Carpaccio
Jonathan C.

Nicer upscale Italian restaurant in the Peninsula. Nice patio in the front that's good for families with small kids. La Violetta: Really well made refreshing cocktail served upright. Rosemary focaccia: Tasty, but not sure if it's worth $8 Carpaccio: The beef was super fresh and paired well with the mushroom. Lasagna: Solid, but not a standout Fiocchi: A super special pasta that is sweet with the pear. On the rich side due to the cream sauce. Petrale Sole Piccata: The fish was well cooked and the lemon and capers were tasty. Comes with mashed potatoes and some veggies. Osso Bucco: the veal was overall tender and solid and came with tasty polenta. Piccata di Vitello: The veal was again solid. Service was a bit slow and stiff, but otherwise the meal was solid. Wouldn't hesitate to come back!

For a few that know, this has been an absolute crazy last few days! So on a whim & on a weeknight, dressed in simple sweats & a smile, my hub & I stopped by for dinner here. My fave is Italian food & he just thought, "It's about time to unwind." We enjoyed a fulfilling meal of decadent carbs that made the chaos we're dealing with just a tad less messy. Thank you for the amazing experience, Stella! We have to say it's long overdue & we dang well deserved it!

I last visited Stella more than 12 years ago when it was at the old location across from the Burlingame Library, so I decided to take my better half to their newer Broadway Avenue location for a Valentine's dinner. The new space is modern, spacious, and very inviting. Reservations were surprisingly hard to get -- probably because of Valentine's week -- but I managed to snag a last-minute 5pm weekday opening. We were seated upstairs, which initially felt extra special since we were the only diners there. Within an hour, though, the second floor filled up quickly. Thankfully, the layout is roomy enough that it never felt crowded or uncomfortable. For starters, we ordered the garlic gnocchi with truffles -- absolutely delicious. The cheese garlic bread was another highlight: perfectly toasted outside, soft inside, and loaded with cheesy goodness. For our mains, we shared the filet mignon served over garlic truffle mashed potatoes with broccolini. Cooked medium rare, the filet was incredibly tender. We also shared the penne pasta, cooked perfectly al dente -- always a sign of well-executed Italian cooking. Dessert was bread pudding, and it was the perfect sweet finish to the evening. Overall, I can definitely see why Stella remains a local favorite. The service stayed attentive even as the restaurant filled up, and the food was consistently excellent. A must-try if you enjoy authentic Italian cuisine.

Solid 3.5 stars. Vibe in here is very nice and cozy. We often sit at the bar and the main bartender is always friendly. Espresso martinis come with a cookie, which is very fun. Meals are good but not the best Italian food I've ever had. Pastas are reasonably priced. $8 for focaccia is greedy. "Tiramisu" is a very loose term here (it's dry vanilla cake with cream, not traditional at all)

Fabulous restaurant and service from top to bottom. Our server (didn't get her name) was exceptional on a Saturday evening. She recommended the risotto with shrimp and it did not disappoint! Warm Apple dessert hit the spot.

Absolutely amazing!! They made my brother's birthday incredibly special. We made a last min reservation and they went above and beyond. The food was excellent, service was extremely friendly and the ambiance was absolutely beautiful. They have some stunning Christmas decor up right now too. They decorated the table for my brother's birthday and it was such a nice touch. Food: - Cheesy garlic bread with dungeness crab: cheesey, creamy and delicious - every bite was delightful - Fiocchi con pere e taleggio: my dish - it was a delicious pasta stuffed with pear and cheese in a creamy sauce. Perfect mix of creamy, salty, and sweet - absolutely divine - Gianna's Eggplant Parmigiana: my brother ordered this, he loves eggplant parm and this dish was enjoyable for him - Gamberi all aglio: my mom ordered this, it was delicious and in a yummy garlic sauce, shrimp was fresh and spaghetti was perfectly cooked - Petrale sole piccata: my dad got this, a crispy fish that was cooked and seasoned perfectly - Tiramisu: so decadent and coffee flavor really came through - Bourbon bread pudding: my brother was given this by the restaurant for his bday, it was divine!!! The pudding was a perfect texture and in a delicious milk sauce. We loved it!! Such an amazing experience. 10000% recommend this for a celebration of a date night - they will make it truly special.

