I've been coming here for over 20 years and have always loved that they made an effort to offer a little different, more exciting fare than other restaurants in the area, their willingness to accommodate groups, and for those who like, the draft beer list is amazing! (And yes, they switched the menu up a bit as well recently.) So I have not eaten out much at all since the pandemic, but out of necessity stopped in one day for takeout, knowing I'd get a good burger there. They asked if it was an allergy or preference, and when I opened bag up I saw there was a sticker on the container certifying it was gluten free. What confused me was there were french fries in the container. Let me repeat myself, gluten free French fries!!! (that comment is for those of us who get told we can have a salad. ) Most restaurants use fries coated in flour for extra crispness, but even if they don't, that oil is shared with flour coated foods and not safe for GF people. No unreasonable expectations. Kind of between a restaurant and a diner. If you can get here before the rush- the parking, service and noise level is tolerable. Otherwise, it is a bit of a zoo. The clam chowder tastes really good, but much too much flour. Shouldn't be that thick. Best onion rings ever- and the fried clams are almost good enough to avoid the trip to Essex. Nice breading- and juicy. The lobster roll is more of a lobster salad roll. But tastes good. Found the service to be pleasant and efficient. Better during the lull period. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Stars after hiking around World's End- which is a fabulous park if you've never been. We came around 330pm expecting that we couldn't find an eatery still serving but it was hopping at Stars, clearly a well loved establishment. A very friendly host greeted us and we had Tom for a server who was quiet but attentive and friendly. My husband sub'd in house made tater tots for his fries and we were both blown away by how delicious they were. He also got the blackened chicken wrap and said it was so flavorful. I got the fish tacos which had tender nuggets of freshly fried fish, home made slaw, salsa and hot mayo sauce. The portions were generous and my favorite part ( silly maybe) was that they toasted the flour tortillas, I think that makes a world of difference to toast a tortilla. The accompanying fries tasted fresh and good- slightly salty without salting them. The only disappointment was that the unsweetened iced tea was dull- probably a fountain drink, but with the high caliber of food, we expected it to be brewed ice tea. I stopped in on a Monday night and it wasn't very crowded. I chose a booth by the window and was helped quickly by my waitress. She was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a cup of soup and the Short Rib grilled cheese with a salad. The soup was the soup of the day, corn and crab chowder, I enjoyed the mild taste but felt that it could have used more flavor and added salt and pepper. The soup was really filling for me and I took only a couple bites of the sandwich and took the rest to go. The reviews on Yelp had me expecting a lot more flavor across the board. I enjoyed the music that they were playing and it seemed like they have a lot of rotating specials and festive events. Update: the sandwich (even when hastily reheated) was extremely tasty. Wow wow wow. The bacon tater tots are fantastic!! The apple chicken maple sausages are delicious as well! I got the whites which was egg white omelette with turkey bacon, spinach caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese with a side of cranberry muffin and sweet potato home fries. I use to love this place... but the last few times we have gone the staff has been rude and the food mediocre. The parking sucks, but it always has and with my partner in a wheelchair it is a challenge to say the least to get in. Then when we do we are treated crappy but the hostess there are maybe three tables we can sit at due to the wheelchair and every time people who come in later than us us get sat before us because we can get into 95% of the tables. But they won't consider when one of the tables we can use becomes available sliding us in a little ahead of people. So it's ok to make us wait but they won't do that to the people who got there before us ... don't really get this. And when I made the suggestion is when I received the bitchy hostess reply. Food is not as good as it use to be. My eggs have been over cocked the last two times, bacon soggy and just average food. So why wait get treated like crap for mediocre food. Sad to say but after all my years of going I am done going. There are better places that will treat myself and my partner better. If u choose to go here I wish u well - when they are good they are good but my last several times they truly have sucked! read more

