Rigatoni Salsiccia Calabrese
Laura L.

We came on a Friday night with a reservation. We started with the polpette meatball which comes on a bed of polenta. I wish the meatball had been a little bit more tender as there was supposed to be veal in it. When paired with the polenta, it's quite filling. The rigatoni with sausage had a nice kick to it! The portion size was good and I somehow felt it was larger than the orecchiette. I liked the pieces of speck ham in the orecchiette but found it too salty. Overall we were completely stuffed and had to take most of the orecchiette home.

AMAZING. Husband and I went for the first time. We enjoyed every bite. The interior is gorgeous and a lot bigger than what we expected from the outside. Service was also excellent. Kind staff. Food was delicious. Absolutely coming back for another date night. Recommend if you're in town!

Nicer upscale Italian restaurant in the Peninsula. Nice patio in the front that's good for families with small kids. La Violetta: Really well made refreshing cocktail served upright. Rosemary focaccia: Tasty, but not sure if it's worth $8 Carpaccio: The beef was super fresh and paired well with the mushroom. Lasagna: Solid, but not a standout Fiocchi: A super special pasta that is sweet with the pear. On the rich side due to the cream sauce. Petrale Sole Piccata: The fish was well cooked and the lemon and capers were tasty. Comes with mashed potatoes and some veggies. Osso Bucco: the veal was overall tender and solid and came with tasty polenta. Piccata di Vitello: The veal was again solid. Service was a bit slow and stiff, but otherwise the meal was solid. Wouldn't hesitate to come back!

Came here with high hopes, but overall it was just okay, especially considering all the great Italian spots nearby. We started with "The Fish Market" cheesy garlic bread, which sounded promising but didn't really stand out. The Caesar salad was similar, fresh but pretty standard and not very memorable. For my main, I got the truffle stuffed gnocchi with brown butter and sage. The flavor was actually really good and well balanced, but the portion was small, about 15 pieces. For the price, it didn't feel worth it, and I was still hungry even after appetizers, which was disappointing. My husband ordered the milanese di pollo. It looked great, but the chicken itself was a bit underwhelming. It tasted a little bland and not as well seasoned as we expected. I will say the atmosphere is really nice. It has a warm and inviting vibe and would be a good spot for a date night. The staff were also friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was pretty busy, which says a lot. Overall, nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either compared to other Italian restaurants in the area. Glad we tried it, but not sure we would go out of our way to come back.

I last visited Stella more than 12 years ago when it was at the old location across from the Burlingame Library, so I decided to take my better half to their newer Broadway Avenue location for a Valentine's dinner. The new space is modern, spacious, and very inviting. Reservations were surprisingly hard to get -- probably because of Valentine's week -- but I managed to snag a last-minute 5pm weekday opening. We were seated upstairs, which initially felt extra special since we were the only diners there. Within an hour, though, the second floor filled up quickly. Thankfully, the layout is roomy enough that it never felt crowded or uncomfortable. For starters, we ordered the garlic gnocchi with truffles -- absolutely delicious. The cheese garlic bread was another highlight: perfectly toasted outside, soft inside, and loaded with cheesy goodness. For our mains, we shared the filet mignon served over garlic truffle mashed potatoes with broccolini. Cooked medium rare, the filet was incredibly tender. We also shared the penne pasta, cooked perfectly al dente -- always a sign of well-executed Italian cooking. Dessert was bread pudding, and it was the perfect sweet finish to the evening. Overall, I can definitely see why Stella remains a local favorite. The service stayed attentive even as the restaurant filled up, and the food was consistently excellent. A must-try if you enjoy authentic Italian cuisine.

