This was a very chill location, if you're looking for a place where you and your friends can sit and just chat. It does get a bit noisy with other conversations around the lounge, but nothing too crazy. This place is strictly drinks so grab some food before heading here. Hint: Lil Woody's or Taylor's Farm around the corner down the small hill if you don't want to go that far. I think it'd be nice to have food or tapas provided here. Location is down a street where it may look like an alley, but it's not. I like the location because it's not next to many other bars around the street, and inside was very open, yet what was a bit interesting was that the tables were bolted down. It kind of sucks if you have a big party and you aren't sitting in the booth directly across from the entrance. You'll have gaps between tables since we can't put them together. Also, you'll be ordering at the bar! No waiters or waitresses that will come to your table, and that sign as you walk in, it will say to order at the bar, not the typical sign "please wait to be seated". ;) read more

Good cocktails (small and strong) made by a very friendly bartender. Conversations were overheard along the bar amongst strangers or acquaintances. The wooden booths are big, great for groups (3-6 people). Nothing remarkable, just a nice vibe for a relaxing evening out. Currently, there is a lack of sign for the bar, but it has big glass windows, so you can find it easily. Happy hour is 5-7pm, with discounts on beer and wine. Thank goodness for bday parties ... otherwise I never would have found this solid bar. Elaboration below: Location: Off the beaten path ... located on the road-less-traveled, Minor street. None-the-less, it's just barely on the capitol hill side of I-5 so it's an easy stop when coming to/from downtown. Ambiance: Medium sized bar with classic decor ... including black leather barstools and stained wood bartops ... has a 50's mad men feel to it. Had enough space to comfortably accommodate a bday party of 15-20 people ... in addition to the other patrons there between 10-12am. Service: I never had to wait for a drink ... and was even offered help by another bartender when I was just waiting for my order - such a pleasant surprise from the usual bar scene that takes so much effort. The bartender was also very helpful in selecting drinks from their cocktail focused menu. Drinks: I tried the following from their menu: California Prayer Book (CPB), Southern Belle (SB), and Minor Mule (MM) ... and I would rate them in that order. CPB was bold with rye spice, SB was strong and not too sweet (in a good way) ... maybe a bit too much vodka, and the MM was also vodka strong with the ginger ale not contributing much to balancing the drink. If you're not into cocktails, they have Stella on draft. Additional Notes: I spent less than 2 hours here so I don't feel like I have fully formed my opinions ... my gut says this will definitely be more of a place to meet a group of people you already know ... instead of going there to make friends. A generous little hole-in-the-wall spot. Wide open areas allow for more generous groups to trail in, while off to the side you can find more intimate seating. The liquor isn't the only thing that will make you feel the warmth, but the heated wooden benches give your butt n' back a nice toasty feel when its freezing outside. Owner/bartender is super amazing attentive. Not only does he serve some fine drinks, holds open doors, AND remembers exactly who got what for the night. Bravo! Loved this place! Chill, dark, lounge-y atmosphere, which makes it the perfect place to start the night. I like how it's kind of tucked on a side street and halfway underground. Good date spot to actually get some conversation in. As for the drinks, I tried the "Botany of Desire" and the Pimm's Cup, both delicious - in fact, *everything* on the cocktail menu looked good! I just adore this giant bar overlooking the city! You may find it a little difficult to find but once you do, you will find a great cocktail and great service. I recommend meeting a handful or more of people here as there is plenty of room. You will feel like you were dropped into another era, the restoration is perfect! A for ambiance! First time here off a recommendation from Vanessa A and it did not disappoint. My friends were visiting from SF so we started our night at Still. Tucked down in the corner of a side street is this dark, clean, slick, welcoming, classy, chill, raw/neoteric-feeling bar with candles on tables and a great selection of alcohol. There were only three of us, but we sat at a larger table that was meant for at least 6+ and it was all gooood. Table/waiter service doesn't start until 8pm, but ordering at the bar is quick and easy as the bartender was on top of her game, churning out beers, shots, and mixed drinks all while chatting, joking, and keeping it live. I had two gin n' tonics, a shot of tequila, and a few beers (friends had shots and beers) and I know we didn't break the $100 mark. Prices are decent, especially for a place that looks like it's drink menu starts at $12. The location kinda bites, but as long as they keep doing things like they do now, it should be there for the long-haul. The gallery on the website is actually how it feels when you are inside...it just has this aura about it that I can't put into words, but what I can say is that if you haven't been here, check it out! BAD service. We walked in and the staff looked directly at us then looked directly away. Rude. We should've walked directly right outta there but decided to bite le ol' tongue and order a drink. Because I wasn't feeling le ol' liquor, I got a bottle of Newcastle and parked le behind at one of their tables. The staff never approached us, we figured if we have to walk up to the bar again to order another drink, it is time to go. So we walked up and paid the tab then left. I'm interested in any place that has a Scrappy's celery bitters drink listed on their cocktail menu. And now, having tried the 'Bitter Swede' (bitter, indeed, but good!), I'm looking at digging this place. It's huge - there's a lot of open space. With the cement floor and walls, I was honestly a little put off at first - but I arrived in the day time, with daylight shining in the big windows - it looked harsh. After nightfall, however, after the bartender came around and lit all the candles, it became much warmer. It reminds me of a mineshaft somehow - wood, concrete, beams - in an interestingly good way though; some kind of hidey hole with good cocktails. Very unpretentious. Men who feel awkward in a place like Vessel would feel fine here, though there is a sufficient amount of subtlety for women and snobsters to like it too. Very tame on a weekday night - 6 people here aside from me, at 9:30 on a Tuesday. The bartender tells me this is more or less normal, but it gets pretty crazy on weekends, standing room only. read more

