Why not....I'll tell you why not, the food sucks. They made a big deal about using sirloin steak. Making it into a ball and smashing it on the grill to get that crusty good edge. Not anymore. This patty is a carbon copy of a McDonald's patty. Uniform size texture and no taste. I mean they use to taste good. Not any more. Break off a piece of meat without the trimmings and bun. Tasteless. What a shame. Even the milkshake tasted like a big frozen ice cream straight from a machine. I've learned my lesson. Steak and Shake is a has been. It was once great but now it isn't. Upon walking in there were a few people standing there waiting to be seated and being ignored. Finally the hostess (maybe she was the manager ?) came out and mumbled something, pointed to a series of open booths and said clearly "That is why I cannot seat you there" Then she looked at a Man with a group of kids and said "How many are you"? And started grabbing menus. At this point I walked out. She never introduced herself, never apologized for the inconveience and she didn't even use the english language correctly! A circus monkey would have been more professional! Had a Cup of Chili nice and hot, good but not great. Could have used some shredded cheddar to help firm it up a bit. I tried the meat lovers steak burger for the first time. No onions barbecue sauce on the side. I liked it more than I thought. The burger and the frankfurter were cooked well done just like I prefer. I will order it again, went for the upgrade seasoning on the fries salt and vinegar. Not as good as The other season fries I've tried. Didn't seem like they added enough seasoning. I had water to drink with my meal, but I enjoyed it so much I decided to celebrate with a chocolate malt. No whip cream or cherries for me. Very good nice and thick, did not have the dreaded ice crystals. So double score good food and good Malt. The staff was overly pleasant tonight, but it wasn't very busy. Horrible service. Waiting behind vehicle at drive thru where they gave the person my daughter's shake and they gave it back. We watched it sit at the window and they attempted to give us the returned/sitting shame. Gave us our order and shorted us fry and did not give us drink as part of meal. Seriously, the diner was packed last night, 3 wait staff for the whole restaurant, after about 20 mins waiting around for someone to atleast ask us if we wanted something to drink, just got up and took the family to a Wendys. This is the third time in the last year I've gone in here and the service sucks. Get more help, staff your restaurant properly, satisfy customers. The 1 star is for service only. Ordered a chocolate/banana side-by-side milkshake at the drive through. 2 blocks away I realize it's chocolate/strawberry. Went back and it took about 10 minutes for a new shake. Counter had used napkins right in front of employees, which didn't get thrown away, and 2 customers walked out while I was waiting because no one seated them. Got my shake, but 2 blocks away I realize I got a chocolate shake with pieces of banana chopped up in it, as they caused a slight aneurism when they clogged the straw. Never going back. read more

I went here with my father on Saturday, and our experience was really great. We had a server who was very young - maybe 16, and she clearly took her job seriously. She was super friendly and absolutely took great care of us. The food was fresh and hot, and most importantly - yummy. Of course the quality at Steak n Shake is not that high; however, it should still be good for what it is. This location definitely met (and exceeded) my expectations. Today I went to Steak 'n Shake to get a shake. I went through the drive through and ordered a chocolate fudge brownie Shake. I was the only car in line, no one ahead or behind me. I get to the window and 2 workers are staring standing there doing nothing. Finally after 2 minutes a woman comes to take my money for the shake. After she hands it back she walks away and comes back a few minutes later and hands me a straw and spoon so I assume my shake is ready. I wait 5 MORE MINUTES. IN THE DRIVE THROUGH. it has been almost 10 minutes when I received my half melted shake with no whipped cream and as I drive away I realize no brownie either. Stopped in on a Saturday night. Service was slow as molasses! Waited about 40 mins for burgers. The food wasn't the hottest when it was brought to us, and we considered leaving multiple times. We watched workers looking around like they had no idea what to do, food sat in the window for ten minutes at a time, and the larger tables stayed dirty well after the parties left. You have to review this place for what it is. Its a fast food resturant with table service. It reminds me of the days of the Woolworts or Walgreens Grill. Prices are fair, coupons are always in paper if you want to sweeten the deal. Good Burgers-Made to order and Awesone shakes. I wouldnt recomend it as Haute Cuisine, but if your family wants to get out and you dont want to lay out top dollar give them a try. read more