5 star italian dining experience in the mid peninsula! their shrimp risotto was delicious! ambiance is romantic and beautiful! i've been here for both a work outing and family night and it never disappoints. they do have kids menus and several gluten free options which we appreciate

Solid 3.5 stars. Vibe in here is very nice and cozy. We often sit at the bar and the main bartender is always friendly. Espresso martinis come with a cookie, which is very fun. Meals are good but not the best Italian food I've ever had. Pastas are reasonably priced. $8 for focaccia is greedy. "Tiramisu" is a very loose term here (it's dry vanilla cake with cream, not traditional at all)

This restaurant is stunning in ambiance and service. Making a reservation here and ordering the truffle gnocchi practically guarantees an elite evening. When I found out Stella was participating in " Flavors of the Peninsula", our suburban version of Restaurant Week in the city and that the 4-courses included a truffle gnocchi course, I made a Monday night reservation for two. The $65 prixe-fixe menu offered some of our favorites. Of course the best came first. Their version of truffle gnocchi is simply perfect - four delicate hand rolled pillows swimming in butter with fried sage leaves and truffle oil. I always have to stop myself from canceling everything else I've ordered and piping up " eight more gnocchi please". I opted for the salmon and my kid really likes Stella's chicken parmesan. The Stella salad features a yummy champagne dressing, candied nuts and cranberries in a nest of butter lettuce. The salmon was delicious, though the thinnest parts of the fish were a tad overcooked. The broccolini', spinach and carrot combination were fantastic, as were the perfect mashed potatoes. Kyle loved his chicken and made me take a bite if his pasta- yummm. Generally we are not dessert orderers but we were delighted with the lava cake and caramel gelato. It was a lot of food, especially for this restaurant and a true bargain at $65 for a four course meal at one of our neighborhood favorites that we generally save for special occasions due to the price tag.

For a few that know, this has been an absolute crazy last few days! So on a whim & on a weeknight, dressed in simple sweats & a smile, my hub & I stopped by for dinner here. My fave is Italian food & he just thought, "It's about time to unwind." We enjoyed a fulfilling meal of decadent carbs that made the chaos we're dealing with just a tad less messy. Thank you for the amazing experience, Stella! We have to say it's long overdue & we dang well deserved it!

Absolutely amazing!! They made my brother's birthday incredibly special. We made a last min reservation and they went above and beyond. The food was excellent, service was extremely friendly and the ambiance was absolutely beautiful. They have some stunning Christmas decor up right now too. They decorated the table for my brother's birthday and it was such a nice touch. Food: - Cheesy garlic bread with dungeness crab: cheesey, creamy and delicious - every bite was delightful - Fiocchi con pere e taleggio: my dish - it was a delicious pasta stuffed with pear and cheese in a creamy sauce. Perfect mix of creamy, salty, and sweet - absolutely divine - Gianna's Eggplant Parmigiana: my brother ordered this, he loves eggplant parm and this dish was enjoyable for him - Gamberi all aglio: my mom ordered this, it was delicious and in a yummy garlic sauce, shrimp was fresh and spaghetti was perfectly cooked - Petrale sole piccata: my dad got this, a crispy fish that was cooked and seasoned perfectly - Tiramisu: so decadent and coffee flavor really came through - Bourbon bread pudding: my brother was given this by the restaurant for his bday, it was divine!!! The pudding was a perfect texture and in a delicious milk sauce. We loved it!! Such an amazing experience. 10000% recommend this for a celebration of a date night - they will make it truly special.

Stella salad with chicken along

Went in for dinner on a Monday evening and there was no wait. However, it did take a bit for a waiter to visit my table, which was in the bar area. I ordered a Stella salad with chicken along with focaccia. I thought the salad was great and the focaccia was tasty. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

Great spot in downtown Burlingame. Lots of italian classics with a little twist. The truffle pasta appetizer was rich and heavenly. The fondue also was a hit among my table. Lamb rack was cooked just right to my preference and everyone at my table enjoyed the food. Service was a little miss but for a large group (10+), I understand how hectic it can be. Great spot for business lunches and dinners. Parking in downtown is easy and there is residential street parking only 1 block away.

