I have used starry for at least a couple of years and they have the worst customer service. First they were charging me more than what they supposed to. And when you call them they were very rude. The internet doesn't work half the time. And when I cancel, they charged me $150 for their equipment that I have returned using their provided label and they keep saying that it was not received and the equipment was not returned. I called their customer service and again they can't do anything about it . It is not in my control if the equipment didn't get to them when I have told them multiple times that I dropped it off at UPS. DO NOT USE THIS INTERNET PROVIDER. THEY WILL SCAM YOU. Yes I was "caught off guard" by their lack of transparency and deviation from their former customer service. Original: I'm seeing that my most recent bill was $65 instead of $55. It had been $50 since they came to my city well before the pandemic. In the fall they announced a $5 increase from $50 to $55 in an email from the CEO explaining the need to increase prices. I started looking at my bills to see why it changed and I saw that the last bill had a footnote saying they would increase it by $10 dollars. This is bad business. They snuck in a $10 monthly increase without any email just a few months after the CEO announced a $5 increase. That's a 30% price increase!! They didn't give enough time to look at other services so now I've paid $65 dollars that I didn't agree to pay. The company was acquired or something a year ago (they announced an email) and it's pretty clear they don't have the same values as they used to after this act of deception. Starry is a scam. They operate under a "FCC Experimental Radio License" in many areas which strictly prohibits COMMERCIAL OPERATION since their operation is strictly experimental. You should ask for your money back! Los Angeles, Santa Monica are on the list of their experimental license. The service has actually gotten worse over the same time and is now much higher than competitors, including Verizon Fios. Service man was overly friendly, recommended an extender and never came back to install it or followup and I realized why when I discovered he stole a new Bose portable speaker from my home. I'm a very happy customer with Starry. I was fed up with Comcast's rude unhelpful customer service and frequent price increases so was looking for an alternative. Starry installation was super quick and easy, the technician texted me to pick a time and actually showed up on time, with the right equipment. In my building it comes through the phone jack and they give a cool looking wifi router called "launch" that has 3 ethernet ports and super powerful wifi. They're phasing out the triangle stations you might have seen on their advertising. I normally get around 240 mbps down and up on the 5ghz connection for devices close by like my smart tv, phone, laptop, etc. I still get around 25 mbps in other rooms on the 2.4 ghz connection that has longer range. It's super easy to set up my network name, password, and other settings on their iPhone app. It's great for cord cutters who prefer streaming services and they support net neutrality. Switched to Starry over a year ago. While the price and service technicians are great, the internet service itself is very spotty and unreliable. Whenever there is a storm the internet is unusable. If you're streaming TV it's a double whammy since that will also be gone. There seems to be other quirks where some laptops don't connect well and my Xbox live rarely works. It's an interesting option for $50 a month but if my building had fiber for Verizon FiOS I would go with that and never look back. Unreliable service with inept support. I cannot recommend this ISP. Outages are fairly frequent. Right now, I've been offline for over 12h and have spent four hours on hold today to no avail. The first ticket I filed was picked up by a support rep who was dismissive of my problem. I was able to file a ticket by calling in, and was promised a callback that never happened. Then I had to wait for an hour and 45 minutes on hold to file a third ticket. They did call back after that ticket, but there was no audio on the line and they didn't call back again. I waited for another half hour on hold before giving up at midnight. I'll be calling Verizon for FIOS service tomorrow and canceling Starry. read more

This is my first Yelp review, but the experience was so awful I wanted to warn other customers in the area. I had an 830-10 appointment window on Friday. The technician arrived on time and started the appointment. Around 1005 I started to wonder what the issue was because he said he couldn't get a connection. My building engineer came to assist and showed the technician where to put the modem. Yet, once my engineer left the Starry technician said he couldn't do it and his boss would come by in 45 mins. Nearly two hours later, no one was at my home and I hadn't received any notification from Starry. I called the technician who said he'd talk to his boss again. In the meantime, I called customer service and they said they'd talk to their dispatch unit and see if someone could come by. I waited another few hours and still no one came or called. I called customer service again and was told that there was a connection problem in my unit and they needed to see how to fix it before coming back. I was assured of a phone call within three hours, but I never received a call. After missing an entire day of work, I finally got a notice that my appointment had been rescheduled to Monday at 930a leaving me without service all weekend. Since I cannot miss another day of work for this, I'm going to with another provider. This was undoubtedly the worst service experience I've had for a relatively simple process of switching internet service. If you have literally any other option do not pick Starry. read more

We have been very happy with Starry since switching over from Comcast. We pay half the price for more than twice the speed we were getting (with Comcast we never got their advertised speeds, but Starry is actually faster than advertised). It has been perfectly reliable, which of course is very important for teleworking. My only complaint is that our setup tech was very late and didn't reach out to us to let us know what was going on, and the appointment itself takes a little while. Extremely slow customer service at all times. They have outages all the time for no apparent reason. All the phone lines they use in DC are underground, so weather isn't an issue. They either have technical inefficiencies or simply shut their internet down to save money. read more

I read the reviews, but decided to sign up anyway. Starry has placed equipment on my building's roof. Eight minutes before my appt, I get an email canceling. I call support and they want to schedule me in another two weeks which is not acceptable. I waited two weeks for my first appt and have scheduled my old service for cutoff. Don't believe the hype!! Starry is less expensive than other available ISP, but you get what you pay for. A representative introduced Starry to my condominium HOA board earlier this year. My HOA released emails and fliers to the community about Starry, knowing most unit owners were paying $75-$125 for internet service. A Rep from Starry was on the property a few times promoting the "fast and reliable service". I took the bait, never having connectivity issue with Comcast, as I work from home and need very fast internet connection. Since signing on with Starry, my connection is often interrupted with "OOPS something went wrong...We are working on fixing the problem" or the hour glass appears. To say the least, I regret switching from Comcast, thinking I will pay less but have the same internet connection quality. I was wrong!! I will switch back to comcast before the end of the summer since they are now offering a package that works for me without ever increasing the rate. Shame on Starry for the "Bait and Switch". They reel you in with very low rates. Shame on me for falling for it!! read more

While it looks sleek and efficient, this company turned out disappointing. Sure, their competitors are awful, but they could do better. So the installation was scheduled on the weekend, which is great for not missing work. It took nearly two hours, but then our building was newly added to their network. No issues at all until this morning when the WiFi wasn't working. I did all manner of troubleshooting and eventually called them and went through the same steps without success. Their conclusion is that they have to send someone out, and I'd have to be there. The next available date was literally 13 days from today. That's nearly half a month without internet and it seemed normal for them. It's a disgrace and since I'll have to take a day off work for the tech to do the same things over and then come to the conclusion that it's tech NOT in my unit after all. I honestly don't know how bad other ISPs are, but with horrifically bad service how can I not try someone else. read more
