Very nice family run supermarket. The fresh produce that they sell here is outstanding. Aside from all of the fruits and veggies that they have they also have a full service deli, a meat market, seafood product, a great variety of grocery items, even beer and wine here. You can also get some prepared meals here as well. The store is laid out very nicely and is easy to navigate. I have never had a problem finding anything I needed while shopping this store. The customer service here is great and the store is kept well stocked, neat and clean. The cashiers here are efficient and friendly and the checkout process is always smooth. Plenty of free parking in their very good sized parking lot. Highly recommended. read more

Most importantly, the staff at this wonderful market consistently go above and beyond to deliver customer satisfaction. I was searching for a very specific brand of wine and although he pointed me to similar bottles, the wine expert at FCMP went online to research where I might find the exact bottle I was seeking. (Ends up it's not distributed in Massachusetts!) The fresh produce selection is comprehensive and staggering, with a surprising assortment of unusual greens and lettuces. Kinneally Butchers, under the same roof, has organic meats for a fraction of the prices at Whole Foods/Amazon. The checkout staff are unflinchingly pleasant and efficient, with a genuine greeting and eye contact with everyone who passes through the line. All in all, a pleasant and relaxing food-shopping experience AND a non-mega-chain, privately-owned local business. read more

Purchased lobster meat at the Fruit Center 8/7/24. Clerk was told by coworker to take the meat from the front of the pan that was closest to the customer and not the meat closest to him. Obviously they were pushing for the customer to purchase the older meat. That evening I ate some of the meat and realized it was not fresh at all. I threw the remainder out since it was BAD! I was quite ill for a day and a half. Shame on the Fruit Center for selling this lobster meat to customers instead of them discarding it. Seafood customers beware! read more

This ranking is really geared towards your seafood counter. Not once, but twice - including most recently I purchased Seafood, Gulf Shrimp and farm raised salmon - the additional time was shrimp and haddock- BOTH times I asked the people at the counter if it's fresh - I asked "is it fresh, meaning does it smell like the ocean or rubbing alcohol?" One guys said "that's interesting question." - meaning you're not training your people to know the difference. Twice, bad seafood. You know better and especially for the $ you charge you should be on top of your food handling. - frustrating. (This included your Milton location. So for Christmas Eve, it's time to pull out the flame thrower. I used to like this place, but during my last trip here... I was in line at the checkout counter with one item of groceries and there was a man in front that was paying for his. An older woman behind me started to yell, "Aren't you going to put your things on the counter?" I responded, "There's someone in front of me, so what's your problem?" She then exclaimed, "People are waiting!" There was NO ONE behind that woman. Even had I put my one singular item on the counter, it wouldn't have mattered because the man in front was still paying. The cashier looked sympathetic towards me but kinda shrugged. So that woman grabbed some things underneath a closed counter, which led me to believe she was an employee there. It was a Saturday and I didn't really want to go on the war path. However, I was this close from asking for a manager. I've encountered some really awful/idiotic employees at this location, and to a lesser extent in Milton. Some of them just don't seem professional at all, especially compared to employees at other markets around, like Trader Joe's and Fresh Market. Generally, the cashiers are friendly, but everyone else has been terrible the last several trips for me. You're not worth it, Fruit Center. Your prices aren't nearly good enough for me to take crap from you. I have so many choices around this area, and I'll be going to TJ's and The Fresh Market from here on out. read more

