Several years ago, Airco installed a 3-ton variable-speed system in a house that had previously had a 2-ton unit (and a history of trouble keeping cool). After about a year of operation, our tenants reported mold in the ducts, high humidity, and a short-cycling unit. Our investigation found that the installer, Stuart, had never pulled a permit for the work. I want to be candid: it took a negative Yelp review to get Airco's attention. Jeremy reached out, recommended we upsize the ductwork, offered a very fair price, and agreed to close out the permits. I'm slow to trust, so I got second and third opinions from other HVAC companies -- they confirmed the system size was correct for the house, and that the ductwork should have been upsized at the original install. My own Manual J calculations agreed with Jeremy's. Notably, Jeremy was the only installer I could find who was actually willing to run a Manual J. He also followed through on pulling permits and getting the city inspection scheduled. Airco worked to schedule the new duct installation during the one week we'd be in town -- during peak season, no less -- and their crew moved fast and stayed professional, which I appreciated given how brutal a Texas attic is this time of year. A few days in, the system is no longer short-cycling, and indoor humidity has dropped to about 63%. Still a touch higher than ideal, but we think we can chase the rest of it down -- possibly window seals, possibly fan settings or duct leakage. I was impressed enough that I also used Airco for a plumbing call this week.

They've got you over a barrel when they come out and start throwing parts. This was an install of a drop in kitchen sink and faucet. He told me his hourly rate was 135 bucks. I was expecting to spend about 400 maybe 500. The final bill was 850. I feel I was overcharged on both the parts and labor. He charged me starting 45 min before he got there but still included a "truck charge." The removal and replace of the sink took 2 hours. To me the "clock" starts on the labor at the agreed upon arrival time. When I'm getting charged 439(!) bucks for parts on top of the sink and faucet itself, that extra charge for labor is quite unwelcome. I mean the sink and faucet itself that were "nice" were like 500 bucks. So almost that again just in parts. ‍ His answer in general as I look at these reviews is that he buys his parts from a plumber supply not Home Depot etc. I would have to research each individual part to see if its price point is "fair". A perusal of solid brass fittings and pvc p traps on the Lowe's site shows the price I paid was about doubled. He acted quite insulted that I wouldn't know just how much better his parts were and implied they were all but unavailable at big box stores. literally doubling what I expected to pay was quite a shock to say the least. Project Background I recently purchased an older home, full of charm and distinctive bathrooms. However, I encountered a leak in the master shower that required the p-trap under the shower drain to be replaced before new tile work could be completed. My concern was that reconnecting the new p-trap to the antique cast iron drains in the foundation might cause the cast iron to crumble. Chris F.'s Approach and Solutions Chris came to the rescue, using a camera down the drain to evaluate the situation. He explained the difference between what was probable and what was possible, providing two bids: one for the probable good case and one for the possible problem case. Having used Chris before with excellent results, I trusted his methods, which are always the least intrusive and focused on effective access. In the worst-case scenario, Chris would need to cut and excavate a 2' x 2' hole in the foundation around the shower drain, then tunnel no more than five feet under the foundation from that access point to secure a solid connection to the iron drainpipe. In the best-case scenario, he would only need to excavate a 2' x 2' hole around the shower drain to replace and secure the new p-trap. He also showed me pictures of his past work for reassurance. Successful Outcome Fortunately, the best-case and probable case prevailed. While fixing the p-trap, Chris also discovered an unrelated drain leak under the foundation, which he repaired at no extra charge. I felt I received excellent value for the service provided. Professionalism and Work Quality Chris left the work site clean, as he has always done in the past. He and his co-worker collaborated well, using a small and quiet jackhammer designed specifically for plumbing foundation work. The new drain looks beautiful, and I can confidently proceed with the new tile work, knowing that the unseen part of the shower is sound and affordable. I was looking to replace my entire AC system which is why it's important to find the best in the business and rated the best. It's also important to find more than one 5* business so you can get a better picture and quotes for such an expensive endeavor which I found helpful. If you're going to go all the way with such an expense, it's best to educate yourself as much as possible, and there's lots of YouTube videos on AC repair and replacement which you should watch prior to making that decision. You really need to be an informed and educated customer or you might find yourself with an inferior or wrong system. I found that certain AC companies want the steer you to certain brands they represent, so you may wish to decide on a brand first. I found that the Carrier Infiniti system with its very high seer rating and variable speed was the perfect choice. More details on this system in the photos below. If you live in a two-story house like mine, you can expect the price to be much greater due to the fact that you have dampeners which will need to be fixed or replaced which greatly adds to the bill. As for my AC, it was over 20 years old, but still chugging along. However, I knew there was going to be new mandates in 2025 which would greatly add to the expense of AC replacement such as a new refrigerant which is slightly flammable called Puranovance. I replaced my old R22 compressor with the new R-410a which is still readily available, but will eventually be phased out many years from now. I also mistakenly thought you'd get a good deal by replacing it during the cool months, but apparently a lot of people were doing what I was doing so no break in the price. As a matter fact, the date of manufacture of my new Infiniti compressor was only just a couple weeks old before it was installed. After some back-and-forth on pricing, we finally decided on a date of installation. Carl and his crew showed up and had everything installed within six hours and hauled off the old units. We still needed some troubleshooting in order to dial-in the thermostats functioning properly, but everything works perfectly now and the temperature remains exactly as you set it throughout the house. Both the compressor and the blower motor are incredibly quiet. Since I knew I needed this replacement at some point, I had enough money in the bank to cut a check for the job. When you sign up for Carl's service, you get Carl in the equation. Check out the photos below which show you the equipment, specs and the pricing. Update: After 2 weeks the plenum did separate, but I was able to use foil tape to close up the 8" gap. Personally, I think a 30 day check up would be a good idea not just for Carl, but anyone who gets this kind of installation from whatever company you choose.

