While visiting my cousins in Ashtabula, we had the pleasure of visiting Harbor Halycon. When you walk in and throughout your visit, everyone is warm, welcoming and attentive. You never have to beg for anything. They work as a team and know good service. We all love the smashburger so much that we have to get it every time. It's so juicy and flavorful. We stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday. We were seated and brought water immediately. Our waitress was so nice, and took our kids order so it could get started fast. We ended up ordering a burger and a sandwich and both were great! I had read about the truffle fries and Mac and cheese, and you know what? The regular fries were better. The Mac was not my favorite. But that's ok! I definitely recommend the turkey panini and the fries. We'll be back if we are in the area!! Inaccurate ratings - here visiting from out of town and first let me start with some guy from the restaurant taking a video of this place, but for what - the terrible service? First I would like to state that if you have a large party, do not come here. The hosting skills are less than adequate. We spoke to the same hostess three times and she informed us what she would be doing with the tables to accommodate us, but then reserved a table of 5 for 7pm....we got there at 6:15pm with a party of 7 (there is no mention of reservations on the website). After 45 minutes we got our food, but let me reiterate our food was not something difficult to prepare. 4 burgers, kids grilled cheese, steak salad, buffalo chicken Mac and cheese and one of the easiest orders ever...a plain cheeseburger...BUT they forgot to put the order in, so my teenage son is now waiting for food. We asked for an update for a PLAIN CHEESEBURGER and we got "I have no update, I'm sorry the kitchen is really backed up." Here is my question because it's been 45 minutes - why isn't that burger order pushed to the front?!? Everyone else had their meal except for my son...even when we got here there was a couple that left angry on how they were handling the hosting....terrible kitchen service...one server came up to our table and basically said the kitchen staff was just now making and gave off a "the kitchen doesn't care" and that she was going to text the owner on how the kitchen has handling this situation. The server was nice and gave us a discount, but honestly I could care less about the discount I wanted a nice night out with my family after a great weekend, but that's not the case dining here. I want to be clear here too...the food was actually good, the service was absolutely terrible. For the people reading this review...avoid this place at all cost...I just saw a server deliver a Burger to another table that was here way after us - so tell me, is my son not good enough to get a burger? Well...as we left, they delivered the burger to us in a to-go bag...unbelievable. I appreciate the apology and "discount" but this place was poorly run. I love Halcyon!!! A friend and I had cocktails outside in their little patio- super cute and quaint in the summer! My usual here though is the Smashburger. I don't even order another item now because this is so perfect! Either Truffle fries or Brussels as your side. Those truffle fries though gaaaaahhhhhhh! Delicious! I swear I had a blue cocktail called a Hail Mary? I can't ember the exact name- but I know my friend and I loved it! It's also incredibly reasonable to dine here. Harbor Halcyon wasn't that large of a restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised we were able to be seated quickly. I had recently started a gluten free diet before visiting and I'm usually a little disappointed with my options. At Harbor Halcyon I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger with sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, rosemary aioli, field greens on a gluten free bun. As well as a side of mac and cheese with gluten free noodles. Everything was delicious! So far I've found gluten free buns to have an odd texture which was not present in the gluten free bun I had at Harbor Halcyon. Also the mac and cheese was great. I really considered requesting a second order to go. Also our server was super friendly and likable. I wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out on here. Anyway I'm returning to Geneva-on-the-lake in a month and will definitely revisit to Harbor Halcyon. read more

The food was delicious. We were traveling through the area and we chose this restaurant for dinner. The decor was a little plain but clean and comfy. Both hubby and I had burgers which were excellent. The appetizer (homemade hummus and pita with veggies) came out and was good. Went there with friends last night. We had a very good service, and a great meal. All of us opted for a 'basket', I had the walleye, the others had shrimp. The walleye was perfectly done, crunchy, crispy coating with tender fish on the inside. The fries were also perfectly done, crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, with several of the little end pieces being just crunchy goodness. My companions had mixed drinks, which they both liked very much. I had a dark beer, which totally hit the spot. Would recommend to others to go here for a meal. Or go again. Definitely a keeper on our list of eateries when we come here for a get away weekend. read more

Visiting GOTL for a long weekend and this was one of our group's top meals! We picked Halcyon because one of my friends was looking for a gluten free option, and they have GF pasta. The restaurant is located in the Old Harbor district, with some street parking and a couple of public lots. It has a really cool vibe with board games scattered around and both indoor and outdoor seating. We didn't order drinks, but the drink menu was very creative and looked good! I had a Caesar salad with grilled salmon, and it was so good. A couple of fun additions to a normal Caesar were crispy brussles, some red onion, and spring mix rather than romaine. The salmon was well cooked, and I had a large portion! Very good! I also ordered a side of the garlic parm fries, because, balance. They were delicious! The fries were thick cut with crispy edges, super generous parm and parsley, and a wonderful garlic dipping sauce. Recommend. read more

