While visiting my cousins in Ashtabula, they said that we had to try Alessandro's since it's the most delicious and authentic Italian in the area. They were right. We loved it. The service is also amazing. They're always so warm and kind. We have been there a few times and have had nothing but delicious meals. One time they had a bruschetta sampler that was fantastic. I wish they'd have it again. I've had the gnocchi Gorgonzola and it was good but not as flavorful as I would have liked. I much prefer the tortellini. Love the red sauce and the pasta is soft and delicious. My cousins also like the chicken Parmesan. Anything is delicious. Next time, I'm going to try something else. I cannot speak highly enough about the work Alessandro (and his team) have done here for so many years. My wife and I came to this spot over a decade ago, and just recently introduced it to a group of friends while we were up in the area on a winery weekend excursion. A super small and intimate space, it is really fun to watch Alessandro perfect his craft in such a small kitchen...honestly it is amazing! Service was very pleasant and attentive, although meal prep time is longer than normal due to the unique nature of this restaurant...but trust me, it is worth the wait! We each started with a small house salad while we sipped our wine and munched on fresh bread. Then came the calamari, served in a small bowl of herbed rich tomato-based broth with chunks of crusty bread for sopping up the delicious sauce. For my main dish, I chose one of the nightly specials which was veal osso buco. It was so meaty, so rich and full of flavor that it was hard to put my fork down! Everyone around the table raved about their meal choice, and we all left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. We really enjoyed our meal! We had a perfect view of the water and it was a gorgeous day. Our server Dion was so helpful and he taught us a lot about the restaurant and the chef, who is his dad! He had great suggestions for our meals since we had never been there before. We were served our bread and drinks right away. The salad with creamy Parmesan dressing was delicious. It was entertaining being able to see what was going on in the open kitchen. Everyone in the restaurant was smiling and having a very good time. The staff was all very friendly and welcoming. Our food was tasty and piping hot. The portions were generous and in fact I had to take home half of my meal, which was the pasta Mille, with sausage and chicken. I got the linguine. We also made room for dessert, trying the tiramisu and the cannoli. The tiramisu is very light and creamy. The cannoli was the right balance of creamy sweet and crunchy. Local Italian restaurant that serves homemade pasta & dinners. The owner has made every dinner coming out of the kitchen for the last 25 years! His daughter waited on us was SUPER friendly & helpful. I had the Salsiccia Alla Cacciatora & it was fantastic! She had Petto Di Pollo Alla Roberto & loved it. Also had Crostini With Mushroom Pate for an appetizer. You should try it! Lastly, a cannoli split between us. The dining room is just...eh, but the food is probably the best Italian food I've ever had. Seriously. If you're near here, you've got to eat here! We have been going to Alessandro's for many years, almost since he first opened. Every meal we have enjoyed there has been carefully prepared, beautifully served and most of all, delicious! Since I developed a wheat allergy he has made sure I was never served anything that would give me a bad reaction. The servers are wonderful, friendly and efficient. A family run restaurant who knows what works . They know their regular patrons as well, calling them by name. Still, they treat everyone like family and friends. I was hesitant to try the lasagna though my friend did and it was perfect. Not the giant blocks of noodles and cheese, instead a nice portion cooked to perfection. I need to order that next time. Everyone loved their meals, eggplant Parmesan, buratta salad, gnocchi Gorgonzola. Sizes were enough that I took home leftovers for lunch the next day. Oh, and wine. read more