This place still ROCKS. Apparently the amazing selection of booze was inspired by one of the most famous/top and influential bartenders in town. They carry Tito's, Yamazaki, Chopin, Scrappy's Bitters, ... I mean all of my favorite cocktail ingredients. Bartenders/Staff/Owner (aka Dan, Tyler and Breckeen) are super awesome/friendly. I asked for a cocktail that was "happy and ravishing", with a heavier accent on "ravishing". Dan did a great job executing on that very weird and eccentric drink order. I have been here a few times and I must say, this place is fantastic! I went here for New Years and we had the best time. They papered out the windows, had a free photo booth, champagne toast - they were even very very prompt on drink orders...never waited more than 3 or so minutes; excellent service! The thing that the girls really liked was that their long booth in front of the bar is heated...yes, the seats are heated! What a great idea.. Came here on a Friday night for a friend's birthday. Had a couple really great cocktails: a perfect Manhattan which was actually perfect, and a Negroni which was also fantastic. The bartenders really know what they're doing. It was quite loud and crowded, unfortunately, but I suppose that's par for the course on a Friday night. This is one of the best kept secrets in Seattle. While Zig Zag Cafe gets all the fame (deservingly so), the drinks here are just as good, if not better. I became a regular at here with some of my grad school friends, we'd roll in there on both busy nights and off nights and the drinks that Daniel made were some of the best I've ever had. Now that I moved away, this is one of my first stops when I go back into town. My drink of choice was an Old Fashioned, when Daniel made it, I knew exactly what I was getting. But you can always tell any of the bartenders what your mood was and they knew exactly what to make for you. There are a lot of places were you can order the same drink over and over and it will be inconsistent from drink to drink. Here, you know exactly what you're getting and it will always be quality. The owner is a cool guy as well who was always helpful when it came to hosting events. Only grown up drinks here so if you want a frat boy drink, do the bartenders a favor and go around the corner. read more

