I love this local tavern for its food, beverage selections, and atmosphere. The wings and burgers are awesome. The Tuesday Happy Meal is a great deal. read more

We gave this place our third and final try today. Service is horrendous. Today, after 45 minutes waiting for our food ( which was part of their specials) we paid for our drinks and left. We were never spoken to while we were waiting. No"gee, I'm sorry about the wait".... nothing. She would not make eye contact with us as she went by.We will not try here again . Three strikes. read more

Wow!! Great food and interesting menu choices. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't really busy at lunch time. We had the zucchini fries - excellent. Main dish was grilled chicken Sami and search sandwich both with homemade fries on the side ‍ delicious!!! Chicken was tender and moist the fish flakey and tender. Inside was clean, tidy and not congested. Had a beautiful outdoor patio that looked welcoming but it was a little to warm that day. The menu also has specialty drinks and foods. read more

This was my third time at Avonia. I come here just for the wings because my friend, who was raised in Erie, says they are the best wings in the world. This time, we decided to sit at the bar. Tracy (barmaid) was very personable, and the wings were great. It's important to understand that every batch of wings is unique. They never taste the same, even if you ask for the same sauce. This is a good thing because it's always a surprise that they taste so good. I'll be coming back again!! read more

First experience tonight: 10/10 - awesome. We sat on the bar/tavern side, and noticed a separate casual dining area. Both sides very clean, nicely decorated- good vibes. Our server was very friendly and attentive, eager to show excitement for the food for us first-timers. The food was delicious and well executed, head to toe. Well blended, seasoned, seared thick Tavern burgers with a great bun and toppings. Fries/Chips both crispy, well seasoned, and fresh. French onion soup was delicious and rich, served in a nice crock with perfectly melted cheese. Server brought out free ranch in a communal squirt bottle- nice touch instead of paying $1 for a small plastic 2oz dressing container. Will be back to try wings and explore the menu in other ventures. Excellent bar/tavern food and vibes! read more

Their quality and quantity of food is "10 stars." We have NEVER had any service issues but ONCE, 9 yrs ago. The 'waitress' explained the kitchen and short help issues, she gave us 2 rounds of free booze ! In the dining 'business' there is always SOMEONE who calls in sick if they call in at all. Then U R short-staffed. "We" understand that and work with the people who are there. We are ALWAYS kind and cordial to the help. Put yourself in "the other person's shoes." It's that easy and you will be PAID BACK in kind. Avonia Tavern is a "10" star winner. read more

The food is well executed tavern fare. I had a nice broiled fish and my son adored the chicken fingers. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. The overall layout is sort of modern tavern/sports bar but nice and clean. read more

DO NOT get wood fired pizza !!! Boneless wings were horrible as well. Service was poor.

Wait staff was fantastic! Great classy place. I got the steakhouse burger with Swiss instead of provolone. Delicious!! I had the fries instead of chips. The fries were good but I had extra bits of fryer chicken skin and several pieces of over cooked chicken among them. It was kind of gross. I got over it and we overall enjoyed the back patio. read more

I go for their perch. Big servings at a decent price. It's a nice place to grab a drink and appetizer too.

First time eating here. Definitely a locals bar and restaurant. Went late afternoon and the the bar and dining area started to get busy. Most patrons seemed to know the bartenders and servers. Menu has a large selection plus some nice monthly featured items. Serving sides were generous and food was equally good. Service friendly and prompt. This place was a pleasant surprise. read more

Their bone-in wings are pretty good and is the only reason this isn't a 1-star review. My mom and I went to Avonia Tavern on Saturday evening. I ordered some french onion soup and cranch boneless wings. My mom ordered garlic and butter boneless wings. The boneless wings are not edible for three reasons: 1. The amount of salt in the seasoning is unreal. It literally burns your tongue. My mom said her wedding ring hurt her hand the next day because her fingers swelled up due to the salt 2. There's way too much breading on the boneless wings 3. The boneless wings were way overcooked. The thick breading was crunchy and the wing meat was chewy. I left at least half of my boneless wings uneaten and my mom probably left around 2/3 of hers uneaten. The waitress (looked to be in high school) apologized but didn't make it right. Service was not very good either. She only came back once to check up on us (that's when we complained about the boneless wings) and I also asked for some more water, which I never received. The french onion soup was alright and the french fries were pretty good, but the boneless wings were so bad I won't be going back to The Avonia Tavern for a meal. read more

