Without the recommendation from a local store I would not have given this place a second glance. Outside it looks like a combo biker bar-lizard lounge. Inside it's a fantastically warm, inviting, local eatery. Filled with mostly locals. Brooke was our terrific server and gave us outstanding service. There is something for everyone on the menu and we chose the meatball pizza. OMG, this pizza teleported us right back to fabulous Philadelphia pizza from 1980's. Crust was light, fresh crisp buttery bread. The sauce was rich, slightly sweet, well spiced with fresh tomato taste. But the CHEESE, OMG, was the star. Winner, winner pizza! Where's my change? The waitress "rounded up" feeling that was ok. Well, not only is that practice unprofessional, it is also illegal. I asked her if she forgot our change.. her response was"no, I didn't forget, if the customer asks for it I will give it to them"!!!! I couldn't believe it. I told her yes, I want my change. GREAT BURG o my goodness what a great burger! Med well bacon double cheese burg $8 w fries. Holy Toledo it was huge and fantastic! See pic. Been here a million times I remember doing the coal boats over there & coming here for a siesta (I.e. get drunk). Shipping was a romantic business back in the day. The bum boat used to pull up Alongside those CSL boats and it was fun. Didn't know it was a bar until our surveyor Melzo said come on boys let's get a drink. RIP maritime Mel. One of a kind. Had lots of chowder here over the years but we don't get a lot of boats in Bula no more. Cabbage rolls for dinner. The bar has the face shields hanging from the ceiling which is fine but. WHAM...!!! Wow! What a delicious meal! I sauntered into the Crow's Nest for the first time this afternoon. What a great experience! The place was very clean, the restrooms, immaculate, and the staff was attentive and friendly. And I could tell this was just a good old fashion American neighborhood bar and restaurant. I ordered the open-faced meatball sandwich. I also had french fries. The french fries were the fresh cut ones, which were quite delicious, better than 90% of the french fries I've had other restaurants throughout my life. I dipped those and a side of mayonnaise, and those alone were awesome. When I received the open-faced meatball sandwich I immediately loved the aroma of the sauce. I wanted to eat a spoonful of just that! This was no average out-of-the jar sauce, it was incredible, like something from an Italian grandma. I took the first bite, and the chew of the bread, the flavor of the meatballs, the delicious provolone cheese, and the (later, I learned, fresh house-made) sauce made me wish I had the honor of being from Ashtabula. Surprisingly nice stop off the highway in middle of nowhere. Had a business lunch, seated instantly. Server was quick and she was nice. My colleague had Fish sandwich which was twice the size of bun! I had Crispy chicken salad which was also humongous. Tons of chicken and honey mustard was tasty. Great value on the sizes. Plus she threw in a few pieces of bread for me. She talked us into splitting the Chocolate Lasagna. That was a great move since it was like a little taste of sublime. Highly recommend. Everything was good, Fine service with simple decor. The restaurant has a variety of dishes including Italian, pizza, and burgers plus yummy daily specials. They are always busy, which shows that the locals know the best place to eat in Ashtabula. I have never been disappointed, and take our guests to eat here when they visit. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. It is very reasonable to eat here. Located at the North end of OH State Route 11 and Ohio State Route 531 in Ashtabula, Ohio. It is a great place to stop and get a meal for Lunch or dinner. The service here is impeccable. The food was out fairly quick, even though it was a busy lunch hour. The waitresses were attentive. I asked for extra ranch for my salad and I got four total cups of ranch. The food was very tasty. The ambiance is open floor plan. They have tvs to watch sports and baseball games. They also have beer and specialty drinks. For some menu examples, they have a 1/4th Pound Hot Dog, Scrod Dinners, Giant Haddock and Cod Sandwiches, wings, Italian fare and much more. A great restaurant and staff! A wonderful place to eat with family or friends, play KENO and watch some sports. One of the only places with an open dining room (circa February 2021, in case you are reading this in a hopefully COVID-free future). This is my dad's favorite place to eat in Ashtabula. It's honestly kind of a time-warp, food and décor wise. If you are from Ashtabula, you know this place and are probably pissed at me for giving it a low rating. I'm not saying the place is bad, its okay. Stick to the burgers and fried seafood, and you really can't go wrong. I've had their fried perch and clam-strips in the past, which totally meet the standard. Has the stuffed shells with meatballs the other day, and it was pretty God-awful. The shells were stuffed with soupy ricotta cheese and slathered in ketchup pretending to be spaghetti sauce. On the other hand, my dad loves their Tuesday spaghetti special. I still recommend you stay away from their "Italian" dishes. If you are a foodie from out of town, visiting the historic Ashtabula Harbor, I would recommend that you don't waste your time. It does not compare well to restaurants in larger markets, such as Cleveland... or Youngstown even. The food is not anything special. There are waaaaaay better options down in the Harbor. However, if you are looking for just a regular 'ol burger, at a pretty good price at a pretty decent old-timey sports bar, then this place is fine. read more

Service was great. Menu looks great. But seafood dinner shouldn't include deep fried frozen fish fillet squares. Even the pasta was bad. But they have a great location so I'm sure that drives in business. I think the waitress recommended pepperoni bites? Horrible, absolutely horrible! But she's young so what can you say. It's been a few weeks and none of us really wants to remember that place. But I can tell you that the server was young and she hustled. She forgot a few times, but they were busy with locals. I have previously been here and it wasn't that great of an experience. But, tonight I decided to give it a second chance. I sat in the bar area. The bartender came and got my drink and food order. Fairly quickly. The place was decently full with regulars , everyone seemed to know each other. Anyway, I got my food was pipping Hot, burned my mouth with the breaded mushrooms, and the fries. The only complain I have was the size of t he order of mushrooms was small other than that. The food was good. Next time I will try the pizza. read more

Well, this was an excellent surprise. In good old Ashtabula there seems to be a bevy of great local eateries. On this work trip I took the advice of my trainees and decided to give Ronick's Crows Nest a shot. The building on the outside was well kept but still very unassuming. Upon entering you have a choice to make. A) go left into one of the darkest, low lit bars I've ever seen for $1.25 domestic bottles or B) go right into a very plainly decorated, but spotlessly clean restaurant for some great Italian food. The sign read "please wait to be seated" but my waitress was already coming for the door to seat my before I had both feet in. I was asked "where would you like to sit?"...., whhhhhaaaat? That was very cool. I didn't want to sit by the door. As soon as I sat she took my drink order and gave me a menu. When she returned with my soda she got my order. I ordered meat tortalinni with meatballs and some mozzarella sticks. The sticks came out fast but may have been slightly bland. Still good though..... She then brought out homemade Italian bread with real butter. It was amazing!!! The tortalinni was amazing too! The meatballs were almost sweet even.
