Unfortunately I can not replicate my mom's cooking so I'm thankful for Sticky Rice. My favorite dishes include: sausages, nam kow with pork, Tom kha, herbed chicken fried rice, pad Thai, pad kee mow, beef jerky and green curry. My husband said this was the best pad Thai he's had! The food most of the time is pretty good. We've definitely had plenty of orders that weren't spot on but most of the time they get most of the order correct. What's been on the decline is placing to go orders. Twice in the past month I've been placed on hold when calling with no one returning to the phone line. Only to call back and be placed immediately on hold again. The last time we were in the area,we tried to place an order so we can grab the food on the way home. We arrived with our phone still on hold and the call time said 10 minutes. They acknowledge there is no indicator to let them know someone is on hold. Did they apologize, nope, really more of, we're busy, to bad so sad. The tofu and the rest of the vegetables were pretty good though. All in all, this place was still pretty good as the staff were pretty friendly. Not bad, not great. My friend and I decided to drop by for lunch to check out the hype with Sticky Rice. We started off with the fried calamari appetizer which was alright. Pretty standard stuff. The dipping sauce is a lighter sweet chili sauce. I ordered the chicken green curry level 5. The curry was super thick and is probably the brightest and vibrant colored green I've ever seen when it comes to green curry. The chicken was more on the dry side. Eggplant in curry? Weird. My curry also wasn't all that spicy. For "Thai spicy" I think they should use fresh Thai chili peppers instead of that crushed red chili pepper/powder. I also took a bite out of my friend's pad Thai and I thought it was decent. Overall this place will probably satisfy a craving. I'm gonna stick to the Thai place that's closer to my house though. I heard Sticky Rice's Lao food is pretty good though so maybe one should opt for their Lao side of the menu rather than the Thai side. read more

Food is great as always. However, I am giving a 3 star because of the customer service this time around. When I walked in, I was not greeted. I stood at the counter waiting for someone to greet me. Another customer walks in AFTER me and the host greeted her before me and gave her a table right away. I understand I came at a busy time around dinner time but customer service should be better than this. Also, as a recommendation... because the weather has been colder, a sign should be put on the door for customers to keep the door close. Thai restaurant in a strip mall located next to 24 hour fitness. Plenty of parking. The layout of the restaurant is open concept with one big dining room area. Music playing quietly overhead, but it can get quite loud with talking. We went for dinner tonight and ordered the herb chicken, papaya salad Lao style, green curry with chicken and white rice, and mango sticky rice. The papaya salad was ok but too sweet and somehow the flavor was not right. Tip-on the papaya salad order down one spice level from what you might usually do. It gets spicy the more you eat. The herb chicken was pretty good. Fried chicken cubes with some herb flavoring. Dip is sriracha. I was thinking it would be better from the reviews and recommendations, but it was pretty normal? The green curry with chicken also was too sweet, and the chicken pieces were dry. I would not order again. Lastly, I was looking forward to the mango sticky rice. The flavoring was good, but the rice was on the hard side and not as sticky as I would have preferred. Overall, I'm not a big fan. Food was ok. Service was good. I ordered the Pad Kee Mow with Thai spicy and requested that the tofu be cut into smaller piece for an easier chew. The restaurant satisfied my request without any hesitation. I know that it takes more time to prepare the item with my request but the folks working at this restaurant did not hesitate to accommodate my special needs. Ordered the yellow curry and the green curry (Coffee toffee for deserrt): Yellow Curry: I ordered this one to be a 4 spicy but ended up tasting almost no spice to it. The dish itself was very sweet (did not expect this). The potatoes were a bit hard and should have been softer. Overall though, the curry was not bad but I would probably not get this one again. We were in the area around 3:30 PM and really wanted to try this place. They're closed from 3 PM to 5 PM. So we ended up ordering it for carry out that evening for dinner. We had the green curry, red curry, and herb chicken fried rice. Everything was simply divine. If anyone's ever had delicious Thai food and want to find restaurants that do it out right, then you need to try Sticky Rice. They nailed each dish! From the moment I walked into this place, the staff was friendly and quick to welcome me. The place is very clean and the food smelled great upon opening the door. I always start my Thai meals with Chicken Satay; their Chicken Satay did not disappoint. Again l, I will say; as I say in a lot of my reviews, service is important to me. I can dine many places, so if I chose to spend my hard earned dollars at a restaurant, I want great service. I received better that great service, the service was EXCELLENT. I am Lao and I grew up eating authentic Lao food. I can only cook some Lao food though because it can get very complicated with so many components to make up a single dish. So when i heard sticky rice was opening in my neck of the woods, I jumped with glee! I've been to sticky rice several times already and even had to walk away once because there was a wait on a Sunday afternoon. Service has always been great every time we went. There were some glitches in the beginning but that's expected since they were new and all. The restaurant is very clean and the decor is nice and crisp, not too much clutter going on. One of my fave thing about the restaurant is the hand drawn sticky rice paddy mural on the wall. It's what Laos is all about. Every single household in Laos eats sticky rice, so it's also a very fitting name for the restaurant. Now let's get to the food. My favorite dish is the nam kao, rice balls made of red curry, coconut and eggs, deep fried and crumbled before serving. You have a choice of adding "som moo" which is the equivalent of ham. Make sure you add it because it's not nam kao without som moo. They've got the crispness texture down and the right amount of sweet and sour flavors. Their kao poon (vermicelli noodles in a creamy curry broth), kao piet (handmade rice noodles in chicken broth), ladna and pad kee mao are all very delicious. Their wings, beef jerky and lao pork sausage (needs to be eaten with sticky rice) are also very tasty. I did not care much for their beef larb (beef salad) and jungle curry. I was disappointed that they did not get the larb right because it's one of the main dishes of Laos. One thing that I hope the restaurant will do in the future is have specials on different days, offering traditional/authentic dishes, such as boat noodle soup, sukiyaki and other variations of kaopoon. read more