We stopped in on New Years Eve and were so happy we did! By some miracle, we were able to get a table and were quickly given waters and the specials! We ordered the spinach dip as an appetizer, which had fresh piping hot pita and a strong sour cream base, which was unlike other dips I've tried. However, we both really enjoyed it and ran out of chips quickly. For our meals, we ordered a pasta dish and the shrimp basket. They were both filling, but nothing stood out. The cocktails were the true star of the show as they were delicious and CHEAP! I would encourage you to stop in for a drink as their menu was expansive! read more

After finding out our favorite restaurant in Ashtabula wasn't open (seems like the hours are getting less every year), we decided to try Harbor Halcyon. They are open 7 days a week and the times are more convenient for brunch if you choose. We were seated immediately and I happened to make a comment to the hostess that it was our anniversary not thinking anything about it. Our server came quickly and took our drink order, both wine pours were very generous. We told her that this was our first time here and she offered us several suggestions and specials. The menu has just about anything you can think of. I ordered the Mushroom Burger and my wife the Chicken Panini, both came with fries which you can upgrade for a small amount to truffle fries or garlic mashed potatoes. We both went for the fries which smell incredible. Meals came reasonably quickly being that it was 12:30 and pretty busy for a Tuesday. Both my burger and my wife's Panini was done to perfection. My only complaint was the plates were too small for the amount of food, but I adjusted. The surprise came when our server offered us a piece of pie for our anniversary totally forgetting I mentioned it! All in all it was a great new experience and we can't wait to return. COVID-19 Review OK, this was our last stop on our one drink, one app adventure while visiting the area. First, this street is awesome. I wish I had known how many cool restaurants there were here. You could have an entire little bar/restaurant hop right here on Bridge St. When we arrived at the restaurant I was really excited they offered outdoor seating. They closed the area down at 5PM, we arrived at 4:55. We were not able to be seated outdoors which was a bummer. Luckily, there weren't many people dining indoors. The drink menu, and food menu looked awesome. I would love to stop back in and try more of their menu items for sure! The girls and I ordered cocktails and unfortunately when mine was served, and I picked it up to drink it, there was a huge crack down the side of my cup which made the drink poor out all over the table. The bartender came to clean up the spillage but I was surprised that I wasn't offered another beverage, or at least a little to make up for the amount that spilled all over the table. We ordered the Truffle Parm Fries which were very, very good. The restaurant was clean, and our waitress wore her mask properly. If we were in the neighborhood again I would most certainly stop back in, and also plan to spend some time checking out Bridge St. and the other local pubs and restaurants located there. read more

This is our favorite spot in the Ashtabula harbor area. They are super welcoming, and provide top-notch service. We usually start with a crab cake appetizer. The burgers are our go-to meal items. I like the Texan, a bacon burger topped with onion rings and bbq sauce. My husband orders the Halcyon burger with bacon. My daughter likes the goat cheese burger. One thing we all like is their improvised version of an Arnold Palmer. They mix ice tea with lemonade, on the spot, and it's surprisingly consistent. A great place with reasonable prices. read more

