Visited Sunset Beach Bar and Grille midafternoon on the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend. It was an overcast and cool day and, though the campground seemed busy, the beach was quiet. So was Sunset Beach Bar where we first arrived. There is a huge deck and a second bar outside but I expect they are just used in the high season. On the day we visited, just the inside area was open. We took a seat by the windows overlooking the beach. We were soon approached for beverages. We each got a Lime Crush. They were good, though, for $10, I kinda expected them in a larger cup. At 5:00, we were offered a trivia sheet being told trivia started at 6. We said that we weren't sure we'd be there at 6:00 but would keep the sheet at the table. We ordered a hot dog. I didn't know what toppings were available for the hot dog but under the "Sandwiches" section it listed bacon and cheese so I asked for those on the dog. That really threw our server for a loop. We might as well have ordered a unicorn steak. But after a few follow-up questions we got everything sorted. The hot dog turned out to be pretty good. Nacho cheese and lots of bacon crumbles. The place filled up quickly and trivia was getting ready to start. The trivia leader came around again and we indicated that we were getting ready to leave so someone else could come to play (all the tables and bar spots were full and folks were waiting at the door). We were met with a mocking "booooo." I know it was joking, but didn't sit well with me when we seemed like we were doing the right thing. We passed along our table to the next guests but left with a bad taste in our mouth. The experience was fine but we likely won't be back. read more

On 7/17,my family took a quick trip to Cape Charles and based on a recommendation we stopped at Sunset Beach Bar and Grille for a late lunch. Though they were short staffed, Rory worked hard to make sure we received drinks and food to the outside patio where we were seated because I had my two dogs. A very nice waitress brought them a large bowl of ice water. The drinks were great. We tried 3 flavors of daiquiris and each was perfect. We had the shrimp jammers and calamari appetizers which were perfectly seasoned. Entrees included the crab sandwich, the boneless wings with sweet chili sauce and fish tacos. All were hits and kids enjoyed their meals as well. The outdoor patio was spacious and the tables had large umbrellas to help with the sun. Rory and the other staff made our experience a great one. Bayfront outdoor dining made for a relaxing evening (indoor seating available). Greek salad very fresh and drizzled with just the right amount of dressing. Flounder sandwich with crispy yet moist flounder was a good choice. Friendly service and margaritas and chips topped off a relaxed casual evening by the bay. read more

This is a little spot located right above beach behind RV park. Service was great! Our waitress was very friendly and on point! When we arrived there were few customers in but plenty of tables free to sit! Place is nicely decorated and clean! Beautiful views! We were there off season and just started to storm - very windy. We ordered our food - mozzarella sticks as appetizers, smashed cheeseburger with fries and fish tacos. Food came quickly and all together. Burger was cooked nicely, fries were crispy and hot! Fish tacos were tasty, not a lot of crispy flounder there but slaw and pico added freshness and for me it was plenty for lunch. Mozzarella sticks were very good - crispy and cheese was stretchy! Sunset Beach Bar and Grill is a convenient location to the KOA where we stayed for a few days. Service was friendly and the sunset view was great. Dinks included rum punch and Kona beer. We had lunch a couple of times including hamburgers, soft pretzels, Greek salad and fish tacos, all were good. Sunset Beach Bar & Grille delivers well on its limited menu. They also make a nice cocktail or two if you are ready for a drink to accompany you beach time. Overall, they get my recommendation. We were staying at Sunset Beach Resort and did not have a lot of time to explore the local area on our first day. Wanting something fairly quick, we walked down to the beach. I did enjoy the old Jackspot, so was somewhat disappointed to see that it had turned over to Sunset Beach Bar & Grille. However, once I walked in, I was happy to see they kept the menu tight to focus their execution. The bartender was quick to greet and patient as I looked over the menu and ordered some takeout. I came ahead of a rush and my food arrived (to-go) fairly quickly. I loved the cheese burger - it was a bit old school and tasted like what I used to make it the backyard. The fish tacos were meaty and delish. We both felt satisfied with our meals and would recommend - especially for those looking for a quick bite on the beach. read more

This place was great. The crab dip and fish fingers were delicious. Cory took excellent care of our party of 8. The restaurant is right on the beach the views are amazing, especially the sunset. We had 3 people in wheelchair and they were able to access the restaurant. The only problem with the ramp is at the entrance and that is NOT the restaurants fault but the KOA campgrounds. There is a place to rinse off and the water pools at that spot. Worth the minor inconvenience to go to the restaurant! read more

I came down July 4th weekend. I wasn't impressed with their menu. It was quite small, and the service was extremely slow. I waited at the bar for 20 min before the lady could even get my order...and waited awhile for my food. They seemed very under staffed and unprepared for the summer. I will say I did like their pina colada. I ordered their chicken tenders, and nachos. It was ok. They weren't terrible. read more

This is a little hidden Jem! You are literally on the beach. The outdoor seating was so relaxing and they had live music! The food was fantastic. We had fish tacos chicken salad and crab cakes all were delicious. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. There was a storm coming and I didn't want to leave because it was so relaxing. This is a must stop on your way to Virginia Beach. read more

We had our wedding reception here last weekend and everything was amazing! Chrissy and Megan made sure the food was replenished and everything was absolutely delicious. Everyone raved about the crab cakes, fish tacos and chicken salad. The soft pretzels were also a big hit!Rory kept us all hydrated as the drinks were flowing. It was an incredible day that was made that much better by the wonderful food and fabulous service. We were able to enjoy our time with our guests and not have to worry about anything else. A hidden gem!! We rented a pontoon boat in nearby Cape Charles and travelled to this spot for lunch and drinks. We beached the boat (on purpose, of course) on the adjacent beach and went inside for Orange Crush's and chow. We had an amazing time. The staff are awesome and went above and beyond to make the trip a memorable experience. Also loved the view! read more

Stop in so my husband could get fresh fish. I do not like fish so thought I would just have some fries. They had some amazing sounding salads so I thought I would give the Mediterranean a try. It was delicious!! My husband grew up on Long Island so he knows fish and said his crab cake sandwich and our son's shrimp salad sandwiches were amazing. Just arrived on the tip of the island looking for lunch and this is the first one we saw. It is a bit hard to find since it is behind an RV park but worth the trip. Great food, drinks, ambience, and even live music. The service is great too and our server Mrs. Bowden, a native islander, even gave us some recommendations on dinner spots the next two nights.