Just left Stars with my husband and mother in law. When we entered the restaurant we were told we had a 25 minute wait. My mother in law sat down on the bench and the hostess noticed she was freezing because of the constant open and closing of the door. She sat us way before our wait time. The other patrons who were waiting for a table before us looked at me as I walked to the table with my husband and mother in law and gave us a sweet smile. Stars has really gone downhill as far as the staff. Rude people seating you, rude servers. Food was pretty good. My main issue: went for dinner with my 83 year old mother. We were told a 25 minute wait. We sat on bench inside. We were told we had to go wait outside. No exceptions made for my elderly mom who doesn't walk well and uses a cane. The kicker was, there were two empty tables. I asked if we could sit at one of them. I just got a rude "no." No explanations. So we sat outside in the rain for a few minutes. Clearly, a local hangout: deservedly, since the breakfast rocks. A diner-level (which is a good thing) breakfast. The wait is long, and can be (very) loud inside. I think we will cross this place off our list of local spots. I hoped that my previous 3 star rating might go up. Nope. We had a two star experience I am sorry to report. We went one recent early weekend morning for breakfast. There were a few people already seated but there were still plenty of places to sit. We chose one of the booths and noticed immediately that the bench and the table top looked like they were in need of updating and refreshing. The vinyl covering that is tacked onto the table was frayed and coming apart. The booth benches are lumpy and uncomfortable. As we glanced around the room, it seemed this was true of a number of tables . In fact the entire place needs a serious update and refresh. It looks very tired and worn in there. We were seated by the window where we most unhappily noted that there were several flies buzzing about the window. Most unappetizing. We switched booths to one across the room and against the wall where thank goodness there was no fly action. Note to Stars: Flies are gross. Be attentive. Do something about the ones that find their way into your establishment. Our server was pleasant enough but clueless. I asked if I could swap out the toast that comes with the omelettes for something else. I said: "What can I swap my toast for; I would rather have something else?" She said she didn't know. I said: "how about some fruit?" She said: "yes you can have a side of fruit, but we will have to charge you for that order." I said: "Then that's not really a swap then is it?" She said: "I guess not." Ugh. I can't stand clueless from waitstaff who before hitting the floor to wait on customers should know the menu and what is possible and what isn't. If she was uncertain as to what was possible to offer in this situation she should have taken a moment to ask a manager. We both ordered western omelettes. They were just okay. My husband thought his was overcooked in that his eggs seemed rubbery. They come with a heap of home fries which were good but salty. The food comes out very quickly and looks a bit slapdash on the plate. The lone jelly pack my husband was given for his toast was teeny tiny and orange marmalade. One teeny jelly pack was not nearly enough for the two pieces of toast. He does not like orange marmalade. Why weren't there options without having to ask? Is jelly such an expensive commodity? We were still eating our omelettes, forks pointed toward mouths, when clueless server returned with our check. Trust me, we were not lingering so why this not so subtle message that it was time to consider leaving? I know Stars gets busy for the breakfast trade and more people were filing in but at least wait until people are done eating and have put their forks down before offering the check. And what happened to asking: "Is there anything else I can get you?". Stars does not cut it for us any more: flies, booths and tables in need of immediate refurbishing, just okay breakfasts and untrained waitstaff do not make for a place we want to eat or spend money. We live in this town and like to support local businesses but this one needs to pay better attention to taking care of customers. read more

We came here for a Saturday lunch. Food was great and staff very professional, but beware: this place is small, very popular, has limited parking and is at a very busy intersection. It's difficult to get in or out of the parking lot, or to maneuver once you're in there. In good weather you can probably park a block or so away, but we wouldn't want to do that in the dead of winter. Plus they're limiting capacity due to the pandemic and making you stay outside till your table's ready. Definitely make a reservation or come at an off-peak time, and I wouldn't bring anyone handicapped or elderly here. This place mostly seems to attract a young, hip crowd. We came here for dinner the other night and are definitely going back! I had seen them on Phantom Gourmet last weekend and we decided to try them out for my birthday. On the Phantom's recommendation we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Rangoons, and only wish there were more! We also got a cup of Clam Chowder: the spoon stood up just as it should and the chowder itself was sweet, chunky and filling. As tempted as I was to get the Lobster Mac n Cheese, we went with the Tuna and Salmon instead and were not disappointed! By the time dinner was over, I had passed into that "painfully full" stage where I kind of just wanted to go home and sleep. But we are SO going back for dessert because the menu was too tempting. I'm also looking forward to trying their breakfast menu. Our only complaint was that our server never brought us the waters we requested, nor did he ever ask if we wanted refills of our drinks. The English muffin were cold, thin and full of whatever meat was on the grill. The bacon was two burnt pieces that broke when I picked them up. The eggs were good. All for $13.48. BEWARE! We had a very frustrating experience with the manager at Stars. My adult children came to town and wanted to try this place. They told us an hour wait for a party of six, but there were two open booths, so we asked to split our group in to two groups. They refused to seat us claiming it was a state law, which is a complete lie! We did this at several other places in the area without issue. After telling some friends in Hingham about this, they told us that they had gotten food poisoning there on two separate occasions, so I guess the rude manager may have saved us from some serious stomach pain! read more

This place was pretty good, interesting menu and great beer list! I had the seared tuna noodle dish and it was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everyone else in our group was happy with the food, my mom ordered the fish (crusted with something, can't remember what) and it was really good! The parking is a challenge in their lot, but found something across the way. I have a baby, so this did not bother me, but when we went on a Friday night (on the early side like 6pm) pretty much everyone there had kids with them, so maybe not the best place if you are looking for adults only, but guessing that changes after 8 or so. read more

Stars used to be great. Then Covid came along. Takeout is never right; don't leave the building till you've checked your order. And don't be surprised when the people at the front desk are rude to you about it. They definitely need to be trained that you're not rude to the people paying your hourly rates. There's a great place in Abington called Yaz's Table. Might not be as pretty a location (not the waterfront), but they don't make you feel like you're ridiculous and the food is superior. read more