Went in for dinner on a Monday evening and there was no wait. However, it did take a bit for a waiter to visit my table, which was in the bar area. I ordered a Stella salad with chicken along with focaccia. I thought the salad was great and the focaccia was tasty. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

Great spot in downtown Burlingame. Lots of italian classics with a little twist. The truffle pasta appetizer was rich and heavenly. The fondue also was a hit among my table. Lamb rack was cooked just right to my preference and everyone at my table enjoyed the food. Service was a little miss but for a large group (10+), I understand how hectic it can be. Great spot for business lunches and dinners. Parking in downtown is easy and there is residential street parking only 1 block away.

First time to Stella and it was great. Colleagues and I had lunch to celebrate. We were seated immediately and water was brought to our table without asking. Our waiter gave us ample time to talk amongst ourselves and decide on what we wanted to order. Throughout our lunch the staff was attentive and refilled our drinks and took the used plates away. The food itself was delicious and spot on. The group decided on family style so we could try as many different dishes. Sadly I didn't get pictures of everything but it was all so so good. I highly recommend the lobster escargot and when you're done take the focaccia and dip it in the butter sauce. Incredible!! The rigatoni salsiccia calabrese had so much flavor, the spicy tomato cream sauce isn't spicy at all and it added that kick that makes you need another bite. Their espresso martini was great, I had a few, it had been quite the week. The decor and ambiance was warm and inviting. Since it was sunny out I can only imagine what it looks like in the evening. I don't go into the office often but this place is a must return for dinner.

Came here for our anniversary dinner and had a great experience. The ambiance is very coach and romantic. I really liked all of the lights and decorations inside. The staff were also very knowledgeable and friendly. We got the fondue appetizer ($32), truffle gnocchi ($20 for 10 pieces), and short rib entree ($42). They also provided a complimentary crème brûlée dessert, which was absolutely delicious. It had a thick brûlée layer on top which paired up very nicely with the creamy base. My favorite dish! The truffle gnocchi, their signature fish, was also very good - super rich and buttery. I thought the short ribs were a bit on the dry side, and the fondue was a bit expensive for the dippers that were offered (broccoli, mushroom, apple slices, and bread). Overall though, a nice place to celebrate a special occasion.

Came back to try again after 4 years! Forgot to leave a review the first time around so I'm back again to revisit the dining experience & ordering the same things I did last time. Escargot was good; wasn't a fan of the tiramisu. Main dish had a wonderful mascarpone polenta. The meat was dry, but the red wine reduction saved it. The wine was the best part of the meal. Loud date night vibes. Thanks!

Had an amazing time renting the upper mezzanine for a private event! The restaurant was perfect - great food, chic space, attentive waiters, and overall great vibe. I coordinated with Bianca about a month before the event, and everything went super smoothly. I brought in my own flowers for centerpieces and it really added to the ambiance of the room. The decor, tables, and chairs really give it an upscale feel. The food was DELICIOUS. All of our guests complimented how great the dishes were. We also chose a red/white wine that was poured to our guests. -Truffle gnocci (4/5), the truffle taste was a bit slight, but overall a great appetizer, just a bit small -Rigatoni Salicicca Calabresse (5/5) - this was SO good. A combination of white and red sauce, the sausage really tied it together and pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. -Salmon with Prosecco beurre blanco (5/5) - the salmon was cooked perfectly. A creamy white sauce to pair and mashed potatoes I'd definitely come back here, not just for the event. I do wish Bianca gave me her personal number, as there were many times I was trying to get hold of the restaurant regarding the event and couldn't be connected to her/got a voicemail with no return. Overall, wonderful experience and I'm so glad I had my event at Stella.

