After a few weeks, I called and they said my computer was now not turning on. I frequently had to call them to get updates on my laptop, and after months of no improvements, I asked for my laptop back to take it to another repair place. They returned it with no screen, the wrong screws in the base, and tried to hand me two different chargers before finding mine. My computer was unrepairable in that state, so I lost a $1,000+ computer from a cracked screen. I would have appreciated an honest approach by saying that they could not help fix it, but instead my computer was broken. I…read morecalled several computer fix-it places and decided on Landmark because the person who answered the phone (who turned out to be the owner, Bud Stolker) took the time to talk through what had happened in the computer's last moments, seemed like he knew what he was talking about, gave a reasonable-sounding price estimate, and said he would come to our house on a weekend to pick up the computer. I was incredibly happy with Landmark's service. It turned out our hard drive was failing. The backup system we thought we had set up was not working right, so we were looking at possibly losing all our photos, music, etc. But Bud was able to recover all except a few files. He then installed a new hard drive, brought the computer back to our house, re-set it up, installed a free program to automatically back up our files onto our external hard drive, and installed an updated virus protection system--all for I think $325 for the labor and hard drive plus $40 for delivering the computer. I was reminded to write this review because just now, almost a year later, our computer was running slowly, and I wrote to Landmark again. Bud had us do something where we logged on to his website and downloaded something so he could look at our computer from afar as though he were here. (As you can see I am not super computer literate.) He confirmed that we had a reasonable amount of free disk space and did not have any viruses, then deleted something unnecessary that had been running automatically when the computer started up. Now the computer is running much faster. This took him about 20 minutes and didn't charge us anything--he said he would only charge us if he had to do something more time-consuming. All this is to say, I heartily recommend Landmark Computer!

I forgot to give him the power cord. It turns out that he did not have one in the shop because the machine is a late-model Lenovo with a new much-smaller fitting. He went to his supplier and got one there. No extra charge. All in all, friendly service that goes the extra mile.

I dropped off the hard drive and was told that I would get a call in a few days with a diagnosis. There are signs everywhere that there is a diagnostic fee of $59. If you get the work done, the diagnostic fee is applied to the price of the work. After a week of waiting I called to get a status. I called on a Saturday and was told to call Monday to speak to the tech. I called backkn Monday and was told the drive was too damaged for any data to be extracted. I paid the $59 fee. See snapshot from my bank statement. I threw away the receipt. I then continued looking and found a place to ship it to, free of charge. They received it and immediately contacted me back that they are able to recover data, maybe not all but guaranteed recovery. That is in the works as I write this review. This is why I didn't write the review sooner because now I know for a fact that they gave me wrong information. I would be totally fine and cool with paying a disgnostic fee to get a diagnosis. This place didn't give me that. For all I know they may not have done anything. They said the drive qould not work with any of their software. I qould be totally okay with them being honest and telling me this is what is wrong, you need these parts and it will cost this much and we do not do it. It is obvious they do not have the expertise or equiment to do data recovery unless it is simple but if that was the case I could have done it. In any event, I do not feel that this business is ethical when they charge you to tell you something can't be salvaged when I now know it can be. I am upset and sharing this so it doesn't happen to you.

Manager on duty was very kind and helpful, and they had a small supply of in stock available equipment ready for purchase for business users. They do carry a number of niche business computer pieces, as well as some gaming hardware pieces - such as nvidia series GT1070 card. I've always been a PC user and recently decided to join this century and purchased a MacBook Air (which I LOOOOOVE, incidentally). I had it just about three weeks before it had a major accident...a rendered unusable sort of accident that I can hardly speak of without getting mad all over again. I thought it was not salvageable. I ran to the Apple Store in tears asking for guidance, and oh how they steered me wrong. They recommended a place called Kroll Ontrak way down I66. I drove out there with my machine and left it with them for three days to "analyze it," for which they charged me $65. They called me back once it had been brought back from "the clean room," whatever that is, and told me that they had taken the liberty of beginning the downloading process. I thought that was all really considerate until they gave me the quote for this service. And I choked on it. It wasn't much really; they only wanted my mercedes and my first born child. And there was no room for negotiation. None. So I took back my computer, paid them for their so called analysis, and was on my merry way. I turned to Yelp and found MACS in Alexandria---what a stroke of luck that turned out to be! I called and spoke to Will (the owner). I told him about the fate that had befallen my beloved MacBook Air and his response was, "no problem, bring it in." He was able to salvage everything: years and years worth of files, some new software I had purchased and coincidentally lost the disks for, all my emails, bookmarks and photos! On top of all that, he was able to then file it all away properly on my new MacBook Air. There were no "clean rooms" and there weren't any sort of mysterious processes like Kroll Ontrak had described to me. The best part was that he didn't want my car or my kid, just $125. SO, so reasonable. Later that day I had logged in to my new computer and remembered a question I had meant to ask him about something else unrelated. I called and he offered to fix it for me by logging into my computer remotely using TeamViewer (my old company used to use that software so I was comfortable with this--I know how it works). Talk about customer service! It wasn't even related to the original problem, it was just a question about a functionality on my computer. He just whizzed right around on it and fixed it with no effort. He also pointed out a great mac tutorial site to me so I could learn how to use my computer more effectively. SO NICE! I will not hesitate to use Mid Atlantic Computer Solutions again in the future. They are GREAT!!!
