My husband and I ordered: -the linguini with clams in white wine 10/10 for a flavorful sauce and black pepper taste. A friend arranged a dinner party for about fifteen people at Rocca. This is a nice restaurant in Burlingame. They only have street parking and it can get a little busy during dinner time. There are public lots but they were all full, so I found a parking in a residential area a block away. This restaurant has a nice upstairs dining area where they put large parties. We started with some appetizers. The eggplant was really good. They also serve a few types of bread with olive oil and vinegar. I was in a traditional mood so I got the spaghetti with bolognese and added meatballs. It was very rich and filling. We made a reservation, and showed up a litt bit late. They forced us to wait another 15 minutes for our table. Given this poor experience you can tell how impressed I was with their food and service to give them five stars. The indoor sitting is very nice with high ceilings and nice painting. We went there to celebrate my father's 69's birthday, and they did an amazing job. The food was pretty delicious (probably the best Italian food I had for a while) and the service was spectacular. My beloved boyfriend surprised me by bringing me here for my birthday dinner. Rocca Ristorante is a cozy Italian mom-and-pop restaurant in Burlingame, and since he had made a reservation, we were promptly seated in a cozy red velvet booth. LED candlelight gave a soft warm glow to the ambience. Since the holiday season was just at the end, Christmas lights were still up. For our main courses, we had the Fettuccine and the Lasagna special, which were both really delicious and indulgent. For dessert, we got the Mocha crunch cake. The waitstaff also brought out a round mini cheesecake with a candle for me to blow out! My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful time here, and I could not have asked for better company on my birthday. Giving 5 stars because I don't like damaging a places yelp reviews when it's only a message for management. My family and I went here for Mother's Day. The ambience was great, service was amazing, the one thing I was disappointed with was the menu. Don't get me wrong the dish I got was tasty but that's because I love pasta. What the table was wanting was a real steak, rib eye or prime rib, not skirt steak with teriyaki sauce. On one of the busiest holidays we would have gladly paid a higher price for a ribeye or a cut of prime rib but the beef available on the set menu wasn't worth it. Tonight, we had another amazing dinner at Rocco. We arrived at 7 p.m. on a busy Saturday night, but thanks to our Yelp reservation, we were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout. We started with two appetizers: the calamari, which was excellent (5/5), and the carpaccio, which had a bit too much Dijon mustard for our taste but was still good (4/5). For our main courses, each of us chose a pasta dish. I absolutely loved my fettuccine ala Rocca--it was outstanding (6/5)! My son, who usually loves gnocchi, wasn't as impressed with theirs tonight (2/5), and I'd have to agree after trying a bite. My husband had the fettuccine con salsiccia, which he felt was a bit tangy (3/5). My son's girlfriend ordered the linguine fra diavolo in red sauce, though it arrived in white sauce by mistake. The hostess was very sweet and did her best but there's not a lot of standing room between the door the bar and the check in area. Holiday Price Gouging and "Bread Rationing" - Disappointing Christmas Dinner I am a bartender in Burlingame, so I am usually the last person to leave a bad review--I know the industry. However, my Christmas dinner at Rocca was a complete failure in hospitality and value. Despite the restaurant not being "extremely" busy, the service was mediocre. The red flags started early. We were told our table of eight was "limited" on bread because they were running low. An Italian restaurant running out of bread at the start of the dinner rush is inexcusable. The "Halibut Special" was another disappointment. While the flavor was fine, the portion size was a joke--it looked like a standard filet cut into thirds. The real "scam," however, was the soda. The waitress offered diet coke refills throughout the night. Each glass was 50% ice, and we were charged $4.00 per refill without warning. Between three of us, we were charged $32.00 for Diet Cokes. This wasn't a case of us being cheap; we ordered wine and cocktails as well. Shame on you, Rocca, for taking advantage of families on a holiday by cheating them on portions and nickel-and-diming them on soda. Being in the local industry, I get asked for dinner recommendations every single shift. I can promise you I will be sharing this story with every guest who asks about this place. read more