I have gone through the drive in several times and it was hit or miss. Sometimes everything was fine, sometimes cold and wrong. I figured that if we ate at the restaurant it would be better so we finally made a point to go inside. What a mistake. Filthy, dirty and nasty. Bathrooms were disgusting. Waited in the drive through for an unexaggerated 20+ minutes. The gal at the window tried to hand me a bag with the wrong order (even after looking at what was in the bag) and I sent it back in to be corrected. Again, about 10 mins (at least) later they came back with yet another wrong order. I sent it back in telling them it was incorrect and I wanted to be refunded my money. The worker then comes back with a bag with the correct order (assumably) but at that point I had had it. I reminded him I was no longer interested in the food and wanted a refund. After 30+ mins, a crying child in my back seat, and numerous incorrect attempts at getting my 2 meal order correct, I no longer wanted to give them my money. Finally the manager came to the window and handed me a cash refund and barely apologized. Great option for a family dinner out. The casual dining is good for kids, prices are fair if not pretty good, and the food's not bad. Don't get me wrong it's still fast food / a greasy diner, but a step above the major chains. They had activities and toys for the kids to play with and I left satisfied. Went to the drive in at 8 pm Sunday night. One car in front of me. They placed a small order (1 milkshake) and then I placed my single order for a hamburger, fries, and coke. Fifteen minutes later and both of us are still waiting at the check out window. I don't know how long I would have waited to get my order but I pulled out of line after waiting 18 minutes (and the lady in front of me was still there waiting for her shake). Come on folks: it was one milkshake and a hamburger. That's what you sell and neither order was customized. On my way out of the lot I counted the number of cars in the parking lot: 4. This was one of the worst waits I've ever waited for a burger at a fast food restaurant. Waited for over half an hour to be served a shake which appeared to be sitting back in the kitchen for as long as the wait. After that we waited for about another 5 minutes. This was unbelievable. I came with my 2 kids. Initially everything was fine. I asked about making a change to my order. The waitress tells me I can't make a changes to the order. That really seemed strange. So I asked again. The waitress advised me that it is company policy not to issue refunds. I told the waitress that's not what I am asking. The waitress begins to get loud towards me. I asked for the manager. She tells me that she is the manager. I asked again for the manager. She said she was the manager. She tells me that I can either that my food or not (food still isn't ready) she is the manager and there is nothing else she can do. I then advised that a refund was not being requested. She then tells me that I am being rude to her in front of my kids. She then says that she doesn't have to take this and calls the police. 3 squad cars arrive, still didn't have food. One of my kids leaves and goes to car. The other employees tried to calm the waitress down repeating that I didn't say anything wrong. The police was even surprised that the aggressor was the employee not me. This was a horrible and embarrassing experience for myself and kids who attend school with the patrons in the restaurant. read more

Wow I have now experienced what the passing between the 9 stages of Hell feels like. My friends and I ordered shakes when we were blazed off that loud. At first I thought I was just stoned and time was moving slowly, but my friends informed me that it had been 20 minutes since we ordered, still no shakes. We decided to go to this location to celebrate our twins becoming Eagle Scouts. When we arrived there was a large group of teenage girls in the restaurant. We ordered some fries and celebratory shakes... we received the fries immediately. However, we did not get our shakes for over 40 minutes. The very kind waitress kept apologizing to us. Then the manager came over and asked what the issue was. We had not called for her... however, we explained that we have been waiting for 40 minutes. She told us that it is their policy to serve shakes to all the teens first, because they were there first. They could not mix our 4 shakes into the larger order. This seemed really absurd to me... did they make the drive through orders wait too? The manager would not take any $$ off our check and then basically called us liars, told us that she "dealt with customers like "us" all the time", and that we should be ashamed for acting the way we were in front of our sons. I was absolutely appalled. This is not a person who should be managing a store and definitely not a person who should be dealing with people. No wonder the waitress kept apologizing to us.. she was probably afraid of her manager. The manager's name is "Jenn"... and she told us she is not worried about any review or complaint... because corporate would not do anything about it.
