Had a really nice dinner at Steak 48. It was my first visit and I was very impressed. We went there for a private event and ordered off of a limited menu. The service was great, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was lovely. The star of the meal for me was the petite filet mignon. It was a very nice quality steak that came out perfectly cooked and was super tasty. I would definitely recommend Steak 48 and will return.

WOULD DEFINITELY recommend (dinner). Came by to celebrate my birthday, had a reservation set via OpenTable which I recommend doing so (just like any other upscale dining in the city of Chicago). They have so many intimate dining rooms that are sectioned on the first and the second floor along with an outdoor seating area on the second floor. Very beautiful and dramatic decor, very nice bar on the second level, they have both elevator and stairs so plus if you have issues walking up the stairs (e.g. disabilities, wearing heels, etc.). Music was a good level for subtle conversation amongst the table. They have extensive wine and cocktail menu to start off with along with food menu as well. To start, for the cocktails, I had to order my signature Old Fashioned, ordered the "Orange & Rye", which I thought was pretty good, it doesn't taste like a variation of the Old Fashioned given the name. Expected some sweetness, some citrus based on not only the name but the ingredient description on the menu but wasn't the case. Only because I like Old Fashioned, I enjoyed the drink but if you are expecting a nice variation, that wasn't achieved with the drink unfortunately (Rating: 8.2/10). For the bread, they have garlic parmesan flavor and sea-salted bread flavor, I suggest getting both, they both tasted amazing, very big plus to them for their flavors of bread that they offer (and I think they also offer plain if you ask). We also ordered 48 Caesar Salad with Warm Poached Egg, with the poached egg on the side. Salad was alright, had only few bigger crouton pieces, we made good choice for poached egg on the side since it didn't really add to the salad but nonetheless that salad was good, perfect amount of dressing, good to share amongst 2 people (Rating: 8.4/10). For the entrees, ordered the Australian Tajima Grass Fed 12 oz. NY strip with sauteed Broccoli and Shells + Cheese on the side. Getting into the steak, they said the grass-fed NY strip was a little less sweet than the regular NY strip but, in my opinion, it was pretty much similar in terms of how juicy it was compared to the regular 12 oz NY strip (we also order the regular 12 oz to compare the two). Ordered it Medium which was the absolute perfect texture (and is the texture I recommend for this steak). It comes out on a steaming hot plate, and they also add the sides to your plate as they bring it over so you can see the sides cooking more while they were placed onto the main dinner plate (great touch). They had steak sauce, but the steak did not need it in my opinion; either way the steak sauce definitely made an already good steak better (Rating: 9.4/10). The shells + cheese were also very good as well, is another steakhouse that does mac & cheese almost perfect (Rating: 8.9/10) and very nicely sauteed broccoli (Rating: 8.6/10). This was a very great experience, and I definitely appreciated the personalized birthday card from the general manager of the restaurant. Service was top-tier, our server, Amber, was very attentive of us that night and tended to all of our needs as well as giving us lot of insight on the menu; also appreciated her enthusiasm as well on my birthday. Also allowed me to take as many pictures as I wanted after their closing, very patient staff. Chicago has many good steakhouses, and I would definitely have to include Steak 48 as one of those top options (in terms of overall dining experience). I would recommend this place for any adult celebration dinners if you are looking for a place, or if you want to impress a romantic partner.

We recently hosted an executive client dinner here for about 35 people, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The staff was amazing, and our guests are still glowing about the evening. We started with some heavy hitters from the appetizer menu--the prime steakhouse meatballs and crispy shrimp were incredible, praised by all, and really set the tone for the meal. The bartenders have a strong pour hand and put together some top-tier mixed drinks to kick things off. For my main, I opted for the superfood salad to balance out the indulgence, followed by the bone-in Iberico pork chops. These were easily the second-best pork chops I've ever had (the #1 spot is a tough one to beat in New Orleans, but these came remarkably close). I paired them with a delicious Malbec, and I appreciated that my server never let my glass get empty. To wrap things up, we had the ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake. As one of my guests perfectly described it: "It's like a cake and ice cream had a beautiful baby." Between the flawless service and the high-end atmosphere, it was the perfect venue for a professional gathering. It's clear why they're a staple in the Chicago dining scene.

