I also noticed similar trends/similar experiences of other patients so felt it my duty to include mine. The reception was a little impatient when I called in to book an appointment to look at available dates for Dr. Goldberg. In-person, all the receptionists seemed annoyed when we tried talking to them so my husband and I didn't feel very comfortable in the waiting area. At the conclusion of the exam, they advised us that they didn't take our vision insurance. This was a little upsetting, considering I had to fill out a form and provide them my insurance *before* they conducted the examination. It would have been nice to be informed that they didn't accept my insurance beforehand but since we were already there, I suppose they didn't want to lose out on earnings. We were billed a total of $638 for an annual exam ($319 each), which we paid out of pocket. No, I assure you that this did not include digital retinal screening or other advanced forms of technology. It was your typical vision exam. Considering the customer service and how average the examination was, I do not feel this merited the exorbitant price point. Although Dr. Goldberg was not involved in the incidents I mentioned above, I do still hold him accountable since this is his practice. The onus is on Dr. Goldberg to ensure that his staff are not lacking in integrity or alienating customers but it could also suggest that this type of behavior trickles from the top down. Either way, I do not advise on coming here.

For my last appointment, I messed up the schedule (no reminder from the office), I thought my appointment was half hour later than my actual appointment. While I was almost at Tysons Mall, I received a phone call from the front desk asking if I was going to be there. That's how I realized i put down the wrong appointment time. So I asked the front desk should I reschedule the appointment. Knowing I was already almost in the garage, the receptionist told me I can still come in. So I arrived 10 minutes late for my actual appointment. When I arrived, the technician promptly took me to do a quick examination and sent me to the room for Dr Son to arrive. Dr Son came in without any greetings, no facial expressions. I immediately apologized for being late. He had no response to my words. Immediately he started the vision test, but very obviously not as thorough as before. He finished the examination quicker than usual and told me my vision hasn't changed a bit. I told him I feel my current contacts can't see far enough, I wanted to adjust it more for driving. He told me I can see far enough according to the test he just did. Then walk out without a word. I looked at my watch, from the time I walked in until Dr. Son left the room, it's less than 10 minutes. For all the years I've seen Dr Son, this is the only time I had the schedule wrong and arrived late. I don't think I deserved the passive aggressive attitude from him. If I was really that late or caused any inconvenience for his time, they could simply reschedule me. Not going there again.

I have been getting my glasses (2 pair for $99 deal) at MyEyes in Falls Church for a few years now. I really like the customer service there. So, I gave them a call and asked how much an eye exam was with their doctor. I used to have eye insurance and went to MyEyeDr in Ballston (and hated them). I have Tricare now through my husband and there's no eye coverage. I was told if I had "normal vision", meaning no stigmatism or out of the norm issues then it would be $99 for both a contacts and glasses exam. Otherwise it would be $109 (I think...maybe $107? I think it was $109). They had to give me the number to Dr. Larson, his office is not combined with MyEyes' location. Dr. Larson is right next door. I called on a Saturday at 4 PM and got an appointment for Monday at 4:40 PM, which was awesome for my work schedule. When I arrived to my appointment I filled out paperwork and then waited. He was about 20 minutes late, but that's usual with any medical office. He was super nice, he didn't have a nurse or tech come out to get me, he himself did. I went back with him and he was super nice, very talkative, very personable. I recognized his accent and asked him where he was from. He asked me to guess and I said Boston. I was correct. Being from New England myself I said, "Well, no wonder I like you!" He was very thorough with my exam and very realistic. One of my eyes had changed a bit but the other was the same. He asked me if I wanted two different prescriptions or the same for both eyes to keep it simple. I asked if I would notice and he said it was such minute difference that probably not. I decided to stick to one prescription for both. I also had been having terrible dry eye problems with the contacts I was given and unable to change by MyEyeDr at my last eye exam over two years go. I hate paying for unneeded exams and I just wanted to switch back to the Acuvue Oasys that I loved and MyEyeDr wouldn't let me without an exam. I was so irritated that I just ordered another year's worth of the Biofinities online. Dr. Larson put me back in Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear and said if I had any problems with them I could always switch them out. When I went to check out the woman at the front desk gave me both my contacts and glasses prescription with ALL the needed information, no questions asked. I was impressed. I have had the WORST time in the past with MyEyeDr in Ballston because there is some measurement, I think it's the PD ,that you need for glasses and they wouldn't give it to me. I told them it's my information to have, my medical information and they finally reluctantly gave it to me. It's because they didn't want me ordering my glasses somewhere else. I was so happy to have no problems here, I'm very happy and will definitely go back to Dr. Larson....although in another two years....because like I said, I don't like having exams unless something changes and I can get the second year's contacts supply right at the 11 month mark from now without needing a new prescription. :)

