I've been using Optometrist offices next to Lens Crafters for many years. This practice is located in Tysons Corner ( McLean, VA). I've patronized this office twice. I think this office is my favorite. I never have to wait. The front desk staff are organized, courteous, and professional. I was greeted by a receptionist and the assistant. They assistant performs a few eye tests before doctor comes in. She explained the testing process. One small complaint, I had to ask her if I was getting the a "glaucoma test". She said yes. Perhaps glaucoma tests are included as part of regular exam unlike in the past (at different doctor offices) I opted for the extra test. I was in and out within 15 or 20 min. The LensCrafters staff was waiting for me and escorted me next door to their store. This was great because some locations are so busy it takes a while to get someone to help you. Overall- a relaxing and seamless experience! I'd recommend this practice. read more

Awful eye doctor, uses antiquated technology and when I questioned the optometrist on my contact lens fitting she arbitrarily adjusted the prescription from -3.5 to -3 without any explanations. Unfortunately Dr. Son did not understand my issue and gave me the wrong prescription. I am near sighted and needed help with that but he focused on the fact that I spend too much time in front of screens and gave me a prescription to wear only when I'm looking at things close up. Dr. Son was very helpful in my quest to correct my vision. They were super courteous in the office, and very flexible in terms of scheduling my appointment. I originally had an appt scheduled for 5:30, but when I walked in at 4, they were able to squeeze me in. He was quick and efficient in his exam, and the assistant he had was very friendly and helpful as well. He explained what he was writing the prescription for, and addressed the concerns that I have. He was very cordial, although i could tell that he's been doing this for a long time because he was super quick (almost a little brusque, but always very friendly). The folks in the Lenscrafters side were also very helpful and friendly, and SUPER patient as I spent close to an hr picking out frames. I have a high prescription and am very selective about which optometrists I see (optometrists with bad bedside manners have in the past laughed at my very strong RX--NOT COOL). However, last year I switched to a new vision plan and I didn't have many choices about which eye doctors I could see. So I just went with whatever was in network, and I saw Dr. Nguyen at this practice, and she was fine. The front desk was courteous and effective, and I received my contacts quickly. This year, I saw Dr. Son, mainly because I didn't think Dr. Nguyen was super personable (not a big deal. she did her job competently, and I would've been fine going back to her). Dr. Son was fantastic. He did the exam quickly and competently, and he was very sweet to my young daughter who accompanied me to the exam. The most important aspect of this office is how flexible and accommodating they have been in getting me my contacts ASAP. I wear daily contacts, and I waited until the last minute to get my new ones (my own stupid fault--I need to plan better!). They got me an appointment before the new year, were super nice and accommodating when I was very late for my appointment (damn you tysons traffic!), and they very quickly had the contacts shipped to their office when there was a delay in having them shipped to my home due to the weather. Anyone seeking a fantastic Optometrist, Tyson;s Eye Care is the place. Their office is located inside of Tyson's Corner Mall, next Bloomingdales on the lower level. It is literally the first 'store' located on the right side of the mall once exiting Bloomingdales. Dr. Christopher Son is fabulous and provides top-quality service. I, as well as my entire family, have been his patient for over 15-years. He is friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable in his expertise. He spends quality time with every patient, never making it seems as though he is rushing to get you out the door. He never cuts corners and has always been able to identify an issue, should one be present. Also, as he performs the exams, he takes the time to explain what he is doing and why it is necessary. The staff has always been courteous and professional, always ensuring you are seen by the Doctor in the quickest time possible. They are also very helpful, knowledgable and never rush a patient when conducting a contact fitting. The office (waiting room, exam rooms, etc.) are always maintained and clean. They also provide up-to-date magazines and reading material in the waiting room, which is always organized and clean as well. He is also wonderful with children (I was a child when I first began seeing Dr. Son), taking extra care to ensure the child is comfortable and not intimidated by the exam equipment. He has a a great and exciting way of explaining the equipment and tests he performs for the children. The only complaints i have ever had with this practice is; 1. The parking, and 2. The LensCrafters located next door. 1. Parking at Tyson's is "mission impossible" the way it is and with the new additions and construction, only made more confusing. The mall is now HUGE and if parked in the wrong lot, you'll essentially have your cardio done for the day by the time you get to the doctor's office. Anyone going specifically for an eye appointment, park in the Bloomingdales garage. For some reason, which is a good one, I have never had an issue with finding decent parking in this garage. It also has direct access out of the mall and onto Route 7. 