Everything is always fresh and well-stocked, and they have a great selection of local and unique products you won't find at a typical grocery store. The store is a good size. It is a well maintained store and very clean. Their prepared foods section is excellent--perfect for grabbing a quick but delicious meal. This is the 5th time we've gotten spoiled shrimp or fish from either this location or Hingham. Either the people who order your seafood don't know how to tell the difference between fresh or spoiled seafood or your staff doesn't and no one complains. It's embarrassing to offer seafood in NEW ENGLAND that's spoiled. Allow me to illuminate this for you. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO SMELL LIKE AMMONIA ! Seafood is supposed to smell like the ocean, fresh ocean water. Not super fishy OR like ammonia! That is a sign of bacteria- it's spoiled! I'm beyond frustrated. Fruit Center Marketplace is a lovely, local grocery store! Everything is always fresh & staff is beyond friendly + helpful. Can be pricier than places like Stop&Shop + Star Market but they offer produce from local farms and businesses. I enjoy getting my fruits from here & go here whenever I need stuff to make asap since it's the closest market to me. I would definitely come here more often if they were open a little later; they close at 7pm daily. And yes, the parking lot can be a bit chaotic but just park towards the back, & back in so that there's no funny business when leaving ;) read more

I was reading the reviews before visiting, and read about the parking lot being chaos. I thought: "It's a parking lot! How bad can be it be?" Well, you know those maze puzzles we solved as kids? Yeah, it resembled that! Okay, great, but what does that have to do with the store more broadly? Well, the store layout is a similar maze-like pandemonium. Navigating this store has proven almost as challenging as navigating an IKEA when all I'm looking for is a new pan and maybe a can opener. As for the store's offerings, I am split down the middle. On the one hand, there is no denying that Fruit Center Marketplace is expensive. Where it comes to produce, I will be the first to admit that to me, a pepper is a pepper, and I can't tell on the surface if a more expensive one is better or not. For items that are more directly comparable, FCM does seem more expensive than competitors. Now, where FCM shines is in its offerings of smaller and more local products and brands. For instance, I found some caramels from Mrs. Mekler's Mercantile, which I didn't know existed outside the little sugar shack in Cohasset. This is just one example - chips, crackers, ice cream, honey, and many others are available from lesser known brands. Finally, where it comes to staff, while my interactions have been limited to buying cheese from the deli, finding honey, and checking out, I found the interactions pleasant. Thus, while I do not see Fruit Center Marketplace replacing my usual rotation of Trader Joe's, Aldi, and Market Basket, I can see myself visiting on occasion to treat myself to something that isn't owned by a massive, multinational conglomerate. read more