With a ton of experience doing this kind of install, Marcus helped out so much that I was pretty much able to handle coordination of the main pieces and personnel without needing to hire anyone else. He did a great job making the vision come alive and was transparent with any problems that arises (and importantly fixing them when necessary). He was friendly, fair with pricing, and also very quick-- framing and installation took only 2 separate, spread out days (to allow for drywalling and parts arrival in between). My personal experience with him in terms of communication was excellent, but I also purposefully avoided peak summer season so as not to catch him at a busy time. Discovered that my water heater was leaking around 11:30pm on Thursday night. I knew it was on its last leg. Had been well over 10 years since it had been replaced and it had a good run. However, I knew nada about water heaters, so I looked up online about how to shut it off ( mine was an 40 gallon gas ) and how to drain it. Got done mopping up garage (thank god it was in the garage) and moving everything around 1:30am and I needed a shower. So I took the coldest damn shower before I went to bed. I looked up water heaters and plumbers And came across one that was highly recommended but so much so that he was booked. He gave me a couple referrals and that is how I found Eligio with Stellar Plumbing. I called him at 8am on Friday morning and got his voicemail, and I thought, "Great. I'll probably hear back from him in the late afternoon." I was so wrong bc before I had even finished leaving my message with him, he was calling me back on call waiting. We chatted about my issue and pricing and brands, and Eligio stated he would be at my house around 10am with all the stuff to do the job. I was elated. I thought I would be without hot water for days and this guy showed up on time ( in the pouring rain) at a moments notice. We chatted while he worked and I bent his ear about plumbing, and he was very friendly and professional and answered all my questions. He even checked my gas stove that I was concerned about. He got my water heater up and running in a few hours and hauled away the old one and cleaned up the site. He even made me turn it on by showing me how to light the pilot and what settings to run it at, and explained how and when to drain it. Eligio is a pro and warrantied his labor for 2 years as well as gave me a very fair price for the work that was needed to bring my house up to code. I was astonished how quickly my major problem was fixed. My new water heater is up and running great and saving me money being energy efficient. I called Stellar Plumbing to check out the plumbing in the bathroom of our new "flipped" house. Mr. Abel came to the house right away to take a look at the situation. He first worked to understand the plumbing system at the house and asked questions regarding our use of the bathtub and shower to fully understand the depth and extent of the problem. From there, he worked methodically to isolate the leak. Along the way, he took the time to fully explain his strategy to eliminate various factors that could have been contributing to or creating the leak. He was also accessible and prompt in replying to questions via text or phone. Mr. Abel remained focused and friendly even when interacting with two children after working many hours on the job and even provided the contact information for a person to address the mold that is now growing in and around the bathroom walls. Earlier this week, I ran into some troubles with my water heater. After getting a referral from another plumber, I contacted Eligio at Stellar Plumbing on Friday morning. Sight unseen, he gave me a best guess estimate of what it would cost to replace my busted water heater and set up an appointment for Saturday morning. He offered to come earlier after his schedule opened up on Friday afternoon, but we stuck with Saturday morning since that worked better for my schedule. Eligio arrived the next morning and had the new water heater installed within a couple hours. He was very friendly, professional and helpful through the process. He answered any questions I had about the new heater and made sure everything was working correctly before giving me an invoice. I'd like to thank Stellar Plumbing for their professionalism, courtesy, and fair prices. Our water softener went out and found that it had been "disintegrating" and dispersed particles throughout our water supply and blocked all of our faucets, toilets, everything! Abel arrived on time and went way above and beyond what I had ever expected. Abel saved the day!!! Other plumbers wanted to do destructive and very expensive things to solve our leak in a water line in the slab, like randomly jackhammering my slab. I called Stellar Plumbing after getting disastrous and expensive news from other companies....and they were at my house in an hour and a half. Abel was totally amazing! He came up with a work around that was so much less destructive and a LOT cheaper than the other plumbers we talked to. He came back the next day, hit it out of the park and our water was back on!!! I reached out to Eligio on a Saturday at about 6:45 after I had made a bone headed move and broke an external water pipe. He picked up and walked me through how to at least seal the break. He then came out on Sunday afternoon to cap off the broken pipe as I was not able to do so. On monday, he came out to completely repair the damage i had done. So after I created a complete mess on Saturday, it was fixed and back to good Monday afternoon for about half what I expected the repair bill to be. Great work. very reliable. I had used stellar plumbing a couple years back and received good service. For this most recent call, I was told someone would be out at 3:30, and at 5:30 i called asking if they were still coming. They ended up sending someone else to check a couple thing, but were ill prepared for the problems i was having. they came back the following morning to find a major plug in an outside pipe. The company said they needed to rent a camera so they could investigate further. 48 hours passed with no correspondence. He is confused about the type of water line I have and didn't demonstrate a basic understanding of the differences between PEX-A and PEX-B. He then quoted me $850 in labor alone to cut out a small section of PEX and install the valve--even though I would be providing the Moen Flo device myself. To "justify the price", he claimed the system would need to be "programmed," but my own research shows that the Moen Flo does not require any special programming during installation. Charging that much for a job that should take well under an hour felt unreasonable and misleading. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a plumber, and STAY FAR AWAY