2. Although i love Dr. Son, I cannot stand the LensCrafters, located next to the the Eye Center. I have never had a good experience in purchasing frames and having my prescription filled. Every time i have walked into this store I have been ignored (this has even happened when i was the only customer in the store!). On several occasions, I was still not acknowledged or offered assistance but was followed and watched like a hawk as I browsed and tried on different frames. The staff definitely stereotypes as there have also been several occasions in which i asked if i could try on a pair of frames that were locked in a glass case (obviously, the more expensive ones). My request was refused with the tactic of "Oh, I think these (pointing to the cheaper sets of frames) would suit you much better..." Another issue is wen a staff member does finally sit you down to take your measurements, etc., they are pre-ocuppied by either socializing with other staff members, checking their phones and rushing through your session. There have actually been several times when I have gone to pick up my completed glasses and when I proceeded to try them on, they did not fit due to being measured incorrectly. When I complained, I was told there was nothing they could do about it and if I wanted them to be fixed, I would have to pay for the service. Sorry, but I don't think my head grew 4-inches over one week nor did my eyes, nose or ears change position either. The only positive of this location is their frame collections. I have experienced several other unfortunate experiences with this LensCrafters location, which I will save for their own review. All the reception girls had green, blue or grey eyes. Pretty cool. Dr. Son was a second opinion doctor for me at Tysons Corner Center. Basically, I got a bad prescription and service experience from the doctor next to Sterling Optical on the upper level and came to Dr. Son, on the lower level by Lenscrafters, to correct my prescription! I have been wearing glasses my whole life (almost) so I KNOW when I can and can't see. Don't tell me that I'll just 'get used to it' ew! Bad doctors suck! I am very dissatisfied with my experience with this clinic. I attempted to make an appt for an eye exa m with with Dr Judith Zellers whom I have been seeing for several years for contacts, glasses, sun glasses,and designer frames. Since I called the same phone number for Dr Zellers I was very surprised that Tyson had taken over, but thought she must have trusted these folks to allow them to not only buy her location but to retain her telephone number. I made an appt and went in was again surprised that even though they kept the telephone number yet they had no records of her patients. I decided to go ahead and redo all the required paperwork and have an exam for both prescription glasses as well as contact lenses. The Dr began by telling me that my eyes were extremely damaged and that I must go for 2-3 months of not wearing contact lenses so that my eyes can heal. She also said that I could not wear an extended wear lense ever again ( I have been wearing this type for over 30 years) And that I must wear a daily lense. This is NOT what I wanted to do and I questioned her extensively about alternatives such as a weekly or bi monthly variety and she was adamant that it would not be a possibility for me. Then I was told that I could no longer get the tinted lenses for daily wear. Bottom line was she sold me a different brand of lense, and in a different color. After giving my eyes a break from contacts for several months I then started to wear the lenses I had bought from Tyson. I pretty quickly decided that they were not going to work, I hated the color, and I could not see clearly and I did not like the daily removal factor. After dealing with this and feeling frustrated I made an appt with a highly regarded eye surgeon for a second opinion. I finally was able to see Dr Groom and when I explained what the Tyson Eye Clinic person Had told me what was wrong with my eyes, she said "yes, you have a little bit of that, ( blood vessels on the surface) but it is not a problem. She said "you have healthy eyes" she asked to see the contact lenses I had purchased as well as the glasses I had bought at the same time. She informed me that the prescription I needed was different than what Tyson prescribed and also let me know that I had just the start of cataracts which Tyson never mentioned. she also gave me a new prescription for tinted extended wear lenses. In fairness to Tyson she said that she would "prefer" that I take them out at night. I was still willing to give Tyson the benefit of the doubt thinking that I just didn't get the very best exam and was going to let it go. I did however still have 4 unopened boxes of lenses that I had purchased from them so I called and asked to return them since I couldn't have worn them if I wanted to do to the incorrect prescription. Today I was told that they decided too much time had taken place since my purchase (7 months) 3 months of recommended abstinence from wearing, leaving a 4 month time lapse to try the lenses, and deciding to see an expert and making and attending that new appt. I spent in excess of $1000.00 at Tyson, the return of my unopened lenses came to roughly $166.00. When I asked to speak with the owner of the business and was told oh no, that's not how we do things......."really?" I will personally never do business with them, nor will I recommend them. An Owner that refuses to speak with his not just customers, but his patients, is smarmy at best. Proceed with caution! read more

I've used this office twice for my annual eye exams and contacts stuff. I've never seen Dr. Son himself, but the Doctors I've had experience with were both very nice, knowledgeable and helpful. I've never had any issues getting a new prescription for my glasses or contacts here. I'm always impressed with how quickly they can schedule me. I work in D.C., but live near Tysons, so I need an appointment either on the weekends, or a week night. These guys stay open till 8 pm Monday through Sunday, which makes them really appealing to a working stiff like me.