During this Covid19 crisis I thought it important to write another update for the Fruit Center Marketplace. Under ordinary circumstances my previous reviews reflect my appreciation for this small family owned supermarket. But during this crisis, I have to give them an enormous shout-out. Thankfully markets are considered essential businesses. We still need to buy food and other household necessities but it is currently a stressful experience. That said, the experiences I have had twice now during shelter-in-place have been exemplary. I was at the store last Saturday morning about 10 minutes before it opened. There were already about 10 people in line at the door, thankfully remembering to stay at least 6 feet apart. Once the doors opened, one of the employees was letting people in carefully and only one at a time, allowing each person to wipe down their cart handle with the sanitizing wipes posted by the door... (although she assured us all the carts had just been wiped down already but one can't be too careful.) Then she allowed a couple of minutes to pass after each person walked in so as to stagger where each person was shopping at a given moment. I think I heard someone say they were only allowing 20 people in at a time. Last week they were letting in only 50 people at any one time. Such is this crisis and the Fruit Center is responding carefully and appropriately at each step of the way. My experience was as stress-free as it could be under the circumstances. I never felt crowded. The staff was present, available, helpful and cheerful. No small feat when I am sure they are anxious about working and being in contact with their customers all day. As always, the products were beautifully arranged. As always the store was impeccably clean. The store was well stocked. I even found a bottle of bleach in the cleaning aisle. I've not seen it anywhere else lately. The store rightfully so has installed plexiglass barriers to block the space between the cashier and the customer. During this pandemic rightfully so, customers cannot use their own bags. We are back to paper and plastic. Rightfully so, the store has installed blue lines which one should not cross while waiting in line at the register. I am appreciative of all these efforts at social distancing while in a market. Thank you Fruit Center, you have always had me as a fan, but now with renewed appreciation and respect for all you do for our community. read more

A higher-end grocery store than Stop & Shop or Shaw's. It's worth the drive. The salad bar has a great variety of items. The cheese selection is very good and there are a few kinds of pâté. You can get milk from Hornstra and cakes from Montilio's. The bread selection is good, as is the butcher (Kinnealey's) and seafood (Rocky Neck Fish) section. Check out the reduced rack on the right-hand side of the store after the produce section. You never know what you'll find. Yesterday there were cute containers of lotion for $8 (instead of $14) along with various baked goods, apples, and dirty martini mixers. The floral department always has nice choices for gifts. There's a liquor store attached (with occasional free beer & wine tastings, check their website) so you don't have to make a separate trip. Park to the side, not out front. It's not as busy. Sorry, but the older cashiers always seem unfriendly here. I've also seen a young female employee treated horribly by an older customer hurling racial slurs at her. The store seems to be a breeding ground for bad vibes. read more

There is a lot to like in this little store. it is a little tight in spacing, though. It also closes early, like 7 pm currently. Most of the customers were masked on a recent visit. But not all, and they (often the most vulnerable) wondered why I was laughing at them! they have lots of interesting foods as well as some staples. They have an interesting remainder shelf where you can see what other people don't want, and I often want! I like going there, but sometimes have to laugh at what is on sale and the maskless old people. I met a nice cashier, and found her delightful, although she did not take umbrage at being thought australian, as I had hoped to tease her. no newspapers. everytime I find a new delight, will be back. read more

Had not been to The Fruit Center in many years, but we stopped by on our way back to the beach. Wow! What a great place for just about anything you want. Fresh produce, specialty foods, fresh fish, meats, prepared foods, salad bar, baked goods, beer and wine shop. I have the Fruit Center, Stop & Shop, The Fresh Market, Hannaford & Whole Foods all as nearby options and I choose the Fruit Center over them all. Friendly staff. Great prices. Great selection of produce, seafood and meats, prepared foods, an incredible salad bar AND a wine store all in-house. Who needs Whole Foods when you have the Fruit Center? The Fruit Center offers a great selections of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, prepared foods and dry goods. The variety and the freshness of the produce is generally superior to the local chains and while some items are more expensive, it is usually only marginally and for a much better product. The prepared foods section here has come in handy for me numerous times on those nights when you just say to yourself "I can't possibly put forth the effort to make dinner" and you don't want to spend a fortune on greasy takeout. Grab anything from fresh pasta to mashed potatoes to mac and cheese and you have a quick, easy, affordable meal. The Fruit Center also offers a wide variety of local brands, giving you the option to conveniently support local vendors. All in one stop, you can pick up your Alfredo's Pasta from Quincy, homemade ice cream from Hingham and homemade pizza shells from Brockton. These are items not easily found in the local S&S! Staff is always friendly and helpful, even on busy days. All in all, a great place to shop when you need to break out of your mindless push the cart down the aisle routine! read more