We went here for an early mother's day dinner. We had reservations and were seated right away. The restaurant had dim lights which added to the ambiance. The food was coursed out nicely since we ordered all of our food at once.

One of the things that happened when I visited this bar was I asked for a simple lemonade. The reason was because I had a soccer game the next day and I didn't want to drink alcohol and I wanted to get some electrolytes in me. It would have been very simple for the bartender to just say, "I'm sorry we don't serve lemonade." Instead what he did is say I worked here 20 years and he never served lemonade and then kept scoffing at me. He kept saying this three times, walking back and forth, up until the point the patron next to me even said, "Don't worry about him." After that without even me talking to him, he said, "Who orders lemonade at an Irish pub?" Then without me saying anything, he said, "No one orders lemonade at an Irish pub." I was honestly just trying to get a drink and he made me feel very dumb. Overall if a patron asks you for a drink, it's very easy just to say, "I'm sorry we can't do that," but he kept making me feel like an idiot. I was also surprised they did not serve lemonade; that's a very simple request. He didn't offer any alternatives except for 7-Up, which I didn't really want but paid for anyway. I ended up not drinking it even after I paid for it and leaving the bar. I guess the bartender got what he wanted. He gave me a drink that was other than lemonade; he made me pay for it and I just left the bar unhappy. I would highly recommend against visiting this establishment, especially with the grumpy bartender. He is an older white Irish guy. I understand they might have your own customers at the bar but I think it costs nothing to treat patrons with respect and not tell them that they're stupid for asking for a drink. Overall I would not recommend this place at all. Very enforced error. Sad!

Super impromptu meetup with a girlfriend, I said let's try out Paddy Flynn's. We got a Guiness (duh) and a gin and tonic. Bartender was no-nonsense. I expected it to be crowded due to the 49ers/Seahawks game, but we were able to grab a high top. It served its purpose and we were able to catch up over a drink. Crowd was mixed, and even some of the seemingly-random patrons knew each other. It's what you would expect from a pub. Dark. Lively. Straightforward. Will be back.

The location was also convenient for everyone, so it felt like the perfect place to celebrate. Food: We ordered the meze platter, lamb riblet, tuna tartar, saghanaki, beet spinach salad, and octopus. Everything tasted amazing. The pita bread came warm and fresh as soon as we arrived, which was such a nice touch. The lamb riblet was so tender, the saghanaki was great as always, and the tuna tartar became my new favorite because it was full of fresh tuna and avocado. For dessert, we had Mama's pudding and profiteroles, and both were a perfect finish. Service: Our server, Susan, was amazing. She explained the menu clearly, helped us choose drinks, and was very attentive the whole night. I told her what I liked and did not like for cocktails, and she helped me find the perfect match. We tried the spicy margaritas, Slay, and White Shadow, and they were all great. Even though it was a crowded night, the staff checked on us at the right times and made sure we had everything we needed. Ambiance: The ambiance was beautiful and perfect for a girls' night. The purple lighting, modern decor, and lively energy made the celebration feel special. Overall, I am so happy I chose Mykonos Meze for my bachelorette celebration, and I will definitely keep coming back.

Walked into what is clearly a local institution - the kind of place where regulars know the staff's kids' names. Weekday evening crowd skewed silver-haired, which in my experience is always a good omen. These people have been eating out for decades - they know where the bodies are buried and where the good food is. Server was legitimately excellent. Paced the order so apps didn't collide with entrees - a simple move that most places fumble. Checked in without hovering. Knew the menu cold. Then this happened: I asked for a Pliney. He asked, "Elder or Younger?" That's when I had to pause. In all my years of ordering Plineys, no one has ever asked me that. Because no one has ever randomly had Pliney the Younger on tap. These guys did - apparently a locally advertised special that had been going on that day. They had a Keg of this rare stuff, and it was depleting quickly. I got the Younger on repeat till I was barely stumbling out of the place. Life is good. Ordered the Cheesesteak and it was legit - not playing around. The family went burgers, hot dogs, and wings. Zero complaints across the board. Bar fare done right, priced right, with zero pretension. Sometimes the best finds are the ones you didn't plan for.