I am beyond satisfied with Sterling Optical, Tysons Corner, VA. It is a smaller shop and therefore provides more personal service than the other larger stores. I ordered two pair of glasses. My daughter was with me and she also need one pair. Before we made our final decision we visited another eye glass business in the mall to compare. It was a no brainer. The other store was pathetic. Poor service, poor supply of frames and sales people that were uninterested and rude. We were treated as though we were bothering them by simply walking into the store. It was so bad that I contacted their District Manager to let them know how much $$$ they lost from our purchase. Back at Sterling, I worked with John. John is very professional, yet personable. He truly cares about customer satisfaction. I have very expense lenses and a few months after I purchased my glasses I noticed a small scratch on one lens. I was so upset!!! I went back to the store and showed John. he took care of my problem and went out of his way to help cover the cost of the replacement. I was absolutely amazed. I agree with Del. It is very rare to find people who are professional, competent and possess interpersonal skills. if you need glasses .... do yourself a favor and visit Sterling Optical and ask for John. He is a true asset to their company. I will return when I need my next pair of eye glasses. I cannot speak for those who wrote bad reviews, but all I can think of is it must have been before they hired the staff they now have employed! Great job John!!!! read more

I've been dealing with Sterling Optical since 1993 -- over 20 years. I've worn only Silhouettes (regular & sunglasses, both with progressive lenses, & computer glasses) for the past 15 years. I have worked with Melissa Morales & John Mathis over the past year & have found them very professional. I've had problems due to eye surgeries & have dropped by for adjustments as well to purchase new lenses & temple pieces. Service has been exceptional. John & Melissa always remember me -- & neither runs to the back when I walk into the store (a testimony to their patience)! I've found Sterling stands behind its product & services. They've eaten the cost of repairs in the past & always ensure I get every discount available when I order from them. I refuse to see another vendor. I've read the other reviews here & realize different people might have different experiences at times. Mine, however, have been overwhelmingly positive! I just had a 4-year old (ancient in eyeglasses years btw) pair of Warby Parker wide-sized eyeglasses called the Aubrey that I needed some work done on. I was greeted by a friendly lady whose name, sadly, I did not get despite the fact that she was so cool about bantering and making friendly chit chat. She also wore eyeglasses but other than that I'm sad that I can't be more specific. I told her that I needed some work done on my Aubrey and she proceeded to check me in. I was especially appreciative of her patience while I tried to figure out which one of my many email addresses was associated with the store. So anyway, she checked me in and then I just chilled on one of the benches with my mom for a short wait until Adam fetched me. He was super friendly and also down for chit chatting. I especially appreciated how cool he was with my awkwardly hilarious squinting at him and everyone and everything else while he worked on my eyeglasses -- yeah, my vision is unhinged. Lol. Anyway, this particular Warby Parker store had a great, welcoming vibe. I love the concept of checking in the customers and I love that there are benches where you can relax while waiting. Warby Parker is super modern in the way they do eyeglass retail. Love.

And the store was basically empty, so they were literally just standing in the middle staring at their phones. I asked one lady a question, and she did answer it. But that was that. Not even a follow-up "do you need anything else?" We left after maybe 15 minutes of looking around, and they didn't even say goodbye. Weird. ‍

The cost for me is not too much different from chain stores, as I have a complex prescription. I am happy to spend a bit more to get the correct fitting for progressives. My current glasses are the thinnest lenses I have had in a long time despite my high index prescription. They use Hoya lenses which are superior to the ones I have gotten from LC. Marie has been very personable and professional and always gets me a great pair of glasses. They usually have a sale going on ( buy 1 get 50% second pair). Great if you get glasses and sunglasses together.

They are friendly, welcoming, and honest, and the office I visited was the nicest optical shop I have ever seen, and I have been wearing eyeglasses for almost 50 years. I had lost faith in my previous opticians' office due to significant staff turnover there over the past few years; the apparent lack of experience of their workers had become highly concerning. Marie and Jimmie, by contrast, have a ton of experience, which is why I was so happy to find them. They are true professionals.

Thank you Nia, Chris, Dan and Vanessa for an amazing office visit. I would be here chatting and laughing if I didn't have to work during the day. A really fun bunch that made the normal visit so much more pleasant.

I was told it would be two weeks before the glasses would be ready. I waited until the 20th of June, hearing nothing and then called. A pleasant young woman informed me that I had been texted on June 1. I checked my texts; she checked the number. I had received no text. She said she would let the manager know. I go to pick up the glasses on June 23rd at 4:30 p.m. The store is closed with a sign on the door "Lunch break. Back in 30 minutes." I saw someone see me, and then bolt to the back. As I had walked a way to get to the store, I took a time stamped picture of the sign, and waited. The individual values their lunch break. At 5:02, they opened the door, and asked my business. I will not ever return.

Very bizarre experience with this shady practice. I purchased a new pair of Oakley glasses frames…read moreonline and dropped them off at Modern Optometry to have lens created and inserted into the frames. I paid over $300 for this process. Two weeks later, I received a phone call informing me that their lab BROKE the glasses frames. I asked how to remedy the situation and was informed that they were not responsible for the broken frames because I signed a waiver. Huh? So, essentially, I was out of luck and out of a new pair of beautiful glasses frames. The sales person (Amanda?) said she would email pictures of the broken frames. Two weeks went by and still no pictures. I called again and spoke to this sales person, and she informed me (in a very awkward manner) that she received "undeliverable" messages from my email address (which I've had for over 10 years.) So, I asked her to email the pictures to my work email address...and to this day, still NO pictures. She ended up refunding me the $300 for lens insertion. However, I am out a pair of new glasses frames without any real proof they were broken. What happened to my glasses frames? Did they lose them? Did somebody steal them? Totally unacceptable, and very shady business practices. I would not recommend this store.
