Fitzgerald's Flask
John T.

Although we had dinner plans elsewhere, we stopped in for some cocktails so we could check out the menu and the atmosphere. I was so impressed with everything that I almost canceled our reservations at the other place so I could stay here. This is a combination wine shop, cocktail lounge, and restaurant. The restaurant and bar is upstairs. It is attractively decorated in a style that goes well with the historic nature of the building. There is also some seating outside. We sat at the bar. There is a large and interesting list of cocktails. I had the Fitzgerald's Flask which was a mixture of Gin, club soda, lime and cucumber served in a flask. A perfect summer cocktail! As we sipped our drinks we perused the menu. This is a small scratch kitchen and so the menu changes frequently with many daily specials. We saw some of the dishes and they looked and smelled great...next time we are staying for dinner! Of course, with a wine shop downstairs, you can easily find something nice to pair with your meal. I was pleasantly surprised by this place and can't wait to come back.

This was our first night in Ashtabula and it's off to a great start. The restaurant was very welcoming. You could tell they were taking Covid very seriously and gave us a tour of the place and where we wanted to sit. Lots of options inside and out with plenty of room for social distancing. The house wine was very good and many other choices if you wanted a nice bottle. The menu had good choices and daily specials. I had the special beet salad and a chicken bacon flatbread. Hubby had linguini with two huge yummy meatballs The service was prompt and the food came out quickly. . For dessert, a chocolate assortment from the shop across the street and another glass of wine. We look forward to returning soon. This is a hidden gem.

Lobster bisque. Delicious!

Wonderful experience! Great food and service! Had lobster bisque, shrimp tempura, margarita flatbread and butter cake for dessert. Will definitely be back!

This is rare? Ate more than I wanted I was hungry & the waitress didn't come out for 25 min after delivering the food.

I wanted to like the place. We got there for a 5:15 reservation because they were going to be really busy at 6, which turned out to be a baby shower with 6 people. Hardly busy. Very slow service. Ordered my steak medium rare and it came out well done. Unfortunately couldn't notify the waiter of this because she didn't even come within sight for the entirety of my meal. I ate 3/4 of it and then she finally came out. I told her what was wrong and just got an apathetic-sounding "sorry." I asked her to take it back to the chef so they knew I wasn't lying. She came back and said it wasn't the chef's fault...the other waiter rang it in wrong. The manager told her yo say, "I'm sorry. It will never happen again. Couple of things here.. 1) it will never happen again because I'm not coming back 2) don't pass it off as your manager's apologies. Own it. You are the face of the restaurant. 3) mistakes happen, but this is why you come back to check on the table after a couple of minutes. If a restaurant can't handle 1 table of 6 and 2 tables of 2, then they really shouldn't be operating. It was my anniversary dinner and wanted to go somewhere nice. We didn't stay for dessert because we didn't want to give them any more of our money after paying for a fairly high-end priced dinner.

Visited Lago for a bachelorette party and had an incredible experience from start to finish. They…read moreset up decorations for the bride's arrival, closed off a section just for our group, and even took time to sit with us and explain the different wines so we knew what we'd enjoy most. We ordered several cheese boards and a chocolate board to snack on while sipping, and they were absolutely beautiful and delicious (so good we took leftovers home!). The atmosphere was classy, clean, and incredibly relaxing; perfect for our special celebration. I worked with Rissa regarding our reservation and decorations, and she truly went above and beyond my expectations. Every woman in our group, especially the bride, was extremely impressed and satisfied. I would absolutely recommend Lagos and can't wait to come back to try their dinner offerings!!!

I had a table in the corner and got settled in with a book and ordered a Hugo Spritz. The cocktail was refreshing and light, and I really enjoyed it. I decided on a Cesar Salad, nothing too special there, but it was a generous size and fresh greens. I ordered a bowl of mussles, again, generous sized portion, and I liked that they had 2 preparations - garlic and white wine (always a good choice) or Diablo, and I went with the spicy tomato! The sauce was great, kind of spicy, with good crusty bread to dunk. The mussels themselves were OK, not the best quality seafood I've ever had, but still a nice dinner. And I also had the fried ravioli, which I cannot resist, ever, and dunked it in the spicy sauce. The house bread was a really nice foicaccia, with a confit garlic and butter to smear all over it. Really great. The service was excellent! She was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and also great at timing, kind of letting me hang out and enjoy my dinner. I'd probably go back to try some other fun menu items, and their chocolate and cocktail (and chocolate cocktail) menu is intriguing.

The beet salad wasn't my fav but it was ok. The chicken I would not recommend because it had literally no flavor and the whole thing was covered in arugula why My boyfriend loved the burger though! And I thought the wine was good This place wins in terms of ambiance, it's really gorgeous and feels exclusive. I just wish the food matched that vibe. I'd come back for their brunch for sure in the summer, I hear they might have bottomless mimosas??

We placed our drink order and waited...out came 2 glasses of wine, then the third and then the beer that was ordered. Also asked for lemon wedges for the water which came after the beer. Placed appetizers order of crab cakes and smash burger. Waited a bit and then placed order for two salads as part of our dinners. Salads came out before the appetizers. I must say the crab cakes were delicious (maybe not $26 delicious), the smash burger was ok, very greasy and fries were not very hot. My biggest disappointment was my entree, Parmesan Crusted Seabass which is one of my all time favorites that I order when I see it on the menu. The plate looked delicious but looks can be deceiving. The Seabass was more breaded than Parmesan crusted. Usually When I order this it is Seabass topped with shredded Parmesan cheese and baked, this was not that! Then the sauce that covered the spinach and potatoes and lobster pieces had red chili flakes added(which is not noted on the menu) which added "heat" to the dish that I was not expecting nor was I able to eat. For $55 I was very disappointed. No, I didn't mention this at the time as we were dining with family and I didn't want to disrupt the dinner by sending it back. Such a simple thing to note on the menu description! The short rib was the best entree of the table, nice portion and delicious sauce. The filet was tiny, maybe 4 oz. Definitely not anywhere near 8 in as stated on the menu and it was hard to find with all of the broccoli on the plate. We will be visiting family here again but definitely won't be back here. On another note, the music they were playing would be more suitable to a dance club than a venue such as this.