I have been here two or three times. I struggled with whether to give this place 4 stars or 5 as it's pretty great! They have lots of fresh produce which is why I wanted to come here initially. I infuse my own vodka with their pre-cut, cored pineapples for my homemade Stoli Doli. Delicious! I have also gotten berries, peppers, citrus fruits, etc. Everything is super fresh! The last time I stopped in, I wandered over to the prepared food section! They had lots of things from chicken parm and fresh soups to mac and cheese. I took my time deciding what I wanted to take home (I originally had zero plans to buy meals, but everything looked so good!). I ended up with buffalo chicken dip, chili and meat lasagna. I had the meat lasagna that night (well, half because it was huge!) and heated it up in the microwave. It. Was. Delicious! So meaty, tomatoey, great pasta... It was definitely restaurant quality and I had enough for lunch the next day. The buffalo chicken dip was just as good - cheesy with a good bite of spice and enough chicken to satisfy. Last (and least, unfortunately) was the chili. I was good and hearty, but didn't have enough flavor/spice for my taste. The second bowl I had (it was good for 2 solid servings), I added cayenne and red pepper flakes and that helped a lot. I would totally get the buffalo chicken dip and lasagna again. Not sure about the chili. So, why 4 stars instead of 5? See chili above - needs flavor. The prices are a bit steep and it's sad when they run out of things (no more jalapeños!? a million juices, but no mandarin juice?). BUT - the staff has been super friendly (a guy literally looked over the whole store to try to find me more jalapeños) and I'm dying to go back for more of the prepared food. Great place to shop. I can always find gifts for any occasion there. My favorite Items are the chocolates, wine, cookies and take out meals. Last minute dinner is solved with their quiche and prepared salads. I love the selection of rolls,garlic bread and Wednesday is homemade soup to go in a cup or a bowl. I never can resist the fresh fruit especially the strawberries and wild blueberries that I saw today. Everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful. WOW! I was searching for a Fish Market in the area and this came up so I thought I'd check it out. Talk about tasty! I bought some Nantucket bay scallops - man, it's out of this world! I'm always skeptical on how "fresh" seafood is from markets.. for first timer, this place rocks for scallops and shucked oysters. They also have live oysters too for $1.50 each. The seafood dept is actually run by Rock Neck Fish Co with it's own register. Since it was my first time in, I did take a stroll around the market. The produce looked incredibly fresh! Yes, I could not resist and bought a thing of skinny asparagus. Just typing this is making my mouth water for more asparagus!! To back up a little bit, when I fist entered the market, my eyes almost balled out! Holy Moly! Ginormous salad bar!!! Everything in there looked crisp and fresh. Supposively, over 100 items daily! On top of that, it's cheaper(~$1) than Roche Brothers. I'm already in love with it though I haven't tasted! I'm SOLD! Artisan breads(i.e. Iggy's) and loads of various hummus and spreads. I almost bought the store made almond butter. Saving that for my second visit. Instead, I bought the crabmeat cream cheese spread. It was perfect on top of Iggy's french baguette. It was here that I found my captain, Captain Parker! My Captain made me clam chowdah. By far the best chowdah I had in recent memory. Bold and not too buttery. He definitely deserves all the awards! Tastier than Roche's Bros store brand. Much better than Legal's I must add. Quart - $9.99 for Captain and $20.95 for Legal. Captain wins it for both the taste buds and the bank. I also peeked into the meat dept for future reference. This dept is run by Kinnealey with its own register. The dang beef steaks are so bloody red that I almost turned into a vampire! If you want butcher shop meat, this is the place! My curiosity took me to the lamb rack. I wanted to know the price - $35.99. I think I'll stick to fulfilling my lamb craving at Alba for a few bucks more and no work! read more

What a cute little grocery store! For years, my husband & I have been stopping by here to buy flowers (usually on the way to a performance one of his siblings is in). Today, we browsed the whole store and were really impressed. It's closest counterpart is probably the Trader Joe's chain, but the Fruit Center doesn't make it's employees dress in silly Hawaiian shirts. In the wine area, there was someone sampling a red & white wine, 4 different cheeses, olives, and prosciutto. The staffer was very helpful in describing his samples and not being a high pressure sales person. (We did buy a delicious $10 bottle of red wine that we sampled though.) They have a large section of baked goods, lots made locally at Ginger Betty's. They were even selling a cookie with a peace sign on it, that all proceeds from will be given to One Fund Boston (for the Boston Marathon bombing victims). There was another staffer sampling smoked salmon in the seafood section. It was delicious, and salmon is NOT something I expect to see on a sampling table. Don't come here hungry, or your cart will get filled with lots of goodies from their gourmet section. They also have lots of great gift items - wines wrapped in translucent plastic with a flower tied around the stem, tea cups filled with candy for mother's day, Philip's candy shop samplers, etc. I'll definitely be back soon to check out the "Mike's Fresh Sushi" and possibly the "Marketplace Cafe" restaurant on the 2nd floor. read more

Love this store. The products are high quality, the selection is excellent. Their catering is priced well and always gets compliments from our guests - last night one of them commented the roast beef was excellent and "like butter". But the biggest differentiator is the always excellent service - I have never once (over more than 20 years) been treated as less than a valued guest. read more

Love this place and glad I will be within walking distance to this market in the near future. It's the neighborhood equivalent of a Whole Foods Market but it's not a chain. Generally more expensive than your average supermarket but it's definitely for superior quality groceries. You know what they say - you get what you pay for and it essentially applies here. When I want to splurge I will shop their meat and seafood, they are a bit pricey but the quality is very good. You do have to purchase seafood and meats at separate areas, which is a little inconvenient, but not too much of a hassle. weekends are a little crazy crowded here, so I try to stay away then. I love this place, but why on earth would you get rid of the part of the deli where you can ask for a specific amount of sides/fixings or chicken cutlets etc? I understand it is easier for people to pick it up on their own in the fridge aisle, but just do both. Some people only want a quarter pound of corn salad or orzo salad or or only 1 chicken cordon blue to take home. This change offers much less flexibility for the customer. read more

