Don't get to Old Sacramento much these days. We had some relatives come into town and they really wanted to go to the railroad museum and see the rest of Old Sac. We got there mid-morning and were looking for something to eat. We ended up at Steamer's and the 6 of us had omelettes, pancakes and coffees that we all enjoyed. Service was attentive and caring. First off to those complaining about the prices... welcome to every restaurant in Old Sac, the tourist trap of Sacramento. Complaining about prices here is like complaining about prices on the Vegas strip. Everything here will be more expensive than the lesser known places the locals frequent. That out of the way, Steamers is a great spot, and really solid for being one of the only real breakfast options in the area. There are plenty of coffee/espresso drinks in addition to alcoholic options like mimosas and irish coffee. The drinks my partner and I have had have all been quite good. They have more food options than I would expect from a counter-order cafe, ranging from various sandwiches, tacos, and burritos to full breakfast plates. All the items I've had have all been good, but nothing has stood out as being exceptional, which isn't a bad thing at all. They also have a tasty açaí bowl, although when we went the açaí mix was a bit too frozen. The service here was quite good on a busy saturday, with someone constantly wiping down tables between serving food. Customers are asked to bus their own tables, which is easy enough to do. Speaking of tables, there isn't a ton of seating inside or outside, but most people are getting food to go so it's not usually a major issue. Overall Streamers is a great breakfast/brunch choice, and the food portions are solid to quite large for the premium prices. read more

Arrived in Old Sac before most of the businesses were open. After walking all around we stopped in for a bite while we waited for other businesses to open. Most of their breakfast items include pork (bacon or sausage) with no alternative. So that cut most of the available breakfast items off the menu for me. (Fyi: pork makes me retch, it's not a good time, and not a preference, 'cause who doesn't like bacon?!) Forty seven dollars later we had one bagel and cream cheese spread (I'm miffed that it wasn't even cream cheese, but a cheap spread), one breakfast sandwich and two cafe lattes. That includes the CA tax of 8.75%, a convenience fee of 4% for our credit card payment and the tip. Counter ordering, food will be brought to your table if dining-in. Bus your own table. They were not wiped down during our visit so be prepared to sit at a dirty table. I think there were only two people on staff during our visit so really there was no one available to tidy the dining area. No shade on the business. Just fyi. The coffee was good, and it is available in a mug vs. paper cup for dining in which I appreciate. Outdoor seating on the boardwalk/sidewalk is a nice option, especially if you have pets or kids. Besides egg dishes, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches and bagels they also have a selection of pastry like pound cake, chocolate muffins and croissants. Many coffee drinks, hot tea, mexican sodas, coke and bottled water are also available. You need a code to access the gender neutral restroom. It was clean enough, although it does need to be aired out and/or given a serious disinfecting. Not gross, just noticable. Parking nearby at on-street metered spots or parking garage. Sidewalks are wheelchair accessible. Entrance is sidewalk level. Wheelchair access to bathroom my be tough to navigate around tables. read more

My wife and I have always wanted to stop here after passing through it so many times at old Sacramento. Stepped inside noticed they had a good side, lunch menu, and lots of coffee. One of our favorite things to do with my wife and dog is walk around Old Sac. We do it a lot for dog socializing, but this weekend we showed up with another mission... breakfast. We finally decided to check out Steamers and really enjoyed it! The spot is small but super cute and has a cozy little vibe to it. We ordered two breakfast croissant sandwiches along with guava mimosas... and honestly, no explanation is needed there. That combo already speaks for itself. Another huge plus was that our dog was able to hang out with us in the outside seating area. I will say the patio space is a little tight, so just keep that in mind if you're bringing a dog. Luckily, Lobo is basically a retired old man trapped in a younger dog's body, so he just relaxed the whole time. Overall, it was a great first experience. Since they were one of the few places open early, four of us stopped here to grab something small for breakfast. Their breakfast burrito and croissant breakfast sandwich were delicious. Coffee is also solid, but they totally forgot to bring out one of our orders. A big negative is the homeless that tend to hang out here. A key pad to access the bathroom is an indicator that this seems to be a frequent issue. read more