Went to Avonia Tavern on a recent Monday for wings. 4 adults and 2 children. Waited 50 minutes!! to receive our food. I don't mind waiting for my food, especially when they are busy, but to have 2 tables of people, a 2 person party and a 5 person party, come in, order and receive their food within 20 minutes!!!? This was totally unacceptable!!! They probably got our food!! They seriously need to keep their orders and priorities straight. read more

Grew up there in Whitehall and when I was old enough the good old Avonia Tavern was one of our regular haunts. I remember trips through the cornfield bc that's the way my brothers & sister did it. Moved away 25 years ago & this year had the urge to drive by the old neighborhood. Stopped at avonia beach, they got a sign there now and everything. Drove by the Laird's driveway my top grade school friend but I imagine she wasn't there. Had a small pizza & a couple Busch at the tavern. Pizza was great, had the fried type pepperoni that they used to have at Aggie's Pizza. Loved Aggie's growing up. Wish more bars had Busch. All the Erie bars do it. I told the barmaid loud enough for everyone that I grew up across the street in Whitehall but no takers. In fairview everybody knew everybody & if u hear a last name u say ohh u went to school with my sister or some such. Now it would be ohhh tell your dad I said hey I'm so old. Drove by the old homestead & snapped a photo for old times sake. You can go home again. I loved growing up there. Went to see the family at CHQ for thanksgiving. It was a great trip, happy thanksgiving to all my readers! 5 stars btw. The bar is very clean and nice people. Good pizza too the square type. read more

Avonia Tavern is a nice place to go for a family outing or with a larger group. We had a party of 9 and came in around 8:30pm one evening after spending the day at Waldameer. Service was absolutely great, we had the friendliest waitress who brought out waters for everyone immediately and was very accommodating to our group with children and a wheelchair. The food was standard tavern stuff, prices were reasonable and the location is great with plenty of parking. I had the liver and onions which I didn't really care for but that was my fault for ordering it! The side salad was really good with homemade ranch dressing. Everyone else at our table enjoyed their food as well. We will definitely come back. read more

Our favorite place for burgers, ribs & wings. I think my wife would go just for the homemade ranch dressing.

Delicious wings and fries! Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely be back again.

Can't wait until they get their full menu back, but the food is tasty, the beer is cold, and the service is very friendly.

We've gotten takeout several times during the pandemic, and it's always been perfect and delicious! Our go-to is wings/ribs/fries and "baby burger" (aka kids cheeseburger/that's what he calls it) for our son. Just call in an order and it'll be ready in about 30 minutes or less. read more

Nice restaurant and bar. Their renovations are nice. The food is good. Variety on their menu. I would give them a 5 star except for their service which tends to be really slow. It's been slow for years. Otherwise a nice place to stop. read more

Great fish dinner , wings are delicious. Nice atmosphere for a few friends to get together.

I've been going to the Avonia Tavern for over 20 years; it's convenient. Giving it five stars here because at the moment, the average is showing just three stars. If you go through the reviews, you'll note that most of the low ratings are from 2015 or so. Yes, there was a dip in food quality and service back then. NOW - the interior is updated, the rooms are clean, the service is usually great, and the food is very tasty and consistent from visit to visit. Great beer choices as well. Give it a try! I really like the panini sandwiches, the philly steak sub, and the buffalo style hot wings. Oh yeah, the pizza is good as well. ~TH~ read more

Great food and awesome staff. Burger of the month, got the tee shirt. Combo with the wings , to die for. It's your fault if you pick the wrong sauce. They have plenty of great sauces and dry rubs. Wings are the best and fish dinners are great, when Mom says "no meat". Have to admit I miss the ranch on the table in the tube. East side has their eateries, we on the west side are blessed with Avonia. TY read more

