I lived in Zilker Walk apartments for a year and had a good experience while living there. Maintenance requests were responded to promptly, and the staff was professional and kind. However, the post-move-out experience has been less than stellar. Residents should be made more aware by management of the professional cleaning charge in move-out instructions and the lease agreement. Unfortunately, they will charge you $135 for things not stated in the lease, which is not legal. My experience included a cleaning charge despite having thoroughly cleaned the apartment. The lease didn't mention that professional cleaning would be required, and this was only noted in fine print in a PDF sent a month before move-out. State Street will claim that you received a resident manual with your lease, but I never did. Management should be clearer about this provision to avoid confusion and unfair charges. I would have nothing but good things to say about this company if it weren't for this deceptive practice of deducting fees for things not outlined in the lease. read more

I live in one of their properties. Pros: on the affordable side, large units, and the company likes pets. Cons: not super fast at responding to questions or maintenance requests, dirty exterior (tons of dog poop everywhere. Literally everywhere. Cobwebs and dead insects in all corners. Parking is an issue (daily firelane lane and handicap parking), and sadly, neighbors aren't friendly. Hidden monthly fees too. We have to pay electronically but then they pass on the fee to you, the customer. Not sure if I would recommend to a friend. read more

i have been with State Street Properties since May of 2018, left for about 6 months and was lucky to get my same unit back at Sunshine Terrace. I absolutely loved that place, but I definitely out grew it and it was time for a change. Cassie has always been there to help me and was able to get me into a bigger space at El Sorrento! I am in love with the place! They have the most charming properties around central Austin. the whole staff from the office team, maintenance, and the cleaning crew are all AMAZING! Shout out to Morgan who has helped me during my moving process into my new home. Morgan has been wonderful and I couldn't be happier about my new home! State Street Properties is fantastic. I had a couple of fairly significant issues upon move-in and they addressed everything promptly and courteously. You know how some management companies cut corners when "fixing" things in your apartment? And the ones that act resentful, as if every maintenance request is a horrible inconvenience? Not these guys. They are committed to ensuring that your living space is in top-shape. They want to make sure that you are comfortable and safe in your home. I've never experienced a management company that genuinely seems to care the way that State Street Properties does. Everyone I met over the course of the application process and move-in was great. The leasing agent I primarily worked with was Cristal, and she was awesome. From the first of our electronic communications, to meeting her at the apartment for a viewing, to having her guidance throughout the application process - she is so friendly and professional and incredibly helpful. She is who I reached out to about my move-in issues initially, and she was on top of helping to make sure that the team handled it stat, even though that wasn't her job. When Cristal was on vacation briefly, my emails went to Cassie, who I never met irl but who was also super responsive and helpful. I met Alicia and Jasmine when I went to pick up my keys and they, too, were absolutely lovely. I think it's Alicia who manages all of the maintenance requests so she deserves a big shout-out. Basically, I am thrilled with my experience thus far and would highly recommend moving into one of the properties they manage. read more

I wasn't too thrilled with State Street after signing my lease. I moved in a bit of an older building and had a handful of complaints. Finding an available, nice, decently managed place in ATX without paying out the a*s seemed impossible. I love Hyde Park and despite the headaches at move in, I am so glad I ended up signing a lease with them. Granted the woman I had to deal with initially was pretty much the worst; Cassie my property manager was incredibly warm and makes sure the property is taken care of. For instance, one afternoon I met a new neighbor and heard complaints about late night laundry keeping her up; it wasn't toward me and I didn't think much of it since it's not something I do or that impacts my life (other side of the building), but a week later there was a friendly email and sign put up by the laundry area. It's the little things that added and really made my apartment a great place to call home. read more

I have never experienced such courtesy, professionalism, and friendliness from a real estate agent. I moved from Australia without a credit score and they worked with me to get me approved for my lease. I had an issue with mold in my bathroom, within a few days they had a ventilation fan installed in my bathroom and the ceiling cleaned and repainted. I had a crazy neighbor keeping me awake all hours of the night, they evicted him and moved me to a better apartment for the same price. I call or message, and they answer or call back ASAP. STAY AWAY... . . . I've been at Elmwood Place (500 Elmwood Place - 78705) for almost 3 years. This place is ran by the single worst property management company I have ever encountered. The manager is a completely inept, incompetent leasing agent with absolutely no skill with regards to properly maintaining a property... good for nothing but getting people to sign a lease. Dilapidated, full of bed bugs, roaches and foundation issues... The only thing that the manager has managed to accomplish is causing further damage and harm to the building. The painters completely botched the paint job and destroyed the landscaping. The landscapers further destroyed the remaining trees, foliage and left a mess. The crews hired to repair the parking lot only caused further damage to it. Provided maintenance is pathetic and most of their work could be better completed with toothpaste and duct-tape. When you specifically ask that the typical maintenance man *NOT!* do the work; they still send his incompetent self to screw up the job. That being said; they now want to charge $40 per month for on-site parking (probably because the manager wasted sooooo much money allowing cut-rate, BS crews to screw up the parking lot) and they want to raise rent... - FOR WHAT!? The property is in worse condition and in greater disrepair than when I moved in back in early 2012. These efficiency units aren't worth $500 a month, much less what I'm currently paying. The location is great, yeah - but that's the only thing going for it... Want to rent from a completely laughable, incompetent company that couldn't care much less for their tenants and properties?... A "Slum Lord"??? Then, by all means; rent here. read more

