I've eaten here twice because of the convenience. The pizza crust was over cooked, it would have been amazing if the crust was not burnt. The pasta was spicy, which I did not expect. You get more seafood than pasta, but honestly, the seafood did not taste fresh. I want to try the waffles next. The restaurant is a a cute concept. They sell Italian food and waffles. It is a weird set up because they walk you through one side and have you walk through people eating to take you to the other side of the restaurant to sit, instead of just having the other door accessible. The staff was friendly and my service was quick both times I visited. I love their outdoor seating. There is a 6% gratuity added to all checks, which was surprising to me because I was eating alone and the 6% gratuity was not in place the last time I had eaten here. Cute, rustic flavor with locally sourced ingredients, Stellina is a great evening treat. The staff are lowkey, but attentive, which is the perfect complement to a casual eatery. The squid pasta was delicious, don't be discouraged by the color! The canola were simple and delicious. The pizza was baked perfectly, with a sweet sauce complimented by herbs and mozzarella. I'm at a conference in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood and what I thought was a dinner reception turned out to be more hors d'oeuvres. It was getting late, I was not up to going back out and I didn't want to eat at a hotel restaurant, preferring to find local spots whenever I can. Pizza is one of my top comfort foods, so I looked for a local delivery and found Stellina on Uber Eats. Oh my, this was the move. Based on other diners' recommendations I went with the Cacio Pepe pizza. It's the Neapolitan dough, perfectly light yet still crispy with a perfect amount of char, that makes this pizza. The cheese is also delicious, high-quality cheese with balls of mozzarella on top. And they did not skimp on the pepper in this Cacio Pepe. Incredibly good. I ordered a San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa and was intrigued by a menu item under Desserts that said, simply, chocolate hazelnut side for only two dollars. I thought it might be a piece of chocolate but it turned out to be a delectable cup of Nutella dip. I used it to dip the crust of my pizza for an easy, sublime dessert for barely any upcharge. I can't speak to the vibes of this place as I didn't go in person but their website makes it clear they have an outdoor patio for summer which is nice. Service I can rate highly because they had my order ready in an absolute heartbeat. One small bit of feedback I would give is that there weren't any utensils included in my order, and since I'm at a hotel I didn't have any available. I simply tore the pizza which worked fine with this type of crust. The pizza was so delicious though that I can't bring myself to deduct anything in my rating for this. read more

I've heard so many great things about Stellina and I was really excited to check it out with some friends. I love Neapolitan style pizza and there's definitely didn't disappoint. We split a Margherita as well as a picante. Beware! the picante definitely packs a punch in terms of spiciness. The margherita was fresh and cheesy... Everything you want a Margherita pizza to be. The service was a little bit all over the place. I ordered a drink that never came, and we had to remind them about things a few times. But they were friendly and working as quickly as possible. The brussels sprouts and the Caprese salad I think were the best things we ate the whole night. 3.5 stars! Came to Stellina around 8pm on a Thursday with a few friends. Was able to grab a table easily. Staff were really friendly and even moved us to a bigger table (a booth) when space opened up. To drink I had the Stellina Spritz -- basically an Aperol spritz, it was delicious! To order we started with the brussels sprouts, calamari, and caprese salad. The calamari was a little lackluster -- not much flavor. The brussels weren't bad but could've been more flavorful. The caprese salad was quite tasty and definitely our best app! For our main we split the picante pizza and the margarita. The picante was WAY too spicy for me I actually couldn't eat it. I wrongly assumed it would be lightly spiced but it was SPICY. Flavor was good but definitely prepare for some spice. The margarita was tasty, the best part was the crust. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert and it was a bust. It tasted frozen burnt or like it had been sitting out for some time -- dry and stale. If metropolitan style pizza is your thing you'll like Stellina. I enjoyed the pizza but wasn't blown away and probably had higher expectation due to so many great reviews I've heard and the Michelin star but it was just okay for me. My husband and I came here for a date night. It's a cozy pizza place that looks like a classic counter service style restaurant but is actually sit down with servers. From the moment we walked in, the waitress treated us like we were an inconvenience. She made it clear we weren't welcome. No greeting, no smile, not even basic courtesy. Just immediate attitude and eye rolls like we were ruining her day by showing up. She spoke to us with a tone that bordered on hostile, gave short, passive-aggressive responses, and made zero effort to be accommodating. It wasn't like the place was slammed either it was completely empty, which now makes total sense. With service like that, I'm surprised the doors are still open. None of us are picky or demanding, but basic human decency shouldn't be too much to ask. If you love pizza with chewy, warm crust, go to Stellina. Their second location, this one is in a building with a giant "Waffle Shop" sign. (When they moved into the building, the sign was required to stay.) Because of the quirky waffle sign, this is the only location of Stellina that offers a waffle menu. That menu includes a classic waffle, fried chicken and waffles, a hamburger with waffles, a savory sausage waffle, and a S'more waffle. Outside of the waffle menu, they have all their usual suspects- pizzas, pastas, cocktails, etc. Since I am