I had a lovely solo dinner here. I did make a reservation on a June Friday, but it was actually pretty quiet. I had a table in the corner and got settled in with a book and ordered a Hugo Spritz. The cocktail was refreshing and light, and I really enjoyed it. I decided on a Cesar Salad, nothing too special there, but it was a generous size and fresh greens. I ordered a bowl of mussles, again, generous sized portion, and I liked that they had 2 preparations - garlic and white wine (always a good choice) or Diablo, and I went with the spicy tomato! The sauce was great, kind of spicy, with good crusty bread to dunk. The mussels themselves were OK, not the best quality seafood I've ever had, but still a nice dinner. And I also had the fried ravioli, which I cannot resist, ever, and dunked it in the spicy sauce. The house bread was a really nice foicaccia, with a confit garlic and butter to smear all over it. Really great. The service was excellent! She was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and also great at timing, kind of letting me hang out and enjoy my dinner. This review is coming from a full blooded Italian. First meal there about a Month ago we had the Aglio with chicken, the garlic in the olive oil garlic Aglio sauce was burnt, the chicken was tasteless. Gave it another try a few days ago, ordered the Chicken Picatta, it was buttered noodles with no garlic or seasonings of any kind, the chicken was breaded not seasoned it was gross. The bread was bread and the salad was a salad. The food there is far from Italian. Lago food compared to the Olive Garden, the Olive Garden is 200 times better at least the OG food is flavorfull for what it is. For $90.00 for service for 2 I would rather eat Chef Boyardee. Get me once shame on you, get me twice shame on me, never again. read more

We had the pleasure of experiencing their five-course dinner, complemented by a wine pairing, which was both delightful and enjoyable at the price of $117 per person. 1. For the appetizer, we enjoyed fried olives and a stuffed peppers filled with goat cheese. This dish was light and flavorful, perfectly paired with a generous serving of chilled red wine. An additional app was given of fresh tomatoes accompanied by baby arugula. 3. The second course showcased rigatoni pasta served with short rib and a truffle cream sauce, which was nothing short of delicious. 4. For the main course, we had our Delmonico steak medium rare with mushrooms. It was good & tender Cooked to how we liked. 5. Finally we concluded with desert assortment and paired with desert wine. Visited Lago for a bachelorette party and had an incredible experience from start to finish. They set up decorations for the bride's arrival, closed off a section just for our group, and even took time to sit with us and explain the different wines so we knew what we'd enjoy most. We ordered several cheese boards and a chocolate board to snack on while sipping, and they were absolutely beautiful and delicious (so good we took leftovers home!). The atmosphere was classy, clean, and incredibly relaxing; perfect for our special celebration. I worked with Rissa regarding our reservation and decorations, and she truly went above and beyond my expectations. Every woman in our group, especially the bride, was extremely impressed and satisfied. I would absolutely recommend Lagos and can't wait to come back to try their dinner offerings!!! read more

Enoteca Lago restaurant is a combination of a casual tiki bar on one side and a higher-end Italian restaurant on the other. It's nestled into a Beach community in Ashtabula. A bit challenging to get to from Cleveland, but nice on a sunny day, or lazy day when you don't have any other plans like we didn't on my birthday weekend. Upon entering you see a very welcoming seating area and wine display. Lago makes several of their own wines and then carries other producers. While they are planning to grow their own grapes right now they buy from local producers. My family and I went for the Mothers Day Brunch. We started off with great brunch drinks including a very interesting "special" breakfast margarita. Ask for this next time! We ordered burgers including the seafood burger. Everything was great and our server was extremely personable. Look forward to visiting again in the summer time! They had me at home made pasta! We were looking for a nice place to hold a memorial luncheon in honor of our Mother. A friend suggested Lago because she had eaten dinner there and liked the food a lot. Best suggestion I've gotten in quite some time. We had over 50 attendees and there was plenty of room for everyone, adults and children of alike. And we had room to spare. Very pleased with the facility - it's a perfect place for a gathering of any kind - shower, wedding reception, graduation, etc. We had our event in July but I'd chose Lago again anytime of the year. Now for the food! Each and every appetizer was delicious and we sampled a nice variety that afternoon. Our entrees were excellent because, well, HOME MADE PASTA! Same with side salads - again great quality food. We had a few different of dessert choices and were not disappointed - each one was very delicious with a fabulous presentation. The servers did a great job taking care of a large party and getting the food out in a timely manner. We were happy with the wine and mixed drinks as well. Management was very easy to work with in the planning process and implemented the plan perfectly when the time came for our event. For me, the event was worry-free -- what more can you ask? You need to try Lago - not just for a special event but for a wonderful Italian food that will keep you coming back again and again. Next time I'm in town, will make it a point to stop in for dinner at least once! read more

If you are longing for some authentic Italian cuisine, then you need to come here. The restaurant has a beautiful, classy interior that is very warm and welcoming. They have an extensive wine list that is NE Ohio focused along with a craft cocktail list. I had a Negroni Sbagliato. It was the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. Next came the arancino. Honestly, this was the best one that I have ever eaten. The flavors, the fry, and sauce were spot on. My husband enjoyed the spaghetti and then the chicken. Each item was better than the next one. I enjoyed the sea scallops with the pea puree. Pure heaven. The scallops were perfectly cooked. The prosciutto adds the right amount of saltiness, and then the pea puree is smooth, bright, and hits the right balance for this dish. It is well worth the drive. I can't wait to go back. read more