We came to Old Sac early for the St. Patrick's Day parade and decided to have breakfast at Steamers. We ordered at the counter and decided to eat outside on a beautiful Saturday morning. The main reason I came here was for the Irish Coffee. I had my first ever two years back at the last St. Patrick's parade and loved it. Right amount of whiskey that's wasn't too overpowering so good. The pancakes I ordered were fluffy and the bacon and eggs were nice. She enjoyed her Denver Omelet's fresh veggies. I always enjoy stopping here for coffee whenever I visit Old Sac. I am giving this place 3 Stars and here's why... The antique decor in here is so cool, picture worthy. I hope this is not the norm for this place but the coffee was so bad, we had to send it back. It tasted stale and acidic to the max. We thought it might have been the syrup but we changed our drinks and it was the same. The employee behind the counter was very nice though. She didn't give us a hard time about it nor were we rude about the coffee. I wish I had something better to say. Stopped in after a long walk with my dogs and was met with the friendliest helpful staff... the vibe was welcoming relaxed and genuinely eager to help. They offered my dogs water and talked me thru all the menu options. First off it's open on Sunday morning earlier than the other restaurants, so there's that. It's a great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch (they are Not open for dinner), tater tots instead of hashbrowns. I had the breakfast sandwich on croissant and added spinach cuz I needed some greens. Nicely prepared; my eggs weren't overly cooked nor under. Service was good and they have Bloody Marys and Irish coffees if you would care to partake in early morning libations as well as mimosas. You can sit on the outside patio which I did just to be outside (it was a beautiful day) can't pass that opportunity to enjoy the outside. We were here on Saturday morning. It was busy, but not slammed. There were lots of people having breakfast. There were a couple tables inside and a couple more outside that were free. We took a high top table with no stools. We were second in line, so it wasn't bad. We ordered the banana nut muffin. It was dry and over $4. Not worth it. We'll have to order something different next time. They are the only coffee shop in Old Sac so everyone is here. Prices are really steep here, it's probably due to it's a tourist area. My husband also got a thai tee Mocha, He said it was really good. There are not strategically placed garbage cans around, so everyone was piling up their trash and dirty dishes on one of their barrels. I'm glad we came upon Steamers! We arrived for breakfast, and it was one of the only places open so we headed in for food and coffee. The menu is full of yummy items, coffee, shakes, and they had some breakfast specials. Here you order at the counter, and they bring your food to your table when it's ready. The food came out really fast. The servers and front counter staff were so friendly and welcoming! I enjoyed one of their Açaí bowls, Naughty and Nice. It was delicious and filling! I also had an iced coffee which was great. The inside seating was small but we managed to get a large table. Don't go if you don't want to feel icky. My husband and I stopped in for a light breakfast on a recent trip to Sacramento. He ordered pancakes to share & coffee; I had a mocha. The pancakes weren't cooked all the way (like, literally still raw, wet, cold batter in the middle). How hard is it to make pancakes?! My mocha was burnt and the only alternative to cow's milk they had was almond, so it was also pretty thin & watery with very little flavor. Watery, burnt mocha does not equal happiness. I didn't taste my husband's coffee but he said it was nothing special. I also wanted to wash my hands when we got there. I asked for the restroom code but once I was inside, I wasn't too confident. The restroom looked like it hadn't had a thorough clean in a LONG TIME. Dirt. Grime. Mildew. I didn't want to touch anything after I washed my hands. Then when I came back out to the eating area, I started noticing all the dirt & grime & general untidiness of the whole place. I'm not a germaphobe, but I do want a place that's preparing food I'm going to eat to be clean. But every surface in this place was sticky or oily or dirty. We like to try local places when we travel, and it was recommended by the hotel, so we were pretty disappointed. The coffee was $6 -- not a huge difference from other places nearby that charge $5, but enough to make me pause and expect something a little better in return. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver. The interior had a damp smell -- like old wood or moisture -- which made it hard to enjoy the space. It just didn't feel cozy or inviting. The whole atmosphere felt a bit sad and worn-out.