Has been my weekly market for years and specialty foods supply too. The newer sushi and olive bars are great. Produce quality is the best. Organic selection big. Love to cook but, sometimes you just don't want to get the kitchen dirty after the house cleaner comes so, you get a ready meal. Just heat and serve. Everything is just the best- handmade dips, excellent quality meat meat and fish shops, and always lots of fresh produce. There is also a great wine selection in all price ranges and top notch craft beers. When I first moved to Milton, everyone recommend this place to me. Such a great store! The cheese! The specialty foods! Blah. I am not impressed. The store is super small and cramped. It is really hard to maneuver around even without a shopping cart. As another reviewer mentioned, many of your fellow customers will be aggressive and give you dirty/ judgmental looks. I don't dress up to go grocery shopping. I just want to get my food and leave. Also, the prices on most everything are pretty ridiculous. I'll drive the 20 minutes to Wegman's for a more relaxed shopping experience in a spacious store with fewer obnoxious people. Wegman's also has lower prices and coupons. read more

The best and biggest salad bar in the entire South Shore. You want to add chicken to your salad? OK, what kind, they have sliced deli chicken, sliced rotisserie chicken, sliced Caesar chicken, sliced BBQ chicken, and chicken salad. It's like that for everything, almost any item you could possibly want to add to your salad, they have it, and it's all top quality food. The seafood salad is probably the best I've ever tasted. If you love salads and live anywhere near the town of Milton it's worth the drive to the Fruit Center Market for your next salad. read more

I cannot believe that it has taken me this long to discover Fruit Center Marketplace. Why do I love it so much? 1. This place is darling. It has a welcoming feel - like you are going to a farmers market. The inside is very well organized flows from one section seamlessly into the next. 2 They have a great wine selection - a wide range of varieties as well as price ranges. I am impressed. 3. They have a great cheese selection as well as MANY specialty sauces, dips, condiments to choose from. 4. As a vegetarian, I can safely say that the Fruit Center has the most impressive salad bar I have ever seen. They selection and variety is unmatched. 5. Along the same lines, their produce department is fantastic. The staff hand pick the items that go out and I have watched them re-stock and they are very careful to scan for imperfections. I like this about Fruit Center - this saves me time and energy having to find an unblemished piece of fruit. The prices are comparable to other big name grocery stores as well. 6. The staff are friendly and know their stuff in their respective departments. The cashiers are also friendly. 7. They have many specialty items that I cannot find in the bigger grocery stores ( for example, spices, wood fired pizza crusts, homemade vegetarian baked beans, olive oils, produce). 8. They have an aisle that is clearly marked as gluten free. 9. Products from local restaurants and farms (both vegetable farms and dairy farms). 10. I am writing this review, namely because Yelp keeps "reminding" me to do so. I go here a lot. Jason L swears by the place (probably because he is more able to afford it). The Fruit Center has the best fish and meat in town. For fish- they buy directly from fishermen, for meat - they carry a wide range of Kinnealey meats, along with other highly regarded and local brands. Both the fish and meat are super fresh, and are not pumped with steroids, meaning not creepily large. The Fruit Center also has a very good selection of local beers- Maine Beer Company, Night Shift, Jack's Abby, and the other usual suspects. They also always have some Bantam and Downeast Cider to peruse. I know nothing about wine- but they stock a lot of it, at varying prices. Ditto cheese. The Fruit Center might not have a "bargain shopping" feel but their produce is often cheaper than Star Market, Hannafords and Stop n' Shop- and of far better quality. They offer a wide range of exotic and not so exotic fruits and veggies. I had no idea that plums came in at least four varieties- until I started shopping here. For those organic groupies- most produce comes in both "organic" (more expensive) and not organic varieties. My only real gripes about this place - are 1) the price of non-perishable groceries and 2) The often rude fellow customers. On point one, here is an example: Califia almond milk costs $6.99 a bottle at Fruit Center, whereas at Star Market it costs $3.99. Jason L and I have also found that hot sauce, spices, pasta, rice, and cleaning supplies also suffer from comparable price inflation. As to point 2: Fruit Center is always bumping - filled to the brim with seemingly angry house wives. I've lost count of the many times said customers have 1) hit me intentionally -passively aggressively in the shin with their shopping carts; 2) made judging eyes at my choice of Sunday lounge clothing or 3) Cut me in line, cleared their throats in anger at how long it was taking me to select avocados, or generally made me fly into a fit of anger. Random Notes: 1) On Saturdays and Sundays- the Fruit Centers pulls out all the stops when it comes in free samples. They employ a lovely cook - trained in France- who doles out delicious delicacies on these days. They also pass out free cheese, beer and wine in the afternoon. 2) Join their email list. Once a month you will get a coupon- usually for $10 off a $50 purchase. 3) They stopped selling FOMU- leaving the organic place in Quincy center as the last place to get it in these parts. read more

