Came here with my best friend on the way back to Hampton Roads after a brief overnight trip to Cape…read moreCharles. It's a quaint little shop where you can buy fresh seafood, groceries, as well as different pastries and other dishes at the deli counter. I was originally in the mood for an Italian sandwich, but after speaking with the employee working the counter, I got a Shrimo Po' Boy because he said "The way we make em here, you won't find anywhere else." After one bite, I realized exactly what he meant; the shrimp were so fresh that I just knew they were caught straight out of the Cheseapeake Bay that same morning. I was also a fan of the thinly sliced French fries. I got a lemon square to eat after my sandwich, and it was also so good that I grabbed a slice of rainbow cake to go. The rainbow cake was good, but a tad dry, so definitely go for the lemon square if you're looking for a dessert here. All in all, the beach market is a great stop for anybody looking for a quick bite to eat or to support a local grocer in Cape Charles.

They served tasty and hearty corn and crab chowder. Growing up, I was a sucker for old-school steak fries. These are not them. They may appear to be fat steak fries at first glance, but they're better. Just a wide as steak fries but sliced ribbon-thin and very well seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and maybe a little parmesan. And if you enjoy a thick fat Italian sub, this is it. The bread was a crusty ciabatta roll. What made the difference for me on this Italian sub was that it was nicely toasted... holy smokes! The Beach Market is, indeed, a market, too. If you have a refined tastes in wine and other food delicacies do not miss out!

We walked in, and it was a fish/ Seafood market with all kinds of things. They had prepackaged frozen seafood in the freezer, fresh seafood, and other non food items for sale too. We checked out the prices of the crabs and knew this was were we wanted to be. (CHECK OUT THE PICTURE OF THE PRICES) I walked to the register ready to order all excited, and asked for 2dz males $35... The lady responded and said "sorry you have to call the day before. We have crabs but they're slotted for people who already called in." I was disappointed, but completely understand. You never know what you're going to catch day over day. So we left. Fast forward 2 weeks later, we called ahead and ordered a half bushel $60. Awesome prices right!! The crabs were good overall. I did have a few that were mushy. Normally there are two things that cause crab meat to become mushy. Either the crabs were over cooked or the crabs died and the bacteria began breaking the meat down prior to steaming. However, for the most part, they were good outside of the mushy ones. Nice size too, nothing overly large, but not tiny either. They're worth the drive from Hampton Roads.

The steamed ones had no seasoning and appeared to have been dead when steamed as the shells were black and they were almost cold when we got them. We called and the assured us they were good and fresh. Weellll, I got sick from them. Took me 2 days to recoup. I had referred a couple from the campground to them but now I feel bed since our other neighbor RVer also had an issue with his steamed crabs. Make sure the shells appear white on bottom!!!!