Here's the story.... We set Siri to avoid tolls and avoid highways and were enjoying the back roads from Buffalo to Geneva. Waited too long to stop for lunch and admittedly got hangry! Stopped at Avonia Tavern. Very cute local spot. Nicely decorated for fall. Some locals at the bar. We did notice a large group of kids in a private room when we walked in. Sat ourselves and were promptly served our drinks. Then...quite a while passed while the waitress was attending to the large group. We debated just paying for the drinks and heading out, but remember, we were hangry! So, hubby went up to the bar and asked the bartender about service. She rushed over, apologized and took our order. In a flash, our salad arrived, and more apologies. Then the original server came over to apologize. This was followed by more apologies. I'm telling you all this because they could have handled this very differently but chose the high road and treated us with kindness and respect. That does not go unnoticed in this day and age. The food was delicious. As a matter of fact, best broccoli cheese soup we've ever had!! Thank you Avonia for treating us so well. read more

I have been coming here for years. Seems like the food has slipped considerably. Why are the wings advertised as "broiled" when they are clearly deep fried to absolute hell? The ranch is needed just to swallow a bite of these babies. Second time I've ordered them, not sure why. Prob not gonna be back. Shame read more

I was visiting from Phoenix, and friends brought over wings. Everyone loved them and the sauces were great too. I was especially impressed by the hand written note from the Avonia staff. Who writes nice notes anymore?? For that reason alone I would support this lovely local business. Stay healthy & happy everyone! Carol K. read more

Spectacular family atmosphere. Very inviting. Professional staff. I firmly believe this place has the BEST wings around. They're big and meaty... whoever raised these chicks had them hit the gym and fed 'em a high bro-tein diet... The hot-wings are a great choice (ask for them 'crispy'), they're not the traditional wet wing, and I really like that about these... by far, the Carolina Kickers are my go-to choice when I want a spicy/sweet wing. The rest of the menu has something for everyone.. this place is not ONLY about wings, there is always an insert in each menu with the current months seasonal specials, from trout, walleye, pot-pies, and burgers, ALL the food is incredible... You should make a trip just to try how good their ranch dressing is... read more

Don't sleep on this place. Great spot to grab some food. My burger was delicious. Tasted like a ground up steak. Drink options are pretty standard. I love this place. The food is fantastic and the servers are always amazing. But it is always SO SLOW. Getting a drink or getting food. It's maddening. It's why we don't go come here more often. And this problem was long before COVID so it can't be blamed for this issue. If you don't mind waiting - the food is fantastic and it's a great spot. read more

The service was decent, ambiance is typical of a nicer tavern. The Portions are big so be careful when ordering. I got the French onion soup which was a large crock with tons of melty cheese. They used a dark bread in the soup which was different but good. Plenty of onions and the taste was overall good. I also ordered the mini wing and rib basket (6 wings and 1/2 lb of boneless pork ribs). I ordered the wings hot (they were medium at best). If you want hot wings order them extra hot. The wings were tasty but on the small side (I couldn't complain much since they actually gave me 7 of them). The ribs we're fall-apart tender and pretty good. The bbq sauce was very good on the ribs themselves but I asked for a side of extra sauce and it was a completely different BBQ sauce. The service was fast but slightly sporatic during the meal. The waitress was friendly and knew the menu. read more

I've eaten at Avonia many times when I lived in Erie -- only because of the limited choices in the Fairview area. Staff is ok, but often not friendly. Continually hearing them talk to each other (instead of the customers) about the restaurant, their hours, issues in their schedules, etc. I really don't care to hear about their restaurant issues when I'm eating out. Sometimes hard to get the attention of the waitresses. The food is average at best. After a while, I only ordered a select few things which weren't too bad. The boneless ribs and fish sandwich were pretty good. Other than that, everything I had was very average. Large selection of beer and alcohol. Good TV viewing and a good place to watch "the game". read more
