We came here a few times when we were on vacation . The first trip we had with our group was great! Our waitress Rachael was so nice and friendly, i really was hoping we got her again when we went back. Food was great. 2nd time with our group, deb brown, was the rudest nastiest lady to us. She was yelling and saying we dont have room for everyone, we didn't even need to sit together, we were ok with different tables, we just wanted to eat. She kept making smart ass remarks about our group, and another big group, 6 ppl, came behind us and she was yelling there is not enough room for everyone here. We finally got seated and our waitress was so nice and polite. I wish we didnt encounter deb at all because it was a very bad way to have her represent your store, and her name tag said she was a service trainer. I'm very confused. We order at a kiosk, pick up our order at the counter and pick up after ourselves yet a tip is requested. We both ordered butter burgers. Well, they sure have changed! The food is still good but no waitresses now. You walk up to a menu board and choose what you want. That seemed easy but it got my order wrong. Then they got it even more wrong. They made it right after that but what a hassle. Feels more like stopping at a truck stop on the turnpike except there was no Cinnabon counter! You do everything yourself including cleaning off your "dishes" and leaving them near the trash. The people working there were VERY NICE but it just isn't what I am looking for when I go out to eat. Very cold ambiance as well. I won't be going back except for the occasional milkshake but I will just use the drive through. read more

It's a chain but it was something quick and cheap. My budget for food is the dollar menu from McDonald's right now. Damn tax season for a server. Wah wah wah. This is located conveniently next to Walmart where I shop. Good place to come before a night of shopping with the parents. The place was rather dirty. The manager was helping clean tables. They were busy with not much help. I felt bad for them. It was very limited when I saw my server. She was doing so much at once. Get these servers some help!! There are not many good places to eat in Ashtabula so this is a popular and cheap place to come. It's one of the better options in this area, sad to say. It took awhile to get our drinks and I never got my salad but the server admitted she got caught up with making my difficult sandwich situation work. I ordered the new prime white truffle burger but I wanted to substitute a grilled chicken patty. Not a big meat eater. They kindly built my sandwich like the burger with grilled chicken. Man was it good! Juicy chicken with tillamook Swiss cheese portobello mushrooms and s truffle aioli sauce. Yummmmmm. Not a fan of their skinny fries so I didn't eat any. They need sweet potato fries added! The price for the 3 of us was 21$! Can't beat that! Good and quick food. They just need to touch up on some things but just remember it's a Steak n Shake. Usually a decent place for a burger and not so good fries, however this morning was a disaster. Seated quickly, but that's as good as it gets. Took a half an hour to get our food despite the fact that there was only four tables occupied. Wife's order was messed up and had to be reordered, my breakfast consisted of hard toast, dried out sausage, a lame, pale hash brown and two eggs not cooked as ordered. My wife's reordered order was complete with limp lettuce which was brown around the edges. Could not have been worse. I really should have complained, but we were already running late. Kitchen staff! Service was painfully slow, menu items weren't available, the orders came out wrong, and my shake came out after we were done with our meals. Meal was terrible, even for the super low price. I thought perhaps our experience was unique but having read several reviews that complained about poor service, I realized that bad service seems to be common, and management isn't in any hurry to correct the issue. What I found more disappointing was that after 35 minutes, other staff members walked past us, and not one of them asked our server about our order. I don't expect service from staff who isn't assigned to my table, but in the interest of customer satisfaction and team work, I would expect that someone sitting with just a drink might raise a red flag. read more

The worst place ever!! We waited for our dinner for 45 minutes, then when it finally comes my BLT looks like the toast was never toasted and I open it and there's a big round hard piece of lettuce a tomato and no bacon!!!! I waited 45 minutes for that mind you there was only 5 other tables in there with us so it wasn't busy! My granddaughters macaroni and cheese looked like someone ate half of it, my husbands burger came out ok but then my grandson didn't even get his corn dogs! I love Steak-N-Shake! I'm not usually real big on chain restaurants, but this one just really hits the spot for me. The burgers kind of melt in your mouth, especially the Frisco Melt (which is my favorite!) and the chili cheese fries are so good it's hard to stop once you start! They have happy Hour from 2-4 p.m. (and a.m.!!!), so if I'm down that way mid-afternoon I'm sure to stop by and get HALF-PRICED milkshakes for the kiddos (which are very yummy and old school) and a half-priced large sweet tea for me. They also still have something available that is NOT on the drive-thru menu any longer called a Snack Pack for around $2.89 before tax. It has a full-sized single burger ANY WAY you want it (even double tomato!), a small fry and a small drink. It's fresh and made to order! Now this beats any dollar menu anywhere!!! read more

Thought I'd run through on the way home because Steak N Shakes are usually cheap, but extremely tasty food. I was wrong for this one. Extremely disappointed they even call themselves a Steak N Shake. I got a burger and fries and my boyfriend got a banana shake. My burger looked and tasted like it had been sitting out for the majority of the day. It was pretty bland and hardly had any toppings. The whole thing was way too greasy and my fries weren't even salted or seasoned. My boyfriends shake was basically one big chunk of a banana. He couldn't even finish it. People were seated after us and got their drinks and orders taken while we still sat waiting for anyone to come over.