I celebrated my 70th birthday party with 51 friends and family. What a wonderful experience. We held the party in the Mezzanine and it was perfect. Bianca and her staff were great to work with. Every detail was exactly how I wanted it. The food and drinks were amazing and flavorful. The staff was so welcoming and catered to my every whim. Highly recommend!!!

Which of the vegetarian options can be made allium-free (no onion, no garlic)?

I would say it's probably best to reach out to the restaurant and ask them just to be sure. I know when Stella was at the former location, the kitchen didn't do any substitutions for their dishes, but they'd probably make exceptions for food…

Yes, once we open there will be a year-round outdoor patio section with heat lamps. We will post pictures once we are closer to opening in mid-March.

Tables were draped in white tablecloths, and the walls were covered with photos and historic memorabilia that paid homage to the city of Burlingame. Our party was seated in a semi-private nook in the back of the restaurant; while it was nice to be in a quieter part of the restaurant for dinnertime conversation, it felt like our table was oddly positioned between the kitchen and restroom because servers and customers were constantly passing by our table. It took a while for our server to take our orders, but the food came out quickly after we ordered. One small hiccup was our server forgot to place one of our entree orders, and there was a ten minute delay for this last entree to come out. The food was all-around hearty and delicious. We ordered the arugula salad, calamari, arancini, and bruschetta to share, and I ordered the squid ink pasta as my entree. The squid ink pasta was the highlight for me; it's definitely a special treat since I rarely find this on menus. According to the menu description, Sapore makes their own squid ink pasta from scratch, and the noodles definitely tasted fresh. The pasta was tossed with a generous portion of seafood, including mussels, clams, giant shrimp, squid, and salmon - all of which was cooked perfectly. The tomato sauce was cream-based, so the overall dish was very rich. We miraculously saved room for dessert, and our table passed around the tiramisu, lava cake, and cannoli to share. This meal was the definition of ultimate comfort food.

I ordered the beef carpaccio and the Caesar salad with chicken. Both were delicious. These are both fairly simple dishes yet as we all know, not all things are created equal. It's amazing how many people ruin something as simple as a Caesar salad. There's was sensational. Perfectly dressed. It was both tangy and creamy, which I love. What I really appreciated was that the chicken that was added on top wasn't an afterthought. It was well seasoned, tender, and sliced in thin strips on top of the salad. It was slightly warm so i could tell it had just been cooked, which I think is wonderful. I'll take that any day over pre-cooked, dried out rubbery-ass chicken. If I lived or worked in this neighborhood, I would come here frequently just for this salad. The carpaccio was also excellent. Delicious on top of some of their warm toasty bread. The inside of the restaurant has a nice sized main dining area with a private dining area on the side, just past the restrooms. I was able to get seated right away due to the reservation, but I assumed walk-ins would've been accepted since there were tables available when I arrived. Aside from the bread with dipping oil, the meal started off with calamaretti fritti and bruschetta pomodoro. The calamari batter fell off upon touch as if it was frozen and reheated and tasted like mostly cornstarch with minimal spices; the crunch was there but not attached to the pieces of squid. The bruschetta was put together a little better, though the taste was standard and nothing extraordinary. Next, I had the insalata d'uva which looked like a salad mix straight from the bag at first glance. The taste of the pomegranate dressing was there, though very faint, and the red grapes and pecans were minimal. The gnocchi gratinati was a little better with the Padano-cream sauce. For my main course I had the salmone alla griglia. The fish portion was a nice size with a decent amount of olive oil on top. However, the "seasonal vegetables" were just green beans with little to no taste and the Yukon Gold potatoes lacked flavor as well; I had to try my best to soak up the olive oil with the green beans and potatoes. Lastly, for dessert I had the chocolate torte which was a thick and rich chocolate cake with strawberry sauce drizzled over with nothing remarkable to note. I've been to this Il Fornaio location occasionally over the years, and the quality of the food is the same every time; there is definitely room for improvement. Service was okay at best and the waiter didn't do anything above and beyond basic expectations. There are many other Italian restaurants nearby that I would prefer to dine at over Il Fornaio.