Had great experiences with State Street, specifically Cassie, who helped take care of any issues we had speedily. They were courteous with "heads up" emails so that we could make sure our pets were in safe places if someone needed to come into the apartment. They also made lots of upgrades while we were in the apartment - new awnings, windows, washer/dryer... they really care about maintaining and improving their apartments. read more

I lived at the Sunshine Terrace and this little complex was perfect! Cassie (our landlord) was more than helpful as well as understanding. I honestly wish I didn't leave. Best landlord ever and the best neighbors/ community I've lived in. Rent isn't insane, if there are issues it's fixed promptly, safe neighborhood to walk your dogs, huge apartment for the price... I definitely didn't realize how good I had it living here. I would tell friends, family, my kids (if I had any) to live here. I lived there for two years with zero bad experiences. I lived at a State Street Property apartment complex called Heritage Oaks for eighteen months. The property manager there is named Leslie and she can accurately be described as callous and indifferent to the needs and well being of her tenants. Although she was never willing to help me with a single problem the entire time I lived there, I never really thought she was a bad person until we moved out. Basically, what it comes down to is that she illegally retained our entire pet deposit ($300) for "damages" that did not exist. We attempted to resolve the situation calmly and reasonably, but Leslie is not a person who can be reasoned with. We contacted State Street Properties directly several times in the hope of finding a reasonable person with whom we could negotiate, but they refused to step in. We offered them evidence that Leslie was lying, but they did not care. So, in the end, I guess that they are just as callous and indifferent as their managers are. And for that, they get 1 star. read more

Maintenance has always been responsive, the grounds are well maintained, and the owners/employees have been attentive/fair. I currently rent a place through state street properties called Zilker Walk. Despite this great location and easy access to Zilker Park, I will never recommend this place nor the management team to anyone. The management has been extremely unfriendly and transphobic towards me with every question or need I had and I've never felt so unwelcome at my own apartment complex. I've had a schizophrenic brother staying with me for a little bit because he had nowhere else to go and the management threatened me to terminate my lease, someone who's lived here almost 2 years and paid my rent on time always, because my neighbors deemed my brother dangerous. He can't even kill a fly and the only person he'd ever hurt in his life is himself. He's now homeless and missing. I never want to live in Zilker area or ever have to go through this property management ever again. I am disgusted in every experience with this stingy and heartless management I will do everything in my power to discredit everything they manage. What apartment complex doesn't change their AC filters for them? Or have one tiny recycling bin for like 40 different residents? The walls at Zilker Walk are so thin you can literally hear all your neighbors business and we pay $1200 to hear couples fight intensely. I also have google fiber and for some reason and maybe it's because of the apt layout sometimes it doesn't even work. All in all, this neighborhood and the property management are only for racist white people with 9-5 jobs and I can't wait to move out of this horrendous place. read more

I implore you to read the other reviews carefully and be discerning in who you listen to. Cassie and Crystal were incredibly helpful in getting me into a super comfortable apartment that I love. It's a really awesome place near Zilker and super affordable relative to other listings in the area. I got brand new appliances, floors, google fiber etc. I've had two minor maintenance issues, both of them were resolved within an hour of me opening a ticket on their website. Paying rent is a breeze online. This was my first apartment and the folks at State Street were super helpful in answering all my dumb questions. If you like the property, I can't recommend this company enough. read more

The Gallery Apartments on Manchaca. Avoid at all cost! BED BUGS and owners who don't care at all. This is an ongoing battle and the management is so poor that the problem is only getting worse. More and more homes are being infested, Bed Bug infested mattresses, furniture, and other items are stacked up by the dumpsters for WEEKS!! No notices sent out to warn people either. By far the worst handling of a situation I have ever seen. And you have to pay for the inspection, treatment, and everything else yourself. Simply look elsewhere, maybe when they have empty units they will clean them up. Until then if you value your health and well-being go elsewhere. read more

the past 11 months i've lived at one of the properties owned by state street. when i moved in, i was excited to find this place because of the location and the price - but that was until i had to deal with multiple leaks (one ruining some personal items and one that was supposedly fixed 2 times before they finally cut the hole in the wall to find where the pipes were leaking). unfortunately there is still a hole in the ceiling of our shower - leaving our shower unusable for 4+ days and all we have heard back is that they "have taken every measure possible to uphold our mission statement and we stand by the work that is completed and the timeliness of that work" - not true. nothing was done for 3 days while the water just dripped from our ceiling. i don't see how that's "timely". luckily we've been able to stay with friends while the bathroom is unusable at our apartment. basically i wouldn't move into any properties owned by state street properties ever again. the ownership has proven that they won't spend the money it would take to actually fix things, but only put "band-aids" on the problems. they also don't seem to listen to their residents when they have legitimate problems in their home. read more