Thoroughly impressed with my experience at Steak 48. Dimly lit and intimate in the heart of the city you come here when you want a great cut of beef and the selection makes sure there's something for everyone regardless of preference. I went with the 45-Day Dry Aged steak alongside truffle butter and fries. Every bite was tender and deep flavored, and the truffle butter took it over the edge; easily one of the best steaks I've had in the city hands down. The fries were perfectly seasoned and individually crisped, not a soggy fry in sight. Both old fashions were well crafted and catered to your whiskey or rye preference. Service was attentive throughout, checked in consistently and never let my drink run empty. -Mr.

Celebrating my birthday at Steak 48 turned into a night I'll never forget. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt upscale yet welcoming, setting the tone for a truly special evening. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection -- tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Every side dish complemented the meal beautifully, and the presentation made it feel like a true celebration. What made the night unforgettable was the service. The staff went above and beyond to make the birthday feel special, adding thoughtful touches that made the evening feel personal and memorable. If you're looking for a place to celebrate a milestone or create a lasting memory, Steak 48 delivers an experience as incredible as the food.

Excellent food in a wonderful atmosphere! The views from the second floor are amazing. I had the bone in ribeye. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Ordered it rare and it was cooked to perfection. The sides were awesome too. Service was excellent. Very attentive! Definitely recommend this place for a romantic evening or a celebration.

From start to finish, Steak 48 delivered an exceptional dining experience that hit all the right notes of indulgence, precision, and bold flavor. But before I describe an unforgettable meal, I want to begin by thanking the new GM Jennifer Seitaj for accommodating my request for a private dining booth in the back (pictured), the manager Kris Petrov for the tremendous on-site customer service, and of course my waiter Vincent who ALWAYS provides exceptional service-- appropriately attentive without being overbearing. Having arrived early we started in the warm and friendly bar area -- vibrant but not loud -- and enjoyed a delicious glass of Croggy Range "Te Muna Rd" Sauvignon Blanc (24 Marl, NZ). When seated knowing we'd have steaks at Chicago's premier steakhouse restaurant I ordered a bottle of an exceptional and reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon - The Calling ('20 Alexander Valley, CA) $94, a bold, well-structured full bodied wine with a long, elegant finish and balance. Sourced from Sonoma's renowned Alexander Valley - A classic expression of a California Cabernet. Steak 48 Food -- THE BEST! Appetizers set the tone beautifully. The crispy shrimp--tossed in a sweet Thai chili glaze and paired with a garlic aioli--was the perfect mix of sweet heat and creamy richness. The standout starter, however, was the chicken fried lobster tails. Served three to an order, these were a decadent treat: crisp on the outside with tender lobster inside, seasoned with Chesapeake Bay spices and complemented by a green chili aioli that added just the right kick. Worth every penny. For the main course, the steaks were grilled to perfection. The New York Strip arrived flawlessly medium rare, with a gorgeous sear and juicy, robust flavor. The filet mignon, also medium rare, was equally impressive--tender, buttery, and full of depth. The sautéed spinach side with sea salt and Parmesan was a simple yet elegant pairing, offering a garlicky, savory counterpoint to the rich meats. Dessert was no afterthought. The "Ultimate" Vanilla Caramel Cake lives up to its name--layers of moist cake, vanilla gelato, and airy whipped cream, topped with homemade toasted brown sugar cinnamon pecans for the perfect crunch. The red velvet bread pudding was equally show-stopping, melting together warm cake, vanilla gelato, sweet cream cheese, and white chocolate into a luscious finale. Every dish reflected thoughtful preparation and premium ingredients. Steak 48 nails the upscale steakhouse experience--bold, flavorful, and totally satisfying.

Back to Chicago and had to stop in. Service was on point and food excellent. We got filet, cooked perfect and tender. Got asparagus fries and corn crème brûlée, omg that corn is still amazing and the asparagus was no slouch either. Every trip to Chicago this is a stop.