My husband & I came for dinner on an out of town trip after spending the day across the street at the lake. Showed up a little after 6:30 & had a small wait to be seated, which in a smaller building is totally normal & not a problem for us. Got in & seated & our server Giuseppe was super sweet & helpful with any questions we had. Food was amazing. Top tier absolute best we could have had. Ambience of the restaurant itself was so homey. Have been coming here yearly for over a decade as we have family that live in the area. Alessandro used to be cheerful and welcoming; this time he didn't even crack a smile. We ordered 2 Walleye "specials," 1 Halibut "special," a shrimp pasta dish, and butter noodles for our 4 yr old daughter. The 6oz Walleye was bland and the vegetables consisted of 4 small potato slices and 3 zucchini slices. The salad was a few pieces of lettuce and a slice of tomato. The portion sizes are pathetically small, and the $35.99 per meal cost is an utter rip off. The Halibut was a similarly small portion of fish and vegetables, but a price tag of $37.99. The pasta dish was $21.95, and only had 4 small shrimp in it, 2 of which were not completely peeled. The butter noodles consisted of warm noodles with a slab of unmelted butter in a bowl, not even sautéed, which they had the audacity to charge $10.95 for. In total, the bill came out to $152.76 for 4 meals, no appetizers, no drinks, and no dessert. The food was not worth half of that. We've dined at many high end restaurants, but this takes the cake for most overpriced and underwhelming. Will likely never go back. read more

Went to this restaurant for the first and last time. Went with a party of eight. They convinced us that they could seat us. They put two different size tables together. My husband and I had to sit on a corner. Food was the worst i ever had I ordered pasta with clams. Very small portion. The noodles were all broken and i had six clams. Salads are served in a dessert bowl with just a few green lettuce leave and a tiny sliver of tomato. My husband had pasta Roberto. Sun dried tomatoes were bitter and the chicken and veggies were bland. Plus our table was right across the kitchen, which was all open for anyone to see. Because of all of the positive reviews, we decided to try this place. We arrived around 7:15 pm and were told it would be a 20 minute wait. No problem for great food, we would wait 20 minutes. Cute place with a little view of the lake. We knew what we wanted so we ordered as soon as the waitress came over to get our drink order. Thank goodness we got our appetizer and salads soon after we sat down because fast forward to 9:00 pm we still did not have our entrees. We eat out often and I can't remember the last time it took almost 1 1/2 hours to actually get the main course. Very disappointing. After all that, we felt the food tasted alright, but we expected more. I really wanted to like this place but a bad experience for us. read more

If I had an Italian grandmother, I'd imagine that this would be what her house would be like. I love the open kitchen (with the actual Alessato make a more intimate experience. Checkered tablecloths and a chalkboard with daily specials add to the experience. Soft, fresh bread was brought out a moment after we ordered. There are about 20 tables of various sizes which were all full - a great sign. There were also some folks waiting for a table and others picking up to-go orders. We knew that this was the spot to be! I opted for a house salad with creamy Parmesan dressing, and for my entree, tortellini with meat sauce. I also added a side of grilled zucchini after seeing some going to a neighboring table! Hubby got the meat lasagna. Everything was delicious and very sensible portions. We did not have dessert but the table next to us did and it looked absolutely divine. I live a couple doors down, new to the neighborhood and ordered take out one night. I was excited as the locals seemed to enjoy it, but coming in- my order wasn't ready, there was a lot of younger servers who were getting scolded by the cook. As a former server myself, That made me uncomfortable. I noted they had good wines, but I stood by the door waiting for my order, it's really tight so I kept getting jostled. There's really not a place to wait. I just ordered spaghetti. I waited about 15 minutes, and felt uncomfortable as I left almost 20 mins after I ordered. Maybe I caught them on a bad night? I got my order and walked home, but the food was way less tasty than I expected- Im not a chef by far, but I felt I could've done better at home. That said, I was very disappointed. I've since ordered up the street at Purola's and I had 2 great experiences there. I might try this one again in the future, but the first impression was not so good. read more

This is one of the worst rip off restaurants I've ever encountered.. The prices are way over the top for a diner, secondly the helpings are tiny. I had swordfish, tasteless with no spices and 4 tiny half potatoes and 4 small zucchini without spices. A total joke. My guests food was similar. We ordered Tiramasu, when really it was lady fingers with ready whip, and get this 7.50 each. I hate trashing any restaurant, they work so hard, but this place is just a total rip off. And we waited almost an hour for our food. I expect so much more when the bill is over 120 dollars for three people for dinner. read more

Got a table and waited nearly 15 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. Several of us ordered soft drinks and they all tasted weak. Sauce on my spaghetti was all chunks of tomato without any real sauce. I don't like big chunky tomatoes and usually there is still sauce on the noodles, but not here.