Treated poorly and egregiously overcharged by their crew, and there was nobody I could reach to talk about it that seemed to care, listen or want to try and help. After personally finding a small water leak outside our home, and digging a large hole around the source of a small outside water leak (small 1" elbow pipe coming out of the house - my video attached), I recommended that my girlfriend call Good Flow Plumbing. After a few attempts to reach them, she left a message during business hours, then finally connected via text and booked an appointment (a few days out). On the appointment date, their crew arrived late, outside their 4 hour arrival window. The good news; they fixed the leak, and did so in only 38 minutes! And that should be our happy ending - right? Unfortunately for us, not a happy ending. This is the point where they presented my girlfriend with a bill for nearly $500 for their "time and materials". She asked how a 30 min job could be so expensive, (she was told to expect $200 max), and they said "digging holes are hard, and they cost more money." Of course this is nonsense, the hole was already dug, I dug it myself. Any extra digging, including the actual water leak fix was an elapsed grand total of 38 minutes. Who charges $500 for 30 minutes of work? Are there plumbers in Austin charging $1,000 an hour now? Is there some sort of hazard pay for using a shovel that I should be aware of? They tried to justify an inflated price to my girlfriend assuming she wouldn't know the difference. She did know the difference, but decided not to push back any further as she was home alone, and already feeling uncomfortable by the two mens presence, so she paid the bill when they asked her to pay. When I returned home from Base, she relayed the story to me, and I said I would call their office and speak to management to let them know how their crew made her feel, and address the overcharge. Well, after repeated attempts to reach anyone at their office, I finally connected via text message, and eventually moved to a phone call. To my dismay, the lady who took the call (name starts with a J) was argumentative, defensive, and did not care to hear what I had to say nor help in any way. The sad part; I previously referred Good Flow Plumbing to many friends in Austin, and cited their company as some of the best, most honest plumbers out there -- not anymore. I am currently shopping for another plumbing contractor to send my friends, family and personal business to. I don't get why anyone would be so shortsighted. Okay, so now they have an extra couple hundred dollars, and we have an experience. And now I'm sharing our experience so others don't accidentally part ways with their hard earned dollars, for slow, poor service with zero respect.

After several weeks of not hearing back, I requested the cabinet reskinning this week. I never received a confirmation date or time and received this email response from the team after their team showed up at my place without my knowing/being there -- "There was an email confirmation sent last week for today's appointment. It may have gone to your spam account. There is no proof this was a result of the faucets having a small leak, and the manager Shawn discussed not reskinning this cabinet. We only were trying to appease and get you taken care of. We don't have the power to reschedule the cabinet company and we do not reskin cabinets. You will need to find a cabinet company and then we will reschedule." So now I'm left with cleaning up the mess the caused on my own as they have not returned any of my calls or responded to my email. Do yourself a huge favor and look elsewhere. Based on reading other reviews, it looks like they have a history of not taking responsibility for damage they cause!

He even upgraded me from a 38 gallon to 50 gallon water heater for the same price. He was separately contracted to replace old valves in our building of over 430 apartments without a single issue.