This was such a nice experience for our anniversary. The restaurant was pretty dark inside and there is a dress code but the music was upbeat which, in my opinion, makes things feel young and energetic instead of too serious. The steaks were delicious. Loveddd how hot the actual plates were. The au gratin potatoes were amazing. They sent a dessert to us for the occasion and it was soooo delicious. I can't even put my finger on everything that was in it, I just knew there was red velvet cake, maybe some macadamia nuts?? I'm not sure but after everything we ate, we almost didn't finish it so it was the perfect size. Why 4 stars? Our waiter, was ..okay. He knew to be professional but the way he said things at times was kinda condescending so it could have brought the mood down if we allowed it to. Other than that, it was a nice time

We came to celebrate our anniversary and it not disappoint. We made reservations a few weeks prior and were seated right on time. They make a point to remind you to dress for the occasion but there were a few people in more casual outfits so I don't think the dress code is strictly enforced. The dinner rolls to start were fabulous - very fluffy but dense and filling. We started with the hanging bacon because it seemed like such a unique dish. It definitely lived up to the hype - each slice was super thick and flavorful and dripping in the truffle honey glaze. Honestly, I was pretty full after that and we still had a full line up of food to enjoy. We then split the beet salad, dry aged ribeye, and asparagus fries. The beet salad is always a classic. The dry aged steak was a nice twist to the normal wet aged version. They also were great about offering to pre-slice the steak for easy sharing or divide it into two separate plates from the start. For dessert we chose the ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake which they ended up comping for our anniversary. It was a hefty portion and came with a giant pile of whip cream and a personalized anniversary design. They also gave us mini chocolate chip cookies at the end as if all that food wasn't enough. Our server, Daniel, provided great recommendations and the rest of the staff did a great job clearing dishes and refilling drinks. However, sometimes I felt a bit rushed and they did take a few plates away when I still had a few more bites left.

It was our first time at the infamous stake 48 as it was the wife's birthday. Start the service was amazing along with the hospitality in rose petals all over the table. The cocktail list was extensive along with the crafted beers, whiskey's bourbons and incredible wine list both current and vintage. The steaks were delicious and the sides were perfect. If I could only make one complaint about the food. It would be the oysters. They just didn't seem as juicy and briny as that specific breed is known, for we also noticed there were a lot of guests wearing hats and hoodies, which was odd because they really force the dress code policy. both through OpenTable and on their website. I would suggest they change that and start cracking down unless they want it to be another Applebee's. Other than that, great place try it out!

How strict is the dress code? Thinking about attending for my birthday and wanted to wear jeans and a sweater. Will this attire meet the dress code?

Hi Fred, yes we do allow jeans and a sweater! We look forward to seeing you.

    Is your meat halal?

Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. We do offer 2 Halal dishes, our rack of lamb and the Wagu filet.

Will outdoor seating be available during the winter? And if so, how will a comfortable temperature be maintained?

Mainly take out but have seating on the inside.

Website says "Proper Attire Required". Please elaborate on what that would be for both men and women?

I would just avoid wearing hats, T shirt or sneakers. Guys don't need a sport coat or anything like that. I've been there a few times with jeans and nice shirt. Same thing for women. I've seen plenty of women wear jeans and not necessarily a dress…

With tables of 6+ people, does the restaurant allow for separate checks for each couple?

    Sure.

Anyone know who the mural upstairs is of? Guy on the left is Dennis Farina. The other guy is who?

Carlo, thank you for the message. The gentleman on the right is indeed Dennis Farina and the gentleman on the left is Dennis Mastro, Mike and Jeff Mastro‘s father. They are the founders of steak 48 and Dennis and Dennis were lifelong friends.

    What does 48 mean?

Company is based out of AZ and it is the 48th state.

Does Steak 48 offer any happy hour specials (drinks or bar bites)?

Definitely not. Their an evening place.

It paired so well with the burger. You get green bell pepper on the nose and a hint of it on the palate. When you swallow you get a little heat at the back of the throat. It was so good! Great bar. Great food. Great beer. Go check them out!

--Location/Parking-- Located in the heart of River North on…read morethe 2nd floor below the AMC theater. Parking is in nearby street parking on parking structures. --Ambience-- Cool middle bar setup with vinyl glossy wood tables. Great bar set up, but we chose the dining room table. --Service/Staff-- Bartenders were quick in getting the drinks out. Our server was great in letting us know what was on tap and when last calls was. --Products-- Got the neon on tap and my friends got the flight of beers. Good selection of beers to choose from --Capacity-- Inside the dining room can hold about 40-50 people and the bar area can hold about 25 people. --Overall-- Looking forward to return to try out their other items on tap.