We called ahead to inquire about gluten-free options. Once we confirmed the GF dishes, we were excited and confirmed the restaurant was open until 8 and said we'd be there shortly. We drove 25 min to get there at 7:35. After making us wait another 5 minutes at the front, someone came out and told us the kitchen was closed. I told the woman that we called ahead and confirmed they were open til 8 pm before making the drive, and all she said was, well you didn't talk to me. I always love it when I end up at a speakeasy in my travels. My hubby and I stumbled upon this one during our annual outing to the Ashtabula Beach Glass Festival. It's a very laid back atmosphere at Halcyon. It had a cozy, seat yourself, steampunk meets rustic kinda vibe. Dark and mysterious paintings graced the brick walls and some of the tables were made out of pipework. They occasionally have live music on certain nights. And they also have Taco Tuesday and a sushi night. The staff was incredible. They were all very much on point and constantly checking in on us without being too overbearing. The drink specials were unique and enticing. I started with Kyrstens Elderflower Cooler, a very refreshing gin based drink. Next we had the apple bruschetta. Who knew that a chunky apple cinnamon compote with a balsamic glaze and goat cheese over fresh bread would work so well? For our entrees we had the Steak black & blue salad and Caprese panini with a side of brussel sprouts. Everything was fresh and tasty. The new chef, a fella formerly from Cleveland, even came out to see how we enjoyed it all. They have a quaint, fenced in alley patio with many spots to chill and huge games go play. I would consider this place family friendly, as long as children are well behaved because the restaurant as a whole is a bit small. One thing that really struck a chord with me is how much this establishment cares about their patrons. The devil is in the details, right down to the special message I found addressed to the female patrons in the restroom. I can't reveal exactly what it said, but, ladies, this establishment really does go the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable and happy during your visit. BACON!!! Had the best BLT here this afternoon! Loaded with the bacon, fresh tomato & pressed in the panini machine. Good fries too & 3 Mich ultras. Beautiful place I love these kind of buildings. Happening street, I've been to the steakhouse next door. Just bc I can't remember the name without looking it up doesn't mean I'm lying HA. It was good too. Gunar is the boss man & happens to be our buddy in the shipping business. Happy to roll into town in my overpowered lawnmower Porsche 914 to check out his joint, have a nice lunch, hit the beach (walnut beach which was great for beachcombing) and do the lakeshore cruise-in after. Our first trip here delightfully surprised us in all of the best ways! We found the staff to be super personable and friendly, the environment modern enough yet still very cozy and historic, and above all, the food to be absolutely incredible (and very reasonably priced)! We shared the Brussel sprout Caesar salad and by letting our server know we wanted to share that as an appetizer the kitchen prepared two (extremely generous) plates. The Brussel sprout shavings were crisp and perfectly seasoned, which complimented the fresh field greens and other toppings. The dressing, served on the side (always appreciated) was impeccable. The cocktail menu, while not high-end craft, provided a flavor profile for everyone. The champagne and cranberry cocktail was a generous portion and perfectly mixed. The beer on tap was exquisite and unique - a draft from California that blurred the lines between a citrus IPA but with the smoothness and mild sweetness of a Belgian or lager. We both ordered burgers - one of which we did up as a Impossible burger. They were EXCEPTIONAL. I've tried a lot of burger places, including craft burger joints, and these two smash burgers were the best. The seasonings, the perfect grilling and presentation and toppings made this a mouth watering experience that we cannot stop thinking about. The thick cut fresh fries were out of this world and served with malt vinegar on the side (pro move!). We also upgraded one of our sides to the Mac and cheese and it was out of this world. A generous portion with enough to bring home and a velvety, rich, flavorful sauce that stuck to the perfectly cooked spiral noodles. We cannot recommend this little establishment enough! The vibe, menu lineup, and offerings are some of the best around short of going to Cleveland or Pittsburgh. The proximity to the harbor and beach are also a plus. If you have issues with a loud room, then you might wish to come here during off hours. This in an older brick building without insulation, so when the place if full of happy diners it tends to get a little noisy. My friend had a delicious burger, but I wanted fish. It looked and smelled delicious, but the center was raw. The waitress immediately rushed it back and since I am of the type that I don't want it cooked again or heated up I chose to just eat the nice side salad. Was I surprised when the waitress told me no charge and even brought us a big bowl of home made chips with truffle oil (DELICIOUS). I definitely would go there again. We dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon about one o'clock for lunch. The spread the lunch crowd was just beginning to clear out and we found a table easily. We ordered the mushroom mushroom Swiss hamburger Burger and my friend ordered ordered fish-and-chips. It did not take long for the meal to come to our table and we dug in. The hamburger was of good quality and it was cooked the way I like medium rare. The fries could have been cooked a little longer but they were OK. Unfortunately my friend who ordered the fish-and-chips the fish was raw on the inside. As I was almost done at this point point it made no sense to have the fish replaced. The waitress did bring us another bowl of the Truffle parmesan cheese potato chips that were actually really good it's good, perhaps a little heavy on the truffle oil. We were pleasantly surprised is that the entire fish-and-chips meal was removed from the bill so the wait staff did the absolute correct the thing it was not the waitress's fault that the kitchen didn't cook the fish long enough. read more

I came here on Monday the 6th of July with my family. The service was very slow and their kitchen was incredibly bogged down despite the place being relatively empty. After waiting close to 45 minutes, our food finally arrived. I ordered the chicken tenders and a side of macaroni and cheese with chorizo. The chicken tenders were surprisingly good but the rest of the meal was extremely average. In conclusion, I would return here to give it a second chance. I have a feeling things may be different on the second go around and it may have been an off night for the kitchen & staff. read more