I made reservations for our party of eight for 6:30 PM via OpenTable. Easy peasy. Adding a few extra minutes to our travel time for finding street parking, we arrived just in time. No other tables were occupied, inside nor outside at the front patio. The venue, a warm space with dramatic lighting, was very clean and tidy during our visit. Trapeze's menu offers Italian fare with Mediterranean and Californian nuances. Upon seating, we were served baskets of complimentary bread accompanied with a unique red thick dipping oil which Peter enjoyed so much that he asked for more. The servers happily gave us extra servings. In addition to cocktails, wine, and coffee drinks, below are what we ordered for dinner: Lemon Citrus and Avocado Salad ($13) - I believe that Mom ordered this and found it to be light and refreshing. Ahi Tuna Tartar ($20) - I think that Peter and Mara shared this and ate it all up. I didn't hear any comments on it, though. Beet Salad ($14) - A very nice salad with generous slices of red and yellow beets and goat cheese. For an additional $12, Auntie Marissa added Salmon to her salad and had it as her main dish which filled her up. Grilled Polenta Cake ($12) - Auntie Marissa found this starter to be rich and filling. She said that Pal would really like it. Penne Con Pomodora E Melanzane ($20) - DJ was not very impressed by this bowl of pasta and eggplant, unfortunately. Paella Valencia ($32) - Uncle Danny is not a big seafood eater, but he was very pleased with this Spanish rice dish. Grilled Filet Mignon ($50) - Yum! This was my order and I loved it. Duck Ragu ($26) - Peter did not seem as enthusiastic about this pasta dish as he did with the complimentary red dipping oil for the baskets of bread. Penne Al Forno ($26) - Mom ordered this and thought that it was good. Classic Italian Tiramisu ($12) - This was served to me on the house, topped with a lit candle for my birthday. Everyone enjoyed sharing it. Bread Pudding ($13) - Ok, according to DJ. Trio of French Mini-Chocolate Beignets ($12) - These round beignets were like light donut holes filled with chocolate. They were nice, especially with the side of whipped cream and sliced strawberries. Service was excellently friendly, accommodating, and attentive. I've been to Pausa on separate occasions for dinner and a bunch of times for happy hour (spritz…read morehour). Dinner was fine, but if you can make it in time, go for happy hour! We always get the margherita pizza and when we want some protein, the meatballs are a good option. We have had some of their seasonal pizzas but the margherita is really tried and true. They also have a combo meat and cheese board (pick 2 of each), which is well worth it if you want a little bit of both, and the pairings that come with it. I always request the porchetta as one of my meat options. The staff is very attentive and the ambiance inside is kind of dark, moody and classy. They have a lovely bar but we prefer to sit outside on their patio. They do have heat lamps in case it gets chilly.

We were greeted at the door with a "happy anniversary!" and it was printed on our menu as well :) Small touches and personalization really do go a long way. I love the casual yet upscale vibe of the place, and my in-laws commented on what a great choice of restaurant it was! The noise level was just busy enough with white noise without it being overly noisy. Our waitress was so friendly without being overbearing, and timing was great (checked in enough, not too much). We got the Chef's Board 3-piece to start - had a great variety! My in-laws split the Pizza Margherita (crust was similar to what we had in Florence!), my mom and I got the Papardelle (mine was a bit overcooked, but I also love mine super al dente, so just a personal preference) and my husband's Toasted Semolina Ravioli was a little *too* al dente for his taste, so if we'd switched, it would've been perfect! My dad got the Top Sirloin that was very tender. For cocktails, I got the Amore Proibito which was like a gimlet with a kiwi cordial, yum! My husband got one of the featured negronis for Negroni Week! Overall, 4.5/5 stars Would come again for another special occasion!