Who likes coffee here? Anyone? Anyone? The best part of this small grocery store is the fact that they sell many LOCAL products, such as cheese, dairy, meats, and produce. I'm not big on the organic thing (I think most of it is really a label and not much more than that, simply to be able to hike up prices) but this place with its local produce and items is a real gem. We discovered farm-fresh egg nog here, which is incredible. It led us to get home delivery from this small farm in Milton. I also found a locally roasted coffee that is amazing! Dunkin Donuts is simply bitter and bad, Starbucks is over-roasted. This stuff tastes like it's fresh off a mountainside, roasted with spring water by angels. Wonderful meat, baked goods, cheese, and wine sections. Fresh fruit & flowers, and we got a nice little pumpkin that was perfect for carving here. If you get meats from Kinneally, you have to pay separately. They also have a wall of Stonewall jams, relishes & body products. You can also get regular supermarket/ 'big brand' foods here if you need to. The people are always friendly, even the cashiers. My husband just had the worst experience here-we bought a $18 fruit bowl yesterday and when we went to eat this morning opened it to find it completely rotten. My husband went and returned it without a receipt and the cashier told him she did not think he bought it yesterday and Wld not return it. He went home, got the receipt and returned to speak to the manager. The manager was not apologetic that he was accused of lying and he accused my husband of yelling. He basically told my husband to not return to the store and followed him out. For all the $$&$& we have spent her over the years to be treated like this is absurd-take care of your customers and listen to what they are saying and if you are going to sell at high end prices do not have inferior produce!! read more

Milton Market place is great. They are very pricey but the fruit and veggies are extremely fresh. Their organic selection is starting to improve but for the most part there isn't too much to choose from. The thing that I enjoy most is the managers are so up to date on new products. There is always the newest and greatest product that is out there. It is great to see a product highlighted on the today show or the newspaper and Milton Market Place will already be carrying it. They sell wine, upscale baked products from all over, fantastic deli area, great prepared food section and a deelish salad bar. There is also a butcher and a seafood section that are rented out by different companies. I don't buy meat or fish there unless in a pinch because it is just too expensive (more expensive than Whole Foods) and it isn't even grass fed, all natural etc... Customer service for the most part is excellent. There is one older woman who works there who probably shouldn't. I have seen her be rude to customers and her staff, she mainly works the front. But hey every company has good and bad people. I highly recommend Milton Market Place, it is one of my favorite places to shop. read more

This is one of those places that is worth the hassle. I grew up around here and remember going to this market as a kid, but back then I was just tagging along with my mother probably causing a scene. It was probably 3 years ago that I was looking for a break from the hellish 93 traffic and decided to check it out again. Now, it's my go to grocery shopping when I'm traveling back from Boston. While the store is a little tight in places, once you get the hang of the layout you can find wonderful surprises. I love the packaged treats, the homemade snacks, and the extensive salad bar. They also have wine and beer, a rarity in the Massachusetts and a welcome addition. Living in Providence just down the street from Seven Stars Bakery, I was surprised and proud to see that they also carry their bread. The one part I'm not a huge fan of is the fact that you have to buy the meat separately. Since the meat section is at the front of the store, I have to decide early on which direction I'm going with my meals - not always an easy task. Other than that, I appreciate the Fruit Center's variety, commitment to local businesses, and homemade products. read more

The Fruitcenter is a great place but only for certain items. I have compared FC prices to Stop and Shop and the FC prices for fruit and veggies are in line with the large grocers. Even if you pay a little more you are getting high quality produce. It is like having a "whole foods" in milton. It is small and crowded at all times though. It has an ATM in the lobby, bonus for convenience. They have a huge salad bar as well as wonderful soups. They have decent flowers and Kinnealy's Meats inside (separate check though). They also used to have a java jo's coffee stand inside but not sure if they still do. However, they will grind your gourmet beans for you in their little window. Good fish and bagels too. read more