Located just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my place of work, I am a frequent shopper at the Fruit Center. And by shopper, I mean soup bar addict. The Three Bean Vegetarian Chili is my personal fav - southwestern in feeling and perfectly spicy. (And I'm not even a vegetarian!) The salad bar is equally wonderful. Soooo many choices let you create the kind of salad you wish you could make at home, but discover you're missing 11 of the required ingredients.... Or is that just me?? Fruit Center salad bar is unsurpassed! When I worked in the area it was a weekly go to for me. To be quite honest salad isn't something I normally crave, I am more of a burger and fries girl myself but with the huge selection of all the different toppings it's hard not to find something you won't love. The soup here is also amazing! I'm pretty sure I had a printed copy of the soup schedule at my desk at some point- corn chowder is a personal fave here. Clearly I wasn't doing a whole lot of real grocery shopping here outside of the salad bar section but if you are looking for a quick and healthy meal to go Fruit Center is perfect. read more

Great service, unparalleled produce selection, great deli and specialty items. The fruits and veg are reasonably priced, the fishmonger and butcher are excellent, the groceries, a gourmet shop selection, and you're paying a premium. They have good stuff like jumbo cashews, a good selection of canned Mexican groceries (can you find tamales anywhere else?) exotic chocolates, amazing fresh local strawberries or corn or figs, and they keep an eye on it to make sure there's no duds. Drove over to chaotic stop & shop pre blizzard yesterday, there was a line to wait for a parking spot. My husband and I couldn't fathom the apocalyptic stress of the surrounding towns merging in one shopping area, so we drove over to the fruit center. I love this place!! I am originally a MIgnosa, but have zero ties to the centers specifically, as I am not close to my second cousins that operate the establishment. After yesterday I am proud to announce that I am related!! We pulled in to the tiny lot thinking there would be no spaces, but the employee directing traffic truely helped people find spots with ease. We were parked in about 4 minutes. (We were in stop and shop lot for 15 and nowhere close to the door) shopping was a breeze, the deli staff was extremely helpful and even though I could sense their level of stress they were composed and happy words the customers and fellow workers. (I actually left stop and shop last week from a rude deli attendant) I was waiting in line to pay whwn the clerk realized I had itwms in my cart from the corner meat shop. My husband and I absentmindedly forgot to pay at the particular department. The store was getting busier, and my two hung ry kids under age 8 were getting rowdy. The store clerk bagging my items offered to bring them back and purchase them while I was being checked out. . I handed her cash and she was back in under 5 minutes with my change and bagged items. What service!!! Not to mention the fruit and vegetables are some of the best quality I have gotten in winter seasons on the south shore. I am a regular shopper here, and know why. Worked here in HS and have to say there has never been another market that has come even close to compare in fruits, freshness and uniqeness. Love the salad bar, the deli, the fresh squeezed OJ (I used to go in at like, 5 am to squeeze, highschool hungover or not ;)...and the wine annex is also pretty great. Whenever I drive through HIngham, I usually stop at the Fruit Center just for the salad bar. They have an entire room dedicated to salad! Then, I usually end up needing a few more things, and next thing I know, I've spent $50. But, it's so worth it. I love the Fruit Center - the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the priciness. The salad bar is amazing - however, it is not hard to make a crazy expensive salad. You start at the lettuce and raw veggies, and you've made a healthy salad...when you get to all the GOOD stuff...and then you start piling up your salad with crazy salads of beans and barley and cheese and olives and breaded artichokes (which are awesome), and mini brussel sprouts (also awesome), and pickled everything, and tons of various forms of chicken, and mayo-packed salads...and you leave there with a $12 salad and no nutritional value left in your container...but it's still delish. The store itself has all sorts of interesting things, lots of funky jams and salad dressings and hot sauces. If you're looking to do regular grocery shopping, I'd venture elsewhere, but for unique cheeses and dips and all the things you can't find in other stores, and didn't know you were looking for, the Fruit Center's where it's at. read more