a creature of habit, I always get the "Piccante" pizza with spice sausage, spicy soppressata, and nduja jam. To drink, I tried the passion fruit lemonade and it was refreshing on a hot day. If you love quality Italian in a fun environment, go here. The server/ bartender was very helpful. However, the waffle were frozen waffle, not order to make one. For a place to serve waffle, they should have made them fresh and serve. The berries were not fresh either. For a price with forced service charge, I expected the better food. If the server was not helpful, I would have given that place "one star". Okay, this place is brand new so here is my newbie food spot review of the week. First of all, shout out to Angel and Maritza for providing such AMAZING customer service and being warm and welcoming! I truly appreciate that they were consistent with their hospitality from start to finish. Atmosphere: I honestly love that it feels like a 50s diner but is in modern day DC. The facility was clean and the color scheme made me feel as if I wanted to order a soda pop lol beautiful setting. Food: I would say that it is a little pricey, meals start at $16 up to $18 and includes standard waffles and other paired items. I decided on waffles and bacon with sausage with a side of bourbon syrup. The waffles were SO SO SO GOOD! Buttery and soft and beyond filling: I had 3 and only ate 2. Paired with the bourbon syrup which offered a splash of sweet and tangy...this was a perfect 10!!! I didn't enjoy the bacon and sausage, the bacon was toooooooo crispy for me and the sausage had an odd taste which I didn't like at all. I didn't order any beverage but would be back to try their coffee with the waffles. My only thing about this place is that I wished that the menu allowed for waffles in order to satisfy those who may not eat other paired items but still wish to enjoy the waffles without paying full price. That's where I think the pricing around this area falls short and takes away from your desire to make this a frequent food spot and instead one that you can visit once in a while...if your budget allows. So glad Stellina has made it's way to Mt Vernon Triangle area of DC! It's located in the old waffle shop and I love how they kept the diner feel and added waffles to their menu to connect to the waffle shop history. My friends and I had the cacio e Pepe pizza, cotto & funghi pizza, arancini, Brussel sprouts, salumi e formaggi, and the stracciatella waffle. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and the arancini and cotto & funghi pizza shouldn't be missed. As for the cacio e Pepe pizza, it was good, but I prefer their cacio e Pepe pasta more. The Salumi e formaggi is their version of a charcuterie board and I'd probably not get it again. It was pricy for what it was and we didn't receive a lot of what was listed under it like the fig cake and walnuts? I asked about the fig cake and the server didn't even know since she said no one ever ordered the board. I ordered the Chitarra di Pesce for takeout & I was blown away!!! I'm allergic to gluten & thankfully they had the option to switch out the squid ink for gluten free pasta. The newest Stellina restaurant is at 5th & K. The food is delicious. The bar side is festive, fun and a bit noisy when crowded. The other side is smaller and quieter. You can scan a bar code at your table and order off of the app. If you need help ordering, someone can help on one of the nearby screens. Don't order everything at once, or it will all arrive together. Start with your appetizer and pace when you order. The pizza is yummy. The pasta is delicious. The salad looks and tastes great. The fried artichokes are insanely tasty. The fried donuts were sweet and went well with the Nutella spread. Hubby enjoyed the squid ink pasta. If you are wondering why there is a waffle shop sign, the building owner used to run the Waffle Shop when it was on 10th street. Parking across the street is expensive. The food here is very fresh, I could tell that the pizza was fresh-fired in the oven. The toppings were also good quality. Pizza depicted is Cacio & Pepe pizza add prosciutto. The prosciutto is placed on top after the pizza is baked. The server presented the pizza and cut it for us which was a nice personalized touch. The mozzarella sticks were $15 for 4, average sized mozz sticks. They used fresh high quality mozz and the crunch was asmr worthy with great cheese pull, but for the size of the sticks, $15 is a little much for only 4 standard sized sticks. Only three are pictured because one had been eaten already. The sauce was cold, not room temperature, cold. It was a zesty tomato sauce. We have been waiting to try Stellina and it's definitely worth the hype! For drinks we ordered the Stellina Spritz and Peppino - both were light and refreshing! For food we started with the Cuoppo Misto, a unique appetizer pairing Stellina's house made chips with fried seafood and veggies with a flavorful tomato sauce on the side! This was a perfect start to our meal and was a large portion! For pizzas, we tried the Cacio & Pepe and Amatriciana! The Cacio & Pepe is a delicious white pizza with an adequate layer of shredded mozzarella and the toasted black pepper added some additional flavor. We also enjoyed the Amatriciana, a red sauce pizza with guanciale, red onions, & cheese! Both pizzas had a doughy crust and are great for sharing! We also got two solid pasta dishes: Paccheri All' Avellinese and Chittara Di Pesce! The homemade paccheri's beef and veal ragù sauce was so delicious and a bit spicy! We were very impressed with how much seafood is packed in the chitarra dish and the shrimp, calamari, octopus, and scallops were cooked to perfection! Lastly, don't skip the Bomboloni (fried donuts with a hazelnut chocolate inside)! These are massive and SO yummy! Our server was quick to notice I was cold and moved us to a warmer table further from the door. There are booth type tables on one side of the restaurant and two tops on the other side. There's an added 20% service charge to offset rising costs but our server said that counted as a tip as well, but feel free to add additional tip.