Checked this new spot out the other day on a date. It was... awesome! The atmosphere is very spare & unassuming with concrete walls, simple wood, exposed pipes, very cool. The bartender was friendly & attentive serving up some tasty & inventive cocktails, like a moscow mule with cucumber. We arrived around 8:30 on a weeknight & it was relatively empty, by the time we left around eleven some hipster crowd (not too young, mostly dudes) was filtering in. We were very excited for a dark and sultry hipster bar to open stumbling distance from our apt. And indeed, upon entry, it seemed likely to live up to all necessary hipster criteria: gorgeous wood booths and rough-finished floors, an expansive bar, good seating, with a bit of an underground speakeasy vibe. We'd heard how packed it was on the weekends, sure to be hard to get into any day of the week. And yet, when we walked in on a Thursday, no one was there, except for a few guys at the bar that appeared to be friends of the bartender. No matter, we thought. More room for us! And yet no one else ever came in...and the bartender seemed vexed every time we interrupted his animated banter with his buddies to ask him for a drink. Lest you think this was a one-time occurrence, this has happened 4 out of the 5 times I've been there. If it weren't so damn convenient to our place -- nor as beautiful a decor -- I would have panned it long ago. So this review is really a request to the owners and / or the bartender: you spent a lot of money to open a hipster bar in First Hill / Cap Hill. Why not try to fill it with hipsters? And then pay some attention to them, so they don't fade away to the next hipster hangout of the month. read more

This place is hidden on a capital hill side street. I was originally very confused and kept thinking I was going to sun liquor nearby. It was fairly crowded, but cleared out and I was able to get a table. Drink service was great. My waitress Jill did an exceptional job, coming by often to make sure we had everything we needed. She also brought us a fantastic bourbon shot but unfortunately I can't recall what it was. Drink menu looked impressive, with a wide selection of bottled beer. I could go with more tap beer options myself. Also the bathroom situation is a little painful, I never understand bars that dont have multiple stalls. You do get to make friends in the bathroom line though, but I am frequent urinator and would like to not nearly pee my pants once an hour. I hope to go back soon, maybe next time I will see if I can reserve a table. read more

We were looking for some pre dinner cocktails, and this placed looked like a classy dive bar. They made a good Paper Plane, service was efficient, and the bathrooms were clean. It's pretty spacious, and there was plenty of space for standing and sitting. They should get extra points for having special events and drink promotions during Game of Thrones season. read more

Still was my safe place for 3 years. In a city that's close to impossible to make immediate friendships, Still is a safe haven of friendship. Whether it be the bar staff or the laid-back regulars, there is no bar in Seattle easier to feel at home in. Upscale bar with a neighborhood bar feel. There is no reason to only go once. Really liked this place. * Lots of whiskeys, including a few of my favorite kind: Islay scotch. * I sat at the bar with a book and didn't feel uncomfortable (it was light enough and not too busy) and when my friends arrived found the booth to be comfortable enough despite all of the hard surfaces (the place is all wood/stone/iron). * Not too loud when less than half full so you can have a conversation but that may change on busy nights. * Parking was easy on the off night I was there but it's walkable from downtown if you have difficulty. * You can dress up but it's still Seattle, nobody is going to care if you are casual. read more

This place is what it is. They have $2 Session during happy hour and some other good drink specials. If you go there before sunset (or have a not so great date you don't want to look at too closely) it's cool. After the sun goes bye bye, you might want to bring a table lamp, giant candle, etc... I managed to get parking right in front of the building, but I was there on a Sunday evening. Not sure about how it is most nights. Oh yeah, they don't serve food which doesn't really bother me (but others have complained about it so I'm including it as fair warning). If you're that hungry you can bring outside food in, so there ya go. Oh, and they are quick to clean up a party foul (i.e. broken glass). But bear in mind that this isn't a bro bar (from what I gathered). You don't go here to "see and be seen", at least from what I gather. Stopped here for a post-dinner drink because it was on my walk home and I had it bookmarked in Yelp (assumably from Cocktail Bar research I did last year but don't remember). Ambience: 4 stars The space is indeed minimalist in a Pacific NW kind of way - concrete floors, exposed beams, and bare lights in wire cages. We took seats at the almost empty bar, where the chairs looked comfortable but weren't because you kept sliding out of them unless you propped your foot on someone else chair. Cocktails: 2 stars The bar appeared to be well stocked, so I was surprised to see only 6-8 cocktails listed on the menu. More than the usual amount of whiskey/rye based cocktails, one of which I had and couldn't finish. It wasn't terrible but it tasted flat and lacked some balance. I may be judging more harshly than normal because it was a nightcap, so unless it was really tasty, I wasn't going to finish it "just because." Service: 4 stars Service was prompt, they provided water without asking, and quickly provided the check when we asked. Maybe this is one of those, "Fix me a drink that makes me feel like I'm floating in a sea of marshmallows made out of sage," kind of places, and I just didn't think to ask the staff behind the bar to wow me with their drink-emotion pairing prowess. More likely, judging by the people in there, it's a popular spot for colleagues and acquaintances - not too intimate, moderately priced, and has cool architecture to provide conversation fodder when you can't think of what to say next. read more