I came for lunch to this Thai/Laotian restaurant. And with the name of the place being "Sticky Rice," it seems that Laotian cuisine is more emphasized than Thai, as it's more popular in the Laotian side of the border (somebody correct me if I'm wrong!). Either way, I think it's nice to see that there is a nicely decorated restaurant serving Laotian cuisine in Dallas. I tried two dishes, the Kao Poon chicken (coconut and chili vermicelli soup served with vegetables and chunks of chicken) and Nam Kao with cured pork added (lettuce wraps with crispy, coconut rice, and served with cilantro and chili peppers). The KAO POON was good and flavorful. The chicken pieces had skin on, which I liked, even though the chicken seem to be cooked/boiled in liquid. The meat is a little chewy as a result, which leads me to be undecided if I like this dish or not. It's also a very aromatic and well-spiced soup. Even though this dish had two chili peppers next to its name on the menu, it was not overwhelmingly spicy (thankfully) - but I had checked with the waitress to be sure. The NAM KAO, with cured pork added (you MUST do this), is worth every praise. You get a piece of a lettuce and wrap in the crispy rice with pork inside it, add anything else you want, and bite into it - and you'll just see what's the appeal. It's tasty, fresh, and sweet because of the coconut scent, and crispy because of the toasted rice, and savory because pork. It's a perfect melding of flavors. If you're eating by yourself, the Nam Kao would be enough since it's quite a large appetizer meant for sharing, and so this dish can work also as an entree. I'll be back to explore more of the Laotian dishes in the menu. read more

I love Thai food and have been to a lot of Thai Food restaurants, but this one is outstanding! My sisters and I all ordered different entries off the menu and they were all delicious! The Spring rolls (fresh rolls) were outstanding and made with the freshest ingredients. You also need to try the Joy ice cream sandwiches. It is ice cream sandwiched between macaroons. Sticky Rice is a Thai staple for residents living in the surrounding cities of Murphy, Plano, Wylie, and Parker. The quality is good and while prices have increased, that's the story pretty much anywhere these days. The only complaint I have is that their pak kee mow has a "burnt" smell and taste to it sometimes, especially if you cater it for a large crowd.. don't know why but it happens every time for us. This place is great! You know it's going to be good when there's a line out the door on Saturday night - glad I ordered ahead and picked up! The inside is nice - nothing especially fancy or noteworthy, but it's very clean and has good seating. The food though, man - I LOVE their Tom kha soup! The bowl portion is huge and the flavors are perfectly balanced. That and some veggie spring rolls are my jam. I've also had the green curry chicken and it's amazeballs!