When we arrived for our reservation, we learned that a few staff members had called off and the wait time for food would be longer than normal. But the owner and his wife had stepped in to help and they took great care of us. While we waited for our meal we were served roasted red peppers stuffed with goat cheese that were delightful. We immediately loved the ambiance when we walked into Lago. It has an upscale feel without an over-the-top pretentious vibe. The service was excellent. Our server helped us choose wines we would like for our flights and gave us suggestions for a wine to try that we normally wouldn't have tried. All the wines were excellent. Our server checked on us regularly, as did who I assume was the manager. Both were knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. We will definitely return. read more

We had high hopes for this restaurant. Unfortunately we did not have a pleasant experience. First off, it took us about 25 minutes to get cocktails. We had to pay $10 for a plate of bread, which seemed excessive. I've been to many Italian restaurants in Ashtabula, and mostly downtown Cleveland. Almost every one of them gives complimentary bread. The appetizers were small and overpriced and took forever to come out. We finally order our dinners and order more drinks. They did not have the bottle of wine we ordered, which is fine but I have heard from others that they've had the same experience. Just print out a daily wine list if this is going to be the case. Our entrees were decent. They were under seasoned so we requested extra parmesan cheese and salted everything. Someone at our table ordered a side of meatballs and sausage with their meal. They did not come out until we were getting the check. They did not take them off of the bill. We had to ask for everything from water, ready to order, more drinks, the check. At a nice restaurant I expect to the wait staff to check in and set the pace for the meal. I do not mind a long drawn out dinner if you keep the drinks flowing and deliver great service. *update 7/17/25 - I am not making the bread situation up. We weren't offered free bread. We paid $10 for the Focaccia bread which probably isn't even on the menu anymore. Honestly that was such a minute detail of the entire experience anyways. My husband and I went on a Saturday evening around 6:00. We sat at the bar, there was one table that 2 people were sitting at, the restaurant was empty. We loved the atmosphere. Our bartender was sweet and kind. We ordered a full dinner plus a appetizer and a beer for each of us. She brought out the bread and we enjoyed that along with the marinated olives. After 30 minutes we asked about our dinner. Our girl told us, it should be out shortly, she would check. She came back and said their manager walked out and she was trying to stand in and apologized. My husband was starving when we walked in so he was getting a little impatient, but never said anything. Another 30 minutes passed and still no dinner. At 7:15, and after 75 minutes waiting for dinner, we told her we were leaving. We paid our $28.00 bill, (2 Miller Lites a piece and 6 olives). Plus a tip. It would have been nice for her to at least cut us a break on a drink. We will never go back. Such a shame, we just moved here from Pittsburgh and thought we found a nice place to go for a good dinner. Posting 1 star for our bartender. read more

You HAVE to go!! They are only a few minutes from Ashtabula Harbor and Geneva-on-the-Lake. The food is delicious and the wine offerings are truly special. The house made pasta is somewhat rare in the area, and it is SO good! They haven't been open long and are a bit off the beaten path, but so WORTH the effort!! We are so grateful to have another fantastic dining option in the area. The wine selection is excellent - lots of local wines and some special blends you will find only at Lago Enoteca, along with a broader selection from other areas if that's what you're looking for. Chris, the owner, spent time sharing information about each of the wines, and brought us samples. He is knowledgeable about the wines in the region, and about the wine making process. This is our second time here at Lago's and it was truly a fantastic experience. We really wanted to test the kitchen so we ordered the 5 course Degustazione dinner for two. The chef made delicious Fried olives, stuffed peppers, tomato burrata, a scallop appetizer, 2 kinds of fantastic pastas, and an amazing hanger steak with greens. We had a wonderful bottle of The Primitivo wine. The food as well as our waitress/staff was special. . We look forward to another creative experience there soon! read more

I had the best Lenten special for 19.95 at Lago. I had the fried cod with perogi for 19.95. I went there when they first opened and didn't care for the menu. They have changed it. It is the best fried cod in the area. I will definitely be going there more often. read more

I stopped there one night after a meeting to just have a glass of wine. A couple was sitting at the bar and had one of those many course meals, and they said it was excellent, so I decided to have an appetizer (suggested by the barmaid) it was very a pear concoction, which was heavenly. The wine was excellent (also suggested by the barmaid). The owner/chef stopped to say hello and I will just have to go back. I have been coming to this building ever since I was a kid, as we lived across the street where the parking lot now is. I have been to every restaurant that has ever been in there. It is now really beautiful inside and that food was truly imaginative and really good...so yes I def recommend and I will stop again for that 5 course dinner...Can't wait read more

We had a 630pm reservation for 4. It took about 20 mins + to get our drinks. We put in the appetizer orders and they were okay. She never came back for the main food order and when she did, she asked what we wanted for dessert and we never even ate yet. No offer of anything to tie us over on the house while we waited so long. Even bread or crackers would have been nice. I've never been to an Italian restaurant that doesn't serve bread. The pasta bolognese was good, but pricey and a small serving. Our server then stopped and said it would be a few minutes before she could get to us. She didn't offer to get us water or wine or anything. When she finally got to us she didn't have paper to write down our order on. I would expect better for a high end restaurant. The explanation of the meal menu and the chef's mystery menu was not very clear. I had ordered the Cotoletta di Pollo which was breaded chicken with lettuce and Parmesan cheese with Caesar vinaigrette dressing. They never gave me the dressing. Pricing was on high side for portions given. Did not like the seating. Don't like being involved with other dinner parties. I'm sorry, had to try it out, but was not impressed.