This recent trip…read morewas actually my second time here, though the first time feels like forever ago (some time pre-pandemic). LOCATION: Its home is within the Burlingame Plaza, next door to a Lunardi's grocery store. It's located directly across from the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center on the corners of Trousdale and El Camino Real. PARKING: There generally is enough parking, though you may have to walk a bit further depending on the time of day and how busy it is. The lot and area seem safe, even at night when other things in the shopping center have closed down. INSIDE: We went on a Sunday evening, around 6pm to watch the Sunday Night Football game. It was actually pretty busy, though there was some bar and highboy seating as well as a couple tables still available. We went with the traditional table because the older we get, the more we appreciate back support. There are TVs EVERYWHERE. Most of the walls are lined with TVs, playing a variety of sports, but mostly whatever's local or the "main game". It's also pretty loud-you're still able to have a conversation amongst a smaller group of people, but you definitely have to be listening intently. There is a lot of cool, mostly local, sports memorabilia. They have a whole Giants corner, in addition to lots of Niners autographed jerseys, helmets, and footballs. There's also a wall with dozens of autographed baseballs. We took some time to look at the names, and noticed the likes of Mickey Mantle, Willie McCovey, and plenty of other Hall of Famers! DRINKS: Their drink menu consists of 10+ white wine, 6 red wine, and 2 sparkling wine options available by the glass or the bottle. They have bottled beer (domestic, imports, and microbrew) and cans (White Claw, High Noon, Wyder's Pear Cider, Ace Joker apple cider, and Guinness). They also have a couple non-alcoholic beer options, and other non-alcoholic options (coffee, tea, Pepsi products, juice, and Arnold Palmers). They also have over a dozen beers on tap, as well as a full bar that can provide shots and likely make most cocktails. Prices for most drinks are actually quite reasonable for the area--on par with a sports bar more than a fancy restaurant. FOOD: Their menu is surprisingly big for what seems to be a shopping center sports bar. For apps, they have a lot of typical bar food options (fries, onion rings, potato skins, mozzarella sticks, wings, chicken tenders, sliders, quesadillas, tacos, and even Lumpia). There is a section with half a dozen tasty sounding salads, available in full or half sized portions. There is also a separate section for their chili, which is served in a cup or bowl, with shredded cheese, chopped onion, sour cream, and fresh jalapenos. The sandwich portion of the menu runs 10+ deep with options such as burgers, a patty melt, Philly cheese steak, grilled and Buffalo fried chicken, salmon, BLT, and even a hotdog or polish dog (technically not a sandwich)! The entree section has some bangers too, with items like BBQ ribs, NY steak, grilled or blackened salmon, linguini, chicken parm, ravioli, and meatballs. I love that this section has an Italian flair, and want to come back to try things like the chicken parm! This most recent trip we went with friends and split a few things amongst the groups. I got the patty melt, with a side of chili. The melt was solid, not spectacular. I would have liked the grilled onions cooked a little more. The chili was also good, not great. We got all the accoutrements on the side, which allowed us to try it on its own first, then add as we go. Our friends ordered a Chinese chicken salad, and a burger basket with onion rings. They both finished their meals and noted that they enjoyed them! OVERALL: While this is basically a bar, it's also a restaurant. There were several children under the age of 10 running around screaming that were part of larger groups. Not sure if there's a specific time when minors are no longer allowed? The service was friendly enough, and the bathrooms were clean when we went. This is for sure a great spot to grab a drink, bite to eat, and watch a sports game or 3! IG: @bbnem.eats