Love the Fruit Center! I don't agree with those who say it is pricey - some special items might be, but in general their prices are similar to supermarkets. Also, they always have better specials than the markets! The prices are very much more reasonable than Fresh Market! The produce is especially great - and they have better choices than other places. I love the people at fruit center! They're friendly and nice! It's always been such an amazing environment to be in. Even customers aren't too friendly to them. An example was like today I was standing in the line over ringing out my groceries when I overheard a woman making disrespectful comments about the new 5 cent bad price, which btw weren't going towards the store profits it was going to charity and to help people remember the reusable bags to produce less waste and the woman started getting hostile when the cashier and customer were staying facts to her about making people aware of how long they've been making people aware of the new store rules and where exactly their money was going. She stormed off in a rage saying she was never coming back here. I couldn't help but feel so sorry for clerks there for being generally nice and polite to everyone and telling people the truth of a new situation even if the customer was rude and disrespectful to people who have no control over the rules and regulations there. Which is why I made this post to show my sympathy for anyone who has to deal with hostile people in any situation on a daily basis. In my opinion the charge is a good way to make people to remember the bags and not to mention if I do forget I know it's going to a good cause. The owners the workers are always nice and professional. And I pray they don't have to deal with this anymore. read more

Someone at the Fruit Center must be paying attention. Each year it gets better. Things you can't find in other stores. This year I noticed that their produce, which has always been very good, was significantly cheaper than Shaws or Stop and Shop. Their salad bar, as many have mentioned, is extraordinary, not to be missed, and look at their fresh salads near the delicatessen -- not yellowed and browned out, but fresh and lively-looking. All in all, this is a wonderful food store, and I am grateful that it is here. read more

After you do a weekly or monthly shop at BJs or Stop & Shop for things like detergent, aluminum foil and breakfast cereal, the Fruit Center is the place to go for food. A variety of fresh produce, really good deli (try the Cooper Farms natural turkey), interesting condiments, Bell & Evans poultry, some great fish, wonderful ice cream selection.... all that. Prices on seafood are definitely high, but other food prices are in line with Stop & Shop - in fact, you'll find some prices are lower (see Cabot Farm cheese, dinner rolls). The service at the Fruit Center is unmatched - they'll always open another check out if there's a line. The size makes it great for a quick stop for dinner ingredients. But you might have trouble avoiding chatting with so many people you know. read more

Love the Fruit Center! Beautiful displays of delicious fruit and a wonderful selection of gourmet pastas, olive oils, cheeses, chocolates, and snack foods. It's a wonderful addition to the town and my mom always says that this is one of the places she would miss most if she were to move. It was like a Whole Foods oasis in a sea of Stop and Shop-type stores decades before Whole Foods was around (but better, in my opinion). We have been coming to the Fruit Center for years and continue to be wowed by their customer service, selections and overall shopping experience. Although their grocery items may be a bit more expensive than other stores in the area, their selections are top-notch. My only hope is that the Fruit Center moves to the Driftway in Scituate - we really need a great grocery store near us! read more

i truly could not live without the fruit center. it is the best thing about hingham. for over 35 years i can truly say i love the help i love the product and i love the variety...and to boot get a great fish and meat shop and unsurpassed deli. i have found many things ar lower priced that the stop and shop and the grade of fruit is wonderful....fish concession great too......many thanks for being able to go from a young woman to an old one with the fruit center as my best haunt! read more

The produce is very fresh and clean. The deli is second to none. They have all sorts of good meats and are very helpful at the counter. The Fruit center can get a little pricey but I think the quality of the products makes it worth it. If you are looking for great products this is the place you should go to read more