I'm a little hesitant about writing this review because I just found my new hide-a-way, and if I tell everyone about my new love, it will no longer be able to hide...a...way... I stumbled across this place last night for a friend's cousin's going away party - a little hard to find as it's on a skinny little street like they all are on Capitol Hill, but as you're walking down the street this swanky little place pops up with it's dark candlelight and once you open the doors there is a warmth both in the space and the crowd that just surrounds and consumes you. This place is so chill and in a good way - it's not subued, it's lounge-y without being pretentious or stuffy. Just as everyone has stated, it has a great open floor plan, and the makings of the place - natural wood and cement beams - is so appealing to me in an exciting but with an ooohhhh-inspiring kind of awe. The bartender / waitstaff was great and even got the pleasure of meeting owners Josh & Breckeen (that's right - B-R-E-C-K-E-E-N, Breckeen - I'm a spelling bee CHAMP!) that were both very down to earth and accommodating - at one part I was in dire need of water and Breckeen hopped the bar and immediately poured me a glass (what can I say, after a long day of impromptu pub crawling - a girl gets parched!) What's even better is the crowd adds to the atmosphere - warm, open, and full of stimulating conversation. It made my natural social butterfly tendencies want to flourish, and I talked to different groups in all parts of the bar, just introducing myself talking about random things of the ways of the world without ever hearing a frat guy pick-up line or someone looking at me weird for wanting to meet them just to meet them (I only knew one person in the entire bar so the butterfly was in full flight last night). All in all, a great spot - and anyone that knows me, knows I refuse to make the jaunt cross-town from Queen Anne to Cap Hill because cross town is just so darn difficult, but for this place - I would gladly pay a $10 cab ride to cozy on in for the night. I have been here once or twice before without writing a review and had a pretty decent experience. Last night however, was a unfortunate experience at Still Liquor. I went in with a friend for a quick cocktail after dinner and we were seeking for a seat at the bar. The bartender was sitting on a stool behind the bar on her phone. When we finally started a couple seats, she came over and greet us in a way that made it seem like we were disturbing her presence. It wasn't like we were the only two people in the bar either. There are probably three or four groups of two - 4 people. My friend ordered Sun liquor vodka and she said that they didn't have it. She didn't offer any other suggestions or perhaps point is to a spirits' list. He tends to prefer local spirits, but he decided to go with Ketel One just to be safe. I ordered a gin and tonic. We enjoyed one another's company but anytime we needed anything such as another round or a bill she was sitting on a stool on her phone or talking to someone that was clearly her friend at the other end of the bar. Even when she would come over upon pur request, she would look completely annoyed. Everyone has rough days, so maybe this was the case with this bartender, so maybe this was the case with this part of it. However, I probably won't be back since there are so many great bars in the area. read more

Went here on a cold Friday night, was welcomed into a warm and low lit space that was comfortably crowded (still a few tables available, but a comfortable din of conversation around). Given that the space is brand new it smelled fairly strongly of wood varnish, but one drink in you hardly notice. Plus the wooden details (the booths, the exposed beam ceiling, the solid wood bar) really make this place aesthetically pleasing. Fairly small drink menu as far as cocktail/beer/wine options, I'm hoping that they expand this with time (especially the beer options). My first drink was pretty good, I had The Last Word (I think Murray of Zig Zag fame made this one famous), but it was not perfect. Given that their prices are in line with those of Tavern Law, I'm getting kind of spoiled and expect this same level of perfection... Second cocktail was the special, a ginger gimlet. Not so great, very sweet and slightly medicinal, not very well balanced. Perhaps the reason the drinks do not taste so balanced is that they are STRONG. So I guess that increases the overall value of the cocktail if you are looking for more bang for your buck! The staff were completely friendly, but seemed a bit harried. I think this is just because the place is new and that they are still getting into the swing of things. Will definitely be back, happy to have this place in the neighborhood! read more
