little bowl of their own. Roy's platter was fairly large. It came with 2 fried eggs, toast, a couple of portly sausage links and a bowl full of grits. Yeah my bud Roy is old school and loves his grits. All in all I think we spent about 30 minutes in there, 40 tops. Before leaving we also grabbed some soda's and water from the convenience store next to restaurant and then we headed on our way. Many hours later at the end of the day we stopped in again on the way home and grabbed a couple of Coca Cola's and chips for the trip back to Chesapeake. My main negative is that there was hair all in the food, on the cornbread and in the bag. This is just gross. And it is the largest reason why I hesitate to recommend it. We stopped in here on our way to Cheriton, Virginia. It's a fuel dispensary with an attached restaurant in the rear. We missed breakfast (unfortunately), but lunch is what you'll see and hear about. I ordered the Shrimp and Chips (sidewinders) with a side of Broccoli Casserole. My wife ordered the Rockfish Sandwich with Fries. My oldest daughter ordered Crabcake with Fries, my youngest daughter ordered the Chili with Grilled Cheese sandwich, and my son ordered the same meal as me. Pics to follow, lol. I can't believe this place has more than 1 star. I ordered the crab cake platter with succotash and broccoli casserole sides and a bowl of Stingray's chili to go. First, the chili was more like chili flavored soup with no substance. You had to search hard for any solids in it. I finally had to throw in some stale saltine crackers they gave us to give it a modicum of body. Next, the crab cake platter, which was something like $28. Ok, crab is expensive. But ... crab cake filler is not. I asked for two broiled crab cakes and was told that they only had 1 broiled crab cake available. In hindsight, that should have been a red flag that everything was precooked and just reheated. But, since there were two of us, I said to give us 1 broiled and 1 fried. The fried crab cake was crisp on the outside and mush on the inside, with little apparent crab meat or crab flavor. The broiled crab cake was just mushy, straight though. As for the sides, the broccoli casserole was inedible and the succotash was just frozen corn and frozen lima beans mixed together and microwaved, horrible. Stingray's is listed as an award winning restaurant since 1950. I'm not sure who is giving these awards, but somebody should check their credentials. Just keep driving North on Rt 13 and--as much as I regret saying it--stop at McDonald's and get a fish sandwich. read more

We stopped to get breakfast. I ordered a bacon, egg, toast & grits " small plate". The waitress just dropped off our breakfast & left. I had to get up & flag the waitress to ask where my grits were. Her response was " We're out of them. Do you want hash browns." I told her I'd take them if I had to but I really wanted & had ordered the grits. She came back & dropped off a plate of hash browns and said "sorry about that". So why didn't they tell me they were out of them when I ordered? Why didn't the waitress say anything about the missing grits when she brought my breakfast? Why wasn't I given a refund for part of my order when part of it was missing? Neither my husband or I ate the hash browns- we tasted them and they were not real potatoes. The toast wasn't really toasted. The bacon not fully cooked. This place came with high hopes since it was a local that recommended the restaurant. It's a gas station/souvenir/t-shirt/restaurant all in one. I am not sure how it received so many write up and features but my experience was a little less than fabulous. We ordered the pick 3 meal and had the choice of broiled or fried. We could not get both in the mix. The cashier said they were not allowed to mix it up so we choose broiled flounder, catfish and crab cake. Our sides were green beans and hush puppies. We ordered an additional side of Mac and cheese and cole slaw. I also ordered the clam chowder since that was also highly recommended. The chowder came out and to my surprise it was not a creamy chowder. This clam chowder was more like clams in broth with potatoes. The waitress knew immediately by my face that I did not want this..what ever the heck it was. She asked if she could get me something else, I said I would take the crab soup. She came back and took me they did not make the crab soup today. There was really nothing left that I wanted so I asked if I could just have the sweet potato pie since it was the same price. No problem shed said, then a minute later she came back and said they did not have the pie either. I eventually got the apple pie because that was about all that they had left. Now the food. Catfish-ok, nothing special Flounder-good Crab cake- I have had better (mixed crab,very little lump meat) Green beans- not really warm, but they had flavor Hush puppies-eh, not very warm Coleslaw-good Mac and Cheese-eh, not very warm, no flavor Apple pie-not so good. Crust was not crisp and bottom of crust was mushy/pasty. You order your food and sit down and wait for it to come out, Plenty of seating. Seemed that a lot of local people showed up while we were there. Maybe this is as good as it gets for around here. I would not recommend nor stop again. I do not mind wacky places (I would call this place kinda wacky) as long as the food is good. The food was a step above non-edible, but barely.
